Proposed deletion of Quarry-faced stone

The article Quarry-faced stone has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

article with only one sentence and one source. No evidence of notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thepharoah17 (talkcontribs) 17:47, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

The tool BaGLAMa 2 is not showing data since December 2022

This tool shows monthly view counts for pages containing images from selected Commons categories.

For some reason, since December 2022 there is no data at all.

Please, i will be vary glad if you can fix it.

Increasing duplicity components for enWS

HI MM. A couple of things.

1) I am trying to fix up categories at enWS and I have come up with my petscan query petscan:23754561 producing my categories without items, however, when I hit the "check wikidata" link the output list can be very long, and there is NOT the ability to do a search with category: name (which I believe is a WD issue)

Example https://wikidata-todo.toolforge.org/duplicity.php?wiki=enwikisource&norand=1&page=Category%3ATypography gives that long list, and the only means I have to narrow down is to tap on each result as searching for "Category:Typography" gives no results, and Category:Typography (Q6501972) is no. 181 on the produced list.

2) How does enWS get itself set up to better utilise Duplicity as has been done for the WPs? All the outputs that I have generated have all been via Petscan, nothing native to the app. Or is that the ideal way to go?

Thanks. — billinghurst sDrewth 01:20, 27 January 2023 (UTC)

ISIN (toolforge)

I can't find it on Bitbucket, so I'm asking here.
isin.toolforge.org
1. Could you add the https://www.gpw.pl/spolka?isin=?
2. Could you update the address list? Most of them probably doesn't work, judging by the "en" section - I didn't check the rest (de, ja):
ISIN Network - doesn't work, requires registration to search ([1])
Morningstar Financials - service down (or just full?; https://www.morningstar.com/search?query= seems to work, but it looks like it's not free)
NYSE: New York Stock Exchange - doesn't seem to work (service moved or removed?)
Yahoo Finance - url doesn't use ISIN, the on site JavaScript search converts it to another value
CDSL India - ww1 is dead, looks like paid service
National Securities Depository Limited - doesn't seem to work (service moved or removed?) MarMi wiki (talk) 22:04, 12 March 2023 (UTC)

I am writing to you because BAGLAMA2 tool crashed in January 2023 , and more importantly I would need to change the depth of a category, is there a way to do that?

@SSapaty (WMF): Unfortunately Magnus is not very active these days, but most of his tools have their source code published on BitBucket. There’s also a tabernacle repo there, I assume that’s what you’re searching for. Could you maybe verify this and add the link to the Toolsadmin metadata? —Tacsipacsi (talk) 17:58, 4 April 2023 (UTC)

Pagepiles are not working

Hi, I hope you are doing well. The Page pile tool is currently experiencing an issue. Previously, I used it without any problems to extract the number of views for a group of articles using the mass views tool. However, today the tool is no longer functioning properly. Whenever I try to log in to the site, I'm greeted with a 502 bad gateway message. I would like to inquire about the expected timeframe for resolving this problem. Additionally, I'm wondering if there is an alternative method available to measure the number of views for a set of articles within a specific time period. Geograph2commons has been broken for over two years. This is causing people to waste time trying to use it. Would you be willing to add a note to the tool to indicate that it no longer works? Under that policy I must post this notice on your home wiki (which according to Special:CentralAuth/Magnus Manske is English Wikipedia), on Wikitech, and by email, and you can prevent adoption by objecting within 14 days. --bjh21 (talk) 17:35, 16 August 2023 (UTC)

Adding category to BaGLAMa doesn't "stick"

Hello Magnus! I was using BaGLAMa to look at some stats for the category named "Files from Flickr's 'The Commons'" (link to category on Wikimedia Commons). I went back to the page to look at the stats again and the category was not showing on the list and when I went to re-add it, I got the error message "This category already exists, nothing was changed. Please check the list." I'm wondering if maybe there is an issue with the quotation marks in the category name and if you have a suggestion for getting this category added so we can keep track of Flickr Commons item stats and pull out some useful data. Thanks for any ideas you might have. Jessamyn (my talk page) 18:18, 25 September 2023 (UTC)

Vandalism on your ISIN tool

Hi Magnus, as I noted about a year ago, the template page for your ISIN tool (User:Magnus Manske/ISIN), which forms part of Template:ISIN and, by extension, Template:Infobox company, is frequently vandalized. I realize that you check here only infrequently and my message was likely archived before you could see it. If you read this find the time to do so, please move the ISIN page to a better-fit location (such as Template:ISIN/links, where it can be template-protected) and change the respective link in your tool. Kind regards, IceWelder [] 10:57, 25 January 2024 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) I think the simplest solution is to permanently semi protect the mentioned page. I went ahead and did so just now. A small protection template was added. If that breaks the tool, feel free to delete the protection template. –Novem Linguae (talk) 21:19, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
Good call, thanks! I believe I tried RPP the last time around but my request was rejected because it was in userspace. Maybe you also have an idea for what to do with the talk page? It was repeatedly created by IPs posting gibberish, such that I recently just replaced it with a WP Companies tag, so there are likely better ways to handle this. IceWelder [] 07:51, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
Edits to the talk page don't break the tool, protecting talk pages is unusual and a higher bar, and there's only one edit of vandalism to the talk page. With that combination of things, I think I'll leave the talk page unprotected for now. Hope that's OK. –Novem Linguae (talk) 11:44, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
I think I had it deleted at least once in the past. It doesn't need protection, but I'm unsure if anything should even be there. Should a userpage have WP tags? Should it just be blank? Should it be re-deleted (and salted)? IceWelder [] 10:56, 27 January 2024 (UTC)
It's rare for a user talk page to have WikiProject tags, but sure, can do so if the tags make sense. Blanking and deleting are also reasonable options. All options seem about equal to me, so I'd suggest just leaving as is here. –Novem Linguae (talk) 11:46, 27 January 2024 (UTC)

Administrative permissions and inactivity reminder

This is a reminder that established policy provides for removal of the administrative permissions of users who have made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period. You are receiving this annual reminder since you have averaged less than 50 edits per year over the last 5 years.

Inactive administrators are encouraged to reengage with the project in earnest rather than to make token edits to avoid loss of administrative permissions. Resources and support for reengaging with the project are available at Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/administrators. Category assignment issue of your bot on jawiki

Hi Magnus Manske, just letting you know, in case you've missed it, that you've got a complaint about your bot on ja:User_talk:ListeriaBot. The bot's been categorizing ja:User:Jura1/pages with Wikidata items without any statements with categories for the Main namespace. This was reported to the admins' noticeboard as a malfunction, and the reporter claims that the bot should be blocked until it's re-coded to add a leading colon ([[:Category). Please have a look at the talk page once. Thanks. Dragoniez (talk) 12:11, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

@Dragoniez: It’s not the bot’s fault. The SPARQL query instructs it to concatenate [[, the page title, and ]] · , and it does so. The SPARQL query needs to be updated to include the colon – the leading colon doesn’t cause any harm in links pointing to other namespaces, so it can be just blindly added to all links. (I don’t want to do this myself, because it’s on a user subpage on a wiki whose language I don’t speak.) —Tacsipacsi (talk) 22:50, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
@Tacsipacsi Thank you for the information. I just made that edit. I’ll also reject the block request. Dragoniez (talk) 08:51, 19 April 2024 (UTC)

ListeriaBot malfunction in several Wikipedias

Since some hours ago, ListeriaBot is doing strange edits in automatic lists across several Wikipedias and several topics. It seems to be missing part of the queries and often misformatting the lists. https://github.com/magnusmanske/listeria_rs/issues/121

Suggestion: Wikinator

With so many websites using MediaWiki, how about a version of reasonator that outputs in wikitext so it can be pasted in directly?

For example if there was a "fandom" wiki page for an actor people would be able to fill the information wikidata has for them.

This might also encourage people (as a starting point for creating a wiki page) to first gather the information into wikidata.

The idea could also be extended to other markup languages for example Atlassian (JIRA) Wiki (confluence) uses "markdown" Back ache (talk) 10:00, 20 June 2024 (UTC)

Suggestion: Infoboxinator

With so many wikipedia pages that'd benefit from an infobox, and the "spotty" support in infobox templates for wikidata how about a version of reasonator that outputs in as the wikitext for an infobox so it can be pasted in directly? Back ache (talk) 10:05, 20 June 2024 (UTC)

Wikidata Tools

Hello! I noticed that some editing monitoring tools on Wikidata, User edits and WD edit stats, are malfunctioning. My name is Vicente Detoni, I am part of the brazilian project Mais Teoria da História na Wiki, and this year we are promoting an editing campaing in the Wikimedia universe called Mais Mulheres. We want to improve our mechanisms for evaluating the edits made, and the tools mentioned above could help us a lot with this. Could you investigate what might be happening? Do the tools have any documentation I could consult? Thank you in advance. Vsdetoni (Projeto Mais+) (talk) 13:17, 21 June 2024 (UTC)

Hey, @Magnus Manske, when you get a chance, could you take a look at this for me? Vsdetoni (Projeto Mais+) (talk) 17:04, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
Hi @Vsdetoni, I think my "herding sheep" tool might help you (this is us this month on Wikidata). You can set a project, a a category with users or a manual user list on that project, and a start/end time (optional). It will show all the edits, plus a summary.
QuickCounter was broken because some database tables changed, I fixed it now. Gives you basic statistics on a user.
UserEdits gives you edits on Wikidata for a specific user. You can filter on time range and actions. You can also give a SPARQL query, and only edits in one of the resulting items will be shown. This you editing research institutes.
You can also get a simple edit count for all users who edited items from a SPARQL query. This shows how often users edited research institutes on 2024-07-01.
SparqlRC can give you the same but with a lot more details.
If you need a bespoke tool, let me know what you imagine, I can probably patch something up. --Magnus Manske (talk) 12:42, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
Hello, @Magnus Manske! Thank you very much for the generous response! There are many interesting options. The first tool you presented seems quite useful for our purposes. Mobile design for CAS Search Tool

Hello Magnus, let me express my appreciation for the tools you have developed and continue to maintain. I wanted to ask if it would be possible for you to consider making the design of the CAS Search Tool more flexible based on the user’s screen size. Currently, the tool is primarily designed for desktop use, and a more responsive design would greatly enhance usability, especially for those accessing it on mobile devices because currently the letters looks quite small on mobile (example for ukwiki). Thank you! Mike.Khoroshun (talk) 16:39, 23 August 2024 (UTC)

Actually, as far as I see, it’s pretty flexible based on the user’s screen size – it just doesn’t advertise this, so mobile browsers, to be on the safe side, treat it as if it wasn’t flexible. (Desktop browsers, on the other hand, don’t stay on the safe side, so if you resize your desktop browser window, you’ll see that it works.) Simply adding a viewport meta tag would mostly fix it. The only thing that doesn’t seem to work in narrow mode is the hamburger menu: if I click on the hamburger icon, nothing happens. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 22:42, 24 August 2024 (UTC)

User question regarding PagePile: SPARQL on Commons?

Hi NotAGenious, there are several tools under that umbrella. Are you talking about FIST or WD-FIST or WD4WP? --Magnus Manske (talk) 07:53, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
An example that doesn't work would also help. --Magnus Manske (talk) 08:20, 30 August 2024 (UTC)

Petscan and FlaggedRevs

Hi, sorry to bother you here, but I find the Petscan tool very effective for finding pages with pending changes within a given category and its subcategories. However, due to recent changes in the database tables, Petscan now throws an error when attempting to find such pages (example query). This issue was submitted three months ago: GitHub. I understand you're busy, and I feel bad for asking here, but would you be able to take a look and possibly fix this issue? Thanks in advance, Tufor (talk) 19:33, 28 September 2024 (UTC)

Apologies for the delay, fixed now. --Magnus Manske (talk) 08:42, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
