Chicago Bridge and Iron Company

edit

Where can I find out about Chicago Bridge and Iron Company, if it was in fact taken over by Praxair (why should I take your word for it), it had a history of its own prior to that. I cannot understand why Wikipedians must redirect pages when it is possible to leave the page as is and just link pages. The Canadian division of Chicago Bridge and Iron Company, in Fort Erie, Ontario, built many of the steel water towers used when (Canadian National Railway) ran Steam locomotives, however, Praxair didn't build any such thing, so now it is impracticable to link water towers.W W 05:14, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Long term I'd like to write an article about this company, as it's fascinating. You can go to their site and see for yourself, Praxair divested them (Praxair really only wanted their subsidiary Liquid Carbonic, is how it was explained to me by people who worked for CB&I) and they are independent again. If you think the redirect is a bad idea, do a stub there instead. Their site is locatable via a Google search ( [1] ). I don't blame you for not believeing me, but I do believe you'll find it's true. (this section of the corporate history on the CB&I site in particular details the purchase and spin off). I do agree that water towers and Praxair don't at first seem to have much to do with each other. Hope that helps. ++Lar: t/c 11:16, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Can you help Lar? --kingboyk 18:41, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

"Can you help Lar?" ... No, I'm afraid Lar's beyond help. :) Er... more seriously, I can deliver it, if the membership list is shipshape but I don't have bandwidth to do content this month. It looks like you have a good start? ++Lar: t/c 19:05, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Heh, very droll! What are you, the punctuation police? :) --kingboyk 19:03, 17 April 2007 (UTC) PS Please check your inbox, I'm sending you an email about non-wiki stuff.Reply
No this month, no. :) More seriously, I'm not sure what is up with the newsletter... my time seems taken up by so many other things these days... what needs doing? More seriously still, answered your email offline. ++Lar: t/c 19:18, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Haven't received it yet... might be worth sending again. Will answer other things later. Cheers. --kingboyk 19:37, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes you did. :) ++Lar: t/c 20:10, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I suppose it just needs the placeholder items inserted, and delivery. No rush. Also, we seem to have been hemorrhaging members of late... should that be mentioned? Do we have anybody left to deliver to?! :) --kingboyk 13:17, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Lots of members still on the list but some of them may well just be flag collectors... not a lot of forward motion on the project or so it seems. But that may be the life cycle of projects, eh? I myself don't have much time to devote to it other than just delivering the newsletter itself. You DO realise that the way it was a few days ago it was an April Fool's joke? That's probably not suitable to use as a basis, it's well past 1 April now. But maybe it changed. ++Lar: t/c 23:36, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
A joke's a joke. I've been wanting to do WikiProject The Rutles for some time, and now that there's a WikiComic too... :) --kingboyk 11:30, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ah. Well carry on then. ++Lar: t/c 12:00, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you could check any changes since my final revision, give it any last polish it needs, and send it out please, Mr Postman. Thank you! --kingboyk 20:59, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

It may be a bit before I get to it but I will try. Have the membership rosters been updated or should I just run with the old ones? ++Lar: t/c 22:40, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hey, look, we have a pretty big membership list, why don't I ask a proper bot to do it? I got the WPBio newsletter delivered yesterday, I can ask the same guy. I think we've probably outgrown manual delivery :) --kingboyk 22:49, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
That would be good. I just use AWB... The bot needs to handle the link only 1 or 2 and the few that don't want anything. It won't be able to do the pruning and "this may be your last one" thingies that I do but I could use that hour or so (about what it takes me each month) to do something else. Thanks for suggesting it. ++Lar: t/c 03:21, 26 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Agree. Your system was a bit too complicated imho for a volunteer bot op to be asked to follow it, so I've trimmed it down to "membership list minus exclusions". I'll take care of the special delivery requests myself. Now off to find a friendly bot op... :) --kingboyk 12:40, 26 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes... way way enough. What is baffling me is that I thought I had blocked account creation from that IP. I added the Arigato1=Klovn note to the CU request. ++Lar: t/c 22:53, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

The Edits of User:Sleep On It (contribs) seems a bit peculiar to me.

  • The account have exsited for four days.
  • Its only contributions is voting.

Hi... for faster response you may want to mention it on the Admin noticeboard for incidents. I looked briefly at the edits and agree that it's odd that this account is not doing anything other than commenting. I'd keep an eye on it, were I you, and note on a few of the votes that there is a pattern so that closing admins are aware and may choose to take that into account. That's probably the extent of what the appropriate response is at this point. I myself may not have time to look too deeply though. Which is why I suggested AN/I. ++Lar: t/c 23:34, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Huskarl

edit

I may not be a cherished user such as Valentinian, so I don't expect you to help me out, but user:Huskarl is engaging in the same kind of edit warring as we know from Arigato1 and Comanche cph.--Holger the Dane 15:48, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

"may not be a cherished user" ?? Valentinian has a longer contrib record than you but I'm happy to help you, as best as I can. Preliminary investigation shows a suspicious pattern of simmilarity in edits to Arigato/Comanche to my eye. Could you email me a translation of what he said on your talk page ([2] and the next few edits) and what you said back? Arigato had a pattern of leaving insults in Danish, I want to know what that stuff says for reference... thanks! Oh and I asked for a CU informally. Same guy. Blocked indef. ++Lar: t/c 18:05, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hi Lar. Just noticed this post. Arigato1's post on Holger's page is not insulting. It simply states: "I presume you're Danish. First, I'd like to say that there was nothing called Denmark, Norway or Sweden [at this time]. AFAIK, Harald Hildetand was not mentioned as king of Jutland (what later becomes part of Denmark)." The first sentence breaks off a bit abruptly and there is a typo. Otherwise nothing interesing. Cheers. Valentinian T / C 18:48, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
OK thanks!... check your mail as well. ++Lar: t/c 18:52, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Done. You've got mail. Valentinian T / C 19:10, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

News Time

WikiProject The Beatles Newsletter
Issue 012 – April 2007

Beatles News
  • On Friday 30th March, a deranged fan was held after attempting to force his way into Paul McCartney's mansion. See here for more details.
  • Apple Corps continues to make news, after the recent settlement with Apple Computer over the use of the Apple trademark. On April 10th, the company announced that long-time chief executive Neil Aspinall had stepped down and had been replaced by American Jeff Jones. It was also announced that another long term dispute, this time with EMI over royalties, had been amicably settled prior to Aspinall's departure.[3][4]
Project News
  • The article "Jeff Jones (music industry executive)" suddenly becomes of top importance in the Apple sphere of Beatledom. User:Kingboyk has created a stub on the man, but the article needs urgent beefing up (including basic biographical data such as date and place of birth) and, if possible, a photograph of the new Apple chief executive.
  • With the debate over "the Beatles" vs "The Beatles" continuing to cause ill feeling and a number of resignations from the project from advocates on both sides, Kingboyk attempted to diffuse the situation by blanking the Project Policy page and tagging it as {{historical}}. Although this unilateral action hasn't been reverted as of the time of writing, the reaction was mixed, with two members rejoining the project and others stating their disagreement. With the issue still not resolved, the page was sent to Miscellany for Deletion, for the wider community (and WikiProject The Beatles members) to consider the issue.
Member News
  • The membership list has been trimmed, with inactive members listed seperately to help gauge the status of the project. If you've been incorrectly listed as inactive, please don't be offended - just move yourself back to the main list.

Coaching

edit

HI Lar, I've just responded to you at User:Akradecki/Admin coaching, but wanted to drop a note here as well. After mulling over what you said about time committment for the last week, and especially with the huge hole in the Aircraft project that user:Chrislk02 has left now that he seems to be gone, it seems that there's an even greater need for an additional hand, regardless of the time sacrifice issue. Therefore, I'll put aside my other projects for now and concentrate on this, if you have the time and willingness to help me get up to speed. Akradecki 22:09, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

You forgot to put a code letter for this checkuser case. Real96 21:39, 30 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Was surprised that a code letter was needed, as the first case did have one, and it seemed like more of the same and archivable to boot... Also, it wasn't my case originally, I was just adding information. Case has been archived now so no worries. ++Lar: t/c 12:57, 1 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
