Wrong company infos !

Maxis is dead since they are in EA, since 2007 the Maxis logo was removed from The Sims franchise ! It's no longer Maxis but it's EA Games only. You can try to visit the Maxis official site, it was shutdown and redirected to Spore site.

Sadly it's the truth, please see this discussion —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.247.125.69 (talk) 23:31, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Mediocrefilms-avatar.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Mediocrefilms-avatar.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 01:43, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

You're welcome :D Jammy (talk) 22:09, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Same here. I haven't had much substantial to contribute lately, but I catch vandalism on my watchlist. Thanks! Grsz 11 03:52, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Your contributions lately may not be as much but I have seen the contributions you've done in the past, that's why I think you do deserve an award. Jammy (talk) 12:10, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Flags

Yep I think that would be the best option. I always liked the flag icons myself, but it's not my call; their removal is the way the wind is blowing now. I think for the country they are fine, it's just release dates and places of birth and death where they are no longer included. I agree that all of the pages should be consistent, so I'll help out with cleaning them up. Cheers, Gran2 00:01, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! It's nice to get some appreciation! Gran2 07:10, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Haha

How can anybody think this is of dire importance? Grsz 11 14:52, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Sorcerer's Stone reverts

You really need to discuss these sorts of edit. If you are reverted, its time to head to the discussion page. That Sorcerer's Stone is used in the main article for Harry Potter isn't appropriate; as the article is a gateway to the series (moreso than an article on the books), it is important to not the first instance of its use. If you disagree - as I am sure you do, seeing as you have reverted three times already, please use the discussion page to argue for a shift in the current consensus. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 19:59, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

That whole "America needs to be in everything" argument is both stale and, more importantly, wrong. Americans didn't wist the arm of the publisher to change the name of the book; the marketing twits hired by the British publisher did that. America, George Bush and the average American had zero to do with it. Since they did, it's notable. No one is advocating it being used in every instance (and I'd revert any clown who tried), just the first such occurrence. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 20:09, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
I'd point out that the publisher, Scholastic, has corporate branches in the UK (which is where JKR first published Philosopher's Stone), on old Westfield Road in Southam, Warwickshire. After the book's popularity, Scholastic UK descided to market it under a different title in the States, reasoning - with the peculiar British arrogance, that American kids wouldn't "get it". I didn't say that JKR had anything to do with it. The publisher, located in the UK, staffed by UK subjects, headed by UK senior and managing editors made the decision.
As for the second instance in the same article, the second reference should be removed. I will take a look at it right away. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 20:31, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Ahh, but it looks like you already snagged it. Good. However, the first instance f the alternate titling of the film gets mentioned, as well. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 20:35, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Agreed. I will keep an eye out, too. Note that articles that refer to the book and the film, each first instance of either needs to include the alternate title at the first mentioning, and the original thereafter. Is that what we are agreeing to? - Arcayne (cast a spell) 20:44, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Okay. I just wanted to be sure. Have a splendid one. :) - Arcayne (cast a spell) 20:46, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Btw, it was nice working with you. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 20:55, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Cruise_(37).JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. MECUtalk 13:54, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Date formats

FYI: The way the date is keyed in the article should make no difference to how it's displayed if the date is correctly wikified. Each user's "My preferences" setting will control how it displays, regardless of if it's keyed as May 03 = May 03 or as 03 May = 03 May. If you're actually seeing a difference in how it's displayed, then the date/time setting in your preferences tab must be set to "No preference". Change it to what you want to see, and it will show that way no matter how it was keyed. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 15:16, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi, the recent edit you made to The Sims 2 has been reverted, as it appears to be unconstructive. Use the sandbox for testing; if you believe the edit was constructive, ensure that you provide an informative edit summary. You may also wish to read the introduction to editing. Thanks. The Sims

Being different does not constitute having a different article. There has to be a pressing reason for it to be separate, a reason that does not, at the moment, include all other iterations of every The Sims game. The gameplay differences and the plot can be summed up with little effort on The Sims' page. - A Link to the Past (talk) 16:50, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Jammy, you can revert the merge if you wish. Link should start a discussion before merging, and not use one to enforce a unilateral decision. He is right in that the only thing in the article is a plot synopsis, which doesn't exactly make for a good article. You should reference reviews such as those listed on Metacritic[1]. The plot synopsis can be used in articles, and can be seen in many Featured Articles, but does not establish notability. 213.166.17.13 (talk) 12:10, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
I did start one, at WT:SIMS. I got a go-ahead after discussing it. The gist of this all is that even if you added a Reception and a small Plot synopsis, The Sims' article wouldn't be very big at all, eliminating any real reason to split them. - A Link to the Past (talk) 18:31, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Inappropriate

We can do without edit summaries like this one. I've probably reverted that particular edit more than any other Wikipedian and, yes, it gets tiring. But your comment was insulting, unhelpful and wildly inappropriate. Please show more discretion in the future. faithless (speak) 23:42, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Harry categorized as Fictional children

Hi Jammy! I see that you re-introduced the Fictional children category in Harry's article. I think that you are not wrong; however Harry is also listed as a Child superhero. The Child superhero category is a sub-category of Fictional children. It is obvious that if some character is listed as Child superhero, he is also a fictional child. The same criteria applies in other categories, for example a Fictional mass murderer and a Fictional murderer: a mass murderer is obviously a murderer, and the mass murderer category is listed within the Fictional murderer category. Another example is Prisoner and Escapee, and so on. Now that I recall, also "Fictional orphan" is listed within Fictional children, so I think there is no point in adding the Fictional children category if two other categories in the same article are listed there. I have been the only member who has done anything for the project with the exception of a few "founding fathers". I cam along to try and save it from deletion by expanding the scope, making it look better and also setting up the assessment scheme - and what do I get? Abuse. And, when I give my reasons for not having a newsletter, I get screamed at - unless we want it removed without notice for being inappropriate!
BG7even 20:00, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
Ok. Listen to me. I have only just got around to finishing the page. I will then do the portal, and then I will do content. I full appreciate you hard work - it is very good! You may be interested in rollback if you haven't already got it. And also, did you warn the user? If you want I can keep an eye on it - Twinkle is very useful for warning users. ;-)
Me putting my name at the top was an accident. I swear. I was thinking/working on another wiki at the time. Forgive me. And the latest format is the best.
Thankyou,

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Image copyright problem with Image:Dudley DursleyHPOP.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Dudley DursleyHPOP.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

 • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
 • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

SS America

Just to let you know, I reverted this edit of yours on SS America (1940). I did this because when one follows the link trail of the image that you restored, there's a problem with the image on Commons. Ultimately, the image file is a 404, which I find somewhat odd, since Wikimedia sites almost never hit a 404 error. After all, they usually point somewhere, rather than to an error. Dead Set

Greetings, Jammy0002. I see that you moved "Dead Set" to "Dead Set (album)", and then changed "Dead Set" from a redirect to a disambiguation page. I understand that some readers would type in "Dead Set" when looking for the TV series, but there are about 50 articles that link to "Dead Set". Now instead of those articles linking to the article about the album, they link to the disambiguation page. You can see a list of these articles if you go to "Dead Set" and click on "What links here". I would therefore request that you do one of the following two things: (1) Edit the links in the 50 or so articles, to link to the article about the album instead of to the new disambiguation page. You would need to replace "Dead Set" with "Dead Set" in each of the articles. (2) Move "Dead Set (album)" back to "Dead Set", i.e. put things back the way they were. Since the album article has a "hatnote" for the TV series, readers looking for the TV series could still get there in one additional click. I believe that if you try to do this move, you'll find that you don't have enough authority to do it, but you can request it at Wikipedia:Requested moves. If you reply here with your thoughts on this subject, I'll see what you say. Thanks. Mudwater (Talk) 21:10, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Hold on, I was mistaken. Many of the approximately 50 articles that link to "Dead Set" do so because they have the Grateful Dead navbox template. I just updated the template to link to the renamed article instead of to the disambiguation page. That should fix most of the links. It will be necessary to wait a while, most likely a few hours or even a day, to see which articles still need to be fixed, because it takes that long for the changed template to be propagated on the Wikipedia servers. I think the best course of action is to do nothing further until that happens. There might be only a small number of articles to fix after that. Mudwater (Talk) 21:25, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the changes that you've made, but there are still a number of articles that link to the disambiguation page, as you can see by using "What links here". Some need to be changed to link to the album article, while others (which were incorrect before) should be changed to link to the TV series article. It would be great if you could take care of that.
