Grigsby

It seems like she's not quite as "zomg fetish outfits" as I remember her being - she quotes a personal letter to her comparing the outfits with the Onyanko Club, and makes a point of saying that the sailor outfit is a porno staple in Japan (that didn't originate with Sailor Moon). Can I get your thoughts on what's meant by this passage? "In addition, the sophistication of the "media mix" marketing method described by Yoshio Irie, the current editor of Nakayosi that started with editorial meetings nearly a year before publication to determine the basic story, a plan to coordinate the animation to come out after the second episode of the written story, and the marketing of toys has succeeded." She attributes this information to an article by Frederik L. Schodt in the Mainichi Daily News published on the 31st of September, 1994 'NAKAYOSHI'S' MEDIA-MIX TACKLES CUT-THROAT BUSINESS. (Which, of course, I can't find.) Is this meant to mean that Takeuchi and Nakayoshi met regularly in about 1991 to discuss the Dark Kingdom arc's storyline, and that the Sailor Moon anime first season came out after the Black Moon manga arc was done??? That whole section has been rewritten so much that it doesn't match the original source -- at least not in wording. The theology is the same, but not the wording. It seems that the user Taiketsu has been 3RRing episode list pages for their preferred spelling - I left them a note to say that they should check for consensus on talk pages and pointed them to our consensus on the episode titles, but they removed my comment without replying to it, and also removed one of their previous block notices. Sailor Moon categories

I did the updates, and noted something "peculiar": Sailor Moon (anime) and Sailor Moon (manga) are formatted differently from each other and are pretty much uncategorized (compare SM anime page format with the articles Dragon Ball anime and Hellsing TV series, then that SM manga page format with Dragon Ball and Hellsing manga). Which is in the wrong here? Seems Sailor Moon is categorized as the media franchise, anime and manga while the other Sailor Moons are not. Can I fix this or is there a reason? Masamage, I don't agree to some of these edits. First, Japanese television series does appear to be a parent cat of Anime series, but I believe its purpose is to list all anime which broadcast on Japanese television (the category probably needs a description), while Anime series lists worldwide anime (ie, not only created in Japan but includes Chinese, Korean and others like American-made anime). Regarding the genre box, I intentionally formatted it that way and I explained so why on Talk:Sailor Moon. Understood? Let's see:

1) About the category, I agree with Masamage. Anime series is not only for tv series, but also for OVA series, specials, and any other animated Japanese format. Since Sailor Moon is an article about the whole franchise, which not only includes tv series, but also specials, movies, etc, this cat fits better than Japanese television series. And yeah, I also think it's redundant; IMO Japanese television series should be used on articles about Japanse live-action tv series.

2) About Sailor Moon (anime) and Sailor Moon (manga) - It seems these articles are formatted with the tv and comic infoboxes, instead of the anime/manga infobox. Well, this is not really an issue. We tend to use the anime/manga infobox for convenience and consistency, but this is not an obligation. I would leave this to the editors working there to decide.

3) Regarding the genre box - I took a look at the Rurouni Kenshin article and I can tell this format suits that page really well. However, this seems not to be the case with Sailor Moon. I think the reason is that in Kenshin historical fiction is a main genre, whereas in Sailor Moon romance is not that important. Thus the phrase "Magical Gils romance" sounds misleading to me. Someone should definitely place a description at Japanese television series and a bot's help should be requested. A lot of things revolving the Sailor Moon pages don't make sense either. Yes, the infoboxes should be changed because they're inconsistent with anime/manga box format. The anime categories should be placed in its respective anime page and the manga ones in theirs. I think just "Adventure, Magical girl, Romance" would do just fine. This simple format is the one used in most articles after all. And by all means, do change the infobexes of Sailor Moon (anime) and Sailor Moon (manga) if you want to. I don't see it as an issue but consistancy never hurts.

EDIT: I realized that there's already a cat for Japanse live-action tv series, which is Japanese television dramas. So, since Japanese television series is the parent cat, maybe it should be used only on articles about franchise containing more than one format of tv series: GTO for example, which has an anime tv series as well as a drama (live-action) tv series. And now that I think about it, this also applies to the Sailor Moon article, as it includes a live-action series too. This means I was wrong, and the parent cat does fit the SM article after all. Starlights Musical Picture

Hey, long time no chat. I was wondering if I could change the Starlights musical group image, to the original three (Katayama Sayuri, Ono Hikari and Okuyama Momoko) because they were there longer (can't really use this as an excuse heh they were amazing during their stages), plus I particularly like this[2](just copy the link into the browser) image with Kakyuu. Was there any specific reason the newer ones were chosen? I can't believe Maker is shorter then Fighter in the newer group lol. Their first edit wasn't vandalism; it was an only-slightly-misguided effort to rewrite a section they thought was bad. When their edit was reverted, they probably just didn't understand why or how, and so kept making marks on it to try to assert their right to change it. Then they took your insistance that they would be blocked if they dared to keep editing as an insult, and didn't get why this was such a big deal. ("If you don't like it, tough" isn't exactly polite, but it's also not blatantly abusive, and is clearly motivated by confused annoyance.) This is all pretty normal stuff for someone who doesn't get what Wikipedia's about. Hopefully they'll follow the link I left to the welcome page, educate themselves, and shape up. Hard to say, since they don't know enough to sign their edits, but apparently do know enough to nominate themselves for adminship. Possible sockpuppet, possible strangely-shaped learning curve. Of course, it doesn't look like they're trying to accomplish anything constructive, but they're also reverting most of their disruptive edits, so who knows. They should at least be amply warned before any blocking is done, and directed to the sandbox. If they're misguided, this will help. I agree that it's somewhat suspicious, but it's not obvious enough to make the call on. Like I said, just give him some appropriate warnings, then if he doesn't stop, try again to get him blocked and it's way more likely to work. Part of the requirement at WP:AIV is that the person has to have been sufficiently warned about their behavior, unless they are being openly and blatantly disruptive on purpose. This guy is still kind of in the "weird and mildly annoying" range, and no one's said anything to him, so a block request is unlikely to pass. Thanks for the barnstar - it gave me a bit of a laugh. :) All I can usually manage with barnstars is a 'you done good'. A couple of questions while I've got your ear - discussion on Doi's suitability seems to have petered out. Would it be okay to re-add the guide to Doi on WP:SM/REF? Another site which seems to have escaped censure so far is SM Uncensored, which has been cited in a paper on fansubs (I linked to the paper on Talk:List of Sailor Moon episodes, I think) and doesn't offer downloads. Hopefully that should be okay for SM Uncensored's reputation... Secondly, I'd really like to ask at the reference library about Napier's Akira to Mononoke, as it might have more of a thematic analysis and possibly different stuff. (I think the earlier one would have more on SM, just because of space concerns in the revised Akira to Howl.) Thing is, I'm not sure how soon would be acceptable to ask??? Hey err do you have any idea how to reference the age range of the senshi? I know their age are given somewhere but how do we show that over a year or two past from the first to the fifth arc? Ah right thanks. I'm now trying to figure out how to reference Hotaru's age. I suppose we could give her initial age a reference from somewhere lol but could we just state the episodes when she appears to be a newborn, 5 and 13? With a very specific commonality like this, you and I have clearly become instant life-long friends. The earlier version is wonderful too, but the final version wins hands down for me. Btw, I looked for ages for a Wiki-image and couldn't track it down because I was looking under the title Le ravissement de Psyché, the only French version of the name I've ever known; yet the title on the image is L'enlèvement de Psyché. I think dabs have a naming convention of their own, can't find it though. I found WP:DAB#NAME, which claims that disambiguation pages are usually named after the generic topic, and every linked term listed there is presented as "I Love You" and not "I love you". Thoughts? Not really, the rest of the passage seems to be talking about the Japanese ratings. It said that by 94, the fans of 1992 were beginning to grow out of Sailor Moon, so the show refocussed on Chibiusa, who was unpopular. -Malkinann (talk) 09:20, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Maybe her manga incarnation was significantly more likeable? That, and maybe Chibiusa suffered from Ikuhara's proto-Utena-esque story, it was quite heavy and symbolic and that was part of why SuperS was unpopular. Maybe it rubbed off on Chibiusa a bit? Sailor Moon's failure

Hi Masamage, I'm having some trouble interpreting a segment of the Anime Encyclopedia article on SM. It goes, after talking about how the dub was brought to America, shown at early dead times (as in who watches TV at that time anyway? it doesn't say what time) and it flopped. "SM's failure was an object lesson in how a multimedia sensation, heavily reliant on merchandising tie-ins, can crash without adequate support - Bandai would not make the same mistake with the later Pokemon." Amy and diff. series

One could consider the DiC and Cloverway dubs to be distinct productions - would the word "production" instead of "series" fit better? Also Amy is definately Amy Anderson in the TOKYOPOP novels, so even if "Anderson" is disputed in the anime it doesn't matter since Anderson is used in the novels. Sailor Senshi

Thanks for that! There were a couple more things, but I can't find them atm - although the henshin separates the lazy girl and the dedicated superhero, the superhero is as much of a crybaby. Minomiya was being paraphrased (but riskouyo was quoted) by Allison - so really it should say, According to Allison, Minomiya said blah blah blah. Also, the bit from Schodt was ported from the History of manga article - I'm assuming it's from Dreamland Japan. The bit on Girl Power needs a citation - we could use the one from the main article, Girl Power Make Up, but it doesn't really treat it as Girl Power except in the title. The Femspec paper by Newsom goes into much more depth on dubbie Sailor Moon as Girl Power, but alas, the article was peer-reviewed by western feminists, not by Sailor Moon fans, so it's wrong on some basic series information. We really should try to get a hold of Grigsby's whole 1999 book chapter - it's a revised edition of her 1998 paper (which I have) and as such she's changed her mind a bit about some things in regards to consumerism, ancient depictions of females and the Senshi. In the 1998 paper she's like 'okay, so they do draw back a bit to ancient women's roles, but they're mainly consumerist schills', but in the 1999 paper she's like 'they're very much the strong and tough village women, with a modern/Westernish consumerist gloss'. Sailor Moon (disambiguation)

I'm kind of iffy on that newer link you placed. Is there a list or something that includes all of the Sailor Moon-related arcs and movies? I don't think I added anything new, just shuffled things around. The only reason that story arc goes there is because it has the same name as the disambiguation page; the others have similar names, but not the same, so they don't really need to be disambiguated. The PGSM link can probably be removed as well. Sailormoon.Channel gives the manga subtitle as Dark Kingdom (with no mention of the series name), which is why the article is named that. But it wasn't named that at the time of release, and the anime series is definitely named simply "Sailor Moon", as you can see at the Dark Kingdom arc article. --Masamage ♫ 05:47, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Sailor Chibi Moon

Hi! You did a wonderful edit and I reckon it makes a lot more sense that way, but I noticed you did not include the part about the Chibi Moon Kaleidoscope and the Pink Moon Crystal in the end. I agree about the Chibi Moon Kaledioscope belonging in the item section, I only made mention of it because I noticed it wasn't mentioned there (someone should take care of adding it, I suppose). However, I think we must reconsider the Pink Moon Crystal mention. I know it's already mentioned in the items section, but I checked the other senshi pages and all of them with the sole expection of Neptune, mention their Dream arc crystals in the sailor senshi form section as well as in the item section. Sailor Moon's own page makes a mention of both the Silver Crystal and the Silver Moon Crystal on her senshi form section as well. So why would Sailor Chibi Moon be different? Without it, the only mention that is ever made about the Silver Crystal in that section is how Chibiusa uses it against Wiseman in the final battle of the anime, but it doesn't make mention of how in the manga she has it even in the 20th century. Besides, I do agree with their Sailor Crystals being mentioned in their senshi section as well, because they're not just "items" like say, the Crystal Carillon, but they're precisely what make them sailor senshi, and they even get kiled for them in Stars. They're supposed to be more than just items, so making is making a mention of them only in the item section, putting them in the same lebel as the Aqua Mirror and the Crystal Carilon, truly accurate? • IMDB's standards for movies and series that aren't high profile are very low, and they tend to just put in whatever people submit (cf. the page for "Lynn Harris"). Dear Masamage...I am writing today to ask for your participation in WikiProject Media franchises. You seem to have some interest in it, since you took the time to stop by and discuss the naming convention. It is just Emperor and me at the moment, and we could really use some additional editors to help us get articles identified as ones for the projects attention and assessed as such or written from scratch. Even if your only involvement is to keep an eye on what we are doing as a liaison from another project, that would be extremely helpful. I do not know everything there is to know about all the naming conventions, infoboxes, etc from the other projects, so I would love to have a core group of editors to help me coordinate this better. I was just reviewing older revisions of this article, which has existed since 2003, and was planning to revert back to a previous version.
