Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions edit

We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:

Views/Day
Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
Quality
Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.

The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:

Content
Is more content needed?
Headings
Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
Images
Is the number of illustrative images about right?
Links
Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
Sources
For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly, your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!

Speedy deletion nomination of List of long titles edit

Hello Mercurywoodrose,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged List of long titles for deletion, because it doesn't seem to have any encyclopedic content.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Kebabipita (talk) 19:40, 4 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Polish Coma patients edit

You nominated the above for deletion, but your reason said "merge". CFD is categories for Discussion, not Categories for deletion. Plain deletion will often have the effect of losing useful data for the articles. CFD merger differs from an article merger, in that a redirect is not nercessarily left behind, becasue there are unlikely to be in-coming links. Peterkingiron (talk) 12:34, 22 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use File:Walter Bosse Hedghog ashtrays.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Walter Bosse Hedghog ashtrays.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. LGA talkedits 06:51, 24 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Bill Lockyer article edit

HI,

Some time back, I think over a year, you posted a complaint that accusations against Bill Lockyer made on his Wikipedia page Talk section were not provided with links, and it was character assassination you could remove, but you were leaving them to show how low people could stoop (paraphrasing, fairly I think)

Well, you've got links now.

I hope you can be big enough to go back to the Talk section and apologize, since it would have been very easy for you to get the links yourself -- you didn't have to post them -- just get them before you accuse people of bad faith or flat out lying -- that's all.

I know we are anonymous but still I think you implied I was lying. I was not, and implied the accusations made were untrue =- which I don't know personally but they were reported in the mainstream press. I did not make them up or have any reason to doubt them, any more than any other press report. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.61.137.124 (talk) 11:39, 23 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

I will not apologize for something i didnt do. people making comments on talk pages about living people without any sources to back them up is not thorough editing regardless of whether the information is available or not. "I" dont have links, WP has links. I am under no obligation to find links about a subject to support someone elses ideas about what to add. I also have absolutely no patience with any editor who would use the word "liberal" as an insult here. it shows the kind of sleazy political bias that ruins good encyclopedic writing. I havent checked IP addresses to see who said that, but since the person who wrote it never apologized for their editorializing, and no other editor called them on it, i really dont care to go out of my way to be kind and courteous to anonymous editors to the article. I will simpy refrain from expressing how i really feel about the political editors of a certain strong conservative/republican/libertarian/dembashing bias. seriously, no one wants to hear my "illiberal" opinions on that here. OK, thats enough, im pushing civility, and need to back away from the topic. go easy, and if you cant go easy, go as easy as you can...Mercurywoodrose (talk) 18:47, 23 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Your upset edit

I'm not sure what happened to you here. I had a look but I can't see what was so upsetting. I have reverted stuff you added in the past, but what I do not doubt in the slightest is your good faith. Please bear in mind that Wikipedia administrators are a very mixed bag, some of them thoroughly competent and some of them thoroughly incompetent. If it would help heal you, you should give the links to what was so distressing. Incompetent administrators are at least as serious a problem on Wikipedia as vandals, and uphill as the task is, it is essential for the health of Wikipedia that they be challenged. Best wishes. --Epipelagic (talk) 10:33, 24 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please let us know on SuggestBot's talk page. Regards from Nettrom (talk), SuggestBot's caretaker. -- SuggestBot (talk) 23:42, 25 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
