JD, might I advise not creating new articles on supercentenarians unless you plan to actually do some research (i.e. find the obituary and/or newspaper coverage)? Unlinked names are a sign of a 'to-do' list but when people create a short bio-stub, no one will notice that most of the real work for that article is not done...unless it gets deleted.Ryoung122 13:06, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Private Eye etc edit

Ok, i apologise, you may not be a rogue editor but the way you went about this has been clumsy to say the least, wading into articles deleting swarthes of accurate information without prior discussion. And then to read your page and see that you seem primarly concerned with boosting your edits is disconcerting.

If the quotes can be moved to wikiquote, which is perhaps what you should have done in the first place given the content of your postings, then that will be the end of the matter and we need communicate no further. GWP 13:43, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I've added a formal merge-proposal header to the articles in question, to see what the consensus among editors is - a clearly-archived discussion will hopefully be more useful for everyone. --McGeddon 13:51, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Procedure edit

Hello there. WP:TROLL is definitely worth a read if you haven't already. In terms of actual warning and banning, WP:TT has official warning templates that you can paste into user talk pages (I've already dealt out a 3RR warning to the user in question) - if a user continues to vandalise Wikipedia despite having received a relevant highest-level warning, you can report them easily enough at WP:AIV and an admin will take a look and process it. Give me a shout if you've got any other questions. --McGeddon 20:59, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Blaqk Audio edit

Well if a similar situation happens (I hope in don't) I'll do it. Thanks for the supporting =] I thought about a source for their genre but I couldn't find. Or if I find this guy will say "it's not reliable" (I have such experience - find some sources and other user just remove them..) P.S. Yeah, the name is strange 0-o Xr 1 17:14, 29 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, yeah - I know and I listen to some darkwave bands , it's not my favourite style but when I hear their music and blaqk audio's music - hell, there are definately darkwave sounds & atmosphere. However finding a suorce would be the best choice.. But I'm giving up - I just don't wanna make so noise just for one genre. Xr 1 18:54, 29 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure sure of the image process either but I think what you've done is fine. So long as the fair use rationale is there then there shouldn't be a problem. Dahliarose 08:42, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use disputed for Image:Beats and bars.JPG edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Beats and bars.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:29, 6 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Jeremy Kyle edit

Hey. I didn't sprotect Jeremy Kyle, I merely added the padlock icon as the administrator who originally protected it forgot to put the tag there. Go to WP:RPP to ask for unprotection if you want.

By the way, your statistics are quite similar to mine. I am a British (Scottish) student, ex-barman, and Wikipedian... I smoke cigarettes, am about the same age as you (a couple of months older), and enjoy the music of krautrock among many other things (saw you had Conny Planck there on yr page).--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 16:38, 29 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, well, the thing about this place being full of highly qualified middle aged academics isn't really true. There are a wide range of ages, nationalities, beliefs and levels of academic qualification on here, as far as I can see. There are things that piss me off about this place (just go to my userpage and read all my rants about Wikipedia in the 'essays' that I have written), but overall it's a very impressive piece of work. I dunno - I'm not sure I could call myself a "normal kid" as I'm a bit eccentric in ways, but generally speaking I'm an amiable person who doesn't look down on others.--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 17:02, 29 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hide Ohira edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Hide Ohira, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Hide Ohira. Cheers, CP 03:30, 1 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Dumb Britain edit

Hello. And yes, I was meaning to get around to this, I just haven't yet. I'm not completely familiar with Wikiquote formatting, but just styling it after another Wikiquote article seems to work. Colemanballs was a nightmare because there was so many of them in such different formats, but Dumb Britain seems manageable - I'll take a look over the weekend, if you don't get there before me. --McGeddon (talk) 19:35, 7 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rapper Comment edit

"It is also rumoured that he is/will be working with Dr Dre (Andre Young) to feature in Dr Dre's upcoming album, Detox which is set to be out in 2008."

Removing material is a last resort, please consider tagging the article instead. It will avoid content disputes, and will contribute better to the article. Thanks. Jerome709 (talk) 16:40, 20 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Tagging may not affect the phrasing of the article in many cases, but it does change the way the article is read. People tend to be more skeptical about information if it is tagged. Besides, administrators are there to oversee that the information is accurate. Jerome709 (talk) 16:59, 20 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
But you forget that the information might actually be true. The majority of unsourced material on wikipedia is true, but has been contributed by new members who are unaware of Wikipedia's strict sourcing policies. Also, please consider that the contribution itself states that it is only a rumour. Jerome709 (talk) 17:12, 20 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

"Godfrey"/"Geoffrey" Box edit

Hiya! There was no indication of a primary source whereas multiple Google Books referred to Godfrey Box (1 2 3), in addition to a likely mention of their name on a contemporary record. Under the circumstances, without any primary reference and seeing that the vast majority of other online references to the 16th Century "Geoffrey Box" were apparently propagated from Wikipedia, it seemed like the best idea to remove that entirely as it appeared to be error and so as not to get in the way of any "other" "Geoffrey Box" who may be deemed noteworthy at a later date.
Was the source used this one this one? If so, the second half about "Sir John Spilman, set up the first paper mill in England at Dartford in the 18th century" (as appears to be the underlying source of yesterday's DYK) is actually in error (should be John Tote, in Hertfordshire, 1495). I tried to get that corrected on the DYK but that was not taken forward by the admins in time and is now shown incorrectly on the historical DYK list. :/
Was there a separate, preferable primary, source for the name, "Geoffrey Box"?
Thanks & Regards, David. Harami2000 (talk) 07:46, 21 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I nominated the River Darent article for DYK. If there was a problem with one of the factoids it's a pity nobody contacted me about it. The book on the River Darent I quoted says "A paper mill, arguably Britain's very first..." in reference to Spilman's mill. I'm afraid papermills are not my area of expertise and until now I'd not heard of John Tote. Using a search engine to search for "John Tote" brings up many pages unrelated to the man in question. Dartford edit

Hi JD I hope you don't mind if I am taking an interest in the above article. Reading it through and the various comments set me off! Peter Shearan (talk) 16:51, 21 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I suppose I should have set out some of my thoughts as I went along, but having moved things around to one way of thinking (mine!!!) I then find that another rearrangement had happened. I couldn't quite understand how so many sub paras appeared, especially since they weren't really connected, and have put them back as I left them. Sorry about that - it's become a bit tortuous, hasn't it?

Here are my thoughts then:

Geology and geography together is probably OK (I had considered that, but the "list to do" seemed to want it separate?), except that there are two pics which then do not appear alongside the relevant section (does that matter?)
I then thought that part of Geography was population, and maybe it could also include some facts about the growth of the town, and not just the bare facts about today's figures.
I did, as I had considered doing, making a complete section about Dartford's industrial history, to make a theme about that and not mixed up with other ocurrences, since the industrial bit is now almost past (OK I know that there are now dozens of small industrial units all over the place, but that too can be included. It still isn't complete
The pic of the civic centre

Plaese forgive me - I see you had made a great many changes between my two appearances!! I guess this can often happen, and it is the penalty of long distance editing! Regards Peter Peter Shearan (talk) 07:44, 24 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thankyou for the reply with which I concur. I thought to leave the article to simmer now (I'm a great believer in that!) and come back to it later. A Happy New Year! Peter Shearan (talk) 06:09, 26 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Gaffers edit

A tag has been placed on Gaffers requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. - Stephanie Daugherty (Triona) - Talk - Comment - 22:21, 12 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

AfD nomination of Anitica Butariu edit

<from my talk page>

An editor has nominated Anitica Butariu, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Anitica Butariu and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 02:00, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Beats and bars.JPG) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Beats and bars.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Invitation to Wikipedia meetup in London edit

Wikimedia UK logo

Date: 13:00 onwards, Sunday 10 August 2008

Venue: Penderel's Oak pub, Holborn WC1 map

More information: Wikipedia:Meetup/London 12

Hello,

I noticed that you have listed yourself as a Wikipedian in London, so I thought you might like to come to one of our monthly social meetups. The next one is going to be on Sunday 10 August, which might well be rather short notice, but if you can't come this time, we try to have one every second Sunday of the month.

If you haven't been before, these meetups are mainly casual social events for Wikipedia enthusiasts in which we chat about Wikipedia and any other topics we fancy. It's a great way to meet some very keen Wikipedians, but we'd also love for you to come along if you're interested in finding out more about Wikipedia, other Wikimedia projects, or other collaborative wiki projects too.

The location is a pub that is quite quiet and family friendly on a Sunday lunchtime, so hopefully younger Wikipedians will also feel welcome and safe. Alcohol consumption is certainly not required!

Although the meetups are popular, many UK-based editors still don't know about them. It would be great to welcome some fresh faces, so I hope you can come along.

Yours,

James F. (talk) 09:27, 3 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please forgive the slightly impersonal mass-invite!

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice edit

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Proposed deletion of Margarethe Zinndorf edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Margarethe Zinndorf, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Typo redirect Dom disk on module edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Dom disk on module, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Dom disk on module is a redirect page resulting from an implausible typo (CSD R3).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Dom disk on module, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here CSDWarnBot (talk) 05:11, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image (File:Beautiful skin.JPG) edit

Thanks for uploading File:Beautiful skin.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Aspects (talk) 07:06, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Unreferenced BLPs edit

Hello Jdcooper! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to these articles, it would greatly help us with the current 940 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Richard Hunt (sculptor) - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Michael Pearson (horologist) - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

AfD nomination of Skepta edit

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Skepta. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Skepta (2nd nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:05, 26 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Paige Moss until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

London Wikimedia Fundraiser edit

Good evening! This is a friendly message from Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry, inviting you to the London Wikimedia Fundraising party on 19th December 2010, in approximately one week. This party is being held at an artistic London venue with room for approximately 300 people, and is being funded by Ed Saperia, a non-Wikipedian who has a reputation for holding exclusive events all over London. This year, he wants to help Wikipedia, and is subsidising a charity event for us. We're keen to get as many Wikimedians coming as possible, and we already have approximately 200 guests, including members of the press, and some mystery guests! More details can be found at http://ten.wikipedia.org/wiki/London - expect an Eigenharp, a mulled wine hot tub, a free hog roast, a haybale amphitheatre and more. If you're interested in coming - and we'd love to have you - please go to the ten.wikipedia page and follow the link to the Facebook event. Signing up on Facebook will add you to the party guestlist. Entry fee is a heavily subsidised £5 and entry is restricted to over 18s. It promises to be a 10th birthday party to remember! If you have any questions, please email me at chasemewiki at gmail.com.

Hope we'll see you there, (and apologies for the talk page spam) - Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry (talk) 23:11, 12 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Recurring in-jokes in Private Eye edit

The article Recurring in-jokes in Private Eye has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Actually, after having edited and seen this a lot, I think this article is without merit. The only people who will read it is those who read Private Eye, or in the alternate, those who can't be bothered to fork out for it. There is nothing in here that you could not get from Private Eye itself or from other articles.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Si Trew (talk) 00:27, 15 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
