Micheline Maylor edit

I didn't say she's not notable; I said the sources present in the article weren't reliable sources that can support notability. Wikipedia's notability criteria depend entirely on the volume and quality and type of sources that can be provided to support the article — no criterion can ever be passed just by claiming that it's passed, or by referencing the claim to Blogspot or Tumblr blogs or primary sources.

Coverage in real media is the be-all and end-all of whether a person gets into Wikipedia or not — being named as a city's poet laureate would be sufficient notability if the quality of referencing were adequate to meet WP:GNG, but it's still not a claim of notability that would entitle her to have an article that's sourced as inadequately as this still is. While I see that you've recently added a couple of references (Metro and the Calgary Herald) of a stronger class than anything that was there before, all of the other references still have to go, and you haven't added enough better references yet to satisfy GNG.

It may be possible to get her over the bar — but as things stand right now, that will still require putting some more work into making the referencing a lot better than it is. Except for Metro and the Calgary Herald, every other reference in the article still has to be removed, and more pieces of media coverage about her still have to be added to replace them. Managing a conflict of interest edit

  Hello, Jeffkov. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Draft:Jodi Kovitz, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. •≈20+π(talk to me!) 20:22, 25 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Conflict of interest edit

Hello Jeffkov. I read your message on the Draft:Jodi Kovitz page. While it's true that in the main encyclopedia people are discouraged from editing articles about subjects with which they are closely connected, this is okay for drafts that are submitted through WP:AFC, since the page will ultimately be moved to mainspace by a neutral editor.

What's holding the draft back and making editors hesitate to accept it is the fact that many of the references are not independent, and if no journalist, tech writer or other independent author has written about her role in an organization this may indicate that either the organization or her role in it are not newsworthy as yet, and maybe should not be in the article - it's not like a resume, listing everything a person has done. Also unlike a resume, instead of listing important-sounding titles, the article should say what Ms Kovic actually did in these organizations - organize a conference, plan a campaign, make a speech, write an article, etc. Although I'm sure that's not the case here, it's possible to have your name on a committee list for years and not actually do anything.

It's true that the draft is written without any glowing testaments - the language is okay. It's difficult, though, for a relative to be neutral about what information to put in the article; for example, detail about the subject's family members that hasn't been the subject of a news report or independently written feature article.

I am making an effort to find some better sources, but I don't have a lot of time right now, so I can't do it all at once.—Anne Delong (talk) 11:19, 8 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Anna Weyant - Copyright edit

I see you have contributed a significant amount to the Anna Weyant article. Please note that it is against Wikipedia policy to copy and paste material from another source without proper attribution. You copied several sections of text from Harper's Bazaar, ARTnet, and Fad Magazine and did not attribute them as direct quotes - that is a copyright violation. Please rephrase or directly attribute all content from another source. This is a basic tenet of editing on Wikipedia. Thank you.

I've gone ahead and taken out all copyrighted material from that article and broadly restructured it to be in line with the Manual of Style. --19h00s (talk) 22:51, 30 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sorry. My mistake. Did not know that. Appreciate your help and will not do that again.
Jeff 174.0.15.17 (talk) 22:53, 30 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Just to follow up here - can I ask if you have a personal or professional relationship to Anna Weyant, her family, or Gagosian Gallery? This would include owning any financial stake in a work by the artist. I really hesitate to ask this so directly, as I don't like to be accusatory, but you seem to have contributed a significant amount to this article, including several personal details that would be difficult to publicly find. Again, I'm not trying to accuse or attack, but you seem pretty invested in specifically adding positive news and analysis about Weyant while removing what you view as negative. Additionally, via your talk page, I can see you have faced several issues in the past with conflicts of interest, so I want to be sure you weren't asked to update or edit this page by someone connected to Weyant. Thank you. 19h00s (talk) 17:51, 2 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Actually I have known Anna since she was about 8 years old - she was a daughter of some friends of mine. I have been following her career and am both astonished and delighted. As she has been making her way in the art world (which no one could have predicted) with the recognition and talent starting to grow and flourish, I have been following her career and have been keeping an eye on her wiki page and adding editing as things come up. I have not been asked to update or edit it by anyone. I care about Wikipedia likely just like you do and just keep an eye on this page. The art world is tempestuous and there are both advocates and assassins who (as you know) don't always have a pure heart when it comes to adding, editing or changing Wiki Pages. No conflict of interest (I was also a lawyer back at the dawn of time). Just a very surprised, but delighted observer. As a retired guy (age 74), I now have the gift of time to do these kinds of things. I was (also now retired) the Chair of the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, a world famous post secondary arts institution in Canada that scholarships and provided programs and self study for up and coming creatives of all sorts and have been involved in supporting creatives for decades https://www.banffcentre.ca/. Anna is one of many creatives I follow and help nourish. She is the only one I am currently doing that for on Wikipedia but I do lots of similar things and provide support (and donations) for literary, musical, and visual artists that I have met or know for several decades. See: https://www.flickr.com/photos/banffcentre/6050293736. IIn that picture was there hosting the then Premier of the Province of Alberta (like a Governor in the United States) etc to build support for creatives. I only mention this to credentialize myself as someone who CARES about creatives and creativity. Any followup clarification you need, please let me know. Jeffkov (talk) 18:13, 2 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much for the reply, Jeff. I really appreciate the candor. Unfortunately, the personal relationship you have with the artist can be a conflict of interest. I completely understand what you're saying about other editors using this article to vent their own frustrations with the art world via critique of Weyant, but I'm not sure that is reason enough for you to contribute when you have personally known the subject of the article for nearly two decades. 19h00s (talk) 21:53, 2 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Jeffkov: I removed that Forbes 30 under 30 junk that you added the article. Its not a reliable source and put on the black list for that reason. An artist like that who is absolutely steller doesn't need approval from Forbes to show she is notable. The work is astounding already. Good work updating it. The WP:MOS decides what should go in and what shouldn't. Hope that helps. scope_creepTalk 16:13, 3 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Quill (company) edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Quill (company), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. BangJan1999 18:37, 22 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
