Hi, just a question about the Sanskrit text you added to the Sapta Puri article with this edit. I'm curious about where this is taken from (and I can't read the foreign-language source you've added). Vishnupad Mandir

I'd be interested to hear in what way you think this edit constitutes "disruptive editing". For the most part, I simply removed unnecessary piping, as well as making the article title match the first sentence, as per the MOS.

In reverting my edits, I can see you've reintroduced a number of errors, including restoring "Vishnupada Mandir" (which isn't the article name) in bold at the beginning of the article (I added the IAST, Visnupada, as an alternative form), as well as an incorrect reference to the "Brahma myth Brahmins" – a Google search for which turns up this page only.

Please explain your revert. I also think you should apologise for calling me a "disruptive" editor, which obviously isn't the case. Dāsānudāsa (talk) 12:16, 19 November 2020 (UTC)

@Dāsānudāsa: Basically Bhumihars are not "Brahma myth Brahmins' or not even Brahmins, they just claim that they are Brahmins. That's why i reverted your edits on that page. The origin of Brahmins ( irrespective of subdivisions among them ) is associated with Lord Brahma. So you should not add Bhumihar there without providing proper citations. @MRRaja001:OK. You should put that in your edit summary (instead of "Reverting back disruptive editing"), then, or only partially revert that change rather than the whole edit.

@245CMR: Yes, Goddess Durga is considered as Sister of Lord Vishnu, but is form of Lakshmi and is a Brahmacharini (a celebate goddess). In Mahabharata Lord Krishna himself said it to Yudhishtira to pray Durga as his "Bhagini" but the Durga who Krishna is referring to is not Parvati Durga, it is Lakshmi Durga, who is form of Lakshmi. Lakshmi Durga only came as the sister of Krishna in Dwapara Yuga. She is always considered as Brahmacharini. - MRRaja001 ^(talk) 08:28, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

Vandalism on Kalaripayattu

Hi,

For the past month some unknown user is continuously trying to vandalize kalaripayattu. Please go through the edit history, you can see how that unknown anonymous user is in edit war and vandalising the article.

The anonymous user 2409:4073:380:22F7:B8BC:C04E:4492:B679 has some pending edits on the same page now.

Please either block him or make the page protected only for extended confirmed users.

Page Kalaripayattu is being vandalising by some islamist groups. In order to divert the issue they have started caste divide among hindus by glorification of a specific caste on page. Caste vandalism and caste glorification should be taken down. It is done by the same vandalising group in the name of proxy caste names as to make believe that nair are vandalising the article, but actually not. Purandara Dasa

Came across this via its DYK. This requires a lot of work to reach WP:GA. The tone needs to more "encyclopedic"; sorry to say but it reads like "devotee literature". • A request for comment is open that proposes a process for the community to revoke administrative permissions. This follows a 2019 RfC in favor of creating one such a policy.
• A request for comment is in progress to remove F7 (invalid fair-use claim) subcriterion a, which covers immediate deletion of non-free media with invalid fair-use tags.
• A request for comment seeks to grant page movers the delete-redirect userright, which allows moving a page over a single-revision redirect, regardless of that redirect's target. The full proposal is at Wikipedia:Page mover/delete-redirect.
• A request for comment asks if sysops may place the General sanctions/Coronavirus disease 2019 editnotice template on pages in scope that do not have page-specific sanctions?
• There is a discussion in progress concerning automatic protection of each day's featured article with Pending Changes protection.

Technical news

• When blocking an IPv6 address with Twinkle, there is now a checkbox with the option to just block the /64 range. When doing so, you can still leave a block template on the initial, single IP address' talkpage.
• When protecting a page with Twinkle, you can now add a note if doing so was in response to a request at WP:RfPP, and even link to the specific revision.
• There have been a number of reported issues with Pending Changes. Most problems setting protection appear to have been resolved (phab:T273317) but other issues with autoaccepting edits persist (phab:T275322).

Arbitration

• By motion, the discretionary sanctions originally authorized under the GamerGate case are now authorized under a new Gender and sexuality case, with sanctions authorized for all edits about, and all pages related to, any gender-related dispute or controversy and associated people. Sanctions issued under GamerGate are now considered Gender and sexuality sanctions.
• The Kurds and Kurdistan case was closed, authorizing standard discretionary sanctions for the topics of Kurds and Kurdistan, broadly construed.

Technical news

• Wikimedia previously used the IRC network Freenode. However, due to changes over who controlled the network with reports of a forceful takeover by several ex-staff members, the Wikimedia IRC Group Contacts decided to move to the new Libera Chat network. It has been reported that Wikimedia related channels on Freenode have been forcibly taken over if they pointed members to Libera. There is a migration guide and Wikimedia discussions about this.

Arbitration

• After a Clarification request, the Arbitration Committee modified Remedy 5 of the Antisemitism in Poland case. This means sourcing expectations are a discretionary sanction instead of being present on all articles. It also details using the talk page or the Reliable Sources Noticeboard to discuss disputed sources.

• Consensus has been reached to delete all books in the book namespace. There was rough consensus that the deleted books should still be available on request at WP:REFUND even after the namespace is removed.
• An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.

Technical news

• IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.

Arbitration

• The community authorised COVID-19 general sanctions have been superseded by the COVID-19 discretionary sanctions following a motion at a case request. Alerts given and sanctions placed under the community authorised general sanctions are now considered alerts for and sanctions under the new discretionary sanctions.

@Skyerise: How is it in any way related to Page Mover rights. We can move pages even without page move rights. Lalita Tripura Sundari is the actual name of the goddess and present in most of the popular references, you can check them here. The fact that it was almost immediately reverted shows that it is a controversial move. So the "used in controversial ways without consensus" above would apply. Proper process would have been to open a requested move discussion, wait until it is closed, then implement the consensus. @Skyerise: Adding different name is controversial. Adding a full name of a deity is not controversial. But we have already discussed it on the talk page. They told the reason for maintaining the name Tripura Sundari. They said that popular authors such as S. Shankaranarayan, Kinsley, Frawley mentioned only Tripura Sundari in their books. @Skyerise: there's nothing wrong with making a BOLD move that's reverted so long as it isn't a habit and the person thought it wouldn't be controversial. Moves are subject to WP:BRD as well. The move has been reverted, now if MRRaja001 wants to do so, they will need to start an RM. I don't see the need to remove page mover, especially as it was requested for NPP/AfC things.

MRRaja001, I will say this, however, basically anything involving religion or ethnicity in India/South Asia is going to be controversial, including moves. Save yourself and everyone the user talk discussion and start an WP:RM first next time. TonyBallioni (talk) 13:25, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

Hello MRRaja001,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

• Following a discussion at the Village Pump, there is consensus to treat discord logs the same as IRC logs. This means that discord logs will be oversighted if posted onwiki.

• DiscussionTools has superseded Enterprisey's reply-link script. Editors may switch using the "Discussion tools" checkbox under Preferences → Beta features.

Arbitration

• A motion has standardised the 500/30 (extended confirmed) restrictions placed by the Arbitration Committee. The standardised restriction is now listed in the Arbitration Committee's procedures.
• Following the closure of the Iranian politics case, standard discretionary sanctions are authorized for all edits about, and all pages related to, post-1978 Iranian politics, broadly construed.
• The Arbitration Committee encourages uninvolved administrators to use the discretionary sanctions procedure in topic areas where it is authorised to facilitate consensus in RfCs. This includes, but is not limited to, enforcing sectioned comments, word/diff limits and moratoriums on a particular topic from being brought in an RfC for up to a year.

Miscellaneous

• Editors have approved expanding the trial of Growth Features from 2% of new accounts to 25%, and the share of newcomers getting mentorship from 2% to 5%. Experienced editors are invited to add themselves to the mentor list.
• The community consultation phase of the 2021 CheckUser and Oversight appointments process is open for editors to provide comments and ask questions to candidates.

Number of Principal Upanishads

Hello! I noticed that you had made many edits to the Principal Upanishads article, previously named Mukhya Upanishads. I was wondering what your opinion was on the number of Principal Upanishads to include in the article. Although there are many sources that state there are 13, there are also some that only acknowledge only 10. I would like to expand the article and was going to ask many significant editors of the page for their opinion before making any edits. @Raps19: Principal Upanishads are only Ten. Adi Shankara and Madhvacharya wrote commentaries on only Ten Upanishads. The other Upanishads which some people are claiming to be written by Adi Shankaracharya was not true and in dispute. According to our main Acharya's it is 10, if new scholar's make it 12 or 13 we cannot do anything. You can expand the article but the fact is Ten Upanishads are Principal Upanishads. Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be repeatedly reverting or undoing other editors' contributions at Advaita Vedanta. Although this may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is known as "edit warring" and is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, as it often creates animosity between editors. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to lose their editing privileges on that page. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, and violating the three-revert rule is very likely to result in loss of your editing privileges. Thank you. I appreciate that you haven't reverted three times, but the 3RR is a limit, not something you're supposed to aim for. The person making the changes, if reverted, must seek consensus for them. Hello, regarding the recent edit dispute on the page, I've few points to discuss - As per article, the statement is - " Whenever Vishnu descended on the earth as an avatar, Lakshmi accompanied him as consort, for example as Sita and Radha or Rukmini as consorts of Vishnu's avatars Rama and Krishna respectively." There are three important information in the statement - 1) Statement mentioned the prominent avatars of Lakshmi. 2) Statement mentioned the consort of Lakshmi and her avatars. 3) The chronological order in which her avatars appeared as per the timelines mentioned in various scriptures. Now, directly coming to point, Rukmini is not mentioned before Radha because of the timeline of avatars. Radha is mentioned with Krishna in Vrindavan leelas which happened way before than the Dwarka leelas where Rukmini is mentioned. Similarly like when we mention avatars of Vishnu, its Rama whose name come first than Krishna based on their timelines or the name of Parshuram comes way before than the name of Rama even though they shared the same time period for sometime. Now, the second point regarding the consort of Krishna - I think it was once discussed on the Krishna's page also where u deleted name of Radha from consort list in Infobox. But, never mind, there are multiple research papers and books which mentioned Radha as Krishna's consort for which please check wikipedia of Radha where almost all sources are arranged and organised properly. Regarding the married consort theory, first the disputed statement do not specifically talk about the married consort. So, considering it for writing the sequence of avatars is not a good idea. Statement simply stated "consort" to present the neutral point of view. Because, in many section Radha is worshiped as lover consort while in many others she is worshiped as wife of Krishna including Swaminarayan and Radha-vallabh section. Just to avoid this POV conflict and maintain neutral POV, word "consort" is used. I hope somewhat I am able to clarify the reason behind my edit on the disputed statement. @Kridha: First of all, Sita is avatar of Sri form of Lakshmi and Rukmini is also avatar of Sri form of Lakshmi. This is mentioned in all scriptures including Lakshmi Tantra. But Radha is also the form of Sri Lakshmi. Multiple scriptures including - Bhramvaivarta Purana, Garga Samhita, Gopal tapani upanishad, Narad Purana, Padma Purana, Narad panchratra etc mentioned her as avatar of Sri Lakshmi. She is as equal and as significant as Sita or Rukmini. Then what's the reason behind skipping her name between Sita and Rukmini. Her timeline lies just in middle of these two avatars. Rukmini is the primary queen consort of Krishna in Dwarka. No doubt about it. My objection was never about that. Confusion arises when we talk about the consorts of Krishna in general or avatars of Lakshmi because different scriptures present different informations. @Kridha: All consorts are not Lakshmi incarnations. Only Rukmini and Satyabhama are incarnations of Sri and Bhu forms of Lakshmi and the remaining all are apsaras and have small amsha of Lakshmi devi. This is the reason why only Rukhmini and Satyabhama are worshipped along with Krishna throughout South India, Maharashtra and Gujarat. - MRRaja001 ^(talk) 06:30, 21 December 2021 (UTC)

What you stated can be categorized as a regional POV. In South, it might be Rukmini Devi who is worshiped as the avatar of Shri Lakshmi but in North and East, it's Devi Radha who is worshiped as Shri Lakshmi along with Krishna. In Barsana and pushtimarg tradition Devi Radha is addressed as Shriji. Coming to Gujarat, presently the scenario is completely changed after the foundation of Swaminarayan Sampradaya and Pushtimarg. Pushtimarg focuses mainly on Vrindavan leelas. In Pushtimarg temple, it's Devi Radha and Yamuna Devi who are mainly worshiped as the main goddesses with Krishna. They preach about Yamuna Devi as she is the guru of that tradition and worship Radha and Krishna in form of Swamini ji (Shriji) and Thakur ji(Shrinath ji) as the eternal divine pair. Even in Dwarkadhish temple in Gujarat, there is a separate alter of Radha Krishna just in front of central alter of Dwarkadhish. The idol of Devi Radha is also present with the idols of goddess Jambavati, Satyabhama, Kalindi in the seperate consort room of the temple. Rukmini devi's idol is not present anywhere inside the main Dwarkadhish temple. Her temple is situated two kms away from Dwarkadhish temple because of the curse legend. Apart from Pushtimarg, it's Swaminarayan section who is practically everywhere in the Gujarat. They are the dominating Vaishnava tradition in the entire Gujarat and they preach and worship Krishna with Radha as Radha Krishna Dev. The third Vaishnavism section emerging in Gujarat these days is Gaudiya Vaishnavism in form of Iskcon temples. Presently, almost all major and minor cities of Gujarat is having Iskcon temple. Being from this state, I have presented the exact scenario of Vaishnavism in Gujarat. You can cross verify from wherever u wish to. Rest in North India and Eastern India including Rajasthan, UP, MP, Delhi, Haryana, West Bengal and Manipur, it's Radha who is worshiped with Krishna as his consort. So see there is a crystal clear contrast on the question of Krishna's consorts and Lakshmi's avatar. People in different regions have different ideas and conception regarding the avatars of Lakshmi and consorts of Krishna. Out of many Vaishnava traditions active in North, East and West (Gujarat) , I included name of only these traditions because according to my understanding they are the most active, prominent, influential and have quite wide reach among common masses compared to other regional traditions active in Northen and Eastern part. They have set up hundreds of temples not only in India but also on international level and have a large community of their own. Many important and ancient temples in Gujarat, North and Eastern India are administered by them. Rejuvenate WikiProject Skepticism

Hello - my name is Susan Gerbic (Sgerbic) and I'm writing to you because at some point you joined Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism. This might have been months ago - or even years ago. With the best of intentions the project was created years ago, and sadly like many WikiProjects has started to go dormant. A group of us are attempting to revitalize the Skepticism project, already we have begun to clean up the main page and I've just redone the participant page. No one is in charge of this project, it is member directed, which might have been the reason it almost went dormant. We are attempting to bring back conversations on the talk page and have two subprojects as well, in the hopes that it might spark involvement and a way of getting to know each other better. One was created several years ago but is very well organized and a lot of progress was made, Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism/Skeptical organisations in Europe. The other I created a couple weeks ago, it is very simple and has a silly name Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism/Skepticism Stub Sub-Project Project (SSSPP). This sub-project runs from March 1 to June 1, 2022. We are attempting to rewrite skepticism stubs and add them to this list. As you can see we have already made progress.

The reason I'm writing to you now is because we would love to have you come back to the project and become involved, either by working on one of the sub-projects, proposing your own (and managing it), or just hanging out on the talk page getting to know the other editors and maybe donate some of your wisdom to some of the conversations. As I said, no one is in charge, so if you have something in mind you would like to see done, please suggest it on the talk page and hopefully others will agree. Please add the project to your watchlist, update your personal user page showing you are a proud member of WikiProject Skepticism. And DIVE in, this is what the work list looks like [1] frightening at first glance, but we have already started chipping away at it.

The Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism/Participants page has gone though a giant change - you may want to update your information. And of course if this project no longer interests you, please remove your name from the participant list, we would hate to see you go, but completely understand.

(talk page stalker) This page was on my watch list probably because I had posted a message here. @Jonathansammy:, I agree that the dispute should be mentioned but the 'Deshastha Brahmin' page probably should only mention the issue summary and the final outcome(for example: Peshwa's challenge was dismissed by Brahmin scholars). The dispute will probably have many details. Probably best suited for gramanya page instead of the main caste page. What do you think? This dispute is different from the Shenvi(GSB) vs Brahmin dispute or Sonar vs Brahmin dispute where the all the Brahmins(Karhade, Deshastha and Chitpavan) were united against these communities. In this Deshastha case, I assume the only people challenging their Brahminhood might be the Peshwa and some of his Chitpavan yes-men. Hence adding all the details of the dispute will clutter the deshastha page IMHO. Just got the source for the Sonar dispute and it is 30 to 40 pages! • An RfC is open proposing a change to the minimum activity requirements for administrators.

Technical news

• Access to Special:RevisionDelete has been expanded to include users who have the deletelogentry and deletedhistory rights. This means that those in the Researcher user group and Checkusers who are not administrators can now access Special:RevisionDelete. The users able to view the special page after this change are the 3 users in the Researcher group, as there are currently no checkusers who are not already administrators. (T301928)
• When viewing deleted revisions or diffs on Special:Undelete a back link to the undelete page for the associated page is now present. (T284114)

• Voting for the Universal Code of Conduct Enforcement guidelines has closed, and the results were that 56.98% of voters supported the guidelines. The results of this vote mean the Wikimedia Foundation Board will now review the guidelines.

Gopal Hari Deshmukh

Hi, Deshmukh was the title of the family.The actual surname was Sidhaye which should make him Kokanastha.A generalization, but in the early period of British colonial rule during the 19th century, I don't see many deshastha at the forefront of the social reform movement, or the nationalist movement.Thanks. @Jonathansammy: Marathi language citations are allowed but the citations which are telling him as Deshastha are University of California Press, and other prominent publication houses. So, in order to fix this we should add citations which are of similar reputation or popular University press books. I'll try finding them. Unfortunately, apart from serious academics, very few people care about what brahmin sub-caste a person belongs to, and therefore it will be difficult to get a reliable source in English on this topic. Until then, I don't think we should have him on either the Deshastha or the chitpavan list.
