Hey there. I'm a member of the 2008 Board Election Committee. Unfortunately, due to some technical problems at the start of the election, the ballot that you submitted is invalid. Back in April here to jog your hard working memory, i know your extremely busy on here. Well, looking at the list of Wikipedians by edits reveals that 175,884 registered people inc. bots edited Wikipedia in that month (until 23 May). Cascading protection, Barack Obama

Is there a log or forum anywhere indicating a request, rationale and intended length of time for the cascading protection of the Barack Obama? It is impairing the editing of linked templates relating to the presidential articles. A little like an ant colony in amber. Multiple items frozen in time.

user:Daynal

edit

It would appear that the user Daynal has been deleted under the rubrics of 'normal housekeeping'. What becomes of the talk page associated with the user, and is deletion for normal housekeeping considered an automatic function?

--75.105.7.0 (talk) 06:59, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

If it is in the temporary category, it will eventually be deleted. Nakon 13:55, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! It would appear then to be open to reuse by others. Is this correct?--72.250.232.242 (talk) 21:04, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Deleting a user page does not actually delete the user from the database. The user's contributions still exist and as a result the user account may not be reregistered. Nakon 21:50, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you again! Then the invitation to open a new account "Log in or create an account to start the User:Daynal page" is not capable of being accepted? If true, then the objective of the user will have been accomplished. If not, other means will have to be explored. Any further thoughts?--75.104.136.41 (talk) 03:22, 6 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

edit

I don't have an account there, neither do many others. We were spammed through e-mail, and I'll be damned if I have to sign up for an account just to put my name on a Do-Not-Spam list. Half the edits there are from IPs that don't want to bother to sign up for the site. The spam email said nothing about having to jump through hoops just to get off the list. I do not want to have to check the stupid list every day to make sure it wasn't removed by you or someone else. Do not remove our names. SashaNein (talk) 12:50, 6 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

With SUL, people can log in without registering. I removed the names because they could have been added by anyone. If you notice later, I readded everyone. Nakon 13:37, 6 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

WP:DUCK. Nakon 18:30, 20 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Dear Nakon, I respectfully request that you reconsider this closure. The article was in the process of revisions and the discussion itself was marred by what are really "I don't like it" comments by accounts unwilling to even considering arguing to keep in AfDs, i.e. unwilling to acknowledge the revision efforts (please notice, for example, these comments made elsewhere by some participants in that discussion: [1], [2], [3], etc.). It is obviously hard to convince anyone who says their "mission" or "goal" is to delete or who regard those arguing to keep such articles as "acne-ridden mongoloid fanboys obsessed with keeping every single piece of crap." Thus, I am concerned that such discussions as this one do not reflect an actual neutral or unbiased consensus. Sincerely, --Le Grand Roi des CitrouillesTally-ho! 06:01, 21 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Irish names

edit

Please do not delete relevant additions to talk pages such as the Irish names I added.[4][5] This is a legitimate topic of discission (see here for a previous example of discussion by other users) and no unsourced info was added to the mainspace. The translations I added are taken from a poor quality source (itself unsourced) and should not be added to the article without additional confirmation. But they are legitimate for a talk page to inspire others to help confirm them. Thanks. Irish Name (talk) 18:42, 23 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't have an issue with it being added to Theobald Wolfe Tone, but it certainly doesn't need to be canvassed to the talk page of anyone who has an Irish-sounding surname (especially individuals who are not native Irish or who do not speak Gaelic). We don't automatically do that for other surnames; there's no need to do it for Irish ones. OhNoitsJamie Talk 18:48, 23 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
It's not automatic but it is common even for other languages. For example, Lynn Chen's Chinese is prominently displayed in mainspace despite being born and raised in the United States. I was only adding these names to the talk page. If you think that's not an appropriate subject for discussion, please change the talk page rules but don't summarily delete entries. Nothing personal. I'm sure you were just in the habit of deleting excessive non-notable bands. But this is a notable band that is playing the upcoming monolith festival in Denver, with coverage by multiple reliable secondary sources. Code Name: Desert Hunt

it's basically an RPG that is starting out. It's got some unique features, but I have to say that we started this wiki page rather haphazardly and as such I wrote this article more or less alone. The plan was to have most of our members update it over the course of the following day... but...

anyhow, is it okay if we try again if we do a better job on the page showing how it's relevant etc.? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bindoverbindo (talkcontribs) 06:58, 4 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

St Radegund public house

edit

Hi, could you tell me why St Radegund public house was deleted? It was apparently given 5 days with a proposed deletion notice, which is policy, but still seems a little short on an article that got less than 5 edits a year. As far as I can tell, no discussion was sought, and since I am not an admin, I can't see any details of the proposed deletion notice.

Could I request you copy the proposed deletion reason into the deletion summary for future deletions, for the benefit of non-admins? Thanks, --Ozhiker (talk) 16:48, 8 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

User committed identity + GPG fingerprint + Secure GW, but STILL banned from editing pages?

edit

I keep getting blocked from adding some useful requested citations to a couple of pages about cellulosic ethanol yields and I'd like to suggest that universally blocking anonymizer.com users doesn't seem to make much sense. This is a legitimate commercial security solution which we pay for, and it is of the quality and reputation that one would hope clueful folks like Wikipedia would enthusiastically endorse.

I understand that the mods at Wikipedia have godlike powers and I'm duly fearful of being slapped down hard for even daring to raise such a question, but my point is not combative at all. I am merely suggesting that if I am willing to stand by my every keystroke entered on the site, it seems I should also have the right to protect every bit in transit to and from the site and my strongly authenticated identity. Am I completely out of line on that suggestion?

I now have a mondo WHIRLPOOL User committed identity + GPG fingerprint + coming into the site on Secure Gateway. That seems like a pretty good safety net to me.

Look forward to learning your perspective. metavalent (talk) 08:28, 15 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on this page, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because the article is a page created primarily to disparage its subject or a biography of a living person that is controversial in tone and unsourced, where there is no neutral point of view version in the history to revert to. (CSD G10).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting the article, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate the article itself. edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Kvrx1.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:11, 3 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
