Ways to improve Onofrio Puglisi

edit

Hi, I'm Rasimmons. Marco Chemello (BEIC), thanks for creating Onofrio Puglisi!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. The page only contains one source, and while it establishes that Puglisi was a mathematician, it does not establish that he is of any importance.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. R. A. Simmons Talk 16:30, 17 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Ottavio Scarlattini

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Ottavio Scarlattini requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Creating new pages without sources

edit

Hello! just curious about someting. Since you are a Wikipedian in residence, you muct know that articles need sources. Why are you creating pages without sources? I have seen several of them in the new pages feed. Here's an example: Lazzaro Mongiardini. It would be nice if you did research and included sources when publishing the page, as it saves others the work of tagging it "unreferenced", "refimprove" etc, or even looking for the sources! Happy editing.....HappyValleyEditor (talk) 00:21, 24 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I'm Rasimmons. Marco Chemello (BEIC), thanks for creating Vincent Leotaud!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. This article seemingly relies on mainly period sources, all by the same period author. I feel like it could use some more contemporary sources by more varied authors, if possible.

Unanswered question

Dear Marco Chemello,

I sent you a question with the following diff on Sept. 25, about an image that you added on that date to the main page. I did not get any answers about it, and I had almost forgotten about it. But another user now thanked me for my question, and that reminded me again of it. Could you please look at the question again and answer it on that talk page? I would appreciate it. Thank you, warshy (¥¥) 22:20, 5 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Dear @Warshy: sorry but I didnt'received the notification (sometimes it happens). The info about Acosta is in the BEIC digital catalogue (you can access the matadata page clicking on the BEIC link on the BEIC banner on the image page, then click on "Show MetaData for"). You see he's identified not only by name but also by approx. birth/death. If you find any error, please let me know and I'll forward it to the BEIC librarians. Thank you again. --Marco Chemello (BEIC) (talk) 08:51, 6 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Dear Marco Chemello. Thank you very much for the metadata information on the original manuscript you give below. This appears to be a collection of original legal/jurdical manuscripts from the 16th century and beginning of 17th century. This is the relevant information about all the original manuscripts contained in the collection:
  • Miscellanea iuridica -- ff. 304-308: Henricus Simonis, Repetitio ad C. 3.28 -- ff. 367-500: Pedro Barbosa, Repetitio ad D. 36.1 -- ff. 500-522: Henricus Simonis, Repetitio ad C. 2.3.6 -- ff. 522-550: Uriel Acosta, Repetitio ad D. 41.2 -- ff. 550-554: Roderigo Lopez, Repetitio ad D. 41.2.23 -- ff. 554-590: Antonius Vazius, Repetitio ad D. 12.1
So apparently the relevant pages concerning Uriel Acosta would be on folios 550-554 of the collection. From Uriel Acosta's biography we know that he studied canonical law at the University of Coimbra between 1600 and 1608. So these 4 pages/folios would appear to be some legal/juridical work concerning canonical law that Uriel da Costa wrote when he was a student of law at the University of Coimbra. As far as I know these 4 pages/folios written in Latin manuscript are original documents from the period and from the University of Coimbra that were never before studied or published in a modern scholarly format. As a student of the subject and of the history of the period I would very much appreciate it if you could locate those 4 pages/folios in the collection and send me a digital reproduction of them? But even of that is not possible, I believe that all this historical information would be important for you and for the catalogue librarians to have and to know. Thank you very much! warshy (¥¥) 16:18, 6 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Dear @Warshy: this should be the complete manuscript (that's all we have), I hope it will help your research (if it does, please let us know!). --Marco Chemello (BEIC) (talk) 19:13, 6 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Dear Marco Chemello: Wow! I can see the collection of manuscripts now, and it is a real treasure for the student of 16th and 17th original Latin manuscripts. Even though I am trying to improve my early modern Latin reading skills, I cannot yet call myself exactly that, i.e. "a student of 16th and 17th century Latin manuscripts." But I will try to look into the Uriel Acosta pages carefully over the next years, as time allows. Whenever I come up with anything tangible from it I will do let you know about it, and I will also acknowledge it. I promise. Thank you very much for all your research efforts!
