Speedy deletion tag (false rugby league competitions)

Hi mate, could you please put a speedy deletion tag on 2016 Rugby League Asian Series and Nippon Super Rugby League. I don't know how to (and I've been editing here since 07!)!Youndbuckerz (talk) 14:53, 21 May 2016 (UTC)

WikiProject Rugby League on the Wikipedia Signpost

This week, Wikipedia:WikiProject Rugby league will appear on the Wikipedia Signpost. As you are one of the more active members of Wikiproject Rugby league, I was wondering if you'd be interested in participating in the interview by answering the questions at Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Newsroom/WikiProject desk/Interviews4. Thanks. Leeds United FC fan (talk) 15:24, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Josh the Newcastle fan! I'm a Warriors fan and have spent a lot of time a few weeks ago cleaning up the various pages for the various Warriors players. I removed a lot of excess wikilinks! I've just gone to the James Gavet page, as he has just been given contract by the Warriors, and of course you've been there already. Which is great, no problem. But please have a look at the Playing Career section on his entry. You'll see that NSW Cup gets wikilinked every time it gets a mention and I traced all those back to when you created the page. As I understand it, the protocol is usually for only the first mention of anything to get wikilinked, Check out WP:OVERLINK Don't get me wrong, it's great that you're putting so much effort into creating and maintaining these pages. All the very best to you, mate. EDIT: and of course, feel free to delete this post whenever. It's your talk page! Boscaswell (talk) 20:24, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for that. Yes, when I created that page I was still learning the ropes a little bit, guilty of an overlink or two, but I think you'll find the majority of the wikilinks you removed from the Warriors pages were done by another certain user who doesn't seem to understand that you don't have to link everything. The work you did on those to fix them up is fantastic as me and other users became too lazy to keep trying to maintain it. And even then, there's still a huge problem with overlinks out there on other clubs' player pages. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 03:02, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

No worries, sorry about that, Josh the Newcastle fan...I can guess who, I think. I'll try, er, Addying something on his Talk page. And thanks for the rap! Boscaswell (talk) 08:01, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
@Josh the newcastle fan: I believe I managed to put a stop to the ever-growing number of Wikilinks on the NRL player pages. A.n.other editor has a host of warning messages on his (or her) talk page, which might have gone un-noticed by him. So like I did to draw your attention to the post I made at the top of this section, I used the Josh the Newcastle fan-type means of attracting his attention. This was before I discovered the far easier "ping" means that this post starts with, but both of them result in the same red flag type notification that the user can't help but see as soon as they're logged in. So he had one of those at the begining of a post asking him nicely not to Wikilink everything, and I think the message was both received and understood *and* actually acted upon. Hurrah! All the best to you! Sorry the Knights got done over, hehe. Boscaswell talk 19:55, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
Dammit! Spoke to soon! I'd checked before and thought he'd learned, but apparently not. I've asked again. Boscaswell talk 20:11, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Haha yeah thanks, could be a very long season for me. Yeah, it's quite hard to get his attention, he seems to be very slowly getting better at general Wikipedia stuff over time so one can only hope he catches on to excess links problem at some point. Bare urls

Could I ask that you try to ensure that your editing on NRL players, whilst perfectly legitimate and useful, does not constantly result in leaving behind a bare url. It means that [Category:Articles needing link rot cleanup from February 2016] etc., is flooded every other day or so. Given that the amount of editors operating in that area is extremely small, it does place undue pressure on those trying to clear them. Usually the url can be converted into a full reference with minimum fuss, and it would greatly help if you could try to address this when effecting your edits. (See Wikipedia:Bare URLs). Thank you,

Derek R Bullamore (talk) 13:32, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

Sorry mate, I had no idea that the users filling out the URLs were actually doing it themselves, I thought it was just bots doing it. I will try to be more infrequent with my adding of the linkrot tag in future. I would like to say, I haven't actually personally been adding all the URLs that you've been filling out the last few days, I've been chasing the tail of another editor who has been doing a bunch of edits and I've been trying to keep the pages clean by adding the linkrot tag. I would probably try and fill some of the URLs out myself, but I have no idea how. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 13:46, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

OK, I should have double checked where the bare URLs originated, but you get my point. There are two semi-automatic BOTs that will do the job - either Reflinks or Refill. They are not as daunting as they might at first appear - if I can use them, then I guess most editors can. Give them a try (I prefer the former, but either option will suffice) - if you have any difficulties then I can probably assist. They do require some manual intervention, as you will discover, but many bare urls should disappear as quick as you take to post the linkrot tag. Cheers,

Thanks, I checked it out and was able to work it. I'm not sure what to do in this situation though, where the webpage title is unusable or whatever. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 11:25, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

It probably is still an active link. Try clicking on the blue line on the top which should take you to the article. Many Australian newspaper article titles fall into this category (I don't know why this should be though). The Daily Telegraph, Herald Sun, The Australian, Courier Mail etc. Conversely, the article title is usually available in the url itself ("Ideal Cure for Kurt's Blues" would be my guess). I hope this helps - oh, and thanks your your positive response. The bare urls need all the help we can muster ! Cheers,
Derek R Bullamore (talk) 12:01, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

Thanks again, I think I've figured out the basics of it now. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 12:28, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

Dear josh to can you change Jaydns birthplace. I'm his uncle, and his birthplace is Christchurch. He is also half Samoan , half Caucasian. He moved over to Brisbane at age of 15 months old.I have a lot of people trying to stake a claim on him. They're false family IriKA'uS19 (talk) 04:18, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

On this site you need to post a source article to change a page's information. The information on the page has a source already, so changing it without adding a new source will always be reverted. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 07:38, 9 June 2016 (UTC)

Tariq Sims

Hey Josh, can you take a look at the Tariq Sims article. the page is a little confusing about whether he is still with the Knights or is now with the Dragons. The intro, infobox and 2016 sections all seem to conflict! Mattlore (talk) 04:45, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

Hey, I think you'd have more luck talking to User:Nhoj1898, as he was the one that made it into a page. I created it with the intention for it to be just a redirect. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 07:38, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

John Asiata

Good call. I was dubious with the name PJ Asiata, and then thought the J in PJ is often John. Did a brief, and too brief investigation and found that Asiata was at Parra at that sort of timeframe, had a look at photos and thought not identical, but five years of growing could do that. Perhaps a little too eager and the could, should have led to more investigation. Cheers for keeping me honest.Fleets (talk) 06:43, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
