I see that you recently moved NEST (pensions) to National Employment Savings Trust by copying and pasting the contents of the article, because you were prevented from moving it properly by an edit filter. Unfortunately such copy-paste moves are not acceptable, as they lose the edit history, which must be kept for copyright attribution reasons. I have repeated the move correctly, so there is no problem now. However, in future if you are prevented from moving a page please ask for help, rather than copy-pasting yourself. Edit Filter Report edit

Hiyas Kitfaaace,

I saw that you made this report at Wikipedia:Edit filter/False positives/Reports and i thought it might be a good idea to explain the reason why you were suddenly unable to move pages. What happened was that you were blocked by an Edit filter (to be more precise, filter 68) , which limits the amount of page-moves a relatively new account can make in a certain amount of time. If a user passes the threshold a report if filed for administrative attention, with the user being unable to move pages for a short while.

This filter is in place to prevent page move vandalism, a form of vandalism where someone creates a new account and starts moving as many pages as possible at random. The filter is an effort to minimize the possible damage this form of vandalism could cause, at the cost of a false positive like this every now and then. I hope this explains, and with kind regards, Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 18:48, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Page moving edit

I am copying this from my talk page, as it seems more useful here. JamesBWatson (talk) 09:31, 17 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hey, sorry about the copy/paste move for the NEST article. I tried to move it, but there was already an article with this name. And then I tried to move that article, but it just made another redirect! And then I read the article on how to "merge" articles, and it just said to copy and paste anything missing from the one you're not keeping to the one you're keeping, so that's what I did. If you let me know how you restored the history, I would be very grateful, so I didn't make the mistake again. Kitfaaace (talk) 20:11, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

If there is not already an article there then there is normally no problem, unless there are particular reasons, as for example in the situation described above by Excirial. However, if there is already a a page where you want to move another one to then the move can only be done by an administrator. However, you can ask for an administrator to help by tagging the page that is in the way of the move. At the top of the page add {{db-move|page to be moved|reason}}. This will ask for an admin to delete the page so that the other one can be moved there. If you do this, though, please do give a reason: it is not helpful to an admin to just say you want the page moved and not explain why. JamesBWatson (talk) 09:31, 17 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
By the way, going back top another point in your post, if you do a copy-paste merge you should state in your edit summary where you are copying from, so that the edit history can be seen if necessary. JamesBWatson (talk) 09:34, 17 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ah, yes. I did that. I put the same reason in the edit summary of both pages. But I might not have made it clear. Kitfaaace (talk) 12:48, 17 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing. OhNoitsJamie Talk 16:01, 2 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

I don't feel the level 3 warning was the place to start here. - Purplewowies (talk) 18:30, 2 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
