I resent that accusation. I didn't remember that I created the redirect. Correa at this point is not notable in my eyes, but I'm following consensus, and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Albert Suarez reaffirmed that consensus is to merge active players. It's been more than one AFD. It's one recent AFD, but a whole long line of AFD's in the past. I figured we'd give it a shot with Suarez, but consensus appears to still be where it is. Clint Eastwood

Hi Muboshgu. I saw your most recent edits. Finally, someone opened their eyes and saw the problems with the cites that I repeatedly mentioned in my edit comments and on Cresix's talk page. :) In terms of "wide coverage", that is an objective fact, not subjective or POV. Have you read Clint Eastwood at the 2012 Republican National Convention? Here are a few quotes from that article, which of course are fully supported by the sources and the facts:

• "The speech, broadcast in a prime time slot, was viewed live by about 30 million Americans. It met with a wide array of responses and stirred discussion."
• "Eastwood's speech was viewed live by 30.3 million Americans, across at least 11 television networks which were broadcasting coverage of the convention. (Those numbers do not count those watching on C-SPAN, whose audience is not measured.)"

Clearly, that article and the sources absolutely verify that the speech received wide media coverage. It's a fact, not an opinion. Would anyone who's familiar with the speech say that it did not receive wide media coverage? Of course not. The problem with the wording in Clint Eastwood, as it stands now, is that it gives no indication whatsoever how "big"/prominent the speech was in the media (newspapers, television, online, etc). It is the most famous speech Eastwood has ever given, and will certainly be the one he's most remembered for. Yet reading the article gives no indication of that at all. It needs to do that to accurately reflect what happened. In any case, thank you for being the first editor to recognize the problems with the cites that I had alluded to many times. When someone deletes an entire edit, including all the good parts, it indicates that it's personal rather than to help improve the project. User:Activist inappropriate editing at Clint Eastwood talk page

This is to make you aware that User:Activist copy and pasted my and Cresix's comments from Cresix's talk page and his own talk page into the Clint Eastwood talk page, as if Cresix and I posted them there ourselves. Here's the edit. I couldn't believe it when I saw it because I knew I hadn't posted those comments there. Activist did not have my permission to do that, and I assume he did not have Cresix's permission either. I removed Cresix's and my comments from the Eastwood talk page. Activist also copy and pasted his own comment from Cresix's talk page, including the original date/time posted. I'm not sure what can be done about this, but I'll leave it up to you and Cresix to decide. I don't know Activist, but I told him in my edit comment never to do that again. I do agree that the empty chair speech content needs to be expanded a bit in the Eastwood article, but what Activist did is ridiculously inappropriate. Is there any way the DGA icon template can be implemented to the Mountain page? Also, I don't see a way to add a DGA to the Hall Project page (probably requires higher level of user rights). I'm speaking of the Roberto Clemente article, for example. I was about to promote this to a prep area but I noticed your approval note said "I would suggest using ALT1 after a slight rewrite for clarity", which to me means that you have a problem with ALT1 as it is, but still think it superior to the others.

Approved hooks are currently at a premium: there are 15 to fill 9 slots, and a lot of them deserve consideration as lead slots which means they're less likely to be chosen: Happy Wheels is a prime target. Please consider making that rewrite yourself; I've just failed at my own attempt, so I'll hold off promoting it for now, but I think you're more likely to end up with one of the other hooks (or, worse, an unedited ALT1). Removing Speedy at Bill Geivett

WikiCup 2012 September newsletter

We're over half way through the final, and so it is less than a month until we know for certain our 2012 WikiCup champion. Grapple X (submissions) currently leads, followed by Sasata (submissions), Cwmhiraeth (submissions) and Casliber (submissions). However, we have no one resembling a breakaway leader, and so the competition is a long way from over. Next month's newsletter will feature a list of our winners (who are not necessarily only the finalists) and keep your eyes open for an article on the WikiCup in a future edition of The Signpost. The leaders are already on a par with last year's winners, but a long way from the huge scores seen in 2010. That said, a repeat of the competition from 2010 seems unlikely.

It is good to see that three-quarters of our finalists have already scored bonus points this round. This shows that, contrary to criticism that the WikiCup has received in the past, the competition does not merely incentivise the writing of trivial articles; instead, our top competitors are still spending their time contributing to high-importance articles, and bringing them to a high standard. This does a great service to the encyclopedia and its readers. Thank you, and good work!

The planning for next year's WikiCup is ongoing. Some straw polls have been opened concerning the scoring, and you can now sign up for next year's competition. Portal:NFL and GA question

Hi, Muboshgu. I have a couple of questions for you.

1) When linking an article to Portal:National Football League, I see the icon. However, when I link it to the redirect Portal:NFL, instead I get the generic puzzle piece instead of the NFL icon. Why is that and how could it be remedied?

2) If I was try getting an umpire article or article(s) to GA status, how long do you think the articles would be expected to be? After all, umpires don't get nearly as much coverage as players, so there isn't nearly as much to write about in many cases. You have plenty of GA experience, do you know what the expectations would be regarding umpire pages?

The puzzle piece means the template doesn't recognize the inputted parameters. I suppose you could put in an edit request at {{Portal}} to change that. As for umpires, I would expect that like any other article, the page would need to be comprehensive. That's hard to define, but there can't be any major gaps in their bio. Overall, I think it's close. It's certainly long enough and seems fairly comprehensive. Without diving into it too deeply, I believe the lead could use some expansion, the body could use some more inline citations, and some general cleanup and rephrasings would help (I don't know if a reviewer would be okay with a phrase like "sparked controversy", the abbreviation NAIA should be spelled out, the references need to be filled in, and the picture should be moved up so it's out of the reference section, for starters) – Muboshgu (talk) 17:48, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Since I have had no luck getting PM800 to answer my post questioning the two paragraphs and eight footnotes he added to Freddie Lindstrom, I turn to you again because you're the one who deleted my previous additions to his version. In an earlier note PM800 told me all his footnotes were reliable, and if I had questions to go to them. So I did. Here are the results: Footnote 30, correct. 31 (Richard Barbieri, Hardball Times) makes no mention of Lindstrom. 32 and 33 (Jay Jaffe, Baseball Prospectus)in e-mail Aug 24,2012 agrees that his charge of "croneyism" by the Veterans Committee's so-called ringleader Frank Frisch highly unlikely since Frisch died 3 years before Lindstrom's nomination. Jaffe also said he had no evidence to support the claim. 34, correct, but a blanket accusation of the committee's choices in general, not of croneyism toward former Giants and Cardinals. 35, unable to verify because of restricted access. 36 (Clark Booth, Dorchester Times) in e-mail Oct 5, 2012 says "I don't actually have any issue with Freddie being in the HOF," he said. "Mainly I argue for more people to be elected, not fewer. I think Freddie was a good choice." 37, James has all the right in the world to his opinion that Lindstrom is the worst third baseman in the Hall. But others such as Hall of Fame sportswriter Red Smith, Bob Broeg and Fred Lieb called him a worthy choice (attribution available, if you're interested). All I ask is that the unsubstantiated "croney" charge be deleted and that we add Dan Popoloski's 11/11/2011 Bleacher Report ranking Lindstrom 13th in a list of the 15 best 3d basemen in MLB history. Proposition 32 is a controversial ballot measure in California. It is best left as neutral as possible. What was posted, though cited, was clearly promoting one agenda over the other and therefore not accurately reporting the proposition which has both pros and cons. I missed it. The charges of cronyism against the Veterans Committee are valid, and are included on the wiki pages of HOFers George Kelly (baseball), Burleigh Grimes, Dave Bancroft, and others. I am completely opposed to adding any references to Bleacher Report, because it is a blog and not a reliable source. Good point on Frisch's death. I didn't consider that. However, Bill Terry remained on the committee when Lindstrom was elected, and there were still charges of cronyism related to Lindstrom's election.[4] – Muboshgu (talk) 14:40, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

Reason for the mess on additions to Legacy: I kept screwing up the footnotes back slash. Could you point out where further verifications are needed. Thanks. And thanks for the Dick Young piece. I hope you noticed, though, that Young trashes all 12 members of the "Old Croney Committee," not just Frisch or Terry. As president of the BBWA at the time (1976), he was an outspoken opponent of the committee for diluting the writers' right to name HOF members. They, in turn, came about because the BBWA was so slow to add new entrants. WikiCup 2012 October newsletter

The 2012 WikiCup has come to a close; congratulations to Cwmhiraeth (submissions), our 2012 champion! Cwmhiraeth joins our exclusive club of previous winners: Dreamafter (2007), jj137 (2008), Durova (2009), Sturmvogel 66 (2010) and Hurricanehink (2011). Our final standings were as follows:

Every participant who scored in the competition will receive a ribbon of participation. In addition to the prizes based on placement, the following special prizes will be awarded based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, the prize is awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round.

• The featured article award goes to Grapple X (submissions), for four featured articles in the final round.
• The good article award also goes to Grapple X (submissions), for 19 good articles in the second round.
• The list award goes to Muboshgu (submissions), for three featured lists in the final round.
• The topic award goes to Grapple X (submissions), for three good topics (with around 40 articles) in round 4.
• The did you know award goes to Cwmhiraeth (submissions), for well over 100 DYKs in the final round.
• The news award goes to ThaddeusB (submissions), for 10 in the news items in round 3.
• The picture award goes to Grandiose (submissions), for two featured pictures in round 2.
• The reviewer award goes to both Ruby2010 (submissions) (14 reviews in round 1) and Grandiose (submissions) (14 reviews in round 3).
• Finally, for achieving an incredible bonus point total in the final round, and for bringing the top-importance article frog to featured status, a biostar has been awarded to Cwmhiraeth (submissions).

Awards will be handed out in the coming days; please bear with us! This year's competition also saw fantastic contributions in all rounds, from newer Wikipedians contributing their first good or featured articles, right up to highly experienced Wikipedians chasing high scores and contributing to topics outside of their usual comfort zones. It would be impossible to name all of the participants who have achieved things to be proud of, but well done to all of you, and thanks! Wikipedia has certainly benefited from the work of this year's WikiCup participants.

Next year's WikiCup will begin in January. Currently, discussions and polls are open, and all contributions are welcome. You can also sign up for next year's competition. There will be no further newsletters this year, although brief notes may be sent out in December to remind everyone about the upcoming competition. Well, you beat me to the punch in creating the article about Andy Barr, but I took the time to do a lot of expanding based on newspaper archives I have access to through Newsbank. I noticed you already nominated the article for DYK. Ordinarily, my five-fold expansion would qualify for DYK, but it won't be DYK eligible a second time. It may end up being too much detail, especially if he goes on to have a long legislative career, but for now, it was easy enough to compile that from a couple of hundred articles in the Lexington Herald-Leader. I was going to ask you the same thing about hooks. The only thing I could think of was "...that Kentucky Representative-elect Andy Barr began working with a child abuse prevention agency after writing a speech on that subject for then-Governor Ernie Fletcher?" Not sure how interesting that is to other people, but it's the kind of thing you don't really think about happening, I guess. What you've got is also good; how many folks can say they worked for three Congressmen by the time they were 30? I thought about going for GA with this, but as bad as this sounds, I usually like to shepherd articles about dead people so I don't have to update them later!
