Sorry to say, but I believe this image fails fair use requirements. First off, you need the actual fair use template on the page along with the justification, but that's a small thing. Reading from Wikipedia:Non-free_content#Images_2 however: "A magazine or book cover, to illustrate the article on the person whose photograph is on the cover." Actually, that's criterion 8, and it doesn't apply here, as I haven't used any cover images or copyrighted portions of other images (this isn't like an SI cover or something like that). The most pertinent criterion under the "Unacceptable use" section here is "Images 12", which states that "for some retired or disbanded groups, or retired individuals whose notability rests in large part on their earlier visual appearance, a new picture may not serve the same purpose as an image taken during their career, in which case the use would be acceptable". I trust your judgment, Stax, and if you think it's not going to fly, then by all means nominate it for deletion. I happen to think that it meets all 10 of the fair-use criteria and would be validated under the above-mentioned criterion, as Caballero's notability is strongly linked to the fact that he was the youngest player ever to appear at third base (as per the DYK) and that his picture shows him at that point in his career. As to the template: I didn't see one on any of the other fair-use baseball player images I viewed, but I may just not have been looking in the right place. I figured it out. I had misunderstood that Orioles signing. Back then (and perhaps still now, the source for the 06-11 agreement says you get one for first and second rounders, doesn't mention supp. round) you didn't get compensation for supp. round picks. Cole Hamels

Help me out here because I think pointing out the ways Hamels was basically the same pitcher is important.

Is the problem the inference made from the stats being written instead of them merely being put down for the reader to infer for themselves what they mean? Because it's not like there's any support given for why wins or ERA should be put down.

The guidelines at WP:UNDUE are pretty clear, particularly "in determining proper weight, we consider a viewpoint's prevalence in reliable sources, not its prevalence among Wikipedia editors or the general public". "Prevalence in reliable sources", in this case, means the presence and usage of the statistic within the entire body of reliable sources (including books, websites, etc.), not just within sabermetric sources. DIPS is not a fringe statistic. All the major sabermetric sites include their own variants, and the ideas behind DIPS form an important part of the analysis done at those sites. Those include Baseball Prospectus, The Hardball Times, FanGraphs, and Tom Tango's blog (an offshoot of his book which is currently #5 on Amazon in the area of baseball statistics). Even ESPN (which is a mainstream as it gets in American sports) includes content from the likes of Tango and Baseball Prospectus...some of which includes DIPS. Great, revolutionary research has been done in this area in the last decade, and it is most certainly not placing undue weight to include DIPS in a baseball article.Mickeyg13 (talk) 03:03, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

Pirates 1890

From the 1942 Sporting News Baseball Guide: "No Smoky City club ever had a nickname until 1890. Then the team, which lost 113 games while winning only 23, was tagged the Innocents -- apparently being innocent of victorious aspirations. In 1890, during the off-season, Pittsburgh owners signed second baseman Louis Bierbauer, whom the bankrupt Athletic club of Philadelphia had forgotten to reserve. The Pittsburgh club became known as the Pirates, in reference to so-called "pirating" of players." That was obviously not their own nickname, but some sort of media tag. Those were unofficial nicknames anyway - as were most of them originally. If the nicknames stuck around and became synonymous with the team, then they became official. "Pirates" started out as what the Athletics and/or the Philadelphia newspapers called them, and it not only stuck, it rendered "Innocents" or "Infants" obsolete as a nickname. Tom Gordon

Well technically I didnt change anything in the article to say he is retired. I just added his last MLB appearence which can easily be removed if he signs with a team, which at 42, coming off poor play and injuries is doubtful. Hi there. Why I added this photo to the article is because you disregard the files uploaded to the Commons. You've uploaded many files to the English language Wikipedia so far, and I've moved those to the Commons. If you upload this photo to the English language Wikipedia, it will be a waste of time and effort. So I added it to let you know that you don't need upload this file to the English language Wikipedia. On this occation, I say that you should upload files to the Commons.

Incidentally, I request you to delete File:BrandonWebb.jpg. I had uploaded File:Brandon Webb bunting.jpg to the Commons on October 28, 2009, already. The rationale you just provided for replacing a superior image with a decidedly inferior one (because I upload images here rather than to Commons) is a poor one at best. My uploading of images here rather than at Commons has nothing to do with the quality of images available. Users are not required to upload at Commons, and since I only rarely visit Commons, I do my uploading here.

On another note, I would appreciate it if you scaled back your accusatory tone ("I say that you should upload files to the Commons"; "You should take responsibility because you uploaded the duplicate image") and belittling of others' work ("it will be a waste of time and effort"). Everyone has different ways of operating, and one way is not better than the other, so please respect the work of other users.

As to the Brandon Webb image, I can't delete it without discussion, as it's not a bit-for-bit copy (I happen to prefer the uncropped version, which is why I uploaded it to begin with). KV5 (Talk • Phils) 11:47, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

I usually consider SSUR to be authoritative as a secondary source, as they're dedicated to the very purpose of defining a team's colors, and that page does a good job of breaking it down by what's a uniform color, what's temporary, what's commemorative, what's a logo color only, etc. As to a primary source from MLB, that likely doesn't exist, but the shop claims to sell products in the "official team colors". That's probably the best we can do, then, short of placing a phone call to the team itself. Alternative uniforms are often not necessarily the team's colors, and road uniforms typically include a predominant gray or similar color that's certainly not a team color. It's possible the sort-of-cream color uniform was adopted as an occasional "throwback" reference to the 1960s. They wore that on opening day, and wore solid blue shirts the next day. Today it's bright and sunny at Target Field, and the Twins again are wearing those off-white or cream-color uniforms. I've got a hunch we're going to be seeing those more often than just an "alternate". It will be interesting to watch and see. Game just ended, with another Twins win, and if they keep playing this well they will probably end up on the cover of Sports Illustrated, which should bust their balloon.
