Featured media template edit
Did you know that there is a template for the talk page of featured media on the en-Wiki; see File talk:Rooster04 adjusted.jpg? You could add {{WikiProject Birds|class=FM}} to the talk page of your photographs that are featured on en-Wiki. As far as I am aware, this probably does not include articles featured on Commons, which is a different project. Snowman (talk) 11:11, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
- I did not. I guess I could add them to my images over about 30 minutes or so I think. That said, it seems like it would be smarter to do it with a bot on every image in Wikipedia:Featured_pictures/Animals/Birds. JJ Harrison (talk) 11:21, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

- I doubt it would be missed. It came up somehow on a Facebook page actually. I clicked through because several of the guy's kids or grandkids went to my school and so I recognised the name. Hi, I was admiring the images in your Featured Picture Gallery. That's a pretty awesome collection. I noticed that you gave a manually input "23" as your age. There is an age template that automatically calculates your age that will save a bit of updating every year, as in the following: 35.
Important: Do not use your exact date of birth. You don't want to be giving out too much information that can aid identity thieves.

Just for information (not a criticism) the first two featured pictures on your user page have the titles swapped, that is, the first picture is labelled 'Curlew Sandpiper' and the second 'Pacific Golden Plover' when the opposite is the case. I wish I could persuade you of the the importance of recognising truly practically free content, without onerous restrictions, at FP, but that's not why I'm here. Few contributors can claim to have produced content in sufficient quantity and quality to make a mark in Wikipedia's vast collection of articles and photographs. I think you are an exception. Your collection of thousands of completely free images and hundreds of featured pictures is quite amazing. These are not the sort of photographs anyone could produce (like my meagre efforts). You investment in time and commitment to take them, describe and catalogue them (and your investment in the kit required too), along with your obvious talent, makes quite an impressive donation. Even thought. the image seem like the comcast building is incomplete, it give a good scale of the buildings relationships to one another esp. - Hi there. I used a Canon MP-E 65mm with focus stacking for that photo. But I have since sold that lense. I'd recommend starting with a normal macro lens first though. JJ Harrison (talk) 00:22, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
- Now I photographing with CyberShot Sony DSC-w690 witch I get together with Canon cam in January 2012. But the canon cam has state lens. I have practice in macro photographing since 2007 (with DSC w30). Now I wont to get professional macro lens for making insect pictures in Latvia, but in future I gonna go to voyage round the tropics and subtropics, and that so I wont to make best quality photos. Hey, JJ, Um... we have an article on Preah Pithu, and it really needed a good photo, as the only photo in it was a long shot through a crack in masonry. Artistic, but not very informative. Back in the WT:BIRDS archive, you mentioned something about creating a GreaseMonkey script to capitalize bird names. How would that work, exactly? Wouldn't it just have to check a really huge list of known strings and change their case? If there were a way to automate it, I can think of quite a number of style disputes such a tool could help alleviate, far beyond vernacular name capitals. Even aside from that, I'd previously thought of a {{vernacular}} template to wrap around vernacular names, since some botanical and a few non-bird zoological niches also like to capitalize these. A Lua script could probably handle it with aplomb, including possibly different handling of capitalization after a hyphen, depending on preference.
