Article tags

edit

Thanks Dynaflow for your welcome. I would appreciate advice on a matter. I have undertaken an extensive rewrite of Jack Dann to try and present a balanced, neutral article, conforming as best as I am able, with my limited experience, to Wikipedia standards. The article, which was mainly derived from a marketing bio prior to my contributions, previously had been tagged for Autobiography, Neutrality and Advertisement warnings.

While there is more work to be done, better secondary sourcing for example and further development, I am hoping the work so far has elevated the article beyond the tagged issues. Who decides whether this is the case, and who can take these off? While I see how to do it technically, I am unsure of the etiquette here, and wish to do so on the basis of consensus, rather than personal judgement. Should I put up a request on the Discussion page for the article for example (assuming others are watching)? Anyway sure you get the idea of the question here. Appreciate your time on a reply.Mesmacat (talk) 03:41, 30 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Anyone can take the tags down if they think they no longer apply, so you're more then welcome to do so. You may also want to consider joining WikiProject Science Fiction and asking the folks over there for an informal assessment. --Dynaflow babble 17:25, 30 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Regarding flickr images

edit

For this to work, you need to tell the photographer that images on Wikipedia can be freely redistributed and altered. More importantly, the tag that's on the image on flickr says that commercial use is not allowed, which means the image is not free (at least not until the photographer specifically allows it). Get back in touch with the photographer and either ask them to change the license of one particular image you'd like to use or forward their permission together with your original request to the relevant mailing list at WP:OTRS. (Side note: Don't overwrite the old image. It's frustrating for the original photographer to see their work removed, and it might be a good image to use somewhere else or later on. Instead use a file name that indicates you uploaded it or something else that makes it stand out from the original) - Mgm|(talk) 11:14, 2 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Peter V Brett

edit

{{helpme}} "Peter V Brett" I looked over this really carefully before creating the page, but somehow missed the quotes on the title. Could an administrator kindly can put a redirect on it. Will try and be more careful next time —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mesmacat (talkcontribs)

Just use the move tab to change the name to the correct name. A redirect will then automatically be created at the old location. There is nothing that needs an admin to do it, except maybe to delete that redirect that is created. But you can rename (= move) the page yourself and I suggest you try doing it yourself. If you have problems with it, please feel free to ask.

Great edits on the Warded Man page, thanks! --PaulWicks (talk) 16:48, 12 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

John Carter

edit

Wow, thanks very much for the new content. Is it necessary though to place information about the book series in the film's article though? I know Carter isn't as famous as Tarzan but it might be worth placing this well-written info in other articles. Stanton's film is also going to just adapt the first book too, unlike other attempts to film it. Alientraveller (talk) 10:34, 4 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Barsoom articles

Hi, Mesmacat. I replied to your comments here on my talk page. — Lawrence King (talk) 04:32, 25 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I hope this is the appropriate place to thank you for asking for clarification on the "POV" tag on the Barsoom article. I, too, was completely floored by the suggestion that "POV" could even enter into it! FlaviaR (talk) 15:49, 1 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

File:Richard Harland March 2009.jpg

edit

Hello Mesmacat,
I would like to use your photo File:Richard Harland March 2009.jpg in the german wikipedia, but if I transfer it to Commons, a warning is shown, saying the image lacks source information (I suppose a weblink is needed). If you have a weblink to the source of the photo, could you insert it in the description on enWP, if not, could you upload the image on Commons? Thanks, Stefan Bernd (talk) 09:44, 28 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
