Rollback

I see that you have been fighting lots of vandalism recently. Thank you for that. Would you like to have rollback to help you revert obvious vandalism faster? Widr (talk) 12:13, 1 June 2018 (UTC)

@Widr:, that sounds like it would be very beneficial and would allow for a quicker turn around of cleaning articles. Mr X ☎️ 12:16, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
Done (official template below).

Hi Mr Xaero. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Widr (talk) 12:19, 1 June 2018 (UTC)

File:Edward Rummel.jpg

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:12, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

Punched Card

By way of introduction ... I'm about 80 years old and am one of those people who actually worked with punched card machines (and NOT just as computer input). Got started with Wikipedia about 2006, there was a lot to do - both in articles and in structure (categories). About 2011 I settled down to punched cards. The current organization of Punched Card and Keypunch was my 1st task - and has held up.

The current problem is quite simple. The first sentence of Punched Card is:

"A punched card or punch card is a piece of stiff paper that can be used to contain digital data represented by the presence or absence of holes in predefined positions."

"Digital data" can be referenced any number of ways: by count, by name... What's in the 3rd column, what's in the "paid field", etc.

When a card or tape is continuously moving through a punch and is punched when a musician plays a note it is analog data, not digital data and can only be referenced by the punched hole. A copy can be made only by use of the original card.

Knowing what was digitally punched I can make a copy WITHOUT having the original. Analog and digital data are very different.

The article is about digital data - the first sentence states that; analog data has no place in the article. (and the 1st sentence is explicit - digital). Can you help - or do we just abandon the topic?

Hi, my name's Tony and I'm an administrator on this wiki. I noticed you've recently started editing again, which is great, but I also noticed that your signature matches the username of a longstanding active user, MrX, to the point where I wasn't sure if it was him or a new user. I think it'd be better if you chose a signature that would avoid that confusion   TonyBallioni (talk) 04:26, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Survivor - DvG.jpeg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. First off, the 'criticism' section you put under my name reflects a silly story from more than five years ago that those involved in it would disavow or forget (e.g. Michael Weiss, JM Berger). @Rosalinastarbits: First off, welcome to Wikipedia! Sorry that your first experience editing is not the best and your edits have been removed or reverted. Within your edits, there there issues with the tone of the edits along with removal of cited information. Based on those actions, other editors such as myself worked to clean these edits to keep the article with a neutral point of view (see WP:NPOV). We also try to keep the articles factual and provide references or citations for edits. The edit which you made adding a "alumni" was removed as there were not enough references to support the notability of the "alumni" (see WP:NOTE). Excuse me

I was curious why my proposal to delete The Story Keepers article was reverted. The topic struck me as very non-notable, and the “citations” are not references to actual sources, just references to the work itself. Did you find notable sources for this topic? Thanks, 98.127.4.44 (talk) 20:50, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

@98.127.4.44: Here is the network that airs the content, Hope Channel. I would classify this as being notable. — Mr Xaero ☎️ 20:57, 6 March 2020 (UTC)
It may well be notable, but currently there are no reliable secondary sources to demonstrate this. Jonathan A Jones (talk) 09:45, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

COVID-19 in Illinois (map and more)

Hi, Xaero. Thanks for making the map File:COVID-19 in Illinois as of March 14 2020.png. I left a comment on the File Talk page as well. It's missing McHenry County, cases have been identified (It's at 2, I think). I don't have access to image editing software or I'd do it myself. Also, seeing how the date is in the filename, are you planning to create a new file each time you update, rather than upload new versions of the one file? Just curious. Thanks again, Fishal (talk) 17:16, 15 March 2020 (UTC)

@Fishal: I have uploaded a new version that has that information contained within it. — Mr Xaero ☎️ 18:42, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
Thanks! I think we'll both be spending a lot of time on that page during these weeks of quarantine. Fishal (talk) 19:22, 15 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi Mr X, and thanks for reformatting and adding to the day-by-day stats table I created. I teach wikipedia to future librarians and will use our two edits as a case study to encourage them! Katewill (talk) 18:12, 18 March 2020 (UTC)

Illinois COVID Cases

Xaero, in regards to 2020_coronavirus_pandemic_in_Illinois, I am removing the "active cases" and "recovered" because state of Illinois is not updating those numbers. If you check our the IL Health Dept web site, they are only siting 3 numbers: "Total Cases, Deaths and Number of Tests Done". Hope you understand that. And the 2 recovered cases is from February 2 and not accurate anymore, if you click on the link. Again Illinois is not releasing those figures anymore. User:THEunique User talk:THEunique

@THEunique: As per IDPH not reporting any further amounts of recovered individuals, that is correct. However an official release of information is still published on the IDPH website which lists those two individuals as being recovered which I will quote below.
“Our two Illinois residents with confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 have recovered from their illnesses and there has been no further spread of the virus from these two cases,” said IDPH Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike. “The risk to the general public remains low and we are continuing to use every tool at our disposal to keep our community safe.”[1]
This is clearly referenced material that shows confirmed recovered patients. Please stop removing this information from the article. — Mr Xaero ☎️ 16:35, 11 April 2020 (UTC)

Template collapse on Indiana COVID Cases

Thanks for starting the work on adding collapsing sections to Template:2019–20_coronavirus_pandemic_data/United_States/Indiana_medical_cases_chart! I was going to sit down this weekend and try to add that. Now, I have a good place to start and maybe all that's left is soring out the bug in the "Last 15 days" behavior. 3Todd (talk) 15:26, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

3Todd, what issue are you seeing with the "last 15 days" feature? I just looked and it is showing the last 15 like it should be. — Mr Xaero ☎️ 20:05, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
Mr Xaero, it's the same issue that all the medical cases chart template instances seem to have...turning on April and "last 15 days" shows the weird, disjoint set 04/01–04/16 and 05/01 instead of the expected 04/01–05/01. 3Todd (talk) 20:45, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
Mr Xaero, I was just going to write the same question over on the Talk page for theVermont medical cases chart. Something strange is going on:
  • If you choose "Last 15" and "May", you only see bars until the end of April.
  • If you choose "Last 15" and "April" and "May", you see data from April 1 through April 18.
  • If you choose "Last 15" and "April" (but NOT May), you see all of April AND May.
Unfortunately I don't know enough of the Wikipedia template syntax to be able to figure out how to help diagnose what is going on. - Dyork (talk) 23:47, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
3Todd and Dyork, I do not maintain the template that those two templates use to display the data. You might want to pose those questions and concerns over at Medical cases chart talk page. — Mr Xaero ☎️ 00:09, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
Mr Xaero - Thank you for the pointer, and thank you 3Todd for raising it over there. I will comment in that discussion. - Dyork (talk) 13:53, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

New York Table

In one of your edits to the New York Coronavirus article, you said "all data that is in the table is included in the template." This is not true. NYS Department of Health counts cases quite differently from counties in many cases: it has case counts for some counties higher than those counties' own health departments, and lower than other counties' departments. Additionally, the template counts deaths by the county in which the person died, while the table counts deaths by county of residence (for example, no residents of Tompkins county died, although two patients brought to hospitals there did die). NYS also publishes no recovery data, so the the template's recovery numbers come from sources that disagree with the NYS case/death numbers the template takes as true. These are all problems with the template; on its own it's fine, but the NYS numbers often vary significantly and track days behind the information counties provide. These problems need to be resolved before the template can be used on the New York Coronavirus article. TheNavigatrr (talk) 03:40, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

This conversation has been moved to the COVID-19 pandemic in New York (state) talk page and should be discussed there. — Mr Xaero ☎️ 16:58, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
