Just a question

Are you interested in wikignoming and/or content (article) writing? The content writing lesson is surprisingly short, and wikignoming is my specialty. Dylan620 (Toolbox Alpha, Beta) 13:34, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Both of these, definitely. :) -T'Shael, Lord of the Vulcans 14:18, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Blrghrg

Thanks for that Barnstar, I appreciate it. Its funny that I never even intended to stay on Wikipedia, I just wanted to correct a typo on Ratchet: Deadlocked, now I've ended up getting awards. (the title is gibberish because, whenever I go on a user's talk page, I always see about a dozen posts called 'Thanks' and I just thought it was a very unimaginative thing to say. It gets me very annoyed actually) Spongefrog (talk) 15:17, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Well, I hope that you decide to stick around. And, I believe I am entitled to be on the "Non-Shame List" ;) -T'Shael, Lord of the Vulcans 15:23, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

I was in the middle off non-shaming you when I got that message!!!!! >:( I'll do it now. I have to stay, I'm a Wikipediholic now. Or is it Wikiholic, I can't remember. I've been here for about 4 months now anyway, it would be a shame to let my edit average per day go down. Spongefrog (talk) 15:27, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Wikiholic, I think. And yes, this place is incredibly addicting. When I first started I was averaging over 200 edits a day. Now I'm down to 138. Sad. -T'Shael, Lord of the Vulcans 15:30, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Two hundred! Wow, the most I've ever got was 72 in a day. Spongefrog (talk) 15:32, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Behold the power of Huggle. -T'Shael, Lord of the Vulcans 15:33, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

CHEATER! Anyway, I added you to the non-shame list. Spongefrog (talk) 15:36, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Adoption update

Hi T'Shael, just so you know, User:Dylan620/Adoption/T'Shael and its first subpage (lesson #1) are up and running. Cheers! Dylan620 (Toolbox Alpha, Beta) 17:23, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Ah, splendid. :) Thanks for the update, I shall head over there posthaste. -T'Shael, Lord of the Vulcans 17:27, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi

Hello T'Shael. Since you seem to have a new signature every week, I'm going to ask you. How exactly do you change your signature to include color, font, links to guestbooks etc.? I've tried it numerous times in the last ten minutes but it didn't work. I was going to ask on the helpdesk, but I saw you were busy and asked you.

P.S. Did you 1) used to be called 'Those Stars Burn Like Diamonds'? Or 2) did you not. Or 3) did you used to be called that but changed it for a very personal reason and don't want anyone to know. If 3) don't answer. Spongefrog (talk) 18:51, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Actually, it usually says "busy" all the time. I actually just stopped in for a little bit. Anyway, have you read WP:CUSTOMSIG? There's not much more than I can add to that except to show you what my signature looks like un-wikified (<span style="color:Gray; font-family:'High Tower Text';">T'Shael,</span> <span style="color:red; font-family:'High Tower Text';">Lord of the Vulcans</span>). If that doesn't help, let me know and I'll try again. ;) And yes, I used to be known as "ThoseStarsBurnLikeDiamonds" but Avraham changed it about a month ago. Since you seem to like stalking archives you can find out why I had it changed at WP:CHU. ;) -T'Shael, Lord of the Vulcans 19:02, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
If you'd rather not read all that, let me know what you'd like and I can probably work something up for ya. ;) -T'Shael, Lord of the Vulcans 19:06, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Wait a minute I'm about to reply (you just edit conflitificated me >:() Spongefrog (talk) 19:09, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

I wasn't stalking archives!! Its because there's (or was) this thing on your userpage that said someone called you something (a sad old man, I think) but when I clicked on it, the vandal had been talking about Thosestarsburnlikediamonds. Or if you mean how I knew about your signature changing, its because I seem to see your username in several unrelated places on Wikipedia. That happens with other users too, actually Damerung and Gaia Octavia Agrippa for example. Weird. There must be far fewer active users than you would be led to believe from all the statistics. Anyway thanks. I tried finding a WP page for signatures but could only find things about unnacceptable signatures (I probably did a typo or something). There was something else I was going to say but I cant remember it. I'll tell you when I remember. Spongefrog (talk) 19:15, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Haha, okay. ;) That's what I meant, my signature is probably on a lot of pages here on Wikipedia. If you remember what you wanted to say, I'll probably be around another 20 minutes or so. -T'Shael, Lord of the Vulcans 19:18, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

What? Spongefrizzle?! So thats what your calling me now is it? Oh, its OK, I remembered. I've already put it in the post above, i'd just forgotten. It was the thing about not finding the WP page about it. Spongefrog (talk) 19:21, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Oh, alright. Sounds good. :) -T'Shael, Lord of the Vulcans 19:25, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

I put that thing in but look: <font color="Green" face="High Tower Text">Spongefrizzle,</font> <font color="blue" face="High Tower Text">(talk to me, yo)</font> (talk) 18:42, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

I am currently writting a novel about a fictious land of delfinus and the quest to save it and was wandering if i could use Lord of Vulcans as a title to a character. Thanks!SchnitzelMannGreek. 22:16, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Well, if you're planning on trying to publish it, most likely not. While I have no problem with it, "Vulcan" is a species in Star Trek and I'm pretty sure that it is copyrighted. I didn't invent it or anything. -T'Shael, Lord of the Vulcans 23:54, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
You're not the ORIGINAL Vulcan? How... disappointing. Vicenarian (T · C) 00:04, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Hey

Hi T'Shael. I was just wondering how you got so many people to comment on your talk page. I mean, you've only been on Wikipedia for <2 months and I've been on for >9 months (User:BriMaster2000-Vandalism problems--Let's just say my mom was upset) / >3 months. By the way, go to my friend Universal Fin's page. He could use some help with Wikipedia. Also, how did you get all your stuff into the toolbar and have specific pages for barnstars and user boxes. And how did you get barnstars. I want some. BriMaster2 (talk) 02:29, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

T'Shael is well-loved. Speaking of which, I'm off for a little vacation. I'll see you guys in a few! Vicenarian (T · C) 02:36, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
Well, in my time here I've been relatively active in the account creation process as well as vandalism fighting and new page-patrolling. So, I guess this counts for the high level of traffic to my user page. The toolbar I got from the user page design center and created user:T'Shael/NavBar to change it so that all the icons redirect to my specific pages. As to the barn stars, they are relatively self-explanatory. :) Hope that this helps some. And Vicenarian is right, people love me. :) -T'Shael, Lord of the Vulcans 02:41, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
You want Barnstars, do you. Write a big list of reasons why you deserve them, like I did here. It works for me. Or add the UBX below. (sorry about using your talk page to talk to someone else, T'Shael). Spongefrog, (talk to me, or else) 12:40, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Huggle

I tried to download Huggle as a faster alternative to Lupin's Anti-Vandal Tool but it said I need.NET Framework 2.0. I am afraid that might change the settings on my computer. Whant should I do?SchnitzelMannGreek. 17:20, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

I don't think that it will have any affect on your settings. The computer that I'm on right now is my MacBook, so I can't even put Huggle on as my Mac doesn't like running Windows programs (even with Darwine). However, I do have it on my PC and I can't remember it changing anything. So, it should be okay. :) -T'Shael, Lord of the Vulcans 18:18, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, just a quick question here: I don't know a lot about Macs, not having ever used one (apart from McDonalds maybe), but do you use FireFox on your Mac? – B.hoteptalk• 18:28, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Haha, nice. ;) Yes, I use Firefox as Safari is total trash. -T'Shael, Lord of the Vulcans 18:44, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
I see. Yes I use FireFox (and have done for several years now) because Huggle (or any scripts) don't work properly in IE or any other I tried. When I say "doesn't work properly" – that includes some serious problems with admin tool scripts which could lead to some dangerous and/or embarrassing situations! It's just interesting to hear Huggle won't work on Mac. And even more surprising to hear one of the script wizards around here hasn't put a fix to that yet! – B.hoteptalk• 18:48, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

(outdent) Agreed. However, Huggle works on Mac for some users (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Huggle/Wine) but not for others. I just happen to be in the "not for others" section. It would be a lot easier if someone would write a version of Huggle for Mac OS instead of us having to port it using Wine, which isn't always successful. I wish that I knew who to talk to about doing that. -T'Shael, Lord of the Vulcans 18:52, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

I downloaded Huggle but When I try to log in it says "huggle is not enabled for your account, check user confirmation page". What do I do?SchnitzelMannGreek. 19:22, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

HSED content

This supposed copyright infringed material is straight from a Wisconsin state law which is released to the public. I can quote the legalese or paraphrase again or some other compromise but the article is notable and complete deletion is unnecessary. Alatari (talk) 05:54, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

I still think that my tag is valid, as the website in question clearly has © 2008 GED High School Corporation of America at the bottom. -T'Shael, Lord of the Vulcans 05:58, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm finding the identical content on several pages all taken from the Wisconsin law. witch college, Fox Valley College, Moraine Tech. I'm not finding the entire transcript of the state law online. Alatari (talk) 06:07, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

I reworded the content and could reorder the items but I'm not sure how much further I can change the wording without fundamentally changing the Wisconsins' laws meaning. Alatari (talk) 06:15, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

It's 1am I can't keep working. I'll copy the text and work on it offline then readd it if it's deleted by the time I get on tomorrow. I was shocked when I found no article on this subject so it needs something. Alatari (talk) 06:17, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Sorry for the long reply, but I logged off as it was getting late. Anyway, if you're certain that this has been part of Wisconsin state law that is (obviously) not copyrighted, I will assume that you are right and I'll go ahead and remove the speedy tag. Wow. I had a really good username in mind, but I can't remember it now. I'll have to have a think. Do all your contribs and stuff stay the same. What about when you sign posts in discussions. Does this create a redirect. I'll have to inform everyone I've ever spoken to. Any suggestions? I was thinking of pretending to be a fictional character like User:John Carter or User:Ernst Stavro Blofeld. I'm so exited!! Spongefrog, (talk to me, or else) 21:34, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
All of your contributions are re attributed to your new username. I believe you'll have to go into Special:Preferences and change your signature, though, and renaming will not replace your old sig with your new one. Hope this helps. :) -T'Shael, Lord of the Vulcans 00:43, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Good, good. Now I'll just have to think up a decient username. Spongefrog, (talk to me, or else) 16:38, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

(outdent) Well, what are you interested in? I chose T'Shael because I like Star Trek and T'Shael is a character in one of my favourite Star Trek novels. ThoseStarsBurnLikeDiamods is a line out of a song by the band Gloriana. -T'Shael, Lord of the Vulcans 16:40, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

I think I'll steal User:Ernst Stavro Blofeld's idea of impersonating a Jaes Bond character. I joined the Wikiproject 1 or 2 weeks ago. Wait. I've said that already. I could be like you and call myself Mr Spock. Or just plain "Username". But I think User:Example might have taken that up already. I'll probably think for 2-5 days and then decide. Spongefrog, (talk to me, or else) 16:55, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Why not try user:SmoothCriminal or user:Captain Planet? Though both of those would have to go through WP:CHUU-T'Shael, Lord of the Vulcans 18:00, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Usurpations eh? I didn't know you could do that. Spongefrog, (talk to me, or else) 19:30, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Yep, though the account you want to usurp should have no edits or significant log entries on any Wikimedia Project to qualify for usurpation, although rare exceptions are made where old edits do not require attribution under the GFDL. So I'm not sure that you could have either one of those. But there are plenty of usernames out there that have 0 edits that you could have. See here. -T'Shael, Lord of the Vulcans 19:33, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
Interesting. I've got a notebook containing potential usernames, I'll dec-ide next week. I was about to suggest that thing you said on my talk page, so good timing. Yes it is on my watchlist. I'll try not to stalk you. But no guarantees. Spongefrog, (talk to me, or else) 20:19, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

MediaRing Talk

Looking at the article creator's history I see he/she has a similar article that has previously been deleted but then created the article in a subpage, presumable making it acceptable for inclusion. Then an admin moved that article from his/her subpage and into the main articlespace. (MediaRing Limited is the article.) After seeing that I started having doubts. I've asked another admin to check on whether or not I've been hasty. She's yet to reply. -WarthogDemon 02:45, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Actually now that I look again I see I got it backwards... the admin userfied it, not the other way around. The user moved it back into the article namespace. So maybe I was right the first time? We shall see... -WarthogDemon 02:51, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. We'll see, BorgQueen might delete it. Better to leave a CSD-screaming article on longer, than deleting a legit article without a second thought. -WarthogDemon 03:04, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

What a mess this little menace leaves in his wake (sigh). If you ever suspect that he's created still another sock, registered or not, please let me know. You da man.  :) --PMDrive1061 (talk) 04:07, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. :) You did the right thing based on what I just saw. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 04:11, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Looked as if you were working with Collectonian on reversing some of his vandalism. I tell you, I've been editing this site on and off practically since it was founded and I've never seen anything quite like this kid. It isn't so much that he has access to multiple IPs and a dynamic one as well. It's the fact that he is still treating this as some sort of game after nearly a year, longer if an old 2006 account I blocked is actually him...which evidence says it is. It's a sad, pathetic situation. I almost feel sorry for him. Anyway, gotta run. Have a blast 'round the wiki and we'll chat again soon. Best, --PMDrive1061 (talk) 04:19, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Autoreviewer/Archive

Hi there T'Shael. You said you'd be willing to help with this, so I thought I should let you now that I've now set up the archive (it is located at Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Autoreviewer/Archive). Very easy to add new reports, just add them to the bottom of the list, creating a new month section when appropriate. Also, try and make sure that the requests are in the right order, because often (on WP:NPWatcher requests anyway) users will add their requests to the top of the list rather than the bottom. But it's not a massive problem if you miss that (just don't archive any unresolved requests). Cheers - Kingpin13 (talk)

Ah, cool. Is it alright to archive requests as soon as they are marked   Done or   Not done, or is there some sort of time frame that we're shooting for? Cheers, T'Shael,The Vulcan Overlord 16:01, 24 June 2009 (UTC 18:17, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
I personally think there should always be at least some requests left on the page (it helps users making new requests see what to do). Also, I don't think we should archive them one-by-one, it's probably a better idea to do it in batches. Sometimes users aren't notified on their talk pages, so it helps them to see when they are approved. So, don't archive straight away, and preferably don't archive requests which have just passed. Otherwise, whenever you wanna :) - Kingpin13 (talk) 18:23, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Naw, don't feel bad. The burden lies with the editor who is "vandalizing" a userpage to explain in the edit summary that they are doing so at the behest of the user. (In fact, IMHO, EVERY edit should have SOME sort of edit summary, even a cursory one.) Vicenarian (T · C) 23:15, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

I do not, as I haven't spent any time over there. I've been using soft redirects to my user pages here on the other WM projects that I do participate in, because A) I'm lazy and B) I spend most of my time here. Why? Vicenarian (T · C) 23:31, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

(outdent) Your talk page. Some vigorous anti-Chicago, anti-Illinois sentiment from that one. Indefinitely blocked now, of course. Vicenarian (T · C) 23:43, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Ah, okay. Yeah, I agree. The vandals are out in full force today. It makes for an interesting day on the 'pedia, though. :) Why don't you fire up Huggle and help us out? -T'Shael,The Vulcan Overlord 16:01, 24 June 2009 (UTC 23:45, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
I love to do that, Huggle is amazing and I should get to work at it now:DSchnitzelMannGreek. 23:46, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
Oh, I will, as soon as I get home - still at work, and my work computer is not Huggle-friendly. I've done some old-school, manual RC patrolling from here. It's easier with the help of Popups and Twinkle, and if you look at only those edits from IPs, but it's still a pain. Vicenarian (T · C) 23:52, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

(outdent) I can empathize. I'm on a PC now (obviously), but my main computer is a Mac and I can't seem to get Huggle to cooperate on it. -T'Shael,The Vulcan Overlord 16:01, 24 June 2009 (UTC 23:53, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

PC rules! :) I had some IRC-related trouble with the new version of Huggle before I went on my break, which I hope was a temporary glitch. (PS: When doing manual patrol, filtering out logged-in users means you miss vandalism-only accounts like the one that was just bothering you. But since most vandalism comes from IPs, it's a good strategy for focusing on edits most likely to be suspect.) Vicenarian (T · C) 23:57, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
I absolutely loathe PCs. Mainly because my signature looks like sin on them. ;) The IRC problems with Huggle seem to be fixed, though, as I haven't had any trouble with them. When I'm on my Mac I usually sit in on the counter vandalism unit's IRC channel as edits that could possibly be vandalism are reported there. Though, you get a lot of edits that are not, so you have to mainly keep an eye on IPs. Manual patrolling sucks. ;) -T'Shael,The Vulcan Overlord 16:01, 24 June 2009 (UTC 23:59, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Hello

Just curious, where would I go to send a user an email via wiki? No one in particular, just in case I need it in the future. Thanks;)SchnitzelMannGreek. 23:44, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

On the very left of user pages, underneath the heading "toolbox", you should see a link that says "Email this user". -T'Shael,The Vulcan Overlord 16:01, 24 June 2009 (UTC 23:46, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
Yes, and if you don't see the link, the user probably has email disabled. You can also try typing "Special:EmailUser/USERNAME" in the search box and hit GO. If you get an error, than the user has email disabled. Vicenarian (T · C) 23:49, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, both of you;)SchnitzelMannGreek. 23:50, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

I had a somewhat similar experience the other day with an IP address. Though I made a mistake and warned him for tagging a page for deletion he was rather persnickety with me and ending up getting blocked later for edit warring. Made me feel somewhat better..;) -T'Shael,The Vulcan Overlord 16:01, 24 June 2009 (UTC 04:48, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Hmm.. I'm not really sure. I wouldn't think so, as that user has 20 or so edits attributed to them, however I honestly don't know. It was pretty impressive. Don't articles that are about to be "in the news" so to speak, usually get preemptive protection? -t'shaelchat 20:04, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Protection isn't usually used in a preemptive manner, only in response to actual vandalism. But if something is in the news and is a target because of that, the guidelines suggest protecting for the as long as the target is "in the public eye." Also, thanks for the user page edit, cleans it up rather nicely. :-) Vicenarian (T · C) 20:08, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Regarding Derrick Pitts

Hello T'Shael, I recently made the page for Derrick Pitts, and you tagged it believing that it was an autobiography. This is certainly understandable given that we coincidentally share the same name. HOWEVER, we are different people. I am Derrick Pitts, a teenage college student from Texas. I apologize for the confusion and thanks for the warm welcome, regardless. DePitts (talk) 23:45, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, interesting. Fair enough. Considering that the tone of the article is relatively neutral, I'll assume good faith and remove the autobiography tag. I hope that you enjoy Wikipedian and being a Wikipedian. Happy editing, t'shaelchat 23:50, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

No Problem.

Yeah no problem. I had just seen that kind of thing around before and decided to make my own variation. Didn't realize that is was decided against them. Thanks for the note!--Gordonrox24 | Talk 00:59, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Thought I'd drop in and say hello. By the way, here's my funny revert for the day--[4]. Had it not been vandalism, it would deserve a barnstar of good humor to that user:D. Where do they come up with this stuff?SchnitzelMannGreek. 02:33, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Actually, I must disagree as I don't find racism particularly humorous. -t'shaelchat 03:30, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Your opinion

Good Day;) I wanted to ask you, what do you think of my new created article:2,000 Romanian Lei Note. I made this today(which is why I haven't done as much vandal reverting which I will soon;))SchnitzelMannGreek. 16:45, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

BTW, HERE IS A REALLY FUNNY REVERT[5]SchnitzelMannGreek. 20:02, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
Since it is dealing with a year, why not move it to 2000 Romanian Lei Note and remove the comma? -t'shaelchat 20:34, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
The problem with that is that there are other banknotes of romania printed in 2000. This one was actually prited up till 2004. But the article is about one single denomination and one specific note....the only Romanian banknote with the denomination of 2000 and that kind.Thi banknote was a novelty in Romania at that time. But 2000 (year) banknotes include more--SchnitzelMannGreek. 21:06, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
You said it was dealing with a year, but the article isn't. The reason its denomination is 2,000 is because the eclipse was the last of the millinneium and close to 2000. But there are other banknotes in the year 2000. This one actually deals with the eclipse.SchnitzelMannGreek. 21:11, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
Ah, okay. I thought that the article was talking about a specific banknote released in the year 2000. Perhaps before commenting I should read the whole article first. ;) -T'Shael the SockTalk to my master 22:22, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

"Penguins" mix-up

I am SUCH a doofus. I was protecting so many Bambifan targets that some of the ones I protected were accidently placed under full protection, which is the default. "Penguins of Madagascar" got the full protection treatment, I fear. I've reset the protection level to "semi-protect." --PMDrive1061 (talk) 17:30, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

What is this "Bambifan" thing anyway? I keep hearing it everywhere. Is it some sort of rampant sockpuppeteer, or vandal. And you even have to protect several pages so it doesn't get them. I'm scared! <:( Spongefrog, (talk to me, or else) 17:44, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Bambifan is an annoying arse that thinks it is funny to vandalise Disney articles and sock. Check out this for a list of all his socks. -t'shaelchat 19:32, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Ain't he just the cutest thing, though? Naturally, he's the reason I had to block the article in the first place and boom. More collateral damage because I set the block too high. re: SDPatrolBot

Hi there T'Shael. That's what it's supposed to (and genrally does) do. Could you please provide a link to the page where it didn't do this so I can look into it further? Cheers - Kingpin13 (talk) 20:45, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Oh right. No you're right (although you're actually thinking of level 3 warnings). Once it reaches level 3, it'll just keep handing them out (without ever going to level 4) since removing speedy tags shouldn't really be a blockable offence if that's the only thing the user has done (and especially if the page didn't meet CSD). So the bot just keeps giving them level 3 warnings until an admin comes (admins will be notified due to the CSD tag) and (if appropriate) blocks. The most notable case would be this, you can see the bot starts with level 1, then 2, and then a lot of level 3s, and then an admin comes along, and blocks. - Kingpin13 (talk) 21:06, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Oh, okay. That makes more sense, then. Thanks for clearing that up for me. :) -t'shaelchat 21:27, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Using nowiki on files etc.

Confirmed: Wiki-formatting kicks my arse

Hi, I saw you used nowiki around the file link you added to J.delanoy's page. But an easier way to do this (which also works with categories), is to add a colon after the two square brackets, resulting in :File:<filename>. Best - Kingpin13 (talk) 22:08, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Damn, I knew that there was a way to do that and nowiki didn't really work out the way I wanted. Thanks. :) t'shaelchat 22:10, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
Oh yeah, 'course, nowiki doesn't give you the link does it (I didn't look at the result, just the diff :D). Anyway, not a problem :). - Kingpin13 (talk) 22:12, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
No, you're right, nowiki gives you . And, I had wanted to give J.delanoy a link so that he could look at the fair use rationale for that image. I'm glad that someone who knows what they're doing either stalks my edits or J.delanoy's talk page. ;) t'shaelchat 22:14, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
Ha, still got his talk page on my watchlist from all that vandalism sysops were getting a while ago, and since I recognised your name, and was wondering what mistake you had made this time ;P (since your edit summary was "ah, sorry"). Be the way, happy Independence Day, if you celebrate it or something (I'm not actually American, and the only way I remember the date is from the Bruce Springsteen song "Darlington County" and I was just listening to "Independence Day" now). Anyway, enough rambling, I must be off, since it's nearly 12pm where I am - Kingpin13 (talk) 22:23, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
To be fair, my edit summary was "ack, sorry". ;) It seems I've been rather mistake prone lately. Oh, and thanks for the Independence Day wishes, same to you (even if you aren't American ;)). Ha, those were good times indeed. Sure. :) -t'shaélchat 05:09, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
I'm eagerly awaiting a reply, with a bit of a review if you don't mind. Note though: the article recently came out of the sandbox and the other author and I found little bits of notes to ourselves in it. It would be great (if any still exist) if those were promptly removed. Lәo(βǃʘʘɱ) 05:15, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
 • First, let me say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading this article, and walked away from it infinitely more informed than I had been.
 • The article itself is very well written. I found no flaws in the prose and the spelling and grammar are correct.
 • The article is factually accurate and verifiable, all the references are cited (excellent use of inline citations) and formatted properly. All the references pass WP:RS.
 • It seems appropriately broad in coverage as it gives a total over view of his life, but doesn't go off on tangents that are unrelated to the subject.
 • Neutral in tone, if bias is present it is not evident to me.
 • Excellent use of images to help illustrate the article. All the images are copyright compliant and the captions are concise and informative.
 • I rated it as a 'B' because I am not a good article reviewer, however, I believe it would pass a GA nomination and suggest that you submit it for one. I hope that I was helpful to you, and if you would like clarification on anything that I have said, feel free to ask. :) Best, t'shaélchat 05:39, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
That was a very nice review, thank you. I plan on taking it to GA (and Recog already put it up for DYK). Thanks especially for the nice bits on the images and citations, things I like to hear I did well. Lәo(βǃʘʘɱ) 05:52, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

I suppose asking for a GA review would be asking for too much, but it never hurts. (In all seriousness though, you don't need to; that review was really nice, and I'd understand it if you didn't want to do a GAR.) Thanks again, and have a nice evening. Lәo(βǃʘʘɱ) 06:05, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
I think that it would be better to leave that to someone in the Good Article Wikiproject. Vicenarian (talk · contribs) comes highly recommended. :) Cheers, t'shaélchat 06:29, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Autoreviewer/Archive again

In which I am an idiot

Hi there, me again :). You made a slight mistake when you were archiving (fixed now), here, you added those archived requests under July 2009, even though they were all made in June. I presume you just misread, or thought I had already done all of last months or sumat. Anyway, not a big deal :), just thought I should point it out to you - Kingpin13 (talk) 09:01, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for AGF, but in all actuality I had a massive brain fart. For some reason I thought "hey, it's July, that means that all these requests magically happened in July and not in June like all the bloody date stamps say." I apologise, it shan't happen again. -t'shaélchat 10:19, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

In Which T'Shael Steals My Ideas

I was putting "in which" on collapsed threads before it was cool. :-P Vicenarian (T · C) 14:28, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Haha, true, but you didn't start collapsing threads until I stole the idea from Bubba. :P -t'shaélchat 20:37, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
This is, in fact, true. :) Vicenarian (T · C) 20:42, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
And I, in turn, stole it from... another admin who I can't remember... I will, of course, claim it as my own invention, however. :) – B.hoteptalk• 22:11, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
Will the circle of theft never end? ;) -t'shaélchat 22:13, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

←Nope. I stole using the arrow character to indicate "outdent" from Bubba. And then T'Shael stole it from me. Vicenarian (T · C) 01:32, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

I guess if I'm going to steal things it should be from editors that I don't converse with often. Now only if you would steal always signing your comments from me :) -t'shaélchat 01:34, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Ruthie Henshall

Reference cleanup in progress. I had a thought about getting a picture for the article - you might want to email her agent or her assistant (email addresses here) and ask if there is a photo of her that they are willing to give us for free use. WP:COPYREQ is a useful how-to on requesting permission. I did the same for Lucy Activewear, emailing their PR spokesperson, who was very enthusiastic about getting me pictures of a Lucy store interior and exterior for the article (though has yet to do so). Vicenarian (T · C) 15:04, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Also, I use WP:REFTOOLS for easy citation formatting. It's so easy, a caveman could do it! Vicenarian (T · C) 18:07, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
Done! Put in an image placeholder. Also, there were a few problems I noted along the way with tags. I'm not sure the site labeled as her father's site is actually her father's site (if you check the "My Family" section, no mention of a Ruthie, famous or not, is made). Also, I'm hesitant about The Hoffman Institute citation, as it's an intermediate source (with a potential COI) ostensibly pulling from another source... I'm sure it's fine, but per WP:CITE#SAYWHEREYOUGOTIT, we have to cite the Hoffman website, not the paper. There are also a few other things. The site with biographical data on her kids is pay-only, so that doesn't work as a WP:RS. There's a minor contradiction that needs to be cleared... some copyediting... haha, take a look, I'm making mincemeat out of your baby. Vicenarian (T · C) 19:50, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
Be nice to her, she's all I have in this world...:) Seriously, though, I appreciate you doing this very much. :) t'shaélchat 20:24, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I removed the reference to her "father's" site as it so totally isn't. ;) I can't believe that I didn't think to explore that site more fully, but just googled "David Henshall" and went for broke. I didn't add the ref about her kids, so I didn't know that it was pay only, so I'll add "sourcing her children" to my list for that article. Also, I fixed the contradiction. :) -t'shaélchat 20:31, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

←I am happy to help, of course. Maybe I should write an essay on "scrutinizing sources." There's a LOT of tenuous sourcing I see out there; I mostly just grin and bear it. Even here, I hate the reliance on so many non-independent sources (her official website, her agent's website) because, you know, people can write whatever they want about themselves, even celebrities. I guess that's why our standard is "verifiability" not "truth." Vicenarian (T · C) 20:47, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

This is true. I could write on my official website that I was the first man on the moon, but if it's unverifiable it's still crap. I guess I need to scour through Google and verify everything with independent sources. Is WP:CRAPPYSOURCES coming up? ;) -t'shaélchat 20:50, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
I mean, ideally, all information we add here would have an independent, reliable, third-party source. However, that's not always going to be the case. That's why we cite. We have standards to determine "reliable sources," but really, we leave it up to the reader to decide the precise level of reliability of any particular source. I don't think it's necessary to scour Google for 100% independent sourcing, though it could hurt. Vicenarian (T · C) 20:55, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, if it could hurt, then I won't do it. ;) Seriously, though, there's just not a a whole lot of sources about her that are reliable, but, I will dig deeper. :) And, I really appreciate your help with this. t'shaélchat 20:57, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
No need for the profuse thanks, that's what I'm here for - to make Wikipedia the most accurate, most complete compendium of knowledge known to man. In what way? Vicenarian (T · C) 02:53, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Eh, I guess I really haven't. Most of my comments today have had to do with the 'Pedia. Perhaps what I should have said is, "I haven't really done anything useful, just made comments on talk pages". Actually, I did review an article for Wikiproject Biography today. -t'shaélchat 02:55, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Eh, I think you're allowed a little leeway when chatting on user talk pages... just as long as you don't get into long debates about politics, religion, philosophy, soda brands, etc., you're probably okay. And as for your activity today, I see some good Huggling, and that's never something to sniff at. You also quite patiently put up with my persnicketiness over Ruthie. All in all, a fine Wikiday. Vicenarian (T · C) 03:00, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Persnickety? Please be advised this talk page uses British English and thus, persnickety should be "pernickety". :) I guess today wasn't a total waste, I'm just a tad disappointed, I guess. I did find a reliable reference for Ruthie's children and hubby, though. So, I'm proud of that. :) -t'shaélchat 03:06, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

No more Account Creator?

You never know, and it can't hurt. And yes, I stalk MANY talk pages, muhahahaha. Vicenarian (T · C) 03:56, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I see your point. If I ever need it back, though, I don't think that J.delanoy will have a problem re-adding it to my user rights, as I left in "good standing". I'm glad that you could understand what I said, though, as my French is a little rusty. :) t'shaélchat 04:01, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
What exactly is an account creator. Is it good? Can I be one! Spongefrog, (talk to me, or else) 10:37, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Per WP:PERM, "Account creator: The account creator flag is granted to users who are active in the account request process. The flag removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24 hour period. It also allows users to make accounts with names similar to other accounts. The account creator flag is only given to users who participate in the ACC process and may be removed without notice should a user's participation in the account creation process cease." Vicenarian (T · C) 14:04, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Can I ask another question?

Is there any way of making more archives, with about 30 posts each? And would I have to do it myself, without MiszabotIII. Because archive one has like 70+ posts in it and it makes me sad (feel free to change the heading of this...uh...thing). And can I steal your talk page idea with the boxes that hide text (I don't know what to call them). I'll give you credit! And I'll only use it on the archives, so hardly anybody will see it. Spongefrog, (talk to me, or else) 10:46, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

In fact, just ignore the first part of that comment, I'll do it manually. But don't ignore the second part. Spongefrog, (talk to me, or else) 11:41, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

You can certainly steal the collapsed box idea, as T'Shael stole it from Bubba and I stole it from T'Shael. Continue the cycle of theft! Vicenarian (T · C) 11:50, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
I think you actually need collapser rights to use the collapsing threads. It is a very fine art, knowing when to collapse and when not to. I mean, if you were to collapse every thread, you would find it hard to know when a new comment had been left without checking the history. I believe it should be done in moderation and without willy-nillery (c)B.hotep 2009. However, it seems that nobody patrols the collapsers user-rights request page, so any T, V or Harry can do it. :D – B.hoteptalk• 12:07, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
So are you basically saying I shouldn't do it. I won't if you don't want me to. I'm only going to use it for archives, if it makes any difference. Spongefrog, (talk to me, or else) 16:03, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

I just saw the smiley face, so I'll assume I'm allowed to (I won't yet though). Spongefrog, (talk to me, or else) 16:05, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Hahaha, Sponge, you are correct, there's no special user right needed to collapse threads on your own talk page. Bubba was being his usual playful self. Go right ahead and do it. He does have a good point, though, that collapsing threads too soon can cut off discussion too early and cause you to miss new comments added after the collapse. Basically, you've got to watch the page history like a hawk. Vicenarian (T · C) 17:21, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Aaarrghh! Why do people keep doing that!!? They should put the ":D"s in bold. I'm only going to use it for archives anyway, so it shouldn't matter too much. It's funny that a discussion has went on this long without a single comment by T'Shael. Spongefrog, (talk to me, or else) 17:45, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Yes, humor is often hard to detect online. As for lack of comment from T'Shael, note that this conversation has taken place over only eight hours and then note T'Shael's usual period of activity (keeping in mind his time zone); i.e., he's probably either asleep or out living his life. Like we all should be. :-) (A self-effacing joke, see.) Vicenarian (T · C) 18:20, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

He's had the busy thing on this page all day. I would change it, but he'd sign in as soon as I did it. Spongefrog, (talk to me, or else) 19:05, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Ruthie's Picture

Any thoughts on acquiring one? We could scour free photo sources for one, or we could simply ask her people. I think most celebrities are happy to have Wikipedia pages about themselves with a pretty picture to go along with. Vicenarian (T · C) 02:39, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

There's a picture of her with a compatible license on Flickr, but it's not very good quality. It may be easiest/best to ask her people. What do you think? (Sorry for the long reply time, I never got the new message bar, though.)-t'shaélchat 02:55, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
I say her people. They're more likely to give you a high-quality picture. You must make sure they understand the free license requirement. Vicenarian (T · C) 03:08, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
Do you then have to do the OTRS stuff? -t'shaélchat 03:09, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

A Question

Hello, we corresponded yesterday regarding the Badi Foundation webpage. I've created new content on the Badi Foundation temporary subpage, and am wondering how to have it replace the previous text? Many thanks for your time. Vicali9 (talk) 03:03, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Everything looks in order to me. However, you may wish to ask Accounting4Taste (talk · contribs) to get a second opinion. Best, t'shaélchat 03:19, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Great; thanks so much for your help. Once I do that, do I just edit the page myself or does an admin need to do it? Vicali9 (talk) 03:22, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Per the template that is currently on the article ("Do not edit this page until an administrator has resolved this issue."), I would wait and let an administrator do it. Luckily, Accounting4Taste is an admin. :) -t'shaélchat 03:26, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks to both of you for dealing with this so ably. Everything also looks in order to me and I'll do what's required. Accounting4Taste:talk 12:42, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Ah, yes. From what I recall about page merges, I think the original page should have been deleted, the Temp page moved to the original location and all revisions restored. This maintains the contribution history of both versions in one history whilst keeping the page as it is now. However, what you did, A4T had the same nett effect, so let it lie is what I say! Unless you all want it done official, like. :) – B.hoteptalk• 13:13, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, yes, that was the kind of feedback I was looking for. I think it was the reference to the "temp" page that made me do it the way I did; I seem to have assumed that no one would want the history of a temp page. My mistake; I think the above-noted way is more useful, and I'll do it that way from now on. Accounting4Taste:talk 13:35, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
It can be complicated. I have done it maybe a handful of times in the past. You need a darkened room and full concentration so you don't end up deleting the main page or something. :) – B.hoteptalk• 13:59, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Yes, that can be bad. T'Shael once tried to trick me into thinking you could CSD tag the main page using Twinkle, but I didn't fall for his mischief. Vicenarian (T · C) 14:02, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
I'll wait until you're a sysop, then try it again. t'shaélchat 01:32, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

←Chances of me becoming a sysop within the next twelve months... Magic Eight Ball says, "Outlook hazy, try again." Vicenarian (T · C) 05:28, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

I have reason to believe you are neither a policeman, nor a parole officer, nor a fictional character, so you can't be the real Javert. Therefore, I will be opposing your name change. :P – B.hoteptalk• 22:00, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Haha, yep. I've been quite the sock target lately. Strange. t'shaélchat 22:03, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
I'm a big advocate of fingerless gloves. I firmly believe that 37.4% of all edits deemed vandalistic are actually carried out by people wearing inappropriate handwear; e.g. large ski gloves. Rather akin to wearing high heels to go hiking. Which I haven't done for a while, I can tells ya! – B.hoteptalk• 22:06, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Kingpin The Leftorium and Tea Drinker

Thanks much for tagging that page :). One more attack page to add to my list... wonder how many times a page has to be created before I become notable...? ;). BTW, something funny with your edit summary when you reverted the user's edit to your page. Do you know what that is? - Kingpin13 (talk) 10:28, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Haha, no problem. As to my edit summary, I'm really not sure. All I did was click "[rollback]". Maybe a glitch in the software? t'shaélchat 10:30, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
I guess. Although I wasn't aware that div tags ever work in edit summaries. *Shrug* not really important I guess. Cheers :) - Kingpin13 (talk) 10:31, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

I think they did a MediaWiki update of some sort that resulted in the bug. Notice we get a new message with the cool rollback symbol when we use the rollback feature. Vicenarian (T · C) 05:32, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
I miss the old "Action Complete" message. I felt like I had really accomplished something, then. :) t'shaélchat 05:34, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
Quite yer bitchin', it still allows us to remove undesirable edits in one click, no? Alrighty, then. :) Vicenarian (T · C) 05:40, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

←True. But I don't feel as deified. :) t'shaélchat 05:42, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Get yourself a nice picture for Ruthie, and then we'll see about deification. PS: We may be able to use one of her promotional photos under a claim of fair use, so long as we reduce the resolution and size, use it just on her page and clearly state our rationale. I've seen it elsewhere. The key is that it has to be a picture published for promotional purposes. Vicenarian (T · C) 05:44, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
I asked J.delanoy about using File:RuthieHenshall.jpg but he said it wasn't allowed. t'shaélchat 05:46, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

How depressing. t'shaélchat 06:06, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
These are busy people. You just have to convince them that it's in their "promotional interest" to have a good Wikipedia article. After all, our content does tend to come up very high in Google searches... It's a fine line, though, as you must be careful to advise that you're not going to do PR for them, that the article will be neutral, encyclopedic and may contain unfavourable (but well-cited) information. Vicenarian (T · C) 06:14, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Unfair reverts

Hi again! I would appreciate it if you would stop taking advantage of my horribly slow internet and reverting edits before I can get to them. It is unfair to me because I would like to revert them. You can see an example of this at Miss_Universe_2009 where I obviously clicked revert before you, but the log now says you did it instead. Please slow down or move to the moon so that my latency can become on par with yours. Thanks. (P.S. Damn you're fast.) --Mpdelbuono (talk) 09:48, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Sun's up, it's a new day! Maybe a GA review? Maybe time to tackle a task on my to do list? Who knows?! Vicenarian (T · C) 11:07, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Maybe time to lay off the coffee? ;) I've been meaning to ask you, how did you get involved in reviewing GA noms? t'shaélchat 11:09, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
Not coffee, Red Bull! As for GA, simple. I just... picked an article at WP:GAN, followed the instructions and... viola. No special permission or training needed, really. Be bold. Vicenarian (T · C) 11:11, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
I prefer Earl Grey in the morning, myself. Though, Gevalia Irish Creme is quite tasty, too. Anyway, I'm interested in the Good Article WikiProject, but probably shouldn't join. Don't want to stretch myself too thin, you see. Besides, there's always un-assessed biographies that need my attention. :) t'shaélchat 11:14, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedian of the Day

Congratulations, Javért! For your kindness to others, your hard work around the wiki, and for being a great user, you have been awarded the "Wikipedian of the Day" award for today, July 14, 2009! Keep up the great work!
Note: You could also receive the "Wikipedian of the Week award for this week!

Happy editing!

Hey, congrats formerly-T'Shael-now-Javert. I was hoping you and Vicenarian could accept my apology for my incorrect MfD nom last night. It was a huge mistake, and I shouldn't have overreacted to that userbox. Best, Dylan620 (contribs, logs) 10:09, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

←Can I just say something about that, Dylan? Sorry, I don't mean to make you feel worse or anything and I mean this is the nicest way possible, and what's more hope that you reconcile with each other, but yes: it was a bit of a faux pas. This is quite a welcoming talk page (maybe a bit too much at times, but I ain't complaining!) and it could have been talked out beforehand, I'm sure. But hey, you don't need me sticking my oar in, but I had to say something... All the best. :) – B.hoteptalk• 10:18, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

When I saw your name come up on my watch list, Bubba, I was hoping that you were coming to give me mad props for being the best Wikipedian for July 14. Alas, I was disappointed. :) In all seriousness to Dylan, though, it was a tad upsetting at the time, but I'm over it now. So, no worries. :D Best to you both, Javért | Talk 10:23, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
