December 2017

According to RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), the album Romances of Luis Miguel was certified with platinum for one million units sold on June 19, 1998 according to this information. See in "More Details" Section. Andrea (talk) 23:25, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

@Wiki Andrea 2012: The RIAA certifications are based on units shipped to retails, not actual sales. I even mentioned this in the prose for all four Romance articles. Nielsen SoundScan is the one that deals with actual sales in the US. See the source for the sales for Segundo Romance and Romances from List of best-selling Latin albums in the United States article. South American charts

Hi Erick – the user CHUI372 has been creating lists of the number-one singles in Colombia and Venezuela, but using the Monitor Latino charts. I didn't think that Monitor Latino provided the official charts for these countries (I thought it was National-Report for Colombia, at least) – am I wrong? He's also using Monitor Latino to create number-one lists for Guatemala and Bolivia, and I don't know the state of chart providers in theses countries, if they have an official chart or not. Richard3120 (talk) 14:47, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

@Richard3120: I honestly don't know. I used National-Report because Monitor Latino only focused in Mexico back then, but now ML is expanding to other LaTAm countries. I really don't have a preference between the two tbh. And I'm glad ML is including countries that didn't have recognized charts like in Guatemala and Bolivia, because they had none. Your reversal

I am writing to you for your reversion to my contribution. I do not understand what is the idea of writing in English what is not in English. I try to collaborate in what I can, but it is difficult for me to undo arbitrarily my contributions. As far as I know Spanish is written in Spanish, English in English, German in German and French in French. Why do you write in English what is in Spanish?Penquista (talk) 20:54, 22 May 2018 (UTC)

@Penquista: I'm well-aware of the rules of Spanish capitalization. I will refer you to this discussion and why it's not accepted. Erick (talk) 22:09, 22 May 2018 (UTC)

Latin trap

What were you traying to direct me to? You made and error in your edit summary. But the list is unfortunately incomplete, it should have atleast the {{dynamic list}} template, instead of what you added, atleast that's my opinion. ~SMLTP 23:41, 11 August 2018 (UTC)

@Sixty Minute Limit: I meant to link to WP:Example cruft, and the many "notable artists" is going against WP:INDISCRIMINATE. We don't need too many examples, just a few that gives a reader a good idea about the subject of the article. Erick (talk) 00:09, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

File:Asifuepantoja.jpg

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. I would now like to get it to FA standard, and saw you are listed as willing to mentor for this process; you don't mention interest in film, but do mention Spanish language popular culture—many of the sources are in Spanish so this could be an area you're better able to help with? I'd love any recommendations you have. I've also asked other users who may be able to help, so no worries if not! Kingsif (talk) 02:15, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

Spanish Aries Certification

I think it's a reissue of that book, I don't have it. I took the data from here: https://www.ukmix.org/showthread.php?26100-Book-About-Spanish-Charts-(1959-2002!)&p=6532077&highlight=luis+miguel#post6532077 It is obvious that the data is correct, but I do not know how it could be referenced.

If it's a new edition change the "1st" to the new one.--88marcus (talk) 03:28, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
@88marcus: I need the page number from the book as well though for verification purposes. Erick (talk) 12:27, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
@Magiciandude: I don't have the book, and I don't think that there's a new edition. This guy on UKmix uses others sources to the recent data. He uses the book only for 1959-2002 data.--88marcus (talk) 15:49, 13 May 2019 (UTC)

Luis Miguel Chilean certifications

Hi mate, I found this picture from a 1999 awards cenemony in Chile https://i.imgur.com/zLyiHU2.jpg. He recieved 3 diamond discs (250,000 units) for "Romance", "Segundo Romance and "El Concierto", 4x platinum for "Amarte Es Un Placer", and an award for 1,750,000 copies in total. Another pic with the trophies https://i.imgur.com/bn12saq.jpg. This is not a reliable source right?. Ok I found one source: http://wvw.nacion.com/viva/1999/noviembre/30/espec3.html

Here says he sold with "Romances" 433,000 copies. http://wradio.com.mx/radio/2008/05/17/entretenimiento/1211050080_598042.html

Until 2010, he sold in total: 2.456.533 copies, top 1 in Chile by far. https://web.archive.org/web/20100330074225/http://diario.latercera.com/2010/03/27/01/contenido/6_27655_9.shtml

Subgenre removals

Hey, it’s been a while, how’s it going? So down to business, apparently, someone took it upon themselves to remove regional Mexican subgeneres from artists infoboxes, here is an example [1]. Should we leave it as is due to those being categorized as subgeneres in the regional Mexican genre or revert back because technically in Mexico, those are categorized as stand alone genres and not all merged into one (regional Mexican)? Fundude99talk to me 05:19, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

@Fundude99: I'd say use whatever reliable sources say for each artist. If the user is changing genres without providing sources and relying on original research, then those edits should be reverted. Erick (talk) 23:43, 2 June 2019 (UTC)

Re: 1980s in Latin music

Hello, Erick! I've been busy in real life, so it may take a while until I get to work on the article, but yeah, you can definitely count on me. I think key aspects of 1980s music in Brazil is that in 1985 we had the first, iconic edition of Rock in Rio. Also, it was the decade of birth of pretty much every classic Brazilian rock band, as well as the decade of release of their most relevant albums. Victão Lopes Fala! 21:46, 16 August 2019 (UTC)

FA review?

Hey. I noticed your current FAC nomination, and was wondering if you'd be interested in trading reviews? I'd love to get as much feedback as possible this time around for my nomination, and would be more than prepared to review yours in return. I understand if you don't have the time, though. Kind regards, Homeostasis07 (talk · contribs) 01:07, 29 August 2019 (UTC)

@Homeostasis07: I don't know if I'll be able to this week because of work and a hurricane coming to Florida. Erick (talk) 01:50, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
No worries. I actually only renominated last night... so, considering the glacial pace of FA these days, we probably have a month (or three) to respond to each other's noms. ;) I'm praying you escape the worst of the oncoming hurricane. I'm in Europe, where we fortunately don't have to deal with many (or any?) genuine hurricanes. Every one of them must be terrifying, though. I hope you and all your loved ones stay safe and well. Proposed deletion of File:Prince Royce-Stand By Me 3.jpg

The file File:Prince Royce-Stand By Me 3.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:NFCC#8; sourced critical commentary not substantial enough to justify using this cover art. Eliminating the image wouldn't affect readers' understanding of the song.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Romance is FA in Spanish Wikipedia

Hi Erick. I wanted to let you know that Romance is FA in Spanish Wikipedia. After a lot of work in eswikipedia it was possible and I wanted to share this with you. Regards. Irwin dime 21:07, 14 October 2019 (UTC)

@Kirito: Yay! I'm glad to hear that! It's my favorite LM album, so that's great news! And it just happens that I got Amarte Es un Placer (album) featured article here in English Wikipedia just recently! I am finished with Luis Miguel's albums. I worked from Romance all the way to Grandes éxitos. I wish I could work on Soy cómo quiero ser, Busca una mujer, and 20 años, but I cannot find enough sources online about those albums. Cheers! Pining @Franlm14: to share the news. Erick (talk) 03:22, 15 October 2019 (UTC)
@Magiciandude: We don't have much sources for that era. I tried to find some sources to update the 20 Años, Romance and Aries Tour, but there is only a few newspapers archive public. Will see in the future if we can do something more. Thanks for all you work. Greetings Master! Franlm14 (talk) 08:13, 15 October 2019 (UTC)

Monitor Latino

Hi Erick, while using my noticed that some of the countries with Monitor Latino charts have both a general airplay and a general audience chart. I know that the airplay charts can be used but can we use the audience chart on wikipedia articles? FanDePopLatino (talk) 04:58, 20 October 2019 (UTC)

@FanDePopLatino: I think the Monitor Latino airplay charts should be enough. The audience chart would be confusing to readers as then you have to explain how that chart works. Plus we don't use audience for charts from other counties either. By the way, if you intend on improving articles about Thalia's albums from the '90s, check out El Siglo de Torreón. It is one of Mexico's largest newspaper archives. I also recommend El Informador, although there's currently no way link to any of the articles. Erick (talk) 11:47, 21 October 2019 (UTC)

Can this list be used?

Hi Erick I was looking through El Siglo De Torreon and found this: [2]. The list say they are from the countries themselves and not just their capitals. Can we use this as a source for charts? FanDePopLatino (talk) 07:11, 10 November 2019 (UTC)

Hi @FanDePopLatino:! For a chart to be suitable for Wikipedia, it needs two things: The methodology for how the charts get their data and news sources mentioning the chart. So we need to know who is providing the charts and how they get the information. Erick (talk) 16:36, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
Hi Erick, this newspaper posted the airplay list for latin american capitals in the 90's but in the 2000's they started posting airplay list for the entire countries. I know that the capital list they posted aren't not allowed to be used on a chart table because it's only for a single city so we use those on song article descriptions but the link I sent you is for an airplay list for the whole country so I was wondering if we could used it on the chart table itself or still just on an article description? FanDePopLatino (talk) 18:11, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
@FanDePopLatino:, Right, but the provider of the charts needs to explain how they're getting the data. We need a source that shows the methodology. That's the part we're missing. Erick (talk) 18:14, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
@Erick oh okay. So how could we get that information? FanDePopLatino (talk) 18:17, 13 November 2019 (UTC)

@FanDePopLatino: I've been trying to find out myself where the charts came from for years. All I know is that EFE obtains data from an unknown chart provider. Erick (talk) 18:31, 13 November 2019 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

  The Premium Reviewer Barnstar
Thank you for contributing to Jill Valentine's FAC. You probably had no idea of the sort of quagmire you were stepping into by reviewing Jill's article, but your uninvolved, unbiased critique was exactly what was needed: it genuinely helped clear the air surrounding the article of a lot of its toxicity. I can't explain in words in a barnstar of how appreciative I genuinely am. Just... thanks for all your help. And congratulations on your own nomination being promoted as well. ;) Amarte Es un Placer also gave me the inspiration to improve the article of another Spanish album I was concurrently working on. I've no plans on taking that one to FA or even GA (unless I can find a tonne more sources), but your work on the Miguel article definitely helped improve my work. So thanks for everything. ;) Homeostasis07 (talk/contributions) 02:21, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

@FanDePopLatino: Alternative album covers aren't generally included because Wikipedia tries to keep the number of copyrighted images to a minimum. Alternative album covers should only be used when it's notable like if the original album cover was censored. This includes album and live video albums as well. That's why Vivo (Luis Miguel album), an article I made Good Article a few years ago, only has the album cover and not the DVD cover. Erick (talk) 03:06, 7 February 2020 (UTC)

Revista Q (question)

Hi,

An user begun to use the Mexican Revista Q as a source in Paulina Rubio's articles but to my view this magazine doesn't seem reliable. Can you tell me something about it? In this link they even claimed that IFPI reported 1,250,000 copies sold of Paulina, something that never happened. When you have time answer me, please.--88marcus (talk) 20:06, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

@88marcus: That magazine is made by Paulina Rubio fans. It's not the same that said Valiente sold 800k, it's a magazine that always inflates sales for Paulina and provides fake certifications. I'm a fan of Paulina Rubio myself but I know for a fact that Nielsen Soundscan didn't count worldwide sales for Paulina's albums because they only do sales for the United States. If you look here and also here you will see how the magazine list sales that don't make sense because the company they say reported those sales don't count worldwide and I'm sure those Paulina albums from the 90s didn't sell those figures in the U.S. when they didn't even chart. I add charts and certifications to Paulina's articles but never use this magazine as a source because it's clearly unreliable but I see these sources in all of Paulina's albums. I don't usually revert edits like this to avoid edit warring but prefer to talk about it first because this magazine is getting out of control with the fake sales and certifications for Paulina. It's clearly made by a fan.FanDePopLatino (talk) 06:42, 11 March 2020 (UTC)

Help please

Hi Erick, I've been having some issues with a user named Walter Görlitz that keeps reverting my sourced edits and changes it to unsourced edits that don't even make sense. The problem is here. The official song was the one by Gian Marco and I provided a source for it but that other user keeps reverting my edits saying that the Stacie Orrico and Jessica Simpson songs were the official theme songs for the tournament when those songs have nothing to do with football and were released more than a year before the tournament. I don't want to have an edit war with him but he won't stop reverting my sourced edits that make sense for his unsourced edits that don't make sense and also keeps tagging Twinkle. Can you help me out please? I don't know how to go about this or who I should report this to. (FanDePopLatino (talk) 20:54, 18 May 2020 (UTC))

"Loco Enamorado"

Hi Erick - my apologies for removing the Latin music tag from this song... it was an accident, I was trying to add further tags, as I did on another of Mateo's singles, "Se Acabó el Amor", and obviously I managed to delete it instead. Sorry about that. Richard3120 (talk) 02:40, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

@Richard3120: It's cool man, accidents happen. I usually look at the Latin music quality logs everyday, so that's why I was confused when I saw it removed. Thanks for clearing that up and thank you for tagging the Latin music project on several articles. Erick (talk) 03:05, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

Prince Royce and "Carita de Inocente"

So good to see that Prince Royce's Alter Ego album continues to perform so great! I just noticed that "Carita de Inocente" is making records in the Tropical charts! Had no idea! Thanks for letting me know! Hope you're doing well during this crazy year. Bryan McLaude (talk) 04:32, 11 July 2020 (UTC)

@Bryan McLaude:, Sorry for the late response, been super busy last month. But yeah, it's been crazy with all that's been going on. On a positive side, "Carita de Inocente" is the now song the most #1 weeks on the Tropical charts. 20 weeks as of this comment! Erick (talk) 03:21, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

Billboard charts guide

Hi. I disagree with the changes you made to the Billboard charts guide for the various Latin airplay stations. The Hot Latin Songs and Latin Airplay should still be designated as the primary charts and other charts added to a song's chart section only if they didn't chart on either of these. The changes made by Billboard suggest each of Latin Pop Airplay, Latin Rhythmic Airplay, and Tropical Airplay are just sub-charts of Latin Airplay because they monitor the same exact radio stations using the same exact methodology so whatever the first Latin pop song is on Latin Airplay would be number one on Latin Pop Airplay, whatever the first Latin rhythmic song is on the Latin Airplay chart would be number one on the Latin Rhythmic Airplay chart. Before they measured airplay on different radio formats so the chart results came from entirely different sources. They are no longer independent charts with independent criteria. Thanks. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 21:30, 13 August 2020 (UTC)

@Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars: Oh hey there. First let me say thanks for copy-editing the articles about those Latin charts. So regarding the Latin charts, the reason I did those edits is because of how Billboard simply classifies any music in Spanish as "Latin", regardless of their actual genre. As you said, songs on those subgenres aren't independent of the Latin Airplay, but those are the charts that Billboard put those songs to fit in its actual genre. Plus Billboard has its own own Latin music awards with accolades for each for the Latin music genres. From my perspective as a reader, it'd be weird to mention a song that won "Regional Mexican Song of the Year" without seeing the actual chart, since the awards are based on how successful they were on the charts. Now of course I don't advocate adding the Latin Digital and Streaming Songs as well. That's just two cents, and if there's anyway we can compromise, then I'm all for it. EDIT: Maybe I could add a note on the "neither ranked on the Latin Songs or Airplay" for entries before they became genre-only? EDIT 2: I guess basically what I'm saying is that I think of the "Latin Airplay" as simply "Hot 100 Airplay" but in Spanish. And just like how airplay charts exists within the Hot 100 Airplay, the same thing happens with Latin Airplay. Erick (talk) 22:56, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
Part of the reason for having the chart guide is that too many charts end up getting listed, especially when you consider worldwide success. A song like Fútbol y Rumba is already shown as listed in 3 different Billboard charts with Bubbling Under, Hot Latin Songs, and Latin Airplay, so to list 5 makes the chart section a bit too US-centric (obviously, there are going to be many, many examples where this is the case for non-Latin songs, but the scope still remains somewhat limited by WP:BILLBOARDCHARTS). I see no problem if a song is ranked as the number-one song of the year on any of the Latin music charts and wins a Billboard award because of it to mention the fact within the article under a section for accolades or legacy or whatever. That's only going to apply to a select few songs per year anyway. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 01:35, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
@Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars: Yeah, I try to limit the number of Billboard charts myself when I'm working on song articles. I can see why it could bee seen as US-centric, though I also keep in mind that Spanish-speaking isn't homogeneous in the US, which is why these subcharts. I had a discussion on Record charts with Kww when discussing Regional and Tropical Airplay. Basically, top songs on those two charts barely overlap and they have both a more limited audience compared to Latin pop and Latin rhythm audience. The latter charts on the other hand, have songs that appear on both charts even right now. So here's what I'm thinking: We can keep the Tropical Airplay (especially since it's genre-only now) and Regional Mexican since they have a limited audience as discussed in 2011 and limit the Latin pop airplay and Latin rhythm airplay because they have an overlap. I think Latin pop and Latin rhythm can be used, but only if a song charts on one or the other, but not both. How does that sound? On a side note, I don't personally use the Latin Airplay, even if Billboard chart guide allows it. Erick (talk) 02:05, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
I'm good with the most recent changes you made to the Billboard charts guide[2], but I don't think you even need the notes about their use before or after certain dates. We can let that be under either methodology. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 22:30, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

@Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars: Sure that's fine. I'm just glad we were able to work something out. Erick (talk) 16:05, 16 August 2020 (UTC)

@Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars:, I was influenced by our conversation and decided to add similar rules to the Latin albums charts. What do you think? Erick (talk) 04:43, 24 August 2020 (UTC)

Billboard Latin

Hello!

I saw your edits on the Latin charts, can you explain how it works? So if a song has entered Latin Airplay we can't add Latin Pop Airplay or any of the other three? But before or after the dates? I don't understand what it means with the "only-genre" chart.

Kinds regards, MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 17:04, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

@MarioSoulTruthFan: See the above discussion I had with Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars. Long story short, the Latin Pop, Latin Rhythm, and Latin Tropical genre component charts based on audience. When I get the chance, I will bring it up on the record chart talk page. Erick (talk) 03:49, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
I read your discussion with Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars, thank you for helping out. I still have one doubt regarding Latin Tropical Airplay, before the revamp one could add it to "X" article as it was under Applicable US charts as Airplay only charts, correct? As long as the song was released before the revamp on August 21, 2017. How about "Latin Pop Airplay" can it be added to articles if they pre-date the revamp if they have entered the hot latin airplay? MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 10:41, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
@MarioSoulTruthFan: Honestly, I think the subgenere Latin charts should be used if a song charted on the Hot Latin Songs, but not the Billboard Hot 100. The reason I say that is because Billboard classifies any music in Spanish as "Latin" regardless of its actual genre. There's another reason, but I want to bring it up on the Record charts talk page to get consensus. Erick (talk) 14:56, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
I can see where you are coming from. I will try to see such discussion and share my opinion. Thanks for the info. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 19:54, 26 August 2020 (UTC)

@MarioSoulTruthFan: As promised, I've started a discussion on the record chart page. Also pinging @Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars:, @Richard3120:, @Brankestein:, to notify them about the discussion. EDIT: @FanDePopLatino:, @AJona1992:, also want to ping you guys to let you know. Erick (talk) 21:40, 7 September 2020 (UTC)

Vuelve (album) ref

Hi Erick; I just took a quick look at this article and noticed a broken reference; <ref name="Vuelvebooklet"/> is used twice but no reference of that name is defined in the article. Perhaps it's been removed or there's a misspelling somewhere; just thought I'd let you know anyway. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 05:14, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

90s Latin America charts

Hi, I just saw your edits on Vuelve (album) Can you help me to find Latin America charts for other Ricky Martin's 90s hits. (For example Livin' la Vida Loca and María) آرمین هویدایی (talk) 13:46, 8 October 2020 (UTC)

Hot Latin Songs

Sorry to disagree with you Erick, but Billboard's website under Hot Latin Songs still gives the formula "sales + airplay + streaming", so it's a given Latin Airplay factors into Hot Latin Songs. Even on the articles for specific songs when they reach number one on this chart are being reported with numbers for sales, streams, and yes, airplay.

I'd like to know however, where is this information of 'no airplay' on Hot Latin Songs being obtained? I've searched on Billboard.com and can't find mention of it anywhere.

Sincerely, Bryan McLaude (talk) 14:31, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

By the way, I've copied the Hot Latin Songs formula directly as it appears on Billboard.com and pasted it here for your observation:

"How This Chart Works Radio Airplay + Sales Data + Streaming Data = HOT LATIN SONGS"

Very clearly it states that radio airplay factors into Hot Latin Songs. Bryan McLaude (talk) 14:34, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

@Bryan McLaude: Oh yes, the Hot Latin Songs does factor airplay, but it's different from how the Latin Airplay chart does it. For the Hot Latin Songs chart, it includes any predominately Spanish-language song being played on any radio station in the US, making it audience based. The Latin Airplay however, tracks any song being played on Spanish-language radio stations in the US regardless of genre or language. The Latin Airplay chart doesn't have a linguistic requirement like the Hot Latin Songs chart does, making the Latin Airplay spin-based. See this discussion I had on WP:CHARTS regarding the Latin charts, especially on Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars's comments. It's also why both charts are allowed from October 2012 onwards. Erick (talk) 16:54, 26 October 2020 (UTC)

Oh, thank you for the clarification, Erick. This was enlightening. Bryan McLaude (talk) 17:03, 26 October 2020 (UTC)

@Bryan McLaude: No problem. Are you interested in creating an article for the Latin Airplay chart? Erick (talk) 17:51, 26 October 2020 (UTC)

I think I'd like to research it more prior. Clearly, I wasn't informed as I thought I was, haha. But maybe down the line, though. Bryan McLaude (talk) 19:12, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
