Recent edit reversion

In this edit here, I reverted some information that appears to be a violation of our copyright policy.

I provided a brief summary of the problem in the edit summary, which should be visible just below my name. You can also click on the "view history" tab in the article to see the recent history of the article. This should be an edit with my name, and a parenthetical comment explaining why your edit was reverted. If that information is not sufficient to explain the situation, please ask.

I do occasionally make mistakes. We get hundreds of reports of potential copyright violations every week, and sometimes there are false positives, for a variety of reasons. (Perhaps the material was moved from another Wikipedia article, or the material was properly licensed but the license information was not obvious, or the material is in the public domain but I didn't realize it was public domain, and there can be other situations generating a report to our Copy Patrol tool that turn out not to be actual copyright violations.) Hello

I'm trying out my first edit for this site New Tehri.

I understand I violated the copyright policy, since some of the content I provided was obtained from a site.

I Now have rewritten the paragraph, and there should be no copyright issues.

This New Tehri, really new updated information. There's no mention of the new things happening in that area, so I want to help.

I do see that my edits are now clocked, the edit option is not showing up on the page at all...

Tehri Dam was not classified/categorized in this list, having it categorized provides more of a quick/rapid listing.

I really don't have any opinion on deletion, if it gets deleted, I will be able to categorize with the next best category available.

Hi Karunpuri. Thanks for the response. I would like to help but I'm not sure what the next best category available would be. The tallest dam in the world Jinping-I Dam is simply categorized at Category:Dams in China, so that would suggest Tehri should be in Category:Dams in India...and it actually already is! It is correctly subcategorized at Category:Dams in Uttarakhand. (See WP:SUBCAT) Also, there is no suitable category within Category:Lists of tallest dams as that's a list category and should contain only lists.

I supposed there may be an argument for having categories in the form Category:Tallest some structure by country, where the scope is the tallest of a given structure for each country, but there seems to be no existing examples. --DB1729 (talk) 02:35, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

I'll make an edit and remove Tehri Dam from the Category:Lists of tallest dams.

Question :

Tehri Lake, which is the reservoir of this dam, is the biggest lake in the state with a surface area of about 52 sq kms, but there's no Wikipedia page/article on this lake.

I'm working on my sandbox to create this page/article?

If you have time, could you please advise, if this new page is justified and I should be working it or not....

Yes, exactly!. Many people confuse categories with lists.

A Google search on Tehri Dam Reservoir returns some hits, which is good in establishing notability. Some of which look like they may be reliable sources, but not sure. You might also be able to scrounge some sources from the Tehri Dam article if they have information on the reservoir. Looks like you already have some sources, and they may be ok, but again it's not my area of expertise.

The quality of your sources and the extent at which they cover the reservoir are the most important factors in establishing sufficient notability of the subject. You got a good start, and it always helps if you can find one or two more, good quality sources, if possible. Good luck! DB1729 (talk) 03:19, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

Hope you are doing well.

I understand you've reverted my edits on India's 75 year celebrations (called Amrit Mahotsav), I do understand your copyright concern, but this topic is about government sponsored events and all I'm doing is mentioning and citing what government plans to do on those events.

It's like US celebrating 250 years of Independence, and the Federal Government hosts some exhibits and shows to commemorate these events, their will be some communique via a website from Washington DC. These would obviously be coming from government website, I don't think we should change these, these should be presented as is...I shouldn't change what govt wants to showcase and celebrate?. It should be presented as is, other wise, they'll (Government) be like why have you changed what we planned??

I was referring a government website, and all content was from the special website govt has created for this celebration...

Maybe I'm wrong, but wanted to give me story....

Hello! I just wanted to reach out and say that I reverted your edit on the Rishikesh article because you had used another Wikipedia article as a source for the information you added. According to WP:WPNOTRS Wikipedia articles aren't considered reliable sources because "Wikipedia employs no systematic mechanism for fact checking or accuracy. Thus, Wikipedia articles (and Wikipedia mirrors) in themselves are not reliable sources for any purpose (except as sources on themselves per WP:SELFSOURCE)."

It might be helpful to read through Wikipedia's policy on reliable sources, which I've linked here, since using/citing reliable sources is an important part of building the encyclopedia. "Fixing" spelling mistakes

Hello, I just noticed that you edited the Dehradun article on 19 August 2022 with an edit description of "Fixed many spelling mistakes". In the edit, it seems like you've changed all valid international spellings to their US spelling counterparts. Not only is this against WP:ENGVAR, but it's inappropriate for the article and context. India uses international English, as does basically every other English-speaking country in the world except for the US, which largely has its own spelling conventions. So if anything, it's the US spellings that are wrong, not the rest of the world's, and you've broken rather than fixed what was already correct. As such, please undo all of your changes in that edit that relate to spelling matters, and keep the policy above in mind for your future edits. Getsnoopy (talk) 04:49, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
