HEY!!

Nice to see you, i would love some copy editting help, its a shame it isnt quite strong enough yet but im glad the article has improved, lol at one point i seriously thought it could have lost its GA statues. If you could help i would appreciate it, its a gruelling task though. The Thriller album is REALLY close now aswell. Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 00:53, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

I'll try to go through both Thriller and MJ sometime tomorrow, but now I have to do some homework…see you soon. --Kakofonous (talk) 00:55, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
Thankyou for getting back in contact with me, i look forward to your contributions shortly. Also put Daara J up for GA again in the next month, its got lots of potential. Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 00:59, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
No i havent a clue, maybe the server is backlogged, try making a test edit on the article, when i do copy edits i always do a section at a time and always copy the new text before saving so that its saved on my mouse. Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 19:49, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
Take your time it must be bloody annoying. Ive replied to the talk page as well. Regarding length, i dont think thats a problem, it used to be 125,000 bytes before I got my hands on it, now its only 90,000 thankfully. Take it slow section at a time, always copy the section before you save aswell, incase your work gets stoped by an edit conflict. I noticed you put an article up for FA , BEST OF LUCK!!! Hope you get it. Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 20:23, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

So, what do you think of the Thriller article? And thankyou for looking over it. ;-)Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 22:04, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Is it ready for FA ?, Be honest, its ok, i dont want to stick it up if its not ready and watch it get battered. Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 22:11, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
OK, ill let it have one more copy edit, there is a guy who will on the weekend, then, hopefully it will be ready. Ive put articles up for GA at the moment so dont want to over streach myself. OMG, i got rollback rights today! Finely some good news. Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 22:21, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

OMG, lol i seem to be me causing you the most trouble over at your adminship page, is there anything i can say to help? Doesnt the barnstar i gave you above prove enough that you can get over disputes? Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 23:19, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
You're not causing trouble, it's just that someone wanted a clearer explanation on what I had said about little dispute. Thanks for the offer, though. (: --Kakofonous (talk) 21:17, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
OK, but only if your sure, if you need anything give me a bell, youll be a great admin. Since your copy edit of Thriller ive added a new section called "Themes" per the peer review. I know your rather busy right now with your adminship and Gil but if you have time could you copy edit this section. Its not long, once i know how its going to look ill fully source it. If your busy i understand. Adios ;-) Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 23:53, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

New Project

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 17:39, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Gilberto Gil

Yes, of course. I just meant the article can still be given some room to grow. Sorry if it came across as critical (nonconstructive, that is :) I guess you've pretty much exhausted English-language sources, huh? Fvasconcellos (t·c) 20:47, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Didn't seem critical (constructive or otherwise), I just didn't understand what you meant. Exhausted, definitely—wish I spoke Portuguese, trying to learn. (: --Kakofonous (talk) 20:50, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Heh. Thanks for this, by the way; I didn't realize the other refs didn't have padded parameters. I quite like using the {{pt icon}} template family in references, though; I think it helps set foreign-language sources apart :) Fvasconcellos (t·c) 20:55, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Hmm. There is some useful stuff in it, but it's a master's thesis (actually, it appears to be an article presented at a conference.) so I'm not sure about WP:RS status? There are dozens of books out there on the subject, so I'd try to steer clear of lower-quality sources for the moment; sorry if I seem to be placing all the burden of research on you :D Fvasconcellos (t·c) 13:41, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Hey there, I tried looking for some print sources today (I'm attending the same university Gil did) but unfortunately the library's online catalogue was off the air. I'll try to find something tomorrow in person. I'll keep you updated Acer (talk) 22:50, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! --Kakofonous (talk) 21:17, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Ok, First the good news is that the library does indeed have books on him, see here, the bad news is that I dropped by and none of them were available, though the staff couldn't tell me why. I'm going to go there again next week and see if they got an answer (hopefully the books will be found). Now if you click on the book titles on that page I linked, they provide little notes on the topics of each work. As I suspected, some of them are literary commentaries of his lyrics which are treated as poetry. This, I believe, is a major angle of analysis that is missing from the article and that is preventing it from being comprehensive. I know this must be frustrating for you since Portuguese sources are beyond your reach but I think the best course of action if I can't get the books by next would be to withdrawn the nom until we can get them from somewhere else. (My sole GA Granat is about a Russian space telescope and I don’t speak any Russian at all so I certainly sympathize) Acer (talk) 19:43, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

(outdent) Thanks for your efforts! I got a few books from an online order and some more are coming from an inter-library loan, but that will take a while. When I have a good chunk of time (probably on Friday), I will add info from Caetano Veloso's autobiography (one of the books I got), which has quite a bit of stuff as they were and are close friends and collaborators. I'll also see what Google has to say about his lyrics; thanks for the feedback on stuff to add. (: --Kakofonous (talk) 21:56, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Good to hear you got the book (and I like the additions you made to the article, looking good), I have some very good news on this end too. The librarians managed to find the books for me, I've got three of them and they seem promissimg. I'll be busy this week but I'll try to read them by the weekend and if all goes well, to start adding content next week. Acer (talk) 21:07, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Writing a small essay in response, stay tuned. --Kakofonous (talk) 01:30, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
While writing answers to the questions (primarily as an exercise to determine whether or not I was going to go for it), a thought came to me: if it is definitely true that I would be unlikely to use the tools often (true, as you pointed out in the nom), or really even at all, is saying "no big deal" essentially the same thing as "no big deal, let's give some recognition for work well done"? I wouldn't use this as an oppose rationale (indeed, I never oppose RfAs—I figure it's mathematically not worth my time to compose a paragraph-long piece of reasoning which would almost certainly be responded to by a zealous nominator or indignant admin hopeful), but it does seem pointless to start a process like this if we both knew from the outset that it was not terribly important in the first place. So I'm curious, aside from WP:DEAL, why do you think I need the tools? If it's no big deal, it's no less of a deal to not do it than it is to do it. --Kakofonous (talk) 01:38, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
That's the point (what's the point? - bear with me...). Firstly, you don't deny that you wouldn't use the tools often, right? Good, so we're on the same step here. The purpose, the original meaning, of NBD is not a pat on the back thing, it's the ideology that even if you don't delete 11,000 nonfree orphaned images, you can still help the project further with admin tools. 1 nonsense page deletion, 1 vandal block, whatever... Some related thoughts are at User:Pedro/Net Positive (Pedro rox my sox). The oppose rationale you've come up with here is plausible (WP:BEANS!), but I don't think I've ever seen it used (only variations in reconfirmations, which this aint).
Why do I think you need the tools? So I can bug you when I need someone reliable, trustworthy, and not likely to be overworked deleting 11,000 images, to take a look at something. I can easily get someone to block a troll, AIV is that a way. But there are only so many people who write articles, who have good judgement, and who can be trusted, that are around—we need as many of them as possible sysopped so they can help each other in contentious cases that the vandal-fighting roleplaying crew (and I say that with respect for them, but they know their limits as much as I do) don't want to, or shouldn't, get involved.

Hello again. The Highly Active Users project has gone through a complete revamping per popular demand. We believe this new format will make it easier for new editors to find assistance. However, with the new format, I must again ask you to verify your information on this page. I attempted to translate the data from the old version to the new, but with the extensive changes, I may have made some errors. Thanks again. Useight (talk) 04:25, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I saw that you withdrew the article. As I said, I think this is a good idea. And as I said, I'm also prepared to help out. I have the article watchlisted, but have a lot of articles watchlisted. So perhaps you might want to drop a note with me when you want me to take a look at it next, perhaps after you've gone through the new sources you've managed to find? I also recommend you continue coordinating with User:Acer; he's a very good and dedicated editor, and could help a lot so long as he's not too busy elsewhere. For now, my sources seem to be lacking much useful information on how drums were actually first developed. From reading the FAC again, it looks like this needs one (or possibly two) full copyedits by editors new to the text. Please see Wikipedia:Peer_review/volunteers and Wikipedia:WikiProject League of Copyeditors/Members for lists of copyeditors who can help (Just ask nicely for help on an editor's Talk page). Request for Peer Review help

Thank you for you work as a peer review volunteer. Since March, there has been a concerted effort to make sure all peer review requests get some response. Requests that have gone three days or longer without a substantial response are listed at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog. I have three requests to help this continue.

1) If you are asked to do a peer review, please ask the person who made the request to also do a review, preferably of a request that has not yet had feedback. This is fairly simple, but helps. For example when I review requests on the backlog list, I close with Hope this helps. If my comments are useful, please consider peer reviewing an article, especially one at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog (which is how I found this article). Yours, ...

2) While there are several people who help with the backlog, lately I have been doing up to 3 or 4 peer reviews a day and can not keep this up much longer. We need help. Since there are now well over 100 names on the PR volunteers page, if each volunteer reviewed just one PR request without a response from the list each month, it would easily take care of the "no response" backlog. To help spread out the load, I suggest those willing pick a day of the month and do a review that day (for example, my first edit was on the 8th, so I could pick the 8th). Please pick a peer review request with no responses yet, if possible off the backlog list. If you want, leave a note on my talk page as to which day you picked and I will remind you each month.

3) I have made some proposals to add some limits to peer review requests at Wikipedia_talk:Peer_review#Proposed_limits. The idea is to prevent any one user from overly burdening the process. These seem fairly reasonable (one PR request per editor per day, only four total PR requests per editor at a time, PR requests with cleanup banners can be delisted (like GAN quick fail), and wait two weeks to relist a PR request after it is archived), but have gotten no feedback in one week. If you have any thoughts on these, please weigh in.

Thanks again for your help and in advance for any assistance with the backlog. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:07, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Will do. --Kakofonous (talk) 22:00, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

I did get the note, thanks, but didn't have time to do the revamping. To your second question: sometimes, when I'm playing rock, I can be pretty loud. And third, thanks for the GA review. Hello yet again. I regretfully inform you that the bot we were using to update the user status at Wikipedia:Highly Active Users, SoxBot V, was blocked for its constant updating. With this bot out of operation, a patch is in the works. Until that patch is reviewed and accepted by the developers, some options have been presented to use as workarounds: 1) Qui monobook (not available in Internet Explorer); 2) User:Hersfold/StatusTemplate; 3) Manually updating User:StatusBot/Status/USERNAME; or 4) Not worry about it and wait for the patch to go through, which hopefully won't take long.
