I had already found one that I had made a mistake on, and reverted my nomination. If you see any that just need to be retargeted to a new team, you can just make a note, strike it out, and revert my nomination. I reviewed your vast experience and wanted to contact you about helping to resolve a dispute. I'm being teamed up against by a group of self-avowed libertarians. I don't care that they are libertarians (or if you are) except for the fact they are using their ideology to skew the Koch Industries article. When I post positive things about Koch, they don't blink an eye, but if I dare put up anything critical, it gets deleted and frowned upon without balance. I'm trying to round up some disinterested third party input so I'm not getting steamrolled by biased editors. My goal is to make the article more informative and encyclopedic and that's it. WikiCup 2013 February newsletter

Round 1 is now over. The top 64 scorers have progressed to round 2, where they have been randomly split into eight pools of eight. At the end of April, the top two from each pool, as well as the 16 highest scorers from those remaining, will progress to round 3. Commiserations to those eliminated; if you're interested in still being involved in the WikiCup, able and willing reviewers will always be needed, and if you're interested in getting involved with other collaborative projects, take a look at the WikiWomen's Month discussed below.

Round 1 saw 21 competitors with over 100 points, which is fantastic; that suggests that this year's competition is going to be highly competative. Our lower scores indicate this, too: A score of 19 was required to reach round 2, which was significantly higher than the 11 points required in 2012 and 8 points required in 2011. The score needed to reach round 3 will be higher, and may depend on pool groupings. In 2011, 41 points secured a round 3 place, while in 2012, 65 was needed. Our top three scorers in round 1 were:

1. Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), primarily for an array of warship GAs.
2. Miyagawa (submissions), primarily for an array of did you knows and good articles, some of which were awarded bonus points.
3. Casliber (submissions), due in no small part to Canis Minor, a featured article awarded a total of 340 points. A joint submission with Keilana (submissions), this is the highest scoring single article yet submitted in this year's competition.

Other contributors of note include:

• Sven Manguard (submissions), whose Portal:Massachusetts is the first featured portal this year. The featured portal process is one of the less well-known featured processes, and featured portals have traditionally had little impact on WikiCup scores.
• Sasata (submissions), whose Mycena aurantiomarginata was the first featured article this year.
• Muboshgu (submissions) and Wizardman (submissions), who both claimed points for articles in the Major League Baseball tie-breakers topic, the first topic points in the competition.
• Toa Nidhiki05 (submissions), who claimed for the first full good topic with the Casting Crowns studio albums topic.

Featured topics have still played no part in this year's competition, but once again, a curious contribution has been offered by The C of E (submissions): did you know that there is a Shit Brook in Shropshire? With April Fools' Day during the next round, there will probably be a good chance of more unusual articles...

March sees the WikiWomen's History Month, a series of collaborative efforts to aid the women's history WikiProject to coincide with Women's History Month and International Women's Day. A number of WikiCup participants have already started to take part. The project has a to-do list of articles needing work on the topic of women's history. Those interested in helping out with the project can find articles in need of attention there, or, alternatively, add articles to the list. Those interested in collaborating on articles on women's history are also welcome to use the WikiCup talk page to find others willing to lend a helping hand. Another collaboration currently running is an an effort from WikiCup participants to coordinate a number of Easter-themed did you know articles. Contributions are welcome!

A few final administrative issues. From now on, submission pages will need only a link to the article and a link to the nomination page, or, in the case of good article reviews, a link to the review only. See your submissions' page for details. This will hopefully make updating submission pages a little less tedious. It was hard enough for me watching Jorge and Andy (temporarily) retire. Mo and Derek are a step above that for me. You're allowed to get credit for co-nominating featured content and DYKs. Good articles have to be solo. If you didn't notice, I don't have any GA or FA/FL noms right now; I've been dialing down my time here too due to work demands. I'm more in the Cup than really competing. I competed hardcore last year and made the final round. I don't expect to reach the next round this time. Hi, Muboshgu, I have a couple of questions for you:

1) Regarding this edit, what is the different between the 3 columns setting and the "30em" setting, and how does it relate to browser ability?

2) Should we change the hook for Bruce Rondón, as suggested by Ryan?

1) "30em" refers to the width of columns. Setting it that way, wider browsers can accommodate more columns, while narrower browsers will come up with fewer columns.

2) It wouldn't hurt. I don't understand the objection, since it's a fact that Dombrowski said that, but it's best to be prepared. I don't have any alts in mind at the moment though. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:56, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

An idea

Hey Muboshgu! Long time no hear. Would you like to team up with me to claim the first featured topic for this year's WikiCup? The potential FT list can be viewed in my sandbox—basically, only three lists need to be completed up to FL standard. The 20–20–20 club list was rejected at FLC last August, but the peer review from before is enough, since it lacks 10 items. The 40–40 club still needs a PR for 4 items, which leaves List of Major League Baseball statistical clubs as the only FL needed to complete the topic. Removing Crowley Post as Coatrack?

Per WP:COATRACK, the information on how the media has portrayed the Steubenville rape doesn't belong on the biography page of Crowley. It belongs on Steubenville High School rape case. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:11, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

So I updated it in a way that I believe it is not a coatrack - but I don't understand why it wouldn't be on both Crowley's page and the Steubenville high school rape case since it is an aspect of her career for which she has received intense media scrutiny, such as the presidential debate. By your logic, wouldn't that entry that you updated and let remain also only belong on the Presidential debate page? Thank you for making me aware of the coatrack policy, but I believe I changed the entry to avoid that initial perception. I will pursue this with higher tier editors at Wikipedia if you remove it completely again, since you are not being logically consistent with the editing policies, as you have explained them here.67.185.15.179 (talk) 19:22, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Numbers

Yes I understand that it is from a former team but still people do that with players who just signed they put random numbers in and I check the official website and they don't have official numbers yet which makes that irrelevant. Minor league baseball

In both Casey and Brock Bond's frontpaged articles you say they play in "minor league baseball in the San Francisco Giants organization". Aren't the Giants major league? Or does this refer to some odd baseball convention? 8ty3hree (talk) 21:03, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

All MLB teams have minor league affiliates, since it's incredibly rare for a player to go straight to the majors after they get drafted. Both Casey and Brock have played in minor league baseball. In either case, the consensus is you and I. We are grown ups lets mediate on a way to refocus it. If your response is simply mass undo's and redirects to a talk page with nobody there but you ... well then it's clear you don't want to collaborate.

WikiCup 2013 March newsletter

We are halfway through round two. Pool A sees the strongest competition, with five out of eight of its competitors scoring over 100, and Pool H is lagging, with half of its competitors yet to score. WikiCup veterans lead overall; Pool A's Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) (2010's winner) leads overall, with poolmate Miyagawa (submissions) (a finalist in 2011 and 2012) not far behind. Pool F's Casliber (submissions) (a finalist in 2010, 2011 and 2012) is in third. The top two scorers in each pool, as well as the next highest 16 scorers overall, will progress to round three at the end of April.

Today has seen a number of Easter-themed did you knows from WikiCup participants, and March has seen collaboration from contestants with WikiWomen's History Month. It's great to see the WikiCup being used as a locus of collaboration; if you know of any collaborative efforts going on, or want to start anything up, please feel free to use the WikiCup talk page to help find interested editors. As well as fostering collaboration, we're also seeing the Cup encouraging the improvement of high-importance articles through the bonus point system. Highlights from the last month include GAs on physicist Niels Bohr ( Hawkeye7 (submissions)), on the European hare ( Cwmhiraeth (submissions)), on the constellation Circinus ( Keilana (submissions) and Casliber (submissions)) and on the Third Epistle of John ( Cerebellum (submissions)). All of these subjects were covered on at least 50 Wikipedias at the beginning of the year and, subsequently, each contribution was awarded at least three times as many points as normal.

Wikipedians who enjoy friendly competition may be interested in participating in April's wikification drive. While wikifying an article is typically not considered "significant work" such that it can be claimed for WikiCup points, such gnomish work is often invaluable in keeping articles in shape, and is typically very helpful for new writers who may not be familiar with formatting norms.

A quick reminder: now, submission pages will need only a link to the article and a link to the nomination page, or, in the case of good article reviews, a link to the review only. See your submissions' page for details. This will hopefully make updating submission pages a little less tedious. Don't worry. Take your time; even I'm pretty busy with exams around the corner. On another note, the one thing I refrained from adding to the lead is the voting, which is unclear. TSN says the Canadian Baseball HOF "does not release vote totals", while this source says Votto "received over 80 per cent of the vote." Virginia gubernatorial election, 2013

The text below is already noted on Bill Bolling's page. Comments such as, "praised by many Republicans as a noble act", are opinion. It lacks citation. The Washington Post, while read by Virginians, is a newspaper based out of DC, not Virginia. Explaining Bolling's disappointment and refusal to endorse Cuccinelli is an attempt to appeal to the reader's emotion and sway their opinion. The information regarding Bolling's running as a independent candidate is outdated, because he suspended his campaign.

"Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling, elected to the post in 2005, decided to run for re-election as lieutenant governor in 2009 to allow McDonnell to run for governor without a primary, praised by many Republicans as a noble act. After the 2009 election, Bolling made no secret of his intention to run for governor in 2013, while Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli openly stated that he was considering three options: a run for re-election as attorney general in 2013, running for the U.S. Senate in 2014, and running for governor in 2013.[citation needed] On November 30, 2011, The Washington Post reported that Cuccinelli would announce a run for governor within days. Cuccinelli announced to colleagues on December 1, 2011, that he was indeed running.[1]

Bolling responded on the same day that he was disappointed that Cuccinelli decided to challenge him[2] and withdrew from the race on November 28, 2012. He cited Republican Party's decision to move to a nominating convention rather than a primary. He did not rule out the possibility of running as an independent candidate but did rule out running for another term as Lieutenant Governor. Bolling also refused to endorse Cuccinelli.[3]"

Basically, this text on the Virginia gubernatorial election, 2013 is unnecessary (as I stated in the edit's reasoning). But if it is not unnecessary and deemed appropriate, then any opinion or bias regarding any of the candidates, like I posted regarding Sarvis, should be considered legitimate. But it is not due to Wiki's nuetral policy.

Hello. I am 72 Forbush. You recently removed my edit of the article on Mo Cowan. The source (Boston Globe) is incorrect in reporting that Sen. Cowan was the first person from his high school to attend Duke University. A number of persons from Forbush High graduated from Duke at earlier dates, including me. I graduated from the same high school in 1972 and received undergraduate (1976) and law (1976) degrees from Duke. I am aware of two persons from Forbush High who graduated from Duke before I did. Corey Lee

Hi Muboshgu, I was wondering if you get a chance, could take a look at this article because I'm really confused trying to figure this out? I was looking through the history and I find it strange but it appears the article is now about a different person than it was on April 17, 2013.[1] The reason I'm asking you is because I noticed that it was you who reverted an edit[2] to John Oldham (baseball) after User:1remains did the same thing as is happening here and that same editor's name is appearing a number of times in the Corey Lee history[3] as well. The recent edits that changed who the Corey Lee article is about were made by an IP not User:1remians, but also looking through the history, it appears that user had previously changed to another person but eventually self-reverted, and even more strange is that same IP was editing at that time as well, which leads me to wonder if they are the same person? I'm thinking the article should probably be reverted back to the edit before any of these changes were made. The article version before was[4], and the very first edit here by User:1remains changed it to[5]. I know this sounds all confusing but I'm trying to explain it the best I can. You're right that it was vandalized, so I reverted it. In the future, you can feel free to revert it as well. The issue becomes how to prevent it from happening again, since these two instances are likely the same person. WikiCup 2013 April newsletter

We are a week into Round 3, but it is off to a flying start, with Sven Manguard (submissions) claiming for the high-importance Portal:Sports and Portal:Geography (which are the first portals ever awarded bonus points in the WikiCup) and Cwmhiraeth (submissions) claiming for a did you know of sea, the highest scoring individual did you know article ever submitted for the WikiCup. Round 2 saw very impressive scores at close; first place Casliber (submissions) and second place Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) both scored over 1000 points; a feat not seen in Round 2 since 2010. This, in part, has been made possible by the change in the bonus points rules, but is also testament to the quality of the competition this year. Pool C and Pool G were most competitive, with three quarters of participants making it to Round 3, while Pool D was the least, with only the top two scorers making it through. The lowest qualifying score was 123, significantly higher than last year's 65, 2011's 41 or even 2010's 100.

The next issue of The Signpost is due to include a brief update on the current WikiCup, comparing it to previous years' competitions. This may be of interest to current WikiCup followers, and may help bring some more new faces into the community. We would also like to note that this round includes an extra competitor to the 32 advertised, who has been added to a random pool. This extra inclusion seems to have been the fairest way to deal with a small mistake made before the beginning of this round, but should not affect the competition in a large way. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please feel free to contact one of the judges.

A rules clarification: content promoted between rounds can be claimed in the round after the break, but not the round before. The case in point is content promoted on 29/30 April, which may be claimed in this round. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.
