June 2018 edit

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for advertising or self-promoting in violation of the conflict of interest and notability guidelines.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 00:49, 7 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

Hi Doc James! Can you unblock me? I didn't do it on purpose, honest, I just want to edit some pages, it's wasn't advertisement. And if you can, please, give me some advice about making contributions in wiki without blocking. Thanks)MatthewKNorton (talk) 06:59, 7 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

"It wasn't advertisment"? You do realise administrators can view the content of deleted pages, right? Rarely have I seen a more shameful example of self-promotion on this encyclopedia; we are not a billboard across which you can flaunt your wonderfulness. Yunshui  08:37, 7 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

Yes, I understand that. Firs time I`ve created my page, where I use my materials from my website. When it was deleted, I find out that I just can`t put my web adress on my user page. And I dont want to advert here, on WIKI. I just wanted to make some changes to the articles that I readed, because they didn't have citations, or they were broken and lost. So, can you give me one more chance, plese? Thanks MatthewKNorton (talk) 12:23, 7 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Other than attempt to promote yourself, the only thing you've done so far is add links that don't meet WP:EL guidelines. Links to sites like dental offices in Brooklyn are not references, and Wikipedia is not a directory. OhNoitsJamie Talk 12:53, 7 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

Ok, so what you can tell me about link above: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dentistry_throughout_the_world#Dental_education_in_the_United_States . There is a link, that follow me to the dental website, so why I can't add links that I think is usefull in that article? In that paragraph I made changes and pasted links only from Wikipedia, and anyway my changes was declined. MatthewKNorton (talk) 14:55, 7 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

I am declining your unblock request because it does not address the reason for your block, or because it is inadequate for other reasons. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that

  • the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or
  • the block is no longer necessary because you
    1. understand what you have been blocked for,
    2. will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
    3. will make useful contributions instead.

Please read the guide to appealing blocks for more information. Yamla (talk) 15:02, 7 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for bringing that to our attention; I found more spam that apparently slipped through the cracks. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:16, 7 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • I want to note that Matthew K Norton is an actual person, who has an over-the-top woo-flogging medical practice with a website called "America's Holistic Doctor". See the about page. I rather suspect that this account is WP:CORPNAME and is a paid contractor here to do SEO/marketing for that practice (but also other sorts of spamming, not for Norton). (see for example this classic chatboard spam from last year, likewise here. In addition because the name of the practice is the practitioner's name there are also issues with WP:IMPERSONATE. Besides those username issues there is also likely a WP:PAID violation, if this guess I am hazarding about SEO work is correct. Jytdog (talk) 15:30, 7 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Further along these lines, two of the sites spammed (in [this diff and this diff, each say at the bottom they were designed by an outfit called NY Medical Marketing (some of which also refer to their Yempl team ) -- which has a faked address 2568 E 17th St, NY, NY 11235 (that address is Brooklyn, not Manhattan) and is this unpresuming building in the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood. Jytdog (talk) 15:47, 7 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • CloudInYourHead also spammed a link to brooklyngynplace.com so we apparently have socking as well. Jytdog (talk) 15:48, 7 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
    • that account also spammed medical practice websites that state they are created/SEOed marketed by NY Medical Marketing eg. here. Jytdog (talk) 15:51, 7 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes, see this file uploaded by CloudInYourHead [1] inserted in this edit [2]: "Source http://americasholisticdoctor.com/bone-grafting-techniques/" --BallenaBlanca 🐳 ♂ (Talk) 16:03, 7 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • I am going to open a COIN thread and we can go from there to SPI and the spam blacklist. That's all for here for me. Jytdog (talk) 15:54, 7 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Well, having done a bit of digging I can tell you that this user doesn't come from Brooklyn... far from it, in fact. There are also compelling reasons to suspect a connection to CloudInYourHead, based on some of that user's early edits (the account has been dormant for too long to run a CU). I would advise any reviewing administrator to disregard the claims above that this user is Dr Matthew Norton; unless he's gone halfway around the world for a holiday, they are not. Request reason:

Well, thank you all for helping me to understand the reason for my block. I accept that I made some inappropriate changes on Wiki. "Ignorance of the law is no excuse". But can you help me and tell why these changes [3] was bad and deleted. I used just WIKI and *.edu links to the pages and official websites of the Universities. I thought this also was the reason for my ban. I rly want to make some usefull contributions through the wiki pages. I saw tons of dead links on some bad pages, and wish to change them to appropriate and usefull citations. Thank you all (@Yunshui:@OhNoitsJamie:@Yamla:@Jytdog:@BallenaBlanca:) for your's attention and time you're spend on me. Can someone tell me about my ban duration? Thx) MatthewKNorton (talk) 07:59, 8 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, it's linkspam, and per Yunshui above, I'm betting you are a freelancer who has been around the block a few times. Anyway, you're clearly wasting our time here, so I'm revoking talk page access. You can appeal via WP:UTRS if you so desire. TonyBallioni (talk) 14:25, 8 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Question Can you explain the difference between a reference and links to avoid? OhNoitsJamie Talk 13:31, 8 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
