Problem with edits

Hey Tony, can you take a look at Ricardo_Sanchez, the history page in particular? There is a user there- 208.79.15.102- who is repeatedly adding personal attacks. It is obvious that he does not like Sanchez which is fine, but he is putting his personal attacks into the page. It's obvious from his Talk page that he or she or they don't care and there have been plenty of warnings left. Is there anything that can be done? Thanks, Frank The Original Historygeek (talk) 19:47, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Secretaries of State

While you are very correct that PR's Secretary of State is not a functionary of a "state", the listing of Secretaries of State should include those not only of states (which includes four "commonwealths" which happen to be states) but those of other state-level U.S. jurisdictions (two of which call themselves "commonwealths" even though they're territories!). I've added those positions at the end of the listing of state Secretaries of State, following the Governors template and would suggest you re insert the category in MacClintock's page. If territories and DC are not included in all "state" listings, they will continue falling through the cracks and continue suffering from what a distinguished jurist once called "benign neglect", since most users don't know or fail to remember that the United States has possessions other than states. Julia de Burgos

She's already in Category:Puerto Rican poets and Category:Puerto Rican women writers, both of which are subcategories of Category:Puerto Rican writers, and per WP:SUBCAT she therefore doesn't belong directly in Category:Puerto Rican writers in addition to the other subcategories. And one doesn't require the permission of a WikiProject to apply proper categorization rules. Bearcat (talk) 21:30, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

A special courtesy note just to inform the project that I'm actually going to apply the actual rules, which the project has a responsibility to already be familiar with anyway, every single time I even touch an article related to Puerto Rico? Nothing would ever actually get done around here if individual editors were actually held to an expectation like that. If I were planning a comprehensive change to the category structure, then certainly I'd undertake a courtesy note and discussion to ensure that I wasn't missing some nuances because of my more limited familiarity with Puerto Rico — but simply fixing a few isolated situations that aren't in accordance with rules that are already in place doesn't require special precautions first. DYK for Jaime Fonalledas

On February 20, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Jaime Fonalledas, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Your ribbons

Hey Tony! I've been doing some cleanup work for the last few days, specifically, going around to various pages converting raster images of US military ribbons to SVG images. I was working on File:National Defense Service Medal ribbon.png and I noticed you user page was using a bunch of older ribbons when there are many images available that look much better. Of course... your user page is protected. So, here, I'll offer you the code and you can paste it in... if you so desire, of course!

|-align=center

I hope you would use it, it looks so much neater. Cheers! bahamut0013wordsdeeds 13:28, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Tony, would you help me make an edit that has been blacklisted?
It is Democratic republic I tried to change it to the following:

with the edit summary as:

Democratic Republic is a form of republic not democracy

Flag of Puerto Rico

Hey Tony, I see that you nominated this article. I think that we have a solid presentation, the only thing that I could notice is that we seem to be missing the flag of Puertorriqueños por Puerto Rico, in the "Political flags of Puerto Rico" section. The historical facts and details are all there. - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:39, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Sure, I think one of my books could be useful. I'm going out shortly, so this may take a few hours, but don't worry about it. - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:48, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Hispanics in the United States Navy

Hi Tony - Wandalstouring mentioned that you are after a GA review for your article. I'd be happy to do this for you, but I'm unlikely to be able to get to it in the immediate future as I'm tied up with other commitments. I notice you've got it listed it at WP:GAN anyway, so if no-one else picks up the review in the meantime I promise to get to it as soon as I can. Is this ok? I can also recommend User:Jackyd101, User:Noble Story, User:Bellhalla and User:Philcha as top-notch reviewers (amongst others!), who may be able to help out. Joe Cuba

There are hundreds of other Bio's on Wikepedia with "survived by" info at the end. It doesn't turn it into a "memorial". All of your "verified" information is from unverified web sources. I'm his son and have forgotten more acurate information than you'll ever "verify". I guess I'll start my own page about my dad with acurate info...And his remains are NOT going to Puerto Rico!! More web based inacurate information...

-Mitch Calderon —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.190.36.207 (talk) 15:15, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

  • Mitch thank you for your message. Look tell you what, I wll assume that your additions were madein good-faith and therefore I will re-add them. The bios. that are in Wikipedia that contain "survied by" do so because there is a reliable verifiable source cited, such as a "newspaper" or a paper by written by an authority. We do this because believe it or not, there are hundreds of people vandalizing articles with false information (not you). For example, can you imagine if someone added : Joe Cuba died in a car crash and is survived by his wife Mini and 10 children? Get the picture? That is one of the reasons that "original"research is not permitted. Since this is an encyclopedia, it is to our interest to protect the integrity of your father's article from anyone that may claim to be his family and add false facts.

Now,in regard to the statement: "The band leader's remains are expected to be interred in Puerto Rico.". This statement was published in "USA Today" which is a respected newspaper, see for yourself: "NYC salsa band leader Joe Cuba dies at 78"; By Laura N. Perez Sanchez, Associated Press Writer. It wasn't something that we came up with, but once again I believe you and it will not be added.

Like I said, for some unknown reason, I believe in your good faith and that you are whom you claim to be. If you wish to make additions to the artilce, please feel welcomed to do so and I will help you to do so within our guidelines, that way we can avoid having others delete any of your additions. Tony the Marine (talk) 19:18, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Joe Cuba

Tony,

Thank you for your good faith. I guess it never really occured to me that people would pretend to be his kids, simply because I am. I read your bio and I saw that one of your kids name is Nina, which is my moms name and Joe Cubas first wife. He was cremated by the way at Woodhaven Cemetary last Friday and his ashes are retained by us. Even the newspapers are inaccurate from time to time. If you saw the news video when we carried his coffin into the church, that was me on the right as you're viewing it. I would be glad to provide you with some more photos of his younger days if you would like as well...

BTW...SEMPRE FI (OS2 Calderon, US NAVY 1982-1988)

-Mitch Calderon —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.190.36.207 (talk) 22:10, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

  • You know what? It would be great to add some more images. Since you are the copyright holder, I will guide you in the uploads. Your father and Ray Barretto were my favorite salsa musicians, especially since I was a teenager at the time. That is one of the reasons that I wrote about both of them. They played an instrumental role in introducing our Latin (salsa) music to the mainstream American public. I always tell my children about "El Pito". Tony the Marine (talk) 01:02, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Chupacabra

Hey Tony, can you please keep an eye on this article? I am currently trying to discuss the addition of an image, but the user that removed an "free" image calling it OR, seems more interested in the undo first, talk later approach. My concern is that this user's approach is eliminating the original Puerto Rican version of the myth, leaving only the Mexicanized dog-like version up. If he removes it again, can you do me a favor and remove both images followed by full protection? I prefer to sort this in the talk page, before it degrades into an edit war. - Caribbean~H.Q. 04:41, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

We had this one, which is fairly similar and free, but he removed it citing "original research". If we copy the one that I uploaded, he will claim copyvio like that. - Caribbean~H.Q. 05:47, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
It won't work, that is the root of the problem. The "free" image is close to the Tolentino's description, but sufficiently different to avoid being a copyvio. But he is bent that it is original research and thus unacceptable, if we draw another version, he will jump on the bandwagon again. - Caribbean~H.Q. 10:48, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Deletion Thread

Your turn. Also, make sure you put in all the words of the title to the story, or just simply, "Chupacabra" into the search function in the CBS KTVT-11 site and go from there. --293.xx.xxx.xx (talk) 10:42, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Verifiability policies and Wikipedia:Reliable sources guidelines. Read these two carefully. We cite the Articles/Story Segments creation/airing/printing date, not a blanket copyright date for a website's design and layout. --293.xx.xxx.xx (talk) 10:58, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

  • So what! Proof that the image is Public Domain. Show us that the copyright holder is properly attributed and that said coyright holder has given permission for the image to be used without any reservations. Do that and it'll fine. Now, please make your comments on the threads page and not here since you have to convince the community and not me. Tony the Marine (talk) 20:00, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Hello, Marine 69-71. This is the sixth issue of WikiProject Puerto Rico's newsletter. The newsletter is intended to help all members to keep up with the latest news relating to the project. Continuing our new format, this issue will discuss the news, achievements and other incidences relevant to our project between fall and winter. - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:34, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Flags and records

Greetings, during the past months, there has been a lot of activity and active discussion surrounding articles within our scope. Of particular interest is one that took place in Flag of Puerto Rico, in which several project members exposed their points of view regarding the tones of our flag. Ultimately, research brought forth a severe loophole in the regulation employed by the Senate of Puerto Rico. Our flag doesn't have official tones! Attempting to prevent future conflicts, I presented a proposal in the project's talk page. The subsequent discussion served as an perfect example of consensus. Thanks to everyone for your participation. In other news, our friend Tony the Marine added another impressive achievement to his brilliant resume. On December 8, 2008, his DYK hook for Ivan Castro (soldier) broke the previous all-time record for more views, receiving 71,300 visits. Tony has also been actively cooperating with this Newsletter, the inclusion of a new "Did you Know?" section, was entirely his idea. - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:34, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

A few loose topics...

First of all, I was wondering if you know what the acronym "CMTC" stands for. I know that it is related to military training, probably like ROTC, but the actual words evade me. It came up in the FLC for List of Puerto Rican boxing world champions, but the book only uses the acronym. Also, what do you think of Number-one Hits of 2009 (Puerto Rico) and Puerto Rico Top 40? They seem trivial and quite promotional (of a website) to me, should we delete them? - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:31, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

Don't worry, I got your back at the GAN. Apparently "CMTC" stands for "Combat Maneuver Training Center", but I had never heard of it before. - Caribbean~H.Q. 03:29, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

From the Coordinators
This month has been interesting for MILHIST, as we reorganized a few departments. The Outreach Department has been replaced by the tabs at the top of our totally redesigned project page; thanks to Kirill for the design and Bellhalla for the logo. We also created the Academy, a hub for practical advice about creating, editing, and reviewing quality content. All project members are cordially invited to fill in some of the red links, and new ideas are always welcome.
As you can see on the right, our A-class and featured content is growing quite rapidly; these numbers have now gone up by 45 for the second straight month! Great work! In addition, thanks go out to those who recently helped in reducing the A-class nominations backlog. Reviewers are still needed; if you feel up to it, please stop by and leave comments on an article—every review helps!
Lastly, the contest results for the month: Bellhalla took the cake again with 77 points and gets the Chevrons, while Ian Rose gets the Writer's Barnstar for his 60 points. Other participants included Bryce (49 points), Cam (25), David Underdown (11), Kirk (5), Parsecboy (20), Piotrus (?), Rosiestep (3), the_ed17 (27), Wild Wolf (6), and YellowMonkey (35). 51 total articles were improved as part of this.

Political flags of PR

I'll be glad to. Before writing my comment, I made a quick net search and didn't find anything. I'll try to find time to do some (prohibited) original research to try to find illustrations in books, etc. that can be copied and used. I do remember that the 1972 PUP flag was blue with a single white star in the middle, the 1968 PER flag was blue with red stripes, a white PR map and a "51" superimposed, the PSP flag had an industrial wheel with a fist in the middle, and the PRP 1984 flag had a multicolored rainbow. Roberto Sánchez Vilella's 1968 Partido del Pueblo flag had an orange rising sun with the slogan "Que el Pueblo Decida". I don't remember what Jorge Luis Landing's PAS flag looked like nor the Partido Acción Cristiana's 1960 flag, either. Pr4ever (talk) 10:46, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

List of Puerto Rican boxing world champions

Hey Tony, if possible, can you check this list's prose for any awkward wording or grammatical issues? It seems like the only thing preventing its promotion. - Caribbean~H.Q. 23:48, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks; The same idea came to me when the name came up in the book, I wonder what is his story. - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:25, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
Wow, you know Joseph Acaba? I have seen a lot of him lately, but had no idea that you were friends. We are doing a lot of noise, in virtually all aspects of society. Just for example, boxing has been giving me a lot to write lately, I published an article for Kenny Galarza a few days ago and I'm working on one for the 'Jonathan González' mentioned in the newsletter, he is quickly becoming an amateur promise. - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:58, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
A stub will have to do for now, perhaps the COPUR has something more, we could try e-mailing them. It seems like Joseph is stuck on ground until Sunday, some sort of malfucion prevented the launch. - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:53, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
We have another FL and a new champion. Cheers, - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:56, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
Yup, I selected that picture because it was the only one that featured a champion holding a belt. We also have one of "Juanma", but he is holding a regional title instead. Give my regards to Antonio for his help with this one. - Caribbean~H.Q. 00:13, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

List of Puerto Rican boxing world champions

Hello, Tony the marine. Just to say hello as always. Hey, the 'List of Puerto Rican boxing world champions' article is now a featured article; that is awesome. I am so proud of all the world champions that Puerto Rico has developed since Sixto Escobar and now we have a new champion in Roman “Rocky” Martinez (22-0-1, 13 KO's; 130 pounds). Well, till the next. Pedro ~~Io_Wiki2007~~ (talk) 01:30, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Boricua in Space

That is awesome. Can you believe it? The Puerto Rican Flag in the space Shuttle! That is like living in a dream. When I was a child I asked my teacher (third grade) that what of the Apollo (double-docked) vehicles were the one from the island, and she told me that the lunar landing module and that the Orbiting lunar module was from US! and I was too young to believe , hehe. But today, thanks to your news (I don't see TV) I was aware of such important moment for the island! Maybe one day we have an astronaut depositing a flag in the moon or Mars, who knows? We have important boxers, singers, politicians in everywhere despite the size of the island. Buenas noches, Tony Pedro ~~Io_Wiki2007~~ (talk) 22:52, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey, meng, long time no read. I hadn't even touched WP for months until last Thursday, as you probably have noticed. When the article for STS-119 incorporated a line for the wake-up call that featured "Qué Bonita Bandera" by Ramito, I opened his article and saw it didn't go beyond four or five paragraphs. I had researched the guy intensely for a while a few years ago, since he was one of my personal heroes (and it so happened that he committed suicide on a house that was literally a few blocks away from that of a former girlfriend of mine). I added a line to credit him as the author, and linked it to the shuttle mission article. The link was taken off a few hours after, since it wasn't a link to an article about the song itself or its interpreter (one of the typical anal retentive WP rules that I've come to despise so much...). Therefore, I expanded the article as best as I could do it over a few hours and set aside a section for the song (which probably would be a mere stub if it was on its own... and would probably be deleted in a few weeks' time, knowing how stubborn some WP'edians are). I relinked the section back to the article. Let's see how long it lasts... :-( Demf (talk) 03:01, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

We're all proud of the guy. What surprises me is how little media attention was given to his visit a year or two ago when the PR Senate brought him to Puerto Rico and how much attention they're giving him now. No attention when he was up close, a lot of attention now that he's so far away! Pr4ever (talk) 01:45, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Cape San Juan Light

Hola Tony, I was following the naming convention of WP:LHOUSES (as for example Chicago Harbor Light) and Lighthouses in Puerto Rico (El Morro or Port San Juan Light). Saludos, --J.Mundo (talk) 04:39, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

That will be nice if you can move it, just to keep with the naming convention of the other lighthouses and the Coast Guard [1]. I know you wrote the Irish immigration article so you may find this interesting, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/O'Neills of Puerto Rico. --J.Mundo (talk) 05:08, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Disappearing seals saga!

I can't understand this "disappearing seals saga" either. If you go to Héctor Luis Acevedo's bio, for example, you'll see the seal of Mayor of San Juan, and I think that's positive, relevant, instructive. Every infobox that mentions a position held that has a seal assigned to it should be illustrated by the seal. Pr4ever (talk) 01:35, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

An article for you

I thought you might be interested in reading this article: http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2009/03/22/2009-03-22_remains_of_brooklyn_marine_killed_in_act.html. It's quite sad, but it is a reminder that God has a plan for all of us. I'm glad that you made it home when so many others did not. I hope things are going well for you, jefe. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 08:08, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Oh, I believe it. It's your sincerity that endears me to you so much, Tony. I suffer from the same problem... I've been to far too many funerals and memorial services to not have trouble maintaining composure sometimes. But it's part of the life you and I chose. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 04:58, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Answer

Yes, I am. Simple! without the seal the page of the Honorable Kenneth McClintock look more clean. I'm putting the seal at the page of Secretary of State of Puerto Rico. PS Your wrong about the tonality of blue of the flag of PR, the official flag it's navy blue, and that's not change until this day, and pretend made now in other color is wrong. It's not acurate your position and the group too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rumpelstinkin (talkcontribs) 14:54, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Flag

Tony presicely your "consensus" is the problem if Wikipedia pretend a useful and acurate information source, what about to give wrong information about the official simbols the color is the same in 1952 and in 2009 that not change. The color in the mayority of the flag and for official use is navy blue. Munoz Marin used navy blue flag on the official day of the flag and then 50 years leater Gov. Sila used navy blue flag. I sugest if persons like to change the color use other metod to made. And thanks Tony for the usesful information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rumpelstinkin (talkcontribs) 03:46, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

During his presidency, statehooder Kenneth MacClintock used the lighter blue version on the Senate floor. In a radio interview where someone suggested he was using an "independentista" version, his explanation held water. He said that when the PR flag was adopted in 1895 in New York as the opposite of the Cuban flag, the Cuban flag's stripes were light blue. Years later, after an independent Cuba started flying their original flag over their Navy's vessels, they discovered that, at a distance, you could only see the red triangle, because the light blue stripes disappeared against the background of sea and sky. It was then that Cuba decided to adopt the "Navy blue" tonality (by the way, that's why it's called Navy blue, to provide a stark contrast to the sea and sky background). Cuba's change was never made applicable to the Puerto Rico flag and, as Tony has very correctly stated, there is no law or regulation in Puerto Rico specifying the exact blue tonality to be used. Let us all be proud of the Puerto Rican flag, wherever it flies and in whatever tonality of blue its triangle waves! Pr4ever (talk) 10:05, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

List of U.S. Marines

Tony, Finally finished inline citations from reliable sources for all of the current entries. 199 unique references. I didn't count imdb, fan sites, blogs, even "Famous Marines" sites as reliable. See the talk page for a list of those I removed for lack of reliable/compatible references and/or notability. There are a couple more that I question sufficient notability. I'll wait a bit and then add them for discussion. — ERcheck (talk) 03:50, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

;-) We were typing to each other at the same time. I hope all is going ok with you. I've been overwhelmed at work, so have cut back my editing. My citation search was a way to distract myself. I'll be laying low for a while now so I can give more attention to things in real life. — ERcheck (talk) 03:52, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Congratulations!

Congrats on all your contributions to Puerto Rico, Latin America and the wider universe; I do not think I am incurring in hyperbole when I attest that your acts of love, passion for knowledge and helping humanity --comprehend itself and others better-- will be there in humanity's history for milennia to come.

I wanted to ask three questions. First, I am sure that many more pictures for the PR articles would be available and institutions/persons would be willing to authorize them. Is there a way for us to streamline the process of adding pictures and avoiding their removal? For example, articles such as the one on the P N P & P I P party articles have lost valuable images apparently due to problems with sourcing or other possible problems.

Also, on a second matter, I wanted to ask how I can request an article on the notable Puerto Rican, Francisco Arrivi?

http://www.prpop.org/biografias/f_bios/francisco_arrivi.shtml

Thanks so much, my dear admired Wikipedian,

Jose Maria Marxuach

Tony, the granddaughter of Jose Maria Marxuach surprisingly fails to understand that Acisclo Marxuach (and not Teofilo) opted to sport the surname Marxuach-Echavarria because the latter was more prestigious than Plumey, in fact it connoted certain nobility (that of the Echavarria-Contis), hence his position as Grand Master of The Order of Saint John the Baptist of Puerto Rico (which followed that of his relation, Francisco Ramirez de Arellano y Conti), this fact is documented in the "External Links" section. Let us respect the Grand Master's wishes.--72.221.92.43 (talk) 15:44, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

(19) An Order dedicated to Saint John but which has not assumed the famous eight-pointed cross, is the Order of Saint John the Baptist of Puerto Rico, founded on that island in 1929 by a group descended from Spanish noblemen and long-resident on the island. The first Grand Master was Francisco Ramirez de Arellano y Conti, from 1929-1936, and in 1950 the Grand Master was Acisclo Marxuach y de Echavarria, elected in 1945, at which time there were twenty Grand Crosses (including "Exc.mo Sr Umberto de Savoia", more properly H.M. King Umberto II of Italy), nine commanders and twenty-six knights. GREAT ORDERS OF CHIVALRY--72.221.92.43 (talk) 01:51, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

For official purposes he was known as Marxuach y Plumey, but when he wanted to emphasize his "nobility" he sported the surname Marxuach y de Echavarria.--72.221.92.43 (talk) 02:00, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Happy to assist. Give my regards to Margarita Dross, née Marxuach.--72.221.92.43 (talk) 04:25, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

I know her, by reputation (good). It's not a big deal, she can have it changed if she wants. I just wanted to point out my justification for including his name in the manner I did.--72.221.92.43 (talk) 19:48, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

A Nod to Forever

Tony,

I have noticed something extraordinary.

It is only my opinion.

But in your own quiet way...day after day...year after year...you have become the single greatest Professor and preserver of Puerto Rican History.

More than anyone else, you have written and saved the story of our island.

It is an incredible, beautiful, mind-blowing feat.

And it will last forever.

Thank you so much,

Tony has become, at least, Puerto Rico's top military historian. Maybe that's why he's been recognized in Puerto Rico. Pr4ever (talk) 00:44, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

  • Recently in my talk page I have been receiving very kind words which truly humble me. I thank everyone for those words, but I am only a small part of a wonderful group of Boricua Wikipedians who, regardless of their political or personal believes, have selfishly dedicated themselves to writing about the unbiased truth of the history and the amazing people of our wonderful and beautiful island. I thank God everyday that there are people like Joelr31, Caribbean H.Q., Pr4ever, Jmundo, Cerejota, Boricuaeddie, Mtmelendez and Demf just to mention a few, whose contributions are helping to create an awareness that despite the size of our island, we are a people that have a lot to be proud of. I firmly believe "Un pueblo que no conoce la verdadera historia de su pasado, no esta capcitada para elijir su futuro" and you can quote me on that. Gracias y Que Dios los bendiga a todos. • Since I don't know who is asking or why, I can not provide you with my home address. I do have my e-mail address posted. However, if this is about the deletion of the Guanikeyu article. I want you to understand that Wikpeida policy requires reliable verifiable sources (newspaper, magazine articles etc.) and not personal websites, fansites, blogs etc. to proof what is stated in an article is the truth. Once you have the sources, you can resumit the article with the proper citations. Tony the Marine (talk) 04:00, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Re: Barnstar

No problem. Call on me if you need anything else. Thanks for the barnstar; I'll tackle about 12 refs a day. Dabomb87 (talk) 21:41, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Lydia Echevarria

You restored this page and added refs. Thanks for referencing it, but I disagree with your edit summary "adding refs. This is an article of a notable actress accussed of a crime and therefore there is no justifiable reason for it's deletion" CSD G10 is a perfectly normal deletion reason, and specifically states "negative unsourced BLP" as a reason: this page was obviously a negative unsourced BLP, and had not been sourced in the six years of its existence. While your referenced restoration was justified, please don't claim that deletions which are perfectly in line with our policies are not justifiable. Fram (talk) 09:26, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

To followup on this: WP:BLP clearly states: "Administrators encountering BLPs that are unsourced and negative in tone, where there is no neutral version to revert to, should delete the article without discussion". I hope that one of our basic policies is enough for a "justifiable reason"?

  • You are right, it wasn't sourced and that was the creators biggest mistake, I'm not going to contest your argument. Maybe an "unsourced" tag should have been placed or at least someone (maybe the deletionist) should made a quick google search to verify the "why" of the negativity of the article, I don't know. What I do know is that the subject in question is more notable for the horrendous crime which she committed against one of Puerto Rico's most beloved personalities and therefore it should surprise no one that the subjects article is an unbiased negative article and it should not have been deleted. The Military history WikiProject Newsletter : Issue XXXVII (March 2009)

The Military history WikiProject Newsletter Issue XXXVII (March 2009)
From the coordinators

The big news of course was the seventh project coordinator election covering the period ending 30 September. The quality of the candidates was extremely high, with some of the project's top content builders running alongside highly experienced backroom people. Of the eighteen candidates, sixteen were finally appointed, giving us probably the most rounded coordination team so far.

Those elected were: Abraham, B.S., Bellhalla, Cam, Eurocopter, EyeSerene, Ian Rose, Jackyd101, Joe N, Lordoliver, Maralia, MBK004, Nick-D, Roger Davies (lead), Skinny87, The ed17 and TomStar81. Kirill Lokshin continues in his role as coordinator emeritus. Thanks must go to the departing coordinators – Bedford, JonCatalán and Woody – for helping make the project what it is today

The C-class referendum, held at the same time, produced a slight majority of votes for introduction, but was insufficient to demonstrate a clear consensus. So, for the time being at least, therefore, the project will continue without C-class. Otherwise, focus is likely be on the Academy and the development of courses to develop reviewing, copy-editing and article-building skills. Some review of our task forces is also probable, perhaps consolidating some of the smaller, quieter, ones. As ever, input from everyone is not only welcomed but positively encouraged.

The coordinators' gratitude goes not only to those who participated in the election and referenda but also to everyone who works quietly and conscientiously away to make participation in this project rewarding, successful and productive. Milhist is very fortunate in its membership! Thank you all,  Roger Davies talk 16:15, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Re: Opinion

Looks pretty good. I will work on the referencing. Just a reminder, dates should not be linked. I also copy-edited the lead. Dabomb87 (talk) 22:51, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

The list looks very nice, but I am worried about the referencing. Not the formatting, mind you, but the actual references, in particular, the reliability of some of the sources. For example, what makes the following two sources reliable?
  • Couldn't you use the Army website for all the citations? Also, another big issue at the FLC will be the images. For example, there is nothing to verify that File:Daniel Fernandez.jpg was indeed taken by a US employee or soldier. I suggest finding someone experienced with images and copyright to go through the images before hand. Ask around at WP:MCQ. Dabomb87 (talk) 02:14, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
  • Are you sure the image is copyrighted? Dabomb87 (talk) 00:04, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

According to a report in El Vocero, a boxer named "David Santos" is one of two Nuyorican boxers that are missing in the List of Puerto Rican boxing world champions, the other one being Kevin Kelley Ortiz. However, I may need Antonio's help to figure if it is this one or this one. - Caribbean~H.Q. 05:28, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Hispanic and Latino Americans

¡Hola, Tony!

There's an obnoxious editor (97.118.116.7; he also uses 24.9.96.166) over at that article who insists on making several subjective changes, yet insisting that somehow there's this big consensus for them. His comments on the talk page and on my own have been borderline disturbing (Hispanic and Latino Americans#Pictures of non-white Hispanics and Hispanic and Latino Americans#SamEV; [2]). He's just engaged in stalking, undoing (and then restoring) an edit of mine at another article for no apparent reason than because it was an edit of mine ([3]). I've just reverted his changes at H&LA – but I'm open to a compromise, of course. Would you keep an eye on that page, please?

On a different note, the article has a small section about Latinos in the U.S. military. I'd like very much if you expanded the section one of these days when you have the time, please.

Thank you, and Happy Easter! SamEV (talk) 19:40, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Also, Tony, where do I report a user who's received warnings, including a final warning, for unsourced additions?

And below, User:97.118.116.7 provides you even better evidence of his menacing attitude. SamEV (talk) 01:38, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Ok so you talk to a Hispanic admin to resolve this matter. No one is stalking you. You are making obnoxious unsourced edits when there is more than 1 person disagreeing with you and you change without talking first in the talk page. I'm not afraid of admin, I can report this admin if he does anything that violates the nature of wikipedia. SamEV, I suggest you stop accusing people of "racist," "obnoxious" first. Let's talk 97.118.116.7 (talk) 23:38, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
I'll reply on the article's talk page. SamEV (talk) 01:38, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
