 Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Happy editing! Cheers, Cheers, atque supra! Fakescientist8000 20:53, 8 June 2023 (UTC)

Answering edit requests

Remember to change the parameter ans=no to ans=yes after answering edit requests. You could use scripts like User:Jackmcbarn/editProtectedHelper, User:Terasail/Edit Request Tool to help you do so automatically. Thanks. Lightoil (talk) 12:37, 25 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi, thank you for the reminder, I'll make sure to change the parameter from now on. NotAGenious (talk) 10:28, 26 June 2023 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for August 1

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited George Bassett Clark, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Lowell. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:09, 1 August 2023 (UTC)

Your request for permissions

Hi NotAGenious. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

  • Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle. It just adds a [Rollback] button next to a page's latest live rebision - that's all. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear and unambiguous cases of vandalism only. Never use rollback to revert good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose or other inappropriate purpose, the rights will be revoked.
  • Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask!

When your rollback permissions expire, reach out to me. I'll check out your edits and make sure that you've used rollback only for appropriate purposes. Assuming no issues are found, I'll grant you the rollback permissions permanently. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:39, 3 August 2023 (UTC)

Sounds good, thanks! NotAGenious (talk) 06:07, 4 August 2023 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia!

 Welcome NotAGenious!
Hello NotAGenious. Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions!

I'm Sm8900, one of the other editors here, and I hope you decide to stay and help contribute to this amazing repository of knowledge.

Some pages of helpful information to get you started:
    Introduction to Wikipedia
    The five pillars of Wikipedia
    Editing tutorial
    How to edit a page
    Simplified Manual of Style
    The basics of Wikicode
    How to develop an article
    How to create an article
    Help pages
    What Wikipedia is not
Some common sense Dos and Don'ts:
    Do be bold
    Do assume good faith
    Do be civil
    Do keep cool!
Do maintain a neutral point of view
    Don't spam
    Don't infringe copyright
Don't edit where you have a conflict of interest
    Don't commit vandalism
    Don't get blocked
If you need further help, you can:
    Ask a question
or you can:
    Get help at the Teahouse
or even:
Ask an experienced editor to "adopt" you

Alternatively, leave me a message at my talk page or type {{Help me}} here on your talk page and someone will try to help.

There are many ways you can contribute to Wikipedia. Here are a few ideas:
    Fight vandalism
Be a WikiFairy or a WikiGnome
    Help contribute to articles
    Perform maintenance tasks

Become a member of a project that interests you
    Help design new templates
Subscribe and contribute to The Signpost
Translate articles from Wikipedias in other languages

To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. You can create your own personal sandbox for use any time. It's perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you can put {{My sandbox}} on your user page. By the way, seeing as you haven't created a user page yet, simply click here to start it.

Please remember to:

  • Always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the   button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes ~~~~ at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your signature, a link to your talk page, and a timestamp.
  • Leave descriptive edit summaries for your edits. Doing so helps other editors understand what changes you have made and why you made them.
The best way to learn about something is to experience it. Explore, learn, contribute, and don't forget to have some fun!

Hi there, thanks for coming to say hi! I'll probably create the user page once that feels more relevant and I have a bit more time. NotAGenious (talk) 15:13, 31 August 2023 (UTC)

Just a message from a bystander that you may wish to consider reversing this closure, as a discussion seems to be continuing below it. All the best, A smart kitten (talk) 16:38, 4 September 2023 (UTC)

Thanks, just saw that. NotAGenious (talk) 16:47, 4 September 2023 (UTC)

HOOAH!

Hi NotAGenious! I've accepted your request and have granted you permanent access to the rollback user rights. As you know, it allows you to quickly revert the edits of other users in cases of blatant vandalism.

Please keep these things in mind at all times when using rollback to revert edits:

  • Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle. It just adds a "[Rollback]" button next to a page's latest edits - that's all. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you (obviously).
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear and unambiguous cases of vandalism only, and never used to revert good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose, the rights will be revoked.
  • Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask.

For more information on the user rights and how to use rollback, see this tutorial page.

I'm sure you'll do fine with rollback - it's a pretty straight-forward user right and it doesn't drastically change the interface you're used to already. Nonetheless, please don't hesitate to leave me a message on my user talk page if you run into any questions, have any issues or troubles, or if you run into a revision or situation where you're not sure if using rollback is appropriate or not and need my input or advice - I'll be more than happy to help you any time you need it. If you no longer want the rollback user rights, let me know and I'll be happy to remove it for you. Thank you for helping to locate, revert, and remove vandalism from Wikipedia - it's a very thankless job to perform and I want you to know that it doesn't go unnoticed and that I appreciate it very much. Happy editing! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:46, 8 September 2023 (UTC)

Please see my statement at DRN. Thank you for asking my advice. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:22, 27 September 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for offering a second opinion. NotAGenious (talk) 14:00, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
After I read the dispute in detail, it became clear that this was a dispute about a BLP by its subject, and should go to BLPN. (When there are disputes with the subjects of BLPs, they are usually professors.) Thank you for closing the DRN. It is now pending at both BLPN and WP:ANI. I advised one person to go to BLPN, and one person to wait before going to WP:ANI. Some people heed my advice, and some don't. Robert McClenon (talk) 20:27, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Self made theory and welcome to Wikipedia! The page is going to get deleted, because you blanked it, which made me assume you aren't working on it anymore. Also, the page was created in the 'talk' -namespace, while new articles from new editors should be created as drafts. Please see WP:YFA for guidance on how to get started on your draft. Good luck! copyright on the Tipp City, Ohio article

hi, i was wondering, was the copyright issue on Tipp City, Ohio ever fixed? the edit right after yours - https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tipp%20City,%20Ohio&diff=1166717876&oldid=1165474323 removed the message about potential copyright, but the copy and pasted sections still remains.

thanks, JustSomeGuy4361 (talk) 01:20, 5 October 2023 (UTC) JustSomeGuy4361 (talk) 01:20, 5 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi and welcome! The admin who handled the copyright problem readded the text and closed the issue, stating it was an obvious backwards copy, meaning that the website copied the text from us rather than other way around. I'm not sure what policy says on what's enough to mark it as a backwards copy, so I'll invite MER-C to join the discussion. NotAGenious (talk) 13:51, 5 October 2023 (UTC)
alright, thanks.
~~ JustSomeGuy4361 (talk) 15:08, 5 October 2023 (UTC)
The website acknowledges the text was sourced from Wikipedia. That's as obvious and clear-cut as it gets. MER-C 16:56, 5 October 2023 (UTC)
Oh, I missed that. Thanks NotAGenious (talk) 16:57, 5 October 2023 (UTC)

Question from Silvanbawa on Emma Myers (06:52, 14 October 2023)

How to give someon a image in wikipedia --Silvanbawa (talk) 06:52, 14 October 2023 (UTC)

Hello @Silvanbawa. WP:IUPC explains the copyright requirements that are required for an image to be uploaded. The image you tried to link doesn't indicate a license, so it would be preferred if you'd try finding another image that Wikipedia can accept. You can try clicking the following links for the Free Image Search Tool to find suitable images. Let me know if you need any help!

@Hussein78868 Please read the messages JBW and I sent to your user talk page.
You're free to edit the draftspace version of your article at Draft:Hussein Saleh. Provide sufficient sources that establish notability. For example, IMDb isn't a reliable source.
Please be warned, if you're unable to cooperate with us and follow our policies, you can be blocked from editing. NotAGenious (talk) 08:51, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) @Hussein78868, the page has been deleted because the subject isn't notable enough for a separate article. The article will also not exist because there are no reliable sources, that is, sources that are self published like IMDb and you website. I suggest you read WP:N. Question from Bulklana (17:48, 24 October 2023)

Hello! Are you my Mentor? I joined Wikipedia because I want to contribute. I'm a little familiar with programming and the wiki isn't very complicated for me, but I still need some general help. I would like to write articles. I like the idea of writing about people (doesnt matter living or dead). Could you give me a few ideas about who to write an article about, how best to do it, what criteria to meet, what plan to follow, how best to do it? A few tips to get started. Thank you! --Bulklana (talk) 17:48, 24 October 2023 (UTC)

@Bulklana : welcome! I'm glad you're interested on writing. Creating an article can be a difficult task, but once you're familiar with Wikipedia's core content policies, you should be fine.
Articles are only written on notable subjects, meaning that they're covered by multiple independent, reliable sources that discuss the subject in significant detail.
All information in an article must be verifiable through citations to those sources. It should be mentioned, that if writing about living (or recently deceased) individuals, this policy is even stricter which is explained at WP:BLP. Contentious material [...] that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—must be removed immediately....
For choosing subjects to write. there's a requested articles-system that allows people to suggest articles to be created. You might be interested on requested biographies by profession or those by nationality.
That's the basics. Before getting started, I'd also read WP:YFA, which explains steps in further detail, and how to get the page published. Let me know if you need any help! :) NotAGenious (talk) 12:50, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
Thank you very much. If any difficulties arise, I will contact you for advice Bulklana (talk) 16:34, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
Good afternoon. Please take a look if you have time. What mistakes did I make, what should I add, what should I remove? I know about the categories, but they should probably be added after the article will be published, right?
Also, please advise me about images uploaded by me. Is everything right with rights.
What else should I pay attention to?
Thanks a lot and have a nice day. Bulklana (talk) 17:53, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
I edited and updated the article with information after the draft was rejected, so please ignore that notification Bulklana (talk) 17:54, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
Also please tell me about this notification in the bottom of the article. Can I delete it myselfe after fixing problems? Bulklana (talk) 17:43, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
I don't think there are any specific rationale for enough categories in an article, but yours look good enough to me. If you want to add more, look at closely related articles for ideas. Otherwise, you may remove the tag. NotAGenious (talk) 07:10, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
Thanks a lot Bulklana (talk) 14:34, 30 October 2023 (UTC)

Looking at the author's editing history, there is reason to think that the author is related to the subject of the article. I think it is a good idea to include this information to reduce COI. Bulklana (talk) 21:07, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

New page reviewer granted

Hi NotAGenious. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at the permissions page in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page or ask via the NPP Discord. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page, including checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, checking for duplicate articles, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a Google search) for compliance with the general notability guideline.
  • Please review some of our flowcharts (1, 2) to help ensure you don't forget any steps.
  • Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:14, 27 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Salenelle (19:31, 8 December 2023)

Ugh... So, the page I'm trying to write for an independent documentary titled "MILWAUKEE 53206" has been rejected. Even with all the source material, I do not think I can move forward with it since I have no idea what more - or else - I can add to legitimize the sources. Any suggestions? --Salenelle (talk) 19:31, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

Hello my question is that how can I make my own Wikipedia article just like other articles on Wikipedia --Siddharth Kumar Singh garg (talk) 15:42, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

@Siddharth Kumar Singh garg : welcome. Having an article about yourself on Wikipedia requires you to meet our strict notability criteria. Also, it should be worth noting that an article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing - we aren't a blog host or an advertising website; you don't own your own article. Question on adding and connect links along with colour text and stuff like that

Hello, sorry for bothering, but it seems like you are my assigned editing “mentor”. I’d like to know how to connect links to specific words and stuff like that and scaling text and stuff. Thanks! DeliciousCaik (talk) 04:34, 26 December 2023 (UTC)

@DeliciousCaik : welcome! Information about links can be found at Help:Link. Question from WSimmons7718 (19:14, 27 December 2023)

Hello I created an article and it was marked for speedy deletion and deleted before I could even contest. The reason they gave was copyright infringement because they found the same words on another website. My stance is that I wrote the words on the other website as well. Lapland Chamber Orchestra moved to draftspace

Thanks for your contributions to Lapland Chamber Orchestra. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. DoubleGrazing (talk) 15:46, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi, sorry to do this to a fellow new page reviewer (!), but I came across this article during this month's backlog drive, and didn't think it would have been right to accept it as the sources simply aren't there. First I thought no problem, I'll just find more and better sources and add them myself – should be easy enough, for a 50-year-old orchestra, right? Wrong; couldn't find anything. So I moved this to drafts, hoping that you will be able to find the missing sources, or otherwise prove this is notable. Cheers, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 15:52, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
@DoubleGrazing : I purposefully didn't include every source as these can be very easily found with a simple BEFORE. More YLE including a credible claim of significance for being nominated for Gramophone Classical Music Awards (satisfies WP:BAND #8 alone though not specifically mentioned there (also John Storgårds for #6 as Outi Tarkiainen has been heavily involved with her concerto Polar Pearls, not sure though as she isn't an official member)), Hesari review, Hesari news, more Hesari, never heard of Kuukkeli before and unsure about reliability but seems significant local coverage, two pages here that aren't digitalized though. I've moved the page back. If you disagree, take to AfD. Hyvää uuttavuotta, NotAGenious (talk) 18:11, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
@NotAGenious: okay, so I guess it's fair to assume you weren't too pleased with that. ;)
I wasn't saying you should include every source, but is it unreasonable to expect that you would at least include enough sources to clearly establish notability, without the reviewer/reader having to go hunting for them? As a fellow NPR/AfC reviewer, I would have thought you, if anyone, would appreciate that's a fairly basic premise of article creation.
But whatevs, this isn't a hill I'm intending to die on tonight, so I'll drop the stick. Don't be too surprised, though, if another reviewer raises the same concern.
Hyvää uutta vuotta myös itsellesi! -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 18:55, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
Not unreasonable at all; I think I was rather confused on how this coverage didn't pop up on your search results. This was also my first article from a while go that I forgot about - I've surely grown to appreciate present GNG-establishing sources present in the article. I appreciate the message you sent though. Either way, do you think the sources above are good enough for inclusion? I'm prepping an edit to add them and expand a bit too. NotAGenious (talk) 19:03, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
@DoubleGrazing : sorry for my impolite response to your original post. Also, the refs are now there if you still want the review. NotAGenious (talk) 09:59, 2 January 2024 (UTC)

India–Montenegro relations

FYI, you placed a speedy deletion tag on India–Montenegro relations as it was just a link to an external mirror of Wikipedia, hosting a copy of a subsequently-deleted Wikipedia article. The article had been previously deleted pursuant to a proposed deletion. I have interpreted the act of linking to an off-wiki copy of the article as an attempt to contest the proposed deletion and so I have restored the original article. If you would like to nominate the article for deletion, please feel free to do so at WP:AFD. --B (talk) 18:54, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Public domain characters

A tag has been placed on Category:Public domain characters indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 19:24, 13 January 2024 (UTC)

You can also remove the {{unreferenced|date=October 2010}} from the article when publishing the edit. Perhaps you could also add links to Casa Editrice Leo S. Hello How can I include my biography and photo in Wiki? --Aramsadeghy (talk) 11:37, 12 February 2024 (UTC)

@Aramsadeghy : Hi; That's probably not possible per WP:NOTFB. Only articles on notable (having significant coverage from reliable sources that are independent of you) individuals can be created. You may, however, have a small description and an image of yourself on your user page if you choose to become a constructive editor. But these won't be indexed by search engines (meaning that your page won't show up on Google). Consider Wikipedia:Alternative outlets instead. FemtoLab

Dear NotAGenious,

I request your advice for an issue, I don't know what to do with. I am currently editing the page of FemtoLab but when looking for sources, I can verify that this laboratory exists and that the university has a laboratory that does ultrafast laser stuff (basically femtolaser stuff)(helps that I am a physicist) but the name FemtoLab is never said anywhere. The external sources links don't work anymore. Thus, it seems to me that this lab exists but it is no where officially called FemtoLab, at least I didn't find any such naming. So, I can not support this article but more or less say that the naming of the page is likely wrong if not even the supposed leader of the lab at that university, who also leads the fast laser stuff, has something with femto on his own website and university page.

What do I do with this page now?

All the best,

ReliableScience1 ReliableScience1 (talk) 09:37, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

If you're unable to find reliable sources confirming the specific name "FemtoLab" for the laboratory you're editing, it's important to maintain accuracy and avoid making unsupported claims in the Wikipedia article. Here are some steps you can consider:
Remove unsupported information: If you cannot find reliable sources that explicitly mention the name "FemtoLab" for the laboratory, consider removing or rephrasing the information related to the lab's name. Stick to information that you can verify from reliable sources.
Provide general information: Even if the lab isn't officially called "FemtoLab," you can still provide general information about the laboratory, its activities, research focus, and any notable achievements. This way, you contribute to the article without relying on an unsupported name.
Add a note or section about naming uncertainty: If it's relevant and appropriate, you could add a brief note or section in the article expressing the uncertainty about the lab's name. Mention that while the term "FemtoLab" is commonly used, there's no official confirmation from reliable sources.
Seek community input: Wikipedia is a collaborative platform, and if you're unsure about how to handle the situation, consider seeking input from the Wikipedia community. You can discuss the issue on the article's talk page, and experienced editors may provide guidance or suggest solutions.
Look for alternative sources: Sometimes, information might be available in less conventional sources such as academic papers, conference proceedings, or official university announcements. Explore different avenues to see if you can find any references that confirm the lab's name.
Best, ChickenLordd ChickenLordd (talk) 04:00, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
ChickenLordd, your AI-generated response is not helpful at all. To ReliableScience: For what it's worth, I've managed to find a snapshot of their website from last year here, but the page doesn't mentnion the name FemtoLab. This is certainly a tricky situation, but my advice would be that if you find a suitable name, move the page yourself per WP:BOLDMOVE or start a WP:RM discussion to rename the page to a different title. If you feel like the lab isn't notable at all (meaning that it hasn't received sufficient coverage from independent, reliable sources) and that a properly sourced article would be impossible to achieve, use the Wikipedia:Proposed deletion-process. If you're hesitant, I'd ask at the Help desk or WikiProject Physics for assistance since this isn't a topic area I'm really faniliar with. Good luck, NotAGenious (talk) 11:21, 25 February 2024 (UTC)

Hey man im josh (talk) 15:29, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

@Tesinfotech : I'm sure you do, but that's not possible per WP:NOTPROMO. Only article s of notable companies are created. Consider choosing a suitable platform from List of social networking services instead. NotAGenious (talk) 10:51, 1 March 2024 (UTC)

Question from Jeffreyleo on Petrini's (09:33, 1 March 2024)

Hello, how do I know it is an advertisement? --Jeffreyleo (talk) 09:33, 1 March 2024 (UTC)

@Jeffreyleo : It's not all bad, but there's certainly some text that doesn't follow a neutral point of view. Such as Petrine expanded its footprint, inaugurating three additional markets in close proximity to the original site. could be Petrine went on to inaugurate three more markets near the original site. or something like that. If you'll be making an edit to address there kinds of issues, I'm more than happy to check the article again and remove the tag from the article if it seems sufficient. NotAGenious (talk) 10:51, 1 March 2024 (UTC)

Your recent relist

Hello,

I saw you recently relisted Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Write the Infinite Article. I don't really see a need for a relist here - plenty of people have weighed in already. There IS a cost to endlessly relisting discussions over and over. It's not a big deal, I'm not asking the relist be overturned or anything, just as an FYI for the future.

But more generally... this is awkward, because enthusiasm to help out is great. But in general, you shouldn't relist unless you could also have closed a discussion (a relist is a "close" of sorts of the type that says that there is insufficient consensus to close). And from your contribution history, you've only !voted at MFD 2-3 times in the past? MFD isn't so hard up for clerks as to be that desperate for non-admin closers not familiar with it to do relists. It's okay to just wait and let someone else do it. Admins are trusted to close basically anything, but in general, non-admins should only close areas that they've participated in a decent amount to make sure they know how things work in a region. e.g. non-admins shouldn't close requested moves without commenting and voting on requested moves some first; that way you get to know standards and stances in a region. I'd recommend !voting at MFD for some time before you start "closing" MFDs as a non-admin. Just a friendly suggestion. SnowFire (talk) 19:08, 1 March 2024 (UTC)

@SnowFire : thank you for sharing your thoughts, I'll keep them in mind. NotAGenious (talk) 20:40, 1 March 2024 (UTC)

Question from Ruffeboi (22:26, 9 March 2024)

Hi, as a person who watches too much YouTube, here's a question: At what point is a influencer (not necessarily a youtuber) eligible for getting their Wikipedia article? At hundreds of thousands of followers, millions, tens of millions? I can imagine that it's quite context-dependant, especially considering that short-form content seems to get disproportionately more attention compared to longer forms... Is there any standard for notability? A YT shorts creator with millions of subscribers for example, what about that? Thanks! --Ruffeboi (talk) 22:26, 9 March 2024 (UTC)

@Ruffeboi Great question, short answer is that probably never. Influencers aren't a WP:SNG, meaning all biographies should meet WP:BASIC, which from experience, is quite rare for influencers even with millions of followers. If you have a biography to create in mind, I'll be happy to check notability for you. Just leave me a message.

Question from Fotobairn (01:21, 2 March 2024)

Hi there - thank you for being willing to help - I'm a first time editor and I'm looking to add details and images to the page on the photographer Bob Willoughby. Question from Saltycyclist on Sony Xperia 1 (16:59, 8 March 2024)

Hello, nice to meet you. I tried to make an easy edit by breaking up a long run-on sentence into 2, more readable sentences on the suggested Sony page but got an error that I was trying to add an emoji (I wasn’t). Maybe it’s because I’m on my phone? Is editing on a phone not recommended? Thank you! Best, Salty --Saltycyclist (talk) 16:59, 8 March 2024 (UTC)

Hello! It looks like you accidentally inserted some snowman emoji in your edit (after (J9150) was released exclusively in Japan,); according to the edit filter log. RFA2024 update: no longer accepting new proposals in phase I

Hey there! This is to let you know that phase I of the 2024 requests for adminship (RfA) review is now no longer accepting new proposals. Lots of proposals remain open for discussion, and the current round of review looks to be on a good track towards making significant progress towards improving RfA's structure and environment. I'd like to give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has given us their idea for change to make RfA better, and the same to everyone who has given the necessary feedback to improve those ideas. The following proposals remain open for discussion:

  • Proposal 2, initiated by HouseBlaster, provides for the addition of a text box at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship reminding all editors of our policies and enforcement mechanisms around decorum.
  • Proposals 3 and 3b, initiated by Barkeep49 and Usedtobecool, respectively, provide for trials of discussion-only periods at RfA. The first would add three extra discussion-only days to the beginning, while the second would convert the first two days to discussion-only.
  • Proposal 5, initiated by SilkTork, provides for a trial of RfAs without threaded discussion in the voting sections.
  • Proposals 6c and 6d, initiated by BilledMammal, provide for allowing users to be selected as provisional admins for a limited time through various concrete selection criteria and smaller-scale vetting.
  • Proposal 7, initiated by Lee Vilenski, provides for the "General discussion" section being broken up with section headings.
  • Proposal 9b, initiated by Reaper Eternal, provides for the requirement that allegations of policy violation be substantiated with appropriate links to where the alleged misconduct occured.
  • Proposals 12c, 21, and 21b, initiated by City of Silver, Ritchie333, and HouseBlaster, respectively, provide for reducing the discretionary zone, which currently extends from 65% to 75%. The first would reduce it 65%–70%, the second would reduce it to 50%–66%, and the third would reduce it to 60%–70%.
  • Proposal 13, initiated by Novem Lingaue, provides for periodic, privately balloted admin elections.
  • Proposal 14, initiated by Kusma, provides for the creation of some minimum suffrage requirements to cast a vote.
  • Proposals 16 and 16c, initiated by Thebiguglyalien and Soni, respectively, provide for community-based admin desysop procedures. 16 would desysop where consensus is established in favor at the administrators' noticeboard; 16c would allow a petition to force reconfirmation.
  • Proposal 16e, initiated by BilledMammal, would extend the recall procedures of 16 to bureaucrats.
  • Proposal 17, initiated by SchroCat, provides for "on-call" admins and 'crats to monitor RfAs for decorum.
  • Proposal 18, initiated by theleekycauldron, provides for lowering the RfB target from 85% to 75%.
  • Proposal 24, initiated by SportingFlyer, provides for a more robust alternate version of the optional candidate poll.
  • Proposal 25, initiated by Femke, provides for the requirement that nominees be extended-confirmed in addition to their nominators.
  • Proposal 27, initiated by WereSpielChequers, provides for the creation of a training course for admin hopefuls, as well as periodic retraining to keep admins from drifting out of sync with community norms.
  • Proposal 28, initiated by HouseBlaster, tightens restrictions on multi-part questions.

To read proposals that were closed as unsuccessful, please see Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review/Phase I/Closed proposals. You are cordially invited once again to participate in the open discussions; when phase I ends, phase II will review the outcomes of trial proposals and refine the implementation details of other proposals. Another notification will be sent out when this phase begins, likely with the first successful close of a major proposal. Happy editing! theleekycauldron (talk • she/her), via:

Question from Spinningbeads (16:34, 16 March 2024)

Update: I think I've answered my own question, but I can't figure out how to delete this. So that's my new question

Greetings Mentor! I am a newbie here and I am working on major updates for a Wiki page. The existing page is in dire need of help as it is disorganized, formatted poorly, and needs significant update and new material. The page is for a band called Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real. I am wondering if a near complete rewrite is acceptable. I’ve reviewed Wiki policies and found nothing to indicate this would not be within policy. If I can move forward, I will have a couple more questions! --Spinningbeads (talk) 16:34, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

Hello I'd like to add one of my close family Cobrah's wikipedia page. She has her full name there which is Clara Blom Christensen, which im trying to remove so that she cannot be traced in her home country of Sweden. AFDs

Hello, NotAGenious,

Thanks for your help in AFDLand. But please do not relist a discussion just because it hasn't been closed. There are some administrators who focus on closing difficult discussions and they usually find these discussions by looking at "old" cases that haven't been closed. So sometimes, the regular closers pass on closing a discussion and leave it for these admins to handle. It's hard to describe these cases but, as a rule of thumb, if a discussion has been listed twice, with no new comments, then it usually doesn't need to be listed a third time. No one is likely to come to the discussion and participate. However, since it has been relisted, these closers won't see it for another week, leaving the participants a little frustrated. I guess I'm just advising you to carefully consider whether a discussion would benefit from another week of discussion. If it looks like nothing new has been added to the discussion in a couple of weeks, please do not relist it again. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 07:39, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Thaai Kelavi was not a good discussion for an NAC closure. Please, carefully review Wikipedia:Non-admin closure. This could be considered a "close call" as the majority of editors argued for deletion. By closing this discussion as an NAC closer, and closing it early, you are opening up yourself to being brought to Wikipedia:Deletion review which isn't a very pleasant experience. Please follow the guidelines at the NAC policy page very closely if you want to be particiating in administrative tasks in AFDs. We frequently get editors who are a little over eager who get into trouble and I hope you can avoid this happening. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 07:55, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

Question from Wroliver (14:55, 5 April 2024)

Hello, I'm interested in submitting a bio I've written for a dance/choreographer named LaTasha Barnes. I've read the rules for writing bios, and am citing sources for all facts. I have a couple of questions: 1- How do I find the article I already started in Wikipedia? I entered a couple of paragraphs, and thought I saved it by clicking on "publish," which I understood wasn't actually publishing, but saving, since it would have to undergo review before appearing online publicly. Is this a correct assumption? 2-There is some biographical info that I got from Barnes' CV, mostly the names & dates of all the awards/prizes she has received. Is this allowed? I'm not sure how I'd go about verifying 30-40 different awards. Thanks so much for your help! Sincerely, Wendy --Wroliver (talk) 14:55, 5 April 2024 (UTC)

My question is, since it looks like the last activity on the talk page was in 2011, what should I do if I don't get any response to my question?
