Please make sure changes are backed up with sources

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, but when you add or change content, as you did to the article Brad Miller (basketball), please cite a reliable source for your addition. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. See Wikipedia:Citing sources for how to cite sources, and the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. —C.Fred (talk) 17:37, 27 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Again, make sure your changes are backed up. I reverted your changes to the Hawks template because no numbers are confirmed. Please also check the page's history so you can see why your edits were initially reverted. TheStickMan[✆Talk] 21:56, 9 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Elias Harris

edit

In regards to Elias Harris and the Los Angeles Lakers, the signing is NOT official. He has agreed to sign according to reports. Nothing is official yet, just wait. When it is featured on the Lakers official website, then we can update it on wikipedia. Cheers. DaHuzyBru (talk) 05:46, 30 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

When it is listed here, it is official. DaHuzyBru (talk) 05:48, 30 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Josh Akognon

edit

The guy's signing has not been announced on the team website, and he has not been added to the team roster. Many players get signed for training camp, but the team hasn't made any effort to show him as part of the team (and they just added Fab Melo to their roster, so it is up to date). That's why - his signing has not been announced nor is he on the roster = not officially on the team as of 8/19/2013. Here is one view on the situation (link here), which illustrates that Akognon is not a guaranteed contract nor currently on roster. Rikster2 (talk) 18:22, 19 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

He was picked up off waivers and signed to a non-guaranteed contract by the Grizzlies. That contract gets him a training camp invite and a chance to make the final roster (which actually looks unlikely with the Fab Melo deal). That doesn't mean he is on the team, it just means he gets to compete for a spot. If he earns a spot in training camp, the Grizlies will add him to the 2013-14 roster. Rikster2 (talk) 20:48, 19 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

To Miamiheat631: Just be patient. At this point, there has been no official statement about Akognon from the Grizzlies. Eventually, the facts will be clarified, but right now, his status is up in the air. Note that ESPN doesn't list him in their roster [1], nor does Yahoo [2].   Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button (  or  ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Jersey numbers

edit

There's no guarantee those roster templates have the numbers correct. We need something independent of Wikipedia. Zagalejo^^^ 00:16, 20 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Random people edit the roster templates. Doesn't make them right. People add numbers wrong all the time. Don't add numbers just because they are on the roster templates. DaHuzyBru (talk) 03:21, 20 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Lamont Jones

edit

The source you posted was from June 28. He originally "signed" to play on the Celtics' summer league team. He actually ended up playing for the Blazers' team instead (back in July). He is not under contract with any team right now. Rikster2 (talk) 01:54, 23 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

"Reportedly" & " not on roster"

edit

Cut it out. List him when/if the team ever announces anything or gets added to the roster. I don't care that you don't care at this point. You are just being disruptive on purpose now. Rikster2 (talk) 00:10, 25 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

One more time and I am filing a report at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. Several editors have tried to work with you on this type of thing and jersey numbers. Rikster2 (talk) 00:14, 25 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Diante Garrett

edit

Look, the trade was reported [3]. If was not made official; neither the Raptors nor the Jazz announced anything. Don't you think if it were a done deal they would have announced it? Second, the Haywood-Gee trade was also reported on draft day, but was also never made official and now won't be done until after July 10. Also with Pierre Jackson, his rights were traded to the 76ers but he hasn't signed with them yet. Just wait, after the summer league, he will most likely signed with them then. DaHuzyBru (talk) 13:55, 9 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

No, that's the point! The Novak-Garrett trade is not official and has not been done yet. That's the whole point: until the trade has been made official, Garrett is still a Jazz and Novak is still a Raptor. You don't add it before time, it may not even happen on July 10. No one knows. Quote from [4] "In a move to create salary cap space, the Toronto Raptors have reached an agreement to send Steve Novak to the Utah Jazz, league sources told Yahoo Sports." Reached and agreement! It is not done, the trade has not happened, that's what I need you to understand. DaHuzyBru (talk) 14:07, 9 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
Because it hasn't happened?? The roster templates on Wikipedia are edited by random people and are in no way official or trustworthy. If you see players added to the roster who shouldn't be, take them off. If you look here and here, Garrett is still a Jazz and Novak is still Raptor, simple as that! DaHuzyBru (talk) 14:16, 9 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
For example, when Danny Granger was reported yesterday to have agreed to sign with the Heat, the general public naturally don't understand the difference between agreed and actually signed, so they will add Granger to the roster. DaHuzyBru (talk) 14:19, 9 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

I understand your logic with the head start thing, but it's incorrect. When you add Jazz to Novak's infobox, it's wrong. He's not on the Jazz until.. he's on the Jazz i.e. when the trade is officially done. It's deceiving to readers and it's up to us to be the correct ones who revert back to old versions. This time of the year is the toughest because with every little snippet of signing possibility or trade rumour, IPs and people who don't quite understand the July moratorium period will update prematurely. DaHuzyBru (talk) 14:26, 9 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

And no, that's the entire point I'm trying to make to you: Granger is NOT a Miami Heat player. He is a free agent until he puts pen-to-paper. It's really not that difficult to understand. DaHuzyBru (talk) 14:26, 9 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
Listen, I'm not wrong, but also, I'm just trying to level with you. Agreed is different to signed. And with the moratorium period, that's for the NBA to deal with money, salaries, salary caps etc. It's just a 10 day wait, from July 10, everything happens. On July 10 itself, most of these "agreed" players with sign, re-sign etc. I'm not the bad guy/enemy here. I'm trying to help you. I've been doing this now for three years, and every year it's the same thing I've had to try and explain. DaHuzyBru (talk) 14:38, 9 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Pierre Jackson

edit

I know we've had this conversation before. Jackson has not signed with the Sixers and now that he is possibly out for the year, it is likely he won't. The Sixers merely hold his rights. Rikster2 (talk) 14:16, 15 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Don't you find it weird that Embiid, Grant, McDaniels and McRae (the other 4 guys at the PC) are all on the OFFICIAL Sixers roster, while Jackson is not? He isn't signed and with his injury it is very much in question as to if he ever will. Yes, he says he's on the Sixers - and it he WAS on their Summer League team - but he is not the official source. You gotta sign a deal to be on the team. Adding this is a violation of WP:CRYSTAL. Rikster2 (talk) 14:31, 15 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
No, Jackson announcing something (which was not that he had signed with the Sixers btw) is not official. ESPN is not official. The Philadelphia 76ers is official and they have announced no deal. Dario Šarić was also at the PC and he won't be a 76er for 2 years or more. Rikster2 (talk) 14:46, 15 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Pierre Jackson. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware, Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made; that is to say, editors are not automatically "entitled" to three reverts.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.Bagumba (talk) 19:42, 15 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you add unsourced material to Wikipedia, as you did at LeBron James‎‎. —Bagumba (talk) 20:06, 15 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

First of all, I did not engage in an edit war, I have given the user multiple reliable sources, and he still believes he is right. He reverted multiple times. Second of all, I'm sorry I didn't give a source for the LeBron James page, but how would I give a source for a number because I don't want to put the little number annotation right next to it. (I am very unfamiliar with editing Wikipedia if you couldn't already tell.) So very sorry about that. But I don't think I need to be blocked from editing for doing either, as I am providing correct information. miamiheat631 talk 15, July 2014 15:51 (UTC)

I trust you are trying to improve Wikipedia. However, edit warring policy specifically states: "Note that an editor who repeatedly restores his or her preferred version is edit warring, whether or not the edits were justifiable: it is no defense to say "but my edits were right, so it wasn't edit warring". Again, you are advised to seek dispute resolution instead, and I invited you (above) to a discussion regarding Jackson at WikiProject NBA.—Bagumba (talk) 21:05, 15 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
Regarding James' number, a url to the reliable source in the edit summary might be an acceptable alternative to citing it directly in the article. You can also refer to Help:Referencing for beginners. Thanks.—Bagumba (talk) 21:05, 15 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

First of all, thanks, I didn't see the dispute resolution link above, sorry about that. I'll give it a try. And second of all, thanks for the advice for the number. miamiheat631 talk 15, July 2014 15:51 (UTC)

No problem. Thanks for discussing this.—Bagumba (talk) 21:15, 15 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

You are signing your posts, but the timestamps are not accurate, presumably because you are manually entering them. Thanks.Bagumba (talk) 22:16, 25 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I am manually entering them. Am I not supposed to? What am I doing wrong? Sorry. miamiheat631 talk 25, July 2014 7:24 (UTC)

No prob. Follow the instructions above i.e. either enter ~~~~ or use the text editor button shown. It make life easier for you and everyone else.—Bagumba (talk) 00:44, 26 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
Can I assist with any problems you may still be having with inserting your signature? I note that your recent edit was signed with timestamp 08:53, 1 August 2014 (UTC), but Wikipedia logs your edit at 13:54.—Bagumba (talk) 20:42, 1 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Sure, the whole time thing kind of confuses me. Like, my computer says 8:53 but someone who edited before was 11:47. I don't really understand. miamiheat631 talk 25, July 2014 (UTC)

The automatic timestamps that come when you type the 4 tildes, i.e. ~~~~, does not come from your computer. The times are generated by Wikipedia's servers. The problem comes if you type in your own time, which is not synchronized with the automatic times that everyone else uses. Also, the automatic timestamp use UTC timezone, whereas your computer has the time in your local timezone. I recommend you testing out perhaps at Wikipedia:Sandbox. Enter the 4 tildes, save your changes, and you should see the auto generated timestamp. Hope that helps.—Bagumba (talk) 01:51, 2 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
P.S. I'll keep your talk page on my watchlist until this gets resolved, so you don't need to notify me.—Bagumba (talk) 01:53, 2 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

It does help, thanks! I was just confused because I am newer to Wikipedia. One more thing, do I need to type the "miamiheat631 every time too, or does the ~~~~ cover that? Thanks. Miamiheat631 (talk) 01:55, 2 August 2014 (UTC) Never mind, haha. Miamiheat631 (talk) 01:56, 2 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Funny how you won't do anything unless the Pacers roster has it listed... C.J. Miles doesn't have a number on there. Nor does Rodney Stuckey or Shayne Whittington. But I don't see you making a big uproar or editing their pages... hmm. Kcox13 (talk) 17:59, 6 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Teams in infobox

edit

Even though Barbosa was on the Wizards for four months, we still don't list the Wizards in the infobox because he did not appear in a game for them. If we didn't do this then we'd have to list the 76ers in Andrew Bynum's infobox (there was a big discussion over this, see here), and we'd have to list the Kings in Marquis Daniels' and the Atlanta Hawks in Magnum Rolle's (just some examples). We have to draw the line somewhere. DaHuzyBru (talk) 06:58, 14 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
