Word on the street edit

I noticed in the GA review process talk page, under possible changes, that your username came up as one of the people inadvertently leading to this change in GA strategy. Why aren't they happy with the GAR/GAN/GAC articles you submit which are passed? I thought we had a process to deal with that, should an article pass GA which didn't meet criteria. Just curious. Thegreatdr (talk) 22:06, 23 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

It was the GA competition that was mentioned, although they made another comment concerning people who submit numerous GAs, but review few. I'm as guilty as anyone else when it comes to the latter (for me it's 52 including the two GARs in progress versus 11 reviewed,) because some articles either aren't within the area of my strongest expertise, or I know can be better reviewed by others within the project. I tend to take in the orphans which have been on the list for 3 weeks or so. While I can be picky during reviews, I'd rather review the articles which are clearly passable or clearly unpassable. No muss, no fuss. Thegreatdr (talk) 01:59, 24 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

And another thing: my interests. They include tropical cyclones, as well as something that is related to Wikipedia policy; the banning of users. I hope to get a couple disambiguation pages for tropical cyclones in today (they'll be my first articles since the Timeline of the 2001 Atlantic hurricane season; my first decent article, but then again, you've come up with hundreds  ). Also, I got your reply while typing up this addendum; sorry, can't help you with roads at the moment. :-( Maybe I could help copyedit, but I need to wait until I have sufficient prose skills. Before I get back to serious work for the first time in a month, I have one thing to ask you; how come you have always included the number "32" in your signature? Ongoing featured portal drive for Portal:Finger Lakes edit

Hey, I've been doing some work for the featured portal drive for Portal:Finger Lakes. We could use some more DYKs, so I have been compiling a list of redlinked articles from various Finger Lake related articles, and listing them at Portal:Finger Lakes/Things you can do. I will probably do some research and write a few new articles on some of those, so if you plan to create some of them as well that would help out a bit, do you think you would be interested in writing new articles and getting them to T:DYK for any of those redlinks? Cirt (talk) 16:01, 29 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Update: Created Tadodaho and submitted it to T:TDYK for consideration, if that successfully makes it to T:DYK then we'd have 8 more DYK hooks to go to flesh out Portal:Finger Lakes/DYK. (Additional possibilities for new articles at Portal:Finger Lakes/Things you can do.) Happy New Year! Cirt (talk) 14:15, 2 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Interstate 84 in New York edit

I don't know if you noticed or not, but I recently created this article (the first state-segment one on the eastern I-84), and it could use the things you usually give it (I found a great DYK nom fact, and you and (maybe) Julian can get co-credit for it if you want). That would be some references for the road description and the beginnings of a history (I'd like to move some NY-specific stuff out of the main article, which would help clean it up). Port of Albany-Rensselaer edit

I am confused as to your addition to the Port of Albany-Rensselaer. You added a cleanup template to the references and made the mention that the references were missing alot of things? This doesnt make sense. The reviewer in the GA nomination (which the article just passed) was the one that fixed up the references before passing it. I dont understand what you want added/cleaned up. If you are going to be critical and claim an article needs help then it would be helpful to let people know (on the talk page perhaps?) what needs to be done. I want the article to be the best it can be, but without knowing what needs to be done I cant do that.Camelbinky (talk) 19:33, 17 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Are you kidding me? It JUST got passed as a GA within the last 48 hours probably and you are already saying it DOESNT meet the standards anymore? I have looked up Wikipedia: Citing sources and dont see where information is missing. The cite web references ONLY need url, author/publisher, date, and title. Everything else is optional for cite web. The cite book references have the author, page, title, and isbn number. Please be specific about what you believe is lacking. Your message to me gave me nothing about what you believe needs to be fixed. If I dont hear anything specific the cleanup template will be removed. This is a GA article, NOT a FA article. The standards are less and the article wouldnt have passed GA status the way it is if it didnt meet it.Camelbinky (talk) 19:33, 17 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
No big deal. I just went ahead and added the access dates, although a handful might still need them. Gary King (talk) 19:55, 17 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
I already thanked Gary for his hard work but I am still confused and need a bit of clarification. Perhaps when you are not in a "foul mood". The cite web sources DID have access dates, they were just in a form that does not show up in the references section, you can only see them in edit mode. Which I believe is just fine according to the MOS. If I am wrong please let me know. I believe the problem you have could possibly be that you are going on the information on the article page itself and you have not checked the citations in edit mode. I once had someone try and delete an article because they claimed it had sat there for over a year without any improvements because they did not look clearly at the history and see that it had been a redirect up until a few weeks before being turned into an article, and then after putting it up for deletion refused any further explanation. (the article was voted in favor of keep after 4 days, 4-0) I am just using that as an example of how, sometimes, a little research under the surface and a little explanation and elaboration can help a long way to understanding. I am sorry I was snippy, GA review was tough and my first time sending an article through it. I took offence at your tone, as you did to mine. I sincerly apologize. As I first stated in my initial response- I just needed to know specifics so the issue could be rectified. A very generic template and vague responses help no one or the article. I had no issue with your comments in general, just wanted to get it fixed as soon as possible.Camelbinky (talk) 21:33, 17 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of County Route 97 (Rockland County, New York) edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article County Route 97 (Rockland County, New York), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

This article does not meet the guidelines of Wikipedia:Notability (highways).

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Hello. I am posting this here just to make sure you see it, as I don't know if you are planning on visiting the WQA page again any time soon. The same text below is posted there. I would just suggest you try your best to avoid violating any of the wikipedia policies that you can, and if that is not possible, maybe you would benefit from taking a wikibreak or cutting back you time on Wikipedia so you are able to moderate your responses to other editors. Quoted text below:

We value useful contributions by anyone, regardless of who they are in real life. However, for contributions to be useful they also have to follow all of the guidelines and policies, especially the civility guidelines and guidelines against personal attacks. You need to be able to deal in a civil manner with other editors on Wikipedia. Your personal issues are, as you say, personal and none of anyone's business. However, saying "its who I am in real life" and "its not something I can solve" does not give you a free pass; you still have to follow the rules of Wikipedia or eventually an admin will block you. I suggest, if you have to type something like that in the future, you type it and then walk away without saving, or type it out in a notebook application or some such, and not post anything on Wikipedia until you are calm enough to remove any uncivil or attacking comments. However you want to do it, I strongly suggest you do NOT make similar comments in the future as per the above cited Wikipedia guidelines.

End quote. Thanks for your time and good luck The Seeker 4 Talk 19:19, 27 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
