Contested deletions
Hi. I noticed that you contested User:Mikhailov_Kusserow's speedy deletions of Talk:List of Jehovah's Witnesses publications/Archive 1, Talk:List of Jehovah's Witnesses publications/Archive 2 and Talk:List of Jehovah's Witnesses publications/Archive 3. Please note that these three pages are orphaned Talk pages of an article that was renamed List of Watch Tower Society publications. The correct archives are already located at the archive pages associated with Talk:List of Watch Tower Society publications, and the three archives under the old name are orphaned and superfluous. They should be speedy-deleted per the original request.--Jeffro77 (talk) 08:31, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
- Specifically, these come under criteria G8 for speedy deletion.--Jeffro77 (talk) 08:39, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
- "No longer needed" is not a valid CSD rationale, especially when I have no clue "that these three pages are orphaned Talk pages of an article that was renamed List of Watch Tower Society publications." Feel free to retag them under G6 or G8. —mono 01:02, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed you contested User:babyox4420's article titled Talk:Storm Team 2 Weather App, which was added to the main WGRZ page in July 2010. I have to question the reasons where you believe the information was not from reliable sources. Sorry if I sound a little blunt, but would you not consider the actual tv station WGRZ and their website wgrz.com a reliable source?
I have included additional links to help show multiple reliable sources: WGRZ announces the Storm Team 2 Weather App: [1] (includes promotional video) WGRZ Storm Team 2 App on iTunes: [2] WSI Corporation (creator of Storm Team 2 App): [3] Gannett Corporation selects WSI as HD weather provider (WGRZ's parent company): [4]
I hope this clarifies any confusion there may have been with the article. Overall, the Storm Team 2 Weather App is an extension of the Storm Team 2 brand that WGRZ uses for its weather forecasts, and if deleted, would detract from the quality of the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Babyox4420 (talk • contribs) 22:32, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
- Maybe mono questioned their notablility, not just their sourcing. Airplaneman ✈ 22:58, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
- I am not questioning that it exists. I have nominated the article for deletion, because it is not notable (it has not recieved significant coverage in reliable sources). Wikipedia covers notable topics—those that have been "noticed" to a significant degree by reliable sources. A topic is deemed appropriate for inclusion if it complies with WP:NOT and has received significant coverage in reliable secondary sources. —mono 00:08, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
In this case if additional sourcing can't be found, would you propose making it part of the main article itself? The only concern some may have in this case is that some would suggest splitting it. I did want to ask what would you define as "reliable sources?" Third party site such as a mobile apps site? Google news? There can be some gray area there based on the link you listed with reliable sources. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Babyox4420 (talk • contribs) 00:18, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
- To be frank, the one-sentence mention in WGRZ is already more than enough, and I can't see any split proposal passing any time in the near future, in which case the article may be recreated. As of now, the app is not notable on its own. See my comments in the AfD. It would be advisable to fix up the article on the TV station itself, as well. Airplaneman ✈ 00:36, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

- Ah, OK. See the decline rationale. Also, my edit summary specifically stated "moved Magic Trackpad to Apple Magic Trackpad: looks like the current trend; see Apple Magic Mouse, for example". Next time, please leave rationale or even ask me. I might even have g7ed it myself. So yea, take a look at WP:RM, and consider adding "Apple Magic Mouse" and "Apple Wireless Keyboard" to the mix. So yea, the main point is that g6 tags should ideally contain an explanation. Airplaneman ✈ 00:51, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

Sandbox header
{{User:ClueBot III/ArchiveNow}} Sorry, I never even noticed that (which is weird, because scrolling through its edit history showed that it was there for some time, at least when I last visited it). But why is that header there? What's the difference if users are constantly changing it and the box is automatically cleaned every 12 hours anyway? Nightscream (talk) 01:51, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
- I don't know. Likely someone thought we ought to have a banner (another one!) and created a warning for it ({{uw-sandbox}}) (why?!?!?)... Every time a user removes the banner (like you did, usually on accident) the bot resets it, so no harm done. Just thought you should know. —mono 01:54, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

External links for Apple product articles
Hi Mono,
Since you are the coordinator for the Apple Inc. Wiki Project Group, I figured I should just communicate with you directly instead of posting messages on 21 Apple related Talk pages.
I was curious if I could enlist the help of either yourself or other editors from the Apple Inc. Wiki Project team. I have a conflict of interest of posting about Apple products since I am employed by iFixit. I want to be able to provide quality content to multiple Apple product articles on Wikipedia, but I would be contributing from a biased point of view.
If you, or another editor from the wiki project team, could please check out my user page, all of the information and reasonings of mine are posted there.
Straife (talk) 00:11, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, iFixit doesn't appear to be reliable (no offense; reliable=peer reviewed and stuff), which leads me to believe that the addition of external links would not benefit the quality of the article (If the link is relevant, helpful and informative, it should be included). As I'm not familiar with the product/service, (maybe it is reliable) I can't exactly determine where these might be appropriate. I know you'll find a good deal of similar sites in external links sections, however, these sites really aren't helpful and shouldn't be there. You mentioned that the site was referenced in WP articles already, and this basically shows that the user who added it had to "crowdsource" from a "knowledge wiki". —mono 00:43, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for the quick response. In terms of reliability (peer review etc*) iFixit is not always 100% accurate in its content, since it is both contributed by community members and employees with both parties providing varying levels of quality consistency. iFixit's content goes through a peer screening process before a guide can actually be viewed by all visitors to the website. However, I only provided a list of iFixit repair manuals that were of a high enough quality to be worth linking to from a Wikipedia article. Since you are not familiar with our content, would you be able to pose my request to the rest of the Apple Wiki Project team? I am sure that someone in the project team has heard of iFixit and would be able to determine if my suggestions are valid.
- I am not attempting to promote any products that iFixit sells (replacement parts and tools). I am merely trying to share the content/knowlede that iFixit provides at no cost. If a Wikipedia editor finds a source that has easier to follow instructions, better quality images, and less paid ads on a website, I would have no qualms with them choosing to not link to iFixit repair manuals. I just feel that it is important for Wikipedia readers to have access to knowledge about how to repair the electronic device they are reading about. I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on this subject.
- Straife (talk) 08:23, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
- OK, I'll bring this to the project discussion page. —mono 19:02, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

Wiki Help-Adoption Program-Need a Mentor
Hello, I am a Wikipedian who has not been making regular contributions to Wikipedia, lately, and would like to return. I was previously involved with Wikipedia's Adoption Program, and was adopted by A Nobody, who has since been permanently banned form Wikipedia.
I have left a message on another Wikipedian's talk page about whether or not the adoption program was still in affect, and asked about getting some guidance help. The Wikipedian was involved in getting A Nobody banned, which I know nothing about. Sadly, the Wikipedian could not find it in his busy schedule to reply to my message.
Could you direct me to the right source?
Thank you,

WikiCup 2010 July newsletter
We are half-way through our penultimate round, and nothing is yet certain. Pool A, currently led by Sasata (submissions) has ended up the more competitive, with three contestants ( Sasata (submissions), Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) and TonyTheTiger (submissions)) scoring over 500 points already. Pool B is led by Casliber (submissions), who has also scored well over 500. The top two from each pool, as well as the next four highest scorers regardless of pool, will make it through to our final eight. As ever, anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.
Planning has begun for the 2011 WikiCup, with open discussions concerning scoring and flags for next year's competition. Contributions to those discussions would be appreciated, especially concerning the flags, as next year's signups cannot begin until the flag issue has been resolved. Signups will hopefully open at some point in this round, with discussion about possible changing in the scoring/process opening some time afterwards.
Earlier this round, we said goodbye to Hunter Kahn (submissions), who has bowed out to spend more time on the book he is authoring with his wife. We wish him all the best. In other news, the start of this round also saw some WikiCup awards sent out by Suomi Finland 2009 (submissions). We appreciate his enthusiasm, and contestants are of course welcome to award each other prizes as they see fit, but rest assured that we will be sending out "official" awards at the end of the competition. If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive Wrap-up
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated in the drive! Over 100 editors—including Jimbo Wales—signed up this time (nearly triple the participants of the May drive). This benefited the Guild as well as the articles in need of copy editing. You can see from the comparison graphs that we increased the number of completed copyedits substantially. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet our goal of completely wiping out 2008 from the queue. We also were not able to reduce the backlog to less than 6,000 articles. We suspect people were busy with real life summertime things, at least in the northern hemisphere! We were able to remove the months of January, February, March, April, and May from the backlog, and we almost wiped out the month of June. We reduced the backlog by 1,289 articles (17%), so all in all it was a very successful drive, and we will be holding another event soon. We'll come up with some new ideas to try to keep things fresh and interesting. Keep up the good work, everybody!

Removing redlinks is NOT vandalism. Kindly revert your edit to the article and remove the warning from my talk page. 69.181.249.92 (talk) 05:10, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
- Unexplained section blanking is vandalism. drippingflame 05:14, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
- 69 explained it in his edit summaries; he was removing red links. Clearly NOT vandalism since the article in question says it is only a list of those with existing biographical articles on wikipedia. Therefore the redlinks are out of place until such time as they have articles of their own. Millahnna (mouse)talk 05:34, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
- If you look at the actual diff ([5]), actual entries were removed, not just the links. By the way, redlinks help Wikipedia grow, (see study) and should only be removed if there is no way that an article might exist. Please take common sense into consideration when applying policy, however, the explanation provided in the edit summaries does not explain the actual reason for removing the entries. drippingflame 16:36, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
- Actually if you look at that very same diff, no real entries were removed. Everything removed was either a red link or borked attempt at an addition (all of which also don't have existing articles). And per the article in question, "The following are prominent Muslim Rajputs with existing biographical articles on Wikipedia." I'm very aware that red links help wiki grow but when they run contrary to the information on the page, I don't see how they are helpful. Different interpretations I suppose; but still, hardly vandalism. Regards and happy editing. Millahnna (mouse)talk 16:55, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
- Is this why you put a talkback on my page? I have nothing to add. Millahnna has very nicely summed up my reasoning, and the fallacy of yours. 69.181.249.92 (talk) 01:55, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Errors In Message Delivery
Hello, this is an automated message to inform you that some errors were encountered while processing your delivery request (WikiProject Apple Inc. August 2010 Newsletter). Please deliver the messages to the following users manually, if you wish, because the bot was not allowed to do so:
- RN - Invalid username.
Delivered by MessageDeliveryBot at 01:53, 6 August 2010 (UTC).
- Hmm... Seems that user was renamed, perhaps the bot should follow the redirect instead of outputting an error message. Might change its behavior. - EdoDodo talk 01:56, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
- Apologies for the bot spam on your talk page, I was doing some testing with your request. - EdoDodo talk 10:53, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
How long does an article have to be to meet the GA criteria? This particular article seems really short, and yet it's a GA nominee. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 23:06, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) An article do not have to be very long for GA as long as "it addresses the main aspects of the topic" ("This requirement is significantly weaker than the "comprehensiveness" required of featured articles; it allows shorter articles, articles that do not cover every major fact or detail, and overviews of large topics."), according to the good article criteria. - EdoDodo talk 23:15, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
Umm...
About this, Mono(mium). Stuff like this makes you (at least the online version of you) and some of your actions seem ornery and/or attention-seeking. I would go as far to say that this is one of the main reasons you don't always get along well with users here. The least you could do is say something about it on your talk page and/or talk page edit notice (maybe using the template you linked to; that way people will know). I'll post here instead of your editor review to get your attention, as this is something you could improve. Airplaneman ✈ 02:51, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Ⓢock 03:08, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- Of course talkbacks are meant to and can be removed; what I didn't take a liking to was the apparently snarky comments. There's no need for those. Thanks for clarifying. Airplaneman ✈ 03:50, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
Bad reverts and false warnings
Still having trouble using Gloo without falsely accusing others, I see.[6][7] 69.181.249.92 (talk) 02:58, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- Reverted seconds after, then tagged as WP:G7. Revert rationale was "speedy deletion template removed", so I reverted the edit, then realizing that it should be G7ed. A self-revert tool is coming, however, you'll see this with plenty of automatic programs. Ⓢock 03:10, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Re: Speedy deletion contested: List of Online Games for Kids
On my talk page, you said,
Hello Bk314159, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of List of Online Games for Kids, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: list (A3 doesn't apply); try PROD. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. drippingflame 02:33, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- I believed that criterion A3 did apply because the page consisted exclusively of a collection of external links. Although there was no section explicitly titled "External links" (or similar), it did still consist of only external links, and was thus eligible for A3. Bk314159 (talk) 13:16, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- It was a list, which would be a collection of links, therefore, we use common sense and fix it. Some of the external links in the "list" have actual artices. Regards, ʄlame 17:22, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- For the record, the deletion rationale was "A3 *does* apply to lists that consist exclusively of a directory of external links with no linking content." Lists aren't always just collections of links. See, for example, List of Percy Jackson & the Olympians characters. Airplaneman ✈ 19:47, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- Well, yes, however, WP:SOFIXIT... Ⓢock 07:09, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

- I felt, due to the fact that some items on the list of links had articles, that the list had potential. Instead of quickly tagging it, the "tagger" should consider whether the list might actually be worthwhile. Instead of "suggesting" it should be fixed with a CSD tag, why not fix it? Ⓢock 17:39, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, I see :). I don't think a list of online games for kids would be suitable on Wikipedia for a variety of reasons, though. For instance, what is a kid game? What is not? There are thousands of them. A category would be better, IMO. Thanks for clarifying. Airplaneman ✈ 18:37, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

- Use of the <big> tag isn't what matters. The point of the guideline is that the sig should not be abnormally tall or large. I would say Mono's sig is borderline on that issue, but probably OK. However, the guideline also says that sigs should not be "distracting", a criteria I would definitely say is breached by Mono's current sig, but I suppose it is a matter of opinion. CVU Awards
I've done your requests at WP:GL/ILL for the CVU Awards. Let me know if I can modify them in any way to improve them. Connormah 04:01, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
RE:Help
Because i do not know how to undo multiple edits. I tried undoing the only edit that really removed the roster, but it said cannot be done.Candyo32 00:22, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
- You can use a script like Twinkle or apply for rollback at WP:PERM/R if you wish to do it yourself. ℳono 03:42, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
- I have rollback. Candyo32 07:32, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) You can get Twinkle(instructions are there) then - it will add a brown restore this version above diffs which, when clicked, will undo all the edits that follow it, restoring the page to that version. ~ QwerpQwertus Talk ツ 03:17, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

I'd like to nominate you for adminship, but I thought I'd check with you first per WP:RFA/N. —Waterfox (talk) 22:47, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
- I've responded by email. ℳono 22:53, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
- Mono, I would recommend not going for adminship at this time. You have had a lot of issues in the past few months. Maybe in the future, but not now. ~NerdyScienceDude 23:17, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
- If you don't take it personally, it can't hurt, really. You don't have to pass on your first attempt! I'm sure many users will drop by and offer support and/or good advice (others won't…), and most RFA questions are thought-provoking and may teach you something in the process. Either way, I'm indifferent as to wether you run in the near future or later. ;) Airplaneman ✈ 00:10, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

Volcanoes
Is there any chance we could move your WP Volcanoes interview up to September 27 (a couple weeks from now)? You seem to have collected plenty of answers already and nobody else has shown interest in doing an article for the 27th. -Mabeenot (talk) 00:18, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
Mark Heaney
{{Resolved}} Hello, I'm notifying you that a user has request the article Mark Heaney, which you proposed for deletion, to be restored. If you believe the subject still does not meet the notability requirements, please nominate the article at WP:AFD. Thank you. — ξxplicit 17:54, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
{{Resolved}} Not sure that collapsing it by default is the best idea, as that slows down the review process. What exactly was the issue with the noncollapsed version? /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 02:37, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

- Yes, but it's now more difficult for reviewers (and users, when they try to see how to improve their article). Can you make it uncollapsed by default? /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 02:45, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
