Rebecca Guay

Hi. Regarding your edit on Rebecca Guay, in which you changed the Infobox portrait, stating in your edit summary, "Guay authorized the current pic specifically for use on this page. Please respect that.", the subjects of biographical articles on Wikipedia do not own their articles (nor does any one person), and have zero authority to dictate to the editing community here what goes in them. Content on Wikipedia is determined by editors according to what makes the best article, and not the whims of the article subject. If Ms. Guay does not like the current Infobox portrait, then she can work with the editing community by providing other photographic choices of equal or superior quality. The other photo was a blurry/out-of-focus shot of her looking off to the side, which is not the best choice for the Infobox portrait. Whether it is more recent is irrelevant to this, and moreover, it and the other photo that was further down in the article have been deleted from the Commons, due to copyright issues. If Ms. Guay or some other party would like to upload more photos whose copyright they own, I would be more than happy to initiate a consensus discussion with other editors here, as I have many times in the past, so that the community can decide which photo is best.

Also, new messages go at the bottom of a talk page, not the top.

Thank you. Nightscream (talk) 13:30, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

It is not difficult to simply scroll to the bottom of a page, nor is it "bad practice" for members of a community to conform to common standards. New messages do not go at the top of pages, they go at the bottom, and it is arrogant for you to join a community and tell them that you're jolly well going to do things however you feel like, regardless of how disruptive it is. You would never do this in the brick-and-mortar world when walking onto someone's property, but somehow, you feel no reluctance to act like this on the Net, which is rather obnoxious. It is generally understood as both an ethical and legal principle that when you go onto someone else's property, you adhere to their rules, or you leave. Just so you know, editors who continually disrupt Wikipedia can be blocked from editing. I'd suggest that you respect Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, or go elsewhere. Nightscream (talk) 17:03, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
Hey bro. Thank you for wielding the threat of the banhammer over this and letting me know that my good-faith contributions to Wikipedia which take a significant amount of time investment (where I always cite all my sources - not easy work to have to weed through hundreds of articles or archives to dead & expired links to find those obscure nuggets of information that the average netizen might now know), and a certain level of emotional toll and exhaustion, are not welcome. I implore you to visit the following link and read this (relatively recent) article, and really, just give it a really good long read. Please scroll down and read all the comments and take a good, long, hard look at what you are doing here:

This is not just a simple suggestion, it's a "must-read" for all Wikipedia editor/volunteers, especially for those who have long-time experience, have been around for years, and have contributed a lot (like you). It may behoove you for me to ask you to read it (it's really more of a plea), but please, you really do need to. (the conversations in its comments section are relatively civil and it's a good discussion that every Wikipedian will find valuable) It's crisis that needs to be addressed because the environment for people who genuinely want to contribute and have the capability and subject-matter expertise to contribute can become really, really toxic and it's something that needs to be fixed. It would be great if you could leave an e-mail address or some place where we can chat in private because there's stuff that's not for public consumption (like in a Wiki talk page) that I'd like to discuss. I'm not quite sure how this works: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Emailing_users but it would be great if you could help me out with it. Thanks. -Object404 (talk) 23:46, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
You were not told that your good-faith contributions were not welcome.
You were told that your stated intention to not follow the community's practices, even after they were pointed out to you, were unwelcome, and indicative of a poor attitude.
If you're going to have a dialogue with someone, respond to the statements they actually make, and not the straw men into which you distort them.
Thank you for agreeing to comply with talk page etiquette. It is much appreciated. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 23:57, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but it's really frustrating as all the proper channels were followed in uploading those images to WMC, and the copyright holder even e-mailed the proper e-mail address that needed to be e-mailed as per info-box warning message on the WM upload entry pages, and yet they were all still deleted. ALL the proper channels and processes were followed as stated in all the instructions. Why do you people do these things? It's so disheartening and frustrating and people like me only want to help. -Object404 (talk) 00:11, 26 January 2015 (UTC)

Categories

Please pay a bit of attention to the categories - Arnis doesn't exist and therefore should not be included, Martial arts is a supercategory which means that an appropriate sub-category should be found (no other martial arts are there and that has been the case for a long time). This is the same for Swords by country - it should have no pages (although I see that it did have some and I fixed that) and in fact is about swords not the martial art. You shouldn't put articles in every possible category and generally if a sub-cat exists it should be put there and not in the parent. Might help to take a look at Wikipedia:Categorization - and ask me if you have any questions.Peter Rehse (talk) 07:56, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

It is very easy to rename the Eskrima category to Arnis. I will do it if you wish but I prefer you to do it since the push for naming change is coming from you. Go to the Eskrima category and at the top there is the More tab. Click on that and you will have the option to Move. Please give a good reason in the box provided. I hope this helps.Peter Rehse (talk) 10:16, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Mole crickets

I'm not really convinced that the local name of the dish is specially relevant but it can stay; however the blogs/personal websites are not generally considered reliable sources and cannot be used to demonstrate notability, so I've removed them. Chiswick Chap (talk) 15:52, 11 October 2015 (UTC)

Mole Cricket -> Camaro, food > Philippines

It may not be notable where you live, but in a country with a population of 100 million strong, it's a famous dish, similar to Balut (food) and Sisig. It's actually worthy of its own article, being a tourist curiousity which evokes horror and delight, like Haggis and Black pudding as European analogues, but I just mentioned it on the Mole Cricket page. I don't mean to sound disparaging, but please expand your world view beyond the Western world. No offense meant, but deletionism tends to be an overwhelming behavior on Wikipedia that I feel must be tempered and that is driving away Wikipedians in droves.

I've added more news citations, as well as an entry itself from the Philippine Department of Tourism, so that should withstand the test of WP:notability. Hope you come visit sometime and try out the dish! It's really interesting :) Cheers -Object404 (talk) 19:32, 11 October 2015 (UTC)

Do give this article a read - it frequently makes the list of Top 10 strange Philippine dishes and will give you an idea why it is culturally notable - http://www.topten.ph/2015/09/04/weirdest-food-pinoys-eat/ -Object404 (talk) 19:39, 11 October 2015 (UTC)

Er, thanks; I've already agreed the claim can stay, so this posting is already on the undue side. I am absolutely not a "deletionist". Even on my rare visits to AfD, where admittedly the overwhelming majority of articles are pure dross, I seek out good and worthwhile articles and have rescued dozens of them. Do not confuse your stated dislike of deletionism (as on your user page) with editing which filters uncited claims, followed in this case by several unreliable citations. And yes, you did sound disparaging, as you were sensitive enough to realize as you wrote it. I've moved this discussion here to keep it in one place; this discussion has already strayed very close to the border of civility, so please leave my talk page alone now. Chiswick Chap (talk) 01:59, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
Sorry, it's a kneejerk reaction from encountering too many deletionists while trying to contribute to Wikipedia, and it's an emotionally draining experience. Hope you understand. -Object404 (talk) 04:39, 12 October 2015 (UTC)

JSTOR cleanup drive

Hello TWL users! We hope JSTOR has been a useful resource for your work. We're organizing a cleanup drive to correct dead links to JSTOR articles – these require JSTOR access and cannot easily be corrected by bot. We'd love for you to jump in and help out!

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 11:27, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

ANI report about User:Thetruth16

Hi. Would need your input about this user's editing behavior. I have created a new ANI report about him since he is reverting back his version of "pro-Marcos" edits to several Marcos related articles. Here is the discussion thread: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Incidents#Disruptive_editing_of_User:Thetruth16. Thank you. -WayKurat (talk) 14:41, 4 September 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up. Will comment. -Object404 (talk) 10:46, 5 September 2017 (UTC)

Mocha Uson

Do you suppose we change the infobox into something closely related to Uson's political activities? I mean, she's becoming increasingly a political figure than a dancer right now. SLIGHTLYmad 11:55, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

Makes sense. Add maybe instead of remove? She still does sing/dance and performed recently in a Casino -Object404 (talk) 14:08, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
Well I would transfer the current box in the Career section and then add a new one that chronicles her basic info as well as political activities. SLIGHTLYmad 14:14, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

Blade Runner template

I chose to remove the film Soldier that you added. The fact that a writer decided in his own mind that two films were in his own made up cinematic universe that does not mean that that film is actually a part of a film series for real from a product perspective. If the writer of one of the Lord of The Rings films decided that some other fantasy film he wrote took place in the same world I don't think that would be enough to include it in the that navbox either. This has been dicussed many times and you can bring it up on the talkpage if you feel like.★Trekker (talk) 17:35, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

Request reason:

Hi. I have acted fully in good faith and full disclosure. I am most definitely not JMR raggster nor is he my meat puppet. Kindly read my message plus the attached article Jerome Charles Potts's talk page for the situationer. Though probably done in good faith, what Jerome Charles Potts activity was tantamount to historical whitewashing and is exactly what The Guardian article described. Decline reason:

As this is a CheckUser block, administrators are unable to lift it without consulting with CheckUsers. As Bbb23 does not seem intent on lifting the block, your best option at point would to email ArbCom at arbcom-l@lists.wikimedia.org and ask for a review from them.
