Adoption?

edit

La Pianista, would you perhaps consider adopting me? I am but a new user, and know not what I do. *sigh* Actually, that's a complete lie. *cheeky grin* I know perfectly well what I'm doing and how to do it. However, I would appreciate some basic tuition. I'm sure there is stuff out there (or here, more like it) that I've still got to learn. And I think you would be the perfect editor to teach me. While you may not be an admin {yet}, and haven't exactly racked up a huge number of edits in the project namespace, you are dedicated and have a sense of humor. And believe me, that counts for something. So, what do you say? Elucidate (light up) 08:47, 6 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sure, I'd be glad. But...ouch, telling a user they're not in the mainspace often is just so noobish...
Jk! :) What do we mean by "tuition" here? You obviously have got a hang of wikimarkup, but I suppose you mean basic policies and guidelines, correct? —La Pianista (TCS)
Let me elucidate (excuse the pun). By project namespace I mean the Wikipedia namespace, not the article namespace. Not being noobish at all. Your contributions say it all. And as for tuition, I doubt there is much you can teach me about policy, let alone markup. Nice welcome template, if I may say so myself. Personalized, I take it? No, I don't need help in any of these areas. I'm not 100% on some of the obscure policy, but I'd rather not game the system and prefer to simply ignore all rules. However, I'm sure there must be something you can teach me. I just don't know what. I'm not exactly your average newbie, that's all. Perhaps you can think of something? I'm open to options and suggestions. Elucidate (light up) 10:10, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Just the type of newcomer I like. Welcome to my world, kiddiez! :D :D :D
You're not the average newcomer, eh? Well then, this won't be your average course. Entirely adoptee-centric. Tell me what you would like to know (or, conversely, what you don't think you know). Or, is this a stupid question because you don't know what you don't know? —La Pianista (TCS) 22:02, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Commendable. You've hit the nail on the head. Elucidate (light up) 14:35, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hm - well, besides writing articles, are you interested in collaborating and making decisions? Perhaps, if you have a good ear, you'd like to contribute at WP:FSC? Or at WP:FPC and WP:FAC? I see you're already helping out at WP:MOTD/NI.
And then you can help out at WP:RD. Whichever you like - we have to start somewhere. :) —La Pianista (TCS) 19:14, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sounds good. See Wikipedia:Valued pictures for some of my work. Elucidate (light up) 20:09, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I said I might be an admin. Note the "...yawn." ;) But, my opinion on it is pretty volatile (perhaps to Ed, I myself might be the epitome of volatile), so sometimes I might like the idea of it, other times not so much. —La Pianista (TCS) 19:07, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Poor Ed...watchin' her go... I can't elope with my piano...you stole that, maybe my violin? IceUnshattered [ t ] 20:23, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Violins? What? They aren't good lovers at all. Pianos - strong, reliable - wonderful tone and colorful range. They're independent, too - they'll stand on their own three legs. —La Pianista (TCS) 22:00, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Never could choose between my violin n' piano... definitely better than flutes, though. IceUnshattered [ t ] 22:12, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

(denting Pianista's piano) Trumpets are so much better. Who better to lead - the trumpet is stong and confident when belting out the melody while the bloody pianos and weak violins play in the background!
And a re to Ice three lines above...I felt like Tom Hanks watching Cathrine Zeta-Jones come back to him in The Terminal....but then realizing that she was going towards her loser government-boyfriend-dude to make out with him. —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 22:50, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Didn't someone tell you to call me Icy? Geez. Anyways, no idea about the Terminal ref. Huh, annoying trumpets. Blaring their hearts out, no emotion, no dynamic range. Say that the bloody awesome pianos and violins are weak, but geez- they actually sound like music, yeah. IceUnshattered [ t ] 22:52, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Daniel Barenboim, Martha Argerich, Arthur Rubinstein, Vladimir Horowitz, Krystian Zimerman, Radu Lupu, Yundi Li, Lang Lang, Stanislav Bunin, Maurizio Pollini, Dang Thai Son, and last but not least, La Pianista. —La Pianista (TCS) 06:46, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Meh - trumpets could never match pianists in numbers becuase the piano has been around for longer...but the trumpeters' quality is higher. One of them can even sing, too!! :D —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 06:54, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Huh, yeah, right. IceUnshattered [ t ] 14:54, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I dont like playing a violin, the piano is better.--What!?Why?Who? (talk) 19:23, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

-sobs quietly- Piano is awesome, but to never indulge in the graceful whispers and fiery fortes of violins? How? How? IceUnshattered [ t ] 01:47, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
But why even attempt at using string instruments to reach upper registries when you know that a piano will always carry the high C for you? Besides - think about it: Pianos - the dark, musty type. Not bulky, but reliable. Dark, moving, passionate. —La Pianista (TCS) 02:53, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

What I mean is that a single piano has more range and more notes can be hit at the same time. Also, I dont like to play the violin, I didnt say it was a bad instrument, just the piano's better:-P--What!?Why?Who? (talk) 05:20, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

We know, WWW. That's why the piano pwns all else. —La Pianista (TCS) 05:57, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
(Per above comment) Violin can be just as "dark, moving, and passionate" as a piano. Have you never heard Monti's Csardas? Sunshine on Tashkurgen? No matter what style, it always sounds beautiful... I so honestly cannot decide whether I prefer violin or piano -buries head in hands- IceUnshattered [ t ] 16:45, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sleeping. Online. Offline. How do you do that? Is there a special code or something that you have to enter or what?? TopGearFreak Talk 16:15, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've got a really complex code to do it. You can copy it - just type Magic words are "in" for online, "out" for offline, "busy" for busy, and "sleep" for sleeping. Be careful not to capitalize any of those, or else it'll malfunction.
If you want to customize the code, it's here:
<div style="right:10px; display:none;" class="metadata topicon" id="featured-star"><div style="border: 0px solid black; background: transparent; float: right; position: relative; top: 0px; padding: 5px">
<span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS">Status:</span> {{ #switch: {}
| in=<span style="color: green;"><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS">Online.</span></span>
| out=<span style="color: red;text-decoration:blink"><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS"> Offline.</span></span>
| busy=<span style="color: gray;text-decoration:blink"><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS"> Busy.</span></span>
| sleep=<span style="color: orange;text-decoration:blink"><span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS">Sleeping.</span></span>
}}
</div></div>

<div style="right:10px; display:none;" class="metadata topicon" id="featured-star"><div style="border: 0px solid black; background: transparent; float: right; position: relative; top: 10px; right: 140px; padding: 0px"><small>(purge status)</small>
</div></div>
Yah, it's confusing at first, but play around with it for a while, and you'll get the hang of it. Cheers! —La Pianista (TCS) 19:22, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

You don't need to copy the entire code; you can just transclude it. Type two curly brackets around anywhere on your userpage, and it will work. ;)

I'll mention you in my speech when I get a WikiOscar (?) for 'Best Funny Page', I swear. ;D TopGearFreak Talk 17:43, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Wow. So many replies, so little time...
Answer No. 1: Um...no.
Answer No. 2: "Purge status" allows anyone to refresh the page. So, if someone saw your page while it said "offline," for example, then you changed it to "online" while they were reading it, the reader can click purge status and see the changes. You don't have to press it, yourself - it's for the convenience of your userpage visitors.
Answer No. 3: Sure! Would you like it to match your sig, or should it have a design of its own?
Answer No. 4: Yes, you may. All is free-license, GNUDFL, whatever. Have fun with it! :) —La Pianista (TCS) 19:03, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I try. My vocal cords are strained from screaming too much at my old high school's football game on Friday...We are in the third round of the playoffs!
