Links edit

Make sure you link to pages not just type in text for your prospective projects - if there isn't a page yet made, link to something similar and write a sentence afterwards about what your ideas are about it. Also, don't set us up the bomb. Debaser42 (talk) 16:07, 15 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Your ideas look good for the project. However, keep in mind to make sure you're looking at a communicative event, and something specific enough so that it already isn't taken up. You'll get some more ideas when you go poking around for academic research - head over to http://scholar.google.com and start searching for college marketing or brands. Think about what it is that interests you about these topics (eg: how it effects college consumption of products? - if so, which ones?). This will help you make your topic more manageable for the project. Debaser42 (talk) 02:15, 17 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

IRC follow on edit

You left the irc before I could post a reply to a valid question regarding copyright violations and close paraphrasing. I wanted to post those comments here, since they were for your benefit. You gave an example of original text as:

Recent years have seen a boom in the youth marketing industry. Since the 1980s, an increasing number of advertising, marketing, and consulting agencies have emerged, providing psychological and anthropological insight into the behavior and attitudes of young people. Clearly they have been successful in increasing marketing efforts. For example, in 1992 corporations were spending about $6 billion ...

Followed by:

Recently the youth marketing industry has seen a boom. This has been happening since the 80’s and increasing number of advertising, marketing, and consulting agencies have emerged providing tests that give insight into the behavior of young people. Clearly these efforts have been successful. For example in 1992 corporations spent $6 billion ...

as a example to compare. This was suggested to be perhaps leaning towards to close of a paraphrase to qualify as original. I did my own version of a paraphrase that I believe would move sufficiently away from the original, to qualify as "free text" (unencumbered):

Recently the youth market industry has increased. From 1980, advertising, marketing, and consulting agencies have increased as well. They provide insight regarding the specific behavior and attitude of young people. The success of their marketing efforts is measurable, and indicate a successful trend. For example, in 1992 corporations invested nearly $6 billion.

I hope this serves helpful to the spirit of your question, and related endeavors. If I can further assist, of course I am available for that purpose. Best My76Strat (talk) 05:30, 23 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
