Some bottom templates for you

In case these evaded you:

--Gonnym (talk) 15:13, 23 February 2020 (UTC)

@Gonnym: A lot of those I didn't know about!
I have been taking it slow and steady with this campaign. These templates have been around for a while, and I don't want to introduce a sudden change all at once but let people get used to it gradually.
A few of those, like Fa bottom, I know I have to be cautious about because bots read them, too. Alternatively, others are used by specific sets of users who might get upset if they're template doesn't get discussed separately. My next nom, as a result, will probably be the remaining low hanging fruit: {{Discussion centralize bottom}}, {{Closed-bottom}}, {{TAFI Nom Bottom}}, {{Poll bottom}}, {{Rfcn bottom}}, and {{Discussion bottom}}.
The crat ones have to probably be discussed as their own group, and I can do {{Bot bottom}} with {{DRN archive bottom}}, but I think {{Afc b}} and {{Fa bottom}} will need their own discussions just be safe (since external things might need to be changed).
Either way, thank you a ton for letting me know there were more of these than I anticipated!  MJLTalk 15:30, 23 February 2020 (UTC)

Image refinement

Hello, could you please enlarge the image of Bart Cummings o the article page, it doesn't do the article justice, ragsrds. Someone stated that this article a disambiguation link was not needed, John Tarrant, actor from TV series A Country Practice, as the before said, (Tarrant), doe's not have a liked article about him. I Think i may be right because heaps of others article's are written as such, example, Paul Allen, American businessman and co-founder of Microsoft, the disambiguation page (dab) has as Paul Allen (no article on this individual), founder Ancestry.com. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.43.35.147 (talk) 11:04, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

Hello, also to add please add infobox for Joseph A. Cannon, thank-you, regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.43.35.147 (talk) 03:20, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
Hello, did you receive my meessage, signing is by a signbot, regards— Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.42.102.44 (talk) 11:33, 28 February 2020 (UTC)

(3) could you please correct footnote added to page List of longest-serving soap opera actors, i think they are ot letting you add notes to a article now, without also having an inline citation or references, regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.42.102.44 (talk) 13:20, 28 February 2020 (UTC)

I think the footnote there is fine. Someone will eventually add a citation there unless you can let me know where you learned that fact lol –MJLTalk 02:06, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
Hello, how are you, didn't know if you receieved my message./s, hopeyou are well!!!, could you also please add a infobox for the legedary Don Burrows — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.42.102.44 (talk) 08:41, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
I have good news, and I have bad news. The good news is that I am running for office again, but that is also the bad news because that has now taken me away from Wikipedia for the last few days. –MJLTalk 02:06, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
I'm going to get started on all this right now. –MJLTalk 02:06, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
Infobox added and image replaced. The John Tarrant seems to be taken care of without my input needed. –MJLTalk 03:22, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

Hello, that is good you are back in office, very happy for you , thank s for the picture added, glad you are fine, how did you go with the picture of Queenie Ashton, also infobox f or Don Burrows, annd Owen Weingott, can please add, kind regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.42.102.44 (talk) 07:10, 2 March 2020 (UTC) sorry i forgot can also add infobox for Erika Berger, regards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.42.102.44 (talkcontribs) 13:41, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

WikiCup newsletter correction

There was an error in the WikiCup 2020 March newsletter;   L293D should not have been included in the list of top ten scorers in Round 1 (they led the list last year), instead,   Dunkleosteus77 should have been included, having garnered 334 points from five good articles on animals, living or extinct, and various reviews. CWI

No objection to your reversion of my edit [1]. But if you look at the CWI website, https://www.socialistworld.net/ you will see it is getting regularly updated with substantial content. These updates do not happen without people actively writing the articles and uploading them. I therefore do find it hard to accept the assertion by a rival group that this organisation no longer exists. As Mark Twain wrote "The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated" ابو علي (Abu Ali) (talk) 13:06, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

@Abu ali: Despite having no stake in the matter personally, I've been following this controversy rather closely. By all accounts, this organization has dissolved, splits up, and/or renamed. When a nonprofit organization becomes defunct, its assets generally get distributed to like-minded persons if it has no outstanding debts. A website, like anything else, is merely another one of these kinds of assets.
Another example would be the split which happened to UNITE HERE (which didn't dissolve or rename; but did split). One side got to keep the website while another side got the Amalgamated Bank.
That's just how these things work. –MJLTalk 15:12, 4 March 2020 (UTC)
The organisation clearly did split in 2019. And this was not the first split. The article talks of splits in 1990s and in 2001. This seems to be a pattern with Trotskyist organisations. I have not seen any evidence that it dissolved. It appears to be carrying on, albeit with fewer affiliated national groups. ابو علي (Abu Ali) (talk) 15:42, 4 March 2020 (UTC)
@Abu ali: This split, unlike all of its previous splits, caused it to rename and restructure. The latest split is completely unique in that regard.
While it might be the same organization in principle, for the purposes of discussion and our coverage it might as well have restarted.
Case in point, Russian Social Democratic Labour Party (Mensheviks). –MJLTalk 15:53, 4 March 2020 (UTC)
Only one of the components renamed. The other retained the name. This also happened in the 1990s when one of the factions renamed to be the International Marxist Tendency. ابو علي (Abu Ali) (talk) 16:57, 4 March 2020 (UTC)
@Abu ali: International Marxist Tendency never claimed to be CWI. They straight up left it and made something else. The two situations are not comparable. If anything, IMT's history has more in common with how International Revolutionary Left formed. –MJLTalk 20:34, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

Hello, MJL,

This article was created by User:Tayi Arajakate who is a sockpuppet of User:Pali Upadhyay. That was a valid tagging. Liz Read! Talk! 05:48, 5 March 2020 (UTC)

@Liz: I disagree that the user is a sockpuppet per my comments here. The user was on a different range, so there was behavioral evidence needed. That evidence ended up amounting to there was some overlap in the articles they've edited despite having very different editing patterns. –MJLTalk 05:51, 5 March 2020 (UTC)

NRA presidents FLC

Hey MJL, just letting you know I'm opposing, with regret, the NRA presidents FLC, for reasons I've explained in depth at the nomination page. I hope you don't mind too much; you've clearly put in a ton of effort into researching an incredibly large and well-referenced list, and if it doesn't pass now I'd love to see a new and improved version in the future. – Teratix 12:39, 9 March 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for the move

Looks like I couldn't even place the thread in the right place.

If you want to offer any thoughts either here or AN that's fine any chance to learn something new is good. I don't really plan on offering a defense other than that all edits should stand and fall on their own merits, and not the merits of the people behind them, but I have a feeling that will go over like a lead balloon. I did see an opportunity even in mistake to show that IPs can be accountable and even hold themselves accountable for actions that would otherwise go unnoticed. Really there were 3 options, start self-reverting and get blocked for modifying archives when my only explanation was "I don't think there's a problem with these but someone else probably does", do nothing and shirk responsibility, or report myself and get told to modify archives, I chose option 3.

Things are kind of free-form over here the basic idea is to demonstrate that IPs are capable of making good-edits even in complex circumstances, in this case it backfired, but may be salvageable. I tried a little bit of the same with MFD, but even with much accumulated advice to read and draw from I doubt they're much good (the AFD % correct on the matrix for all our IPs is very high but I made none of those edits, those are all or almost all the work of one specialist).

So I'm actually a little busy today IRL, but I'll pop in and out as I wait for the discussion to wind to its inevitable conclusion. I will explain my decision-making further if asked, but otherwise I doubt more engagement on my part would be welcome. 2604:2000:8FC0:4:68BA:3B32:8613:8B6D (talk) 13:58, 12 March 2020 (UTC)

Hello, MJL

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Sam-2727 and it's nice to meet you :-)

I wanted to let you know that I’ve proposed an article that you started, List of Intel Pentium M (Yonah)-based Xeon microprocessors, for deletion because it meets one of the relevant criterion. The particular issue can be located in the notice, that is now visible at the top of the article.

If you wish to prevent the deletion:

  1. Edit the page
  2. Remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. Click the Publish changes button.

But, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the raised issues. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Sam-2727}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Hello my friend

Hi - How do I clear this message from my page? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Green_(comedian)

"This article may have been created or edited in return for undisclosed payments, a violation of Wikipedia's terms of use. It may require clean-up to comply with Wikipedia's content policies. (March 2019)"

I'm not sure why it's there? I have been verified as... being me, unfortunately no one pays me to be me... but one can dream.

RickGreenHasADHD Howdy hello! MJL is away, but hopefully I can help. I have at any rate swapped the Paid editing template for a Conflict of Interest template. The situation doesn't appear to have paid editing. But since you are the subject, it is a conflict of interest as we define it. If I have some time, I'll look through the article and try to make sure its neutral, and then remove the tag. From that point forward, the best bet to keep the tag off the article is to not edit it directly, but instead make edit requests on the talk page, which an experienced editor can then help implement in a neutral manner. Its a bit unwieldy I understand, but it is the method we've come up with to ensure that articles can't be accused of having bias. From what I see, the page really isn't a problem, but I'll give it a look through. The best way you can help the article remain neutral is to find good sources (such as newspaper articles) and put them on the talk page so that they can be used to improve the article. As a side note, I absolutely loved watching the Red Green show back in the day, it really is a small world after all :) Smooth sailing, CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 23:07, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

WikiCup 2020 May newsletter

The second round of the 2020 WikiCup has now finished. It was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 75 points to advance to round 3. There were some very impressive efforts in round 2, with the top ten contestants all scoring more than 500 points. A large number of the points came from the 12 featured articles and the 186 good articles achieved in total by contestants, and the 355 good article reviews they performed; the GAN backlog drive and the stay-at-home imperative during the COVID-19 pandemic may have been partially responsible for these impressive figures.

Our top scorers in round 2 were:

  •   Epicgenius, with 2333 points from one featured article, forty-five good articles, fourteen DYKs and plenty of bonus points
  •   Gog the Mild, with 1784 points from three featured articles, eight good articles, a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews and lots of bonus points
  •   The Rambling Man, with 1262 points from two featured articles, eight good articles and a hundred good article reviews
  •   Harrias, with 1141 points from two featured articles, three featured lists, ten good articles, nine DYKs and a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews
  •   Lee Vilenski with 869 points,   Hog Farm with 801,   Kingsif with 719,   SounderBruce with 710,   Dunkleosteus77 with 608 and   MX with 515.

The rules for featured article reviews have been adjusted; reviews may cover three aspects of the article, content, images and sources, and contestants may receive points for each of these three types of review. Please also remember the requirement to mention the WikiCup when undertaking an FAR for which you intend to claim points. Remember also that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
