Asian Latin American edit

Hi, LaNicoya. In the body of the article you indicated that there are 8000 Asian Nicaraguans, but in the Composition box you entered 16000 (8000 Japanese and 8000 Chinese). Was it by accident? SamEV 20:17, 8 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

LaNicoya 01:56, 9 February 2007 (UTC) Yeah. Sorry i didnt know how to distribute the numbers. 8,000 was a couple years back but it was 8k for all Asians.Reply

Apology edit

I apologize for labeling your edit to Afro Latin american as valalism, but you now know that the links were not correct. I half suspected you made an error based on the other contributions you'd made to wiki, but one can never be sure.

One thing I did note, however, in your other edits is that you haven't become accustomed to entering anything into the edit summaries. These comments are very useful to other editors, and give a clue to what your intentions were. If you make an error, but your summary indicates that your intentions were positive another editor might even make the correction if they know enough about the subject. --JAXHERE | Talk 13:19, 13 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • My mistake. I should've checked before editing. I will enter summaries from now on, i'm still new to all this.

The user had not been warned for his personal attacks and for removing comments. I will put the Nicaragua article on my watchlist. If he violates policy again, let me know ok? Your VandalProof Application edit

Dear LaNicoya,

Thank you for applying for VandalProof! (VP). As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 version has even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that at this time you do not meet the minimum requirement of 250 edits to mainspace articles (see under main here). Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again soon. Thank you for your interest in VandalProof. Daniel.Bryant 02:47, 26 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi there. This isn't really vandalism. If the user has been reverting repeatedly, you might report it at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/3RR or involve the Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee. Hope this helps. TimVickers 03:06, 28 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sitsi (talkcontribs) 03:51, 3 April 2007 (UTC).--Sitsi 03:54, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bird lists edit

The lists were produced from a script with a bit of manual input here and there. You'll probably see some errors, but I figured it was easier to correct some oddities than have to do the lists from scratch. Cheers, Yomanganitalk 17:28, 1 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

You should put it up as a featured list candidate once you've finished adding the photos. Two others I nominated look like they'll pass and they are pretty much the same text with some photos. Yomanganitalk 00:30, 2 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Alphabetization edit

It's a pretty minor thing, I know, but are you sure about your re-alphabetization of the Nicaraguan writers in List of Latin American writers? To take one example, Emilio Alvarez Montalván suggests that this writer is referred to as "Alvarez" (which is after all a common Spanish-language surname), yet you've listed him under Montalván. --Jbmurray 07:48, 16 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

No problem. I'll go in and change back. Incidentally, it seems as though you're doing a fine job on Nicaraguan-related articles generally. --Jbmurray 08:21, 16 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Analysis of your deletion edit

Relax: The warning states for the next time you will be blocked, please examined the time of the reversion and the time in which your last warning was applied. It took almost all day. Since you have apologized, I am explaining you this.

There was a discussion about it, and you know if something like this, for whatever reason, would had happened with any content or Patriotic symbols of your country as it is the National Flags and Coat of Arms, you would have acted the same and even more promptly. Therefore, as you love and respect your country and want your country be respected in the world and in Wikipedia, as you need to be very careful when you impulsively decide to do some of your editions. It is very understandable and very sensible information and images for not having enough care. Try to delete the United States Flags or England’s and you see what I mean.

I assume your good faith but in this case, you need to agree with us, that what you did by deleting a Flag and Coat of Arms, given your experience in Wikipedia seems as act of vandalism. You knew and know that there are talk pages, you could alert or write something before you just act and judge something as biased. By explaining and clarifying everything can be fixed, i.e. collaboration, it takes time but always works. For instance, there were some comments made about it and some discussion took place, as you can see in the talk page of the List of Peruvians page.

Far away from wishing you or doing something wrong to you, I am making a waking-up call. I need to let you know that I acknowledge the fact that we all make mistakes no matter what we are humans collaborating voluntary in the “Wiki Way”, aren’t we? Neglecting is one of the worst sins, because you can hurt a lot of people with only one tiny little action, and any of this is "revertible" at all. Therefore, I am taking my time to ask for you awareness over this sensible areas, I hope you will treasure it somehow. Therefore, lets continue, I know that you will not do such a thing again, and that next time you will suggest changes or indicate mistakes with respect and without hurting the feelings of any one because, we do not need to bite new users you can be surprised by how fast they do learn. Let us cooperate for that “next time”.

Deleting entries from your talk page is not a positive action either; you cannot hide diffs as I cannot reverse this last warning to you. I know that for the profound respect and love that you seem to be professing for your country, you will not do it again, either intentionally or unintentionally. Please have a good edition time.

The whole event is not a big deal in anyway other than if it were to be escalated by a repetition or by other vandalic activity from another user encouraged as a result of your deletion, thing that I doubt it very much to happen, but it is plausible to consider its possibility to occur. Anyway, I thought important to give you an analysis because the transparency of your presence on Wikipedia demanded. Enjoy the journey. -"-Todos Llegan de Noche, todos se van de día" 00:41, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

List of schools in Costa Rica edit

Hi. Just to let you know that I took the speedy tag off this article since it is part of a series which has been through AfD, and been decided as "kept" together. I guess I should try to dig out the list of schools by country AfD and put it on all the relevant pages but I think once it has been through AfD even as a list it becomes ineligible for SD (the AfD has to be repeated). Not that there is any way on earth you could tell this by looking at the article of course.--BozMo talk 14:46, 20 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Grammar and spelling edit

Would you please refrain from Americanizing Commonwealth spellings? It is not necessary. Wikipedia accepts both conventions. Wikipedians are free to write "colour", "neighbour", "honour", "travelling", "metre", "worshipper" and so forth. By the way, spelling and grammar are two very different things. Link to TicosLand.com edit

I got this message:

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Costa Rica. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policy for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. LaNicoya •TALK• 03:34, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Guanacaste Province article edit

I saw your contributions to the Guanacaste Province article. There you added: "The Guanacaste province belonged to Nicaragua during the Colonial period. It wasn't until after the nations of Central America gained independence from Spain that it was annexed and incorporated to Cost Rica on July 24, 1825". That's partially true, because today Guanacaste province includes the cantons of Bagaces, Cañas, and Tilarán (of those, Tilarán didn't existed in Colonial times because it was part of Cañas, dunno about Bagaces). The point is that it wasn't the Guanacaste as exists today that was annexed to Costa Rica, the territory annexed was called "Partido de Nicoya" and it didn't include Bagaces, Cañas and Tilarán territories. You have a lot more experience gathering sources and improving articles than me, so I ask you to please check out on this issued. Thanks =) --T0rek 07:19, 15 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

List of Latin American writers edit

Hi, I reverted your change to this page re. Belize, and tried to explain why on the talk page. I don't think it's a biggie, and I quite see your point in suggesting that Belize is a Central American rather than a Caribbean country. Of course, however, in fact it's both. And my suggestion is that culturally it's (perhaps marginally) better to think of it as the latter rather than the former. --jbmurray (talk|contribs) 09:17, 31 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Panama economy edit

Percentages are different depending on each site, if you look in La Prensa in a google search engine, you'll find that percentages have changed, also, Nicaragua, el salvador and other countries have higher income inequality levels and more poverty and they don't have a poverty section, we just don't want to give people a bad look of Panama, if worser countries does not have poverty section, why should panama have one if it talks in a kinda obscuring way, note that the CIA speaks sometimes of comparison or estimates to larger countries, not the exact info, and La Prensa is a 100% Panamanian source so you should trust more it than the CIA factbook. 201.218.81.108

Chile is not a 90% white country. The Chilean census merges "White, and Mixed Aboriginals" into the same category. Independent studies like the source you deleted previously, put the number at around 30% of the population.

The official Chilean government statistics department (from where the CIA factbook gets its data), combines the mestizo and white categories into one:

Panama edit in External Links edit

Hi Lanicoya, Just wanted to leave you a note about an edit you did on the Panama page on the new section about Search Engines I added. Did you remove it because there the section is not allowed or for another reason? Would it be possible to leave it in there? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Magamaga (talkcontribs) 01:34, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your prompt reply LaNicoya. I just read the guidelines what to avoid linking on number 10, but I interpret it to be say linking to a result from a search engine. I understand that link to be unreliable because the content might change and thus really means nothing to the readers. The link I added was made to a site that exists to provide information and serves as a Search Engine only for information about Panama. All of the results a user may get after entering a search string will be for information about Panama only. After this explanation, do you think the link and subsection to the External Links should stay? Magamaga 12:19, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Edit on Caliche- El Salvador edit

I edited the article on caliche because I felt that the examples given portrayed it in a negative light, as they were vulgar slang. There are many examples of other caliche words that are used in normal speech. The list I inserted gave many such words. I think that these should replace the current examples in the article, so that it doesn't portray caliche as nothing but vulgar slang. I would like for my changes to remain or, at least, to be included in the original article with the mention that caliche is not all vulgar. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Anaiglesias (talkcontribs) 04:26, 27 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

FL Main page proposal edit

You either nominated a WP:FLC or closed such a nomination recently. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 1 2007, voting starting December 1 2007 and main page appearances starting January 1 2008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual content will resemble the current content at the featured content page. Such output would probably start at the bottom of the main page. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. Right now debate seems to be among support for the current selective democratic/consensus based proposal, a selective dictatorial approach like that used at WP:TFA or a non-selective first in line/calendar approach like that used at WP:POTD. See the List of the Day proposal and comment at WP:LOTDP and its talk page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 19:28, 13 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Featured List of the Day Experiment edit

There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. You may submit multiple lists for consideration.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 17:55, 16 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
