Thanks for spam deletion at RSS (file format)

I'm glad you caught this one [1]. I traced back to see who had left it, but got into a maze of twisty little edits. Also it's confusing as to what is and is not legit on that page. EdJohnston 04:32, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Your bot removed non-vandal material

Just a heads up, the edits made by 66.159.194.193 was not in fact vandalism on the Dave, Shelly, and Chainsaw article, and I have reverted it back to its previous state. Just to let you know. Raderick 11:55, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Sorry about that, and it wasn't a bot that did that by the way, just me not thinking straight it seems. Oh well, all fixed now, so no harm done. Thanks for telling me as well, cheers! Michael Billington (talkcontribs) 12:07, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

About edit counter

Hello, seems that this tool should be fixed to convert spaces to "_" before searching DB: compare

http://www.cohepso.com/mike/edit/?name=Edward_Chernenko&wiki=en.wikipedia&count=count

and

http://www.cohepso.com/mike/edit/?name=Edward+Chernenko&wiki=en.wikipedia&count=count

results, second one not works. Thank you. Edward Chernenko 12:10, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Ok, thanks for telling me :) I'll fix it up this afternoon, should be simple enough. Michael Billington (talkcontribs) 01:40, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
Done, it now shows the same result for both those links. Again, thanks for telling me about the bug, your help is greatly appreciated :-) Michael Billington (talkcontribs) 08:00, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

MWT

I saw you doing some RCP with MWT.. can you are you allowed to use that at school.. Also.. saw some more vandalism almost around the same time from my favourite AbRep :P — Deon555talkReview 02:33, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Short answer: No, Long answer: There was a substitute teacher and I just had to do some reverting :) Longer answer: There was a substitute teacher in both the English class and the IT class, so I did some swapping, I usually only have IT on Wednesday and Friday (And I use Wikipedia on both those days - most of my edits yesterday are from school even) Also... wow... 35,000+ hours in blocks is a long time, glad I have an account, or I would, In all likeliness, be completely f***d :D Michael Billington (talkcontribs) 07:00, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
Lol! excellent way to put it :P I'm slowly working through those AbRep's i'm only done like 3 so far.. hard work :|.. It's gonna be fun getting the reply from the CEO :P — Deon555talkReview 23:39, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Hello Mike! Thank you for supporting me during my recently concluded RfA, which succeeded with a final tally of 77/2/0. I hope I live up to the confidence you have shown. A very Californian RfA thanks from Luna Santin

Thanks for your support in my not-so-recent RfA, which succeeded with a final tally of (97/4/4)! I've never been able to accept compliments gracefully, and the heavy support from this outstanding community left me at a complete loss for words -- so, a very belated thank you for all of your kind words.

I have done and will continue to do the utmost to serve the community in this new capacity, wherever it may take me, and to set an example others might wish to follow in. With a little luck and a lot of advice, this may be enough. Maybe someday the enwiki admins of the future will look back and say, "Yeah, that guy was an admin." Hopefully then they don't start talking about the explosive ArbComm case I got tied into and oh what a drama that was, but we'll see, won't we?

Surely some of you have seen me in action by now; with that in mind, I openly invite and welcome any feedback here or here -- help me become the best editor and sysop I can be.

Again, thank you. –Luna Santin

Orphaned fair use image (Image:2006 census Australia.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:2006 census Australia.png. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Kavadi carrier 23:41, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

A far higher quality image was uploaded to take its place in the Census in Australia article, so this one is redundant, see Image:2006 Australian Census front.png, thanks. Michael Billington (talkcontribs) 06:25, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Help wanted

Hello Michael

Thanks for offering to help me.

I have attempted to create a biographical article about myself as a writer, which has been deleted (almost immediately) as "non-notable". One reason given is that a Google of my name produces only 169 hits. How many Google hits would one one need to have a bio article about onself in the encylopedia section of Wikipedia?

I will meantime out my bio on my User page (I am new to Wikipedia so I'm a dumb newbie) but I believe I should be able to have a short entry. I have published magazine and books (verifiable), I am cited in encylopedias (print) etc.

Any advice you can give would be appreciated. Thankuou. Leigh Blackmore

The reason it was deleted was not just an issue of encyclopaedic notability, but also one of writing about yourself, which is discouraged on WIkipedia, due to the problems it causes with maintaining a neutral point of view. If you are notable, then sooner or later somebody will write an article about you. I hope this answers your question. Michael Billington (talkcontribs) 03:25, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Vandals

Hey Michael, I didn't bring this up during your RfA because you created the page in May and haven't edited it since, but I consider this page really inappropriate and I would strongly urge you to db-author it and keep it on your hard drive or somewhere off-Wiki. Aside from defamation issues, it's really not appropriate to be listing out the real life names of minors you think are vandals along with information that narrows their location down to a particular school. As you can see, Googling their names pulls up your page [2]. I hope you don't mind me bringing this up but I feel quite strongly that this page needs to go off-wiki. Cheers, Sarah Ewart (Talk) 11:16, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Hm, I thought I had that deleted months ago, oh well, tagged now, so should be gone shortly. Michael Billington (talkcontribs) 11:21, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks Michael, I appreciate that. I went ahead and deleted it. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 11:37, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

My friend has prepared really nice illustration of the recipe which is great for public knowledge, that is why I would like to put it as an external link. It is not a spam. The current entry at wikipedia is insufficient and incomplete and it doesn't even covers the range of pakora which are possible. I am relatively new to wikipedia, do you have any guideline on including useful external links. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.250.155.196 (talk) 09:11, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

cool deal

michael, your counter is great. how about letting us query other languages too? thanks! Aaronbrick 01:51, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Ccurrently, just by changing the language code in the address bar you can count the number of edits for a user on any MediaWiki that resides in a .org domain. The by-namespace breakdown of edits however only works if the namespaces are either not yet localised or the names are hard coded into it (which I am currently working on) Is there any specific wiki you'd like me to get to first?, the whole lot may take me several weeks (unless of cource I automate it, which I probably will) Michael Billington (talkcontribs) 08:10, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Regarding block of 208.108.91.156 (talk · contribs · WHOIS)

I noticed you recently indefinitely blocked an IP address indefinitely after only one prior block. This is generally not a good thing, my understanding is that blocks go: a few hours, a few days, a week, a month, a few months, a year, and then indefinite. Note this is different to user accounts, which can be blocked indefinitely after only a few edits, or before any at all. Is there any particular reason for the block to be of this length, or should a one month block be enough to suffice in this instance? Michael Billington (talkcontribs) 09:03, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Feel free to shorten the block, but then would you be the one who keeps an eye out when it expires? Some of this was pretty nasty vandalism. - Jmabel | Talk 19:25, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
