April 2022 edit

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your edits to Tom Brady, please use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history, as well as helping prevent edit conflicts. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show you what the article will look like without actually saving it.

The Show preview button is right next to the Publish changes button and below the edit summary field.

It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. If you have any questions, contact the help desk for assistance. Thank you. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:28, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Also, please take a look at Help:Infobox picture and see how to correctly format images for infoboxes. If that's tl;dr for you, quick tip: don't use the File: prefix or the "thumb" parameter in the infobox. Infobox images are automatically formatted.
See how your edit looks with the broken caption text and the extraneous frame around the image, vs how it's supposed to look. You can see how the code is entered:
{{Infobox NFL biography
| image = Tom Brady WFT-Buccaneers NOV2021 (cropped).jpg
| alt = Brady with the Buccaneers in 2021
| caption = Brady with the [[Tampa Bay Buccaneers]] in 2021

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Trevor Lawrence with the Jaguars in 2021.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Trevor Lawrence with the Jaguars in 2021.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. —C.Fred (talk) 21:48, 10 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:Trevor Lawrence with the Jaguars in 2021.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Trevor Lawrence with the Jaguars in 2021.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. —C.Fred (talk) 21:49, 10 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Non-free images of living people edit

As a general rule, we can't use non-free images of living people in their articles, and particularly not in infoboxes. I have just reverted your edits to Zach Wilson. You added a non-free image that you claim was the subject of significant commentary, but I see no discussion of that picture in the article. Please make sure that any use of non-free images complies with WP:NFCC. —C.Fred (talk) 21:56, 10 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello, thank you for letting me know about this. I am trying to get up-to-date pictures of football players without trying to get copyrighted, is there anyway I can get some help form you? Owenrose1021 (talk) 22:04, 10 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Every picture you have uploaded today is copyrighted and under a non-free license. —C.Fred (talk) 22:04, 10 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
How do I know they are copyrighted? Owenrose1021 (talk) 22:08, 10 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Well, you acknowledged they were all non-free when you uploaded them. Quite simply, if you take it from somebody else's website, and there's nothing that clearly states it's free to use, then it's copyrighted and under an all-rights-reserved license. That definitely includes Sports Illustrated and similar websites, as well as team websites and nfl.com. —C.Fred (talk) 22:09, 10 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for letting me know. Are Flickr and Getty Images free images? Owenrose1021 (talk) 22:22, 10 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Getty Images are not. Flickr, it depends: you can usually find the license information along with the page. If you find one, ping me and put the link here, and I'll check the license for you. —C.Fred (talk) 22:29, 10 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use File:Fields with the Bears.webp edit

Thanks for uploading File:Fields with the Bears.webp. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 01:46, 11 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Peyton Manning in the Colts in 2011.jpg edit

A tag has been placed on File:Peyton Manning in the Colts in 2011.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file from a commercial source (e.g. Associated Press, Getty Images), where the file itself is not the subject of sourced commentary. If you can explain why the file can be used under the non-free content guidelines, please add the appropriate non-free use tag and rationale.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Request reason:

I understand my block on violating copyright policy with images. I will never do it again, I understand you blocking me, and I plan on moving forward in my journey of editing Wikipedia. At the time, I did not understand the image copyright policies, and I should have taken a look at that. Owenrose1021 (talk) 22:28, 15 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

As copyright violations potentially put Wikipedia in legal jeopardy, we must be convinced that you understand what copyight is, how Wikipedia is licensed, and when and how you can use copyrighted content on Wikipedia- it's not enough to just tell us that you understand. As this request does not do these things, I am declining it. 331dot (talk) 08:09, 16 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
