Welcome To The Darkside

Think this is speediable per WP:CSD#G6? I see no reason to drag it out for the full five days of an AfD — after all, if it's unanimous that the artist isn't notable, then in theory, it would also be unanimous that their album isn't notable either, right? Therefore, I would feel that this would fall under "non-controversial". Ten Pound Hammer Farfel and his otters(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 02:48, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for adding all of this, as for the railway bridge I wasn't completely sure about it's notability so that's I had redirected it to the Le Gardeur road bridge article at first. Maybe more info will be found on it as well as the De Gaulle Bridge. Eventually I would have to add articles on the three city of Gatineau bridges across the Gatineau River as well as they are deserving an article (especially the A-50 bridge).--JForget 23:59, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Why did you unblock this editor? seresin ( ¡? ) 04:27, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

I've told him if more vandalism is coming from this user name, compromised account or not, there will be no more chances left, it will be a permanent block. I'm giving the benefit of the doubt on that case but it is his last chance otherwise it is over for this account. Hopefully after I gave him a 3 month-block (I know it took much longer to respond because he didn't used the unblock request template), he will learn that he needs to make sure his account is protected (and password is changed and now safe) from others using his computer and that he learned WP:CIVIL and WP:NPA. --JForget 19:36, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
Hm. I guess I just don't think edits like this or this merit second-chances, especially given the incivility in the unblock request. As a side note, what brought him to your attention again? Was it the comment above by Deathtopplintheir40s? seresin ( ¡? ) 05:58, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Deletion Review Request

Hi -- I'm sorry if I'm not doing this exactly right, not a wiki expert. I was surprised to see that the Most_Great_Name page was deleted. The issue seems to have been a lack of English-language sources, but there is a publisher who is now producing translations of some famous Medieval texts that expressed the belief that these symbols represent the "Ismul Azam," the Greatest Name of God. This legitimately was a belief held by occultists throughout the Middle Ages. Here is one quote from Nineveh Shadrach's book *Love, Healing, Prosperity* pp. 83-84 (Shadrach, Nineveh. 2006. Love Healing Prosperity: Through the Occult Powers of the Alphabet. Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada: Ishtar Publishing.):

It is considered the greatest name of the Divine and the seal of King Solomon... Research shows that they were applied and used in magic from early Jewish times and found on vases dating back to before the birth of Christ. They were used by the earliest Jewish occultists as a tool to raise and ascend their souls up to the Throne of God.

Then the series of symbols is shown on page 84 (you can see for yourself using the "search in this book" feature on amazon.com)

Yonderboy (talk) 21:32, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

In order to request a deletion review you can simply go to Wikipedia:Deletion review and follow the steps mentionned there so that a discussion will ensue. Although (considering it was a clear consensus since there were new users and sockpuppets in the discussion that does influence little or not in the outcome) first, it would be go to do the changes needed to correct this issue. I could send you a copy of the deleted article so you can make the changes and then do your deletion review request. --JForget 15:38, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Re. Gladiatus

Your recently reverted an IP edit on the article. I just wanted to inform you that the IP was actually helping Wikipedia by trying to provide readers with a warning. The real vandalism was incured by OnurRC. Please, it would be nice of you just to post a quick 'sorry' message on the IP page, as he/she may have taken it personally. While I'm here, I request you warn/temporarily ban the above mentioned user. Why? I told him before not to hide a mugging link on that page, and against my advice he went and did it again. More strict action needs to be taken. Regards, A Prodigy ~In Pursuit of Perfection~ 16:49, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

By the way, are you going to do anything about OnurRC? You'll need to set an example to him, and show that unprodictive and vandalistic edits such as his ones to Gladiatus, are not tolerated on Wikipedia. Regards, A Prodigy ~In Pursuit of Perfection~ 20:27, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of the article "Techniche"

Hi! I have just noticed that someone had placed a deletion tag on the article "Techniche" which now has been deleted. I don't think that he checked the history of the article before placing that tag. A deletion tag had been placed on it long time back and successfully defended[[2]]. It was given on the page that the event is held during this time of the year, so the persons responsible for the Wikipedia entry were not present to defend the deletion this time round.

But, I'm very sure that after going through the earlier deletion logs, someone can un-delete it because its Wikipedia's responsibility as the person responsible didn't go through the article history properly.

This is one more reason something better be done about it[[3]]. You can clearly notice that one red entry which has got deleted because one can't always be present to defend deletions on Wikipedia. I think its also the responsibility of the "deletion tagger" to go through the article history properly!

I didn't who to talk about this thing, so I am messaging you. Thanks for your help. --Sainik1 (talk) 21:12, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Can the old article be restored? Because then the organizers of the event can improve on the existing article and keep checking on it regularly for any spam. I'm informing User:Mangojuice, the administrator who nominated the article for deletion about the same. I'm very sure that I can defend the article for WP:V, if it arises, the only problem being that it might again happen while I'm away for exams. I have loads of notable evidence for the verifiability of any fact written about it on Wikipedia.

--Sainik1 (talk) 21:36, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

I've sent userfied copies of the article to your user page so you can improve before returning to mainspace. If returned it might susceptible for deletion especially the spammed-version. See my reply on your talk page. JForget 14:56, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Proofreading request

Hi. I was wondering if I could trouble you with a proofreading request on the article Walter-Patrice O'Leary. I created the article using as the primary source an entry from L'Encyclopédie de la Francophonie. However, I am not actually fluent in French, so while I can translate basic information, many of the nuances of the language are lost to me. I am asking you because I noticed that you are a member of WikiProject Quebec (the article is within the scope of the WikiProject) and have indicated that French is your native tongue. Would you take a look at the article? –Black Falcon (Talk) 23:45, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

OK, thank you. :) I had encountered more trouble than usual translating the organisation names in this article (as opposed to, say, Émile-Dostaler O'Leary), so I wanted to have the article checked by another editor. Thanks again. Best, –Black Falcon (Talk) 00:05, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
Yeah some of them I don't know exactly the English signification or maybe they don't have an English version. Some of the media are pronouncing it in French as well. --JForget 00:07, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Logo erabliere.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Logo erabliere.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

"Fluff"?

Any questions, concerns and other fluff...

I'm curious, and a bit disconcerted, that you consider questions and concerns to be "fluff." If they are, then what is "substantial"?

I'm also wondering why I've been blocked for "vandalism." I've been posting information that someone doesn't like, but if this is truly a user-created site, difference of opinion shouldn't be sufficient to block a member. It would never occur to me to report for vandalism, or ask to have blocked, the person who keeps removing what I've posted.

I am as far from a vandal as you will ever encounter, but I do reserve the right to edit a page if I think further information is germane to the subject, even if another reader doesn't agree with me. That is the meaning of "user-created," isn't it? I can keep posting, s/he can keep removing it, and we can go on thus forever, but why should I be accused of vandalism any more than the person who removes what I've written?

And for the administration of the site to block me for "vandalism" without a word to me or any opportunity for me to respond to whatever charges have been made is unconscionable and makes me wonder just how "wiki" this site really is.

Penguinlady (talk) 19:57, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

I have not found any evidence of you being blocked under that username so as far as I know you have never being blocked. The edit you made yesterday was reverted as it was content about some rumors which were not supported by a source at all. Generally rumours, possibilities, controversies or claims must be supported by sources to avoid libel or WP:BLP violations. As for fluff I meant like congratulations, awards/barnstars, thanks messages, etc.--

JForget 22:05, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

When I went to the page in question and tried to edit, I got a screen saying I'd been blocked, and inside the box it said "vandalism."

I continue to make that edit because there is a substantial body of evidence in support of my statement, including letters written by the subject of the article. She has been dead for nearly 200 years, so libel isn't an issue. Extensive research that supports what I'm trying to post has been done by the author of one of the books cited at the bottom of that page.

Without my edit, a significant episode in the life of the subject of the article is never even mentioned, and the article is thereby incomplete and not useful to the reader. My edit doesn't claim it as fact, but as speculation heavily supported by scholarly research, and as such, deserves mention.

And again, despite the four tildes, my name appears here...

(Penguinlady (talk) 19:57, 22 September 2008 (UTC))

Well then the next time you add this content can you please provide a reliable source that supports this possibility so at least it can be verifiable? Thanks! --JForget 14:26, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Not too fast...

Sorry, this is a pet peeve. You reverted the vandal edit by Hackman199, but the version you reverted to was that left by Tonytraj in the previous five edits. I ask around but apparently there is no tool to make it any easier to find all the (prior) bad edits. I just worry the tools that exist make it too easy to go fast. Maybe go slower depending on the article? Like on Allah or Pope John Paul II‎, but Yam... zoom? Shenme (talk) 00:58, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Sorry about that, it is rare that more then one registered user do vandalism consecutively before reverts.

Pop-ups might be the best tool of all for that situation,. However I believe Huggle uses it but looking the contribs from Huggle reverters the tool is going way too fast with 50+ edits in less then 5 minutes in some cases compared to myself doing that much 4x slower. Good thing I don't use Huggle. With the IPs it's easier though. JForget 01:05, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

List of Gujjars

Hi! I just ran into the List of Gujjars when going through candidates for speedy deletion. The tagged version was obviously a big mess, but as I looked through the deleted revisions I found one that I thought was worth keeping (although it obviously needs better sourcing). I noticed that all the afd-comments made after the big cleanup were along the line of "categories are better for organizing such information" which is contrary to what Wikipedia:Categories, lists, and navigation templates says (categories and lists are allowed to coexist and overlap). Since you closed the AfD I'm interested to hear what you think. Have a good day/ Pax:Vobiscum (talk) 19:24, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

In the past well before being an admin I used to vote for a preference for the categories ahead of the lists, not sure if I remember if it was because of duplication or it was more easily maintainable via categories - although I think they were long lists - not sure though. This one is not a long list and should be easily maintainable and should also have a category especially since there are numerous occurrences of that. Though we can ask the community on WP:DRV to see what they think about it - but other then the need improve the lead and to add extra sources, it sounds okay.--JForget 21:15, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
If you are ok with the current version I see no reason to take it to DRV. I'll notify the appropriate wikiproject and see if they can help with sourcing. Pax:Vobiscum (talk) 23:46, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Proposing my project for creation

Hi, I have just finished my draft: User:IRP/ArticlesForCreation/Upper tropospheric cyclonic vortex. Do you think it should be created (moved into the main space)? Do you think it needs some work? If it needs work, will you tell me the areas that need it? -- IRP 01:49, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Is Upper tropospheric cyclonic vortex considered a stub? -- IRP 00:35, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Why don't you take your hypocrisy and shove it?

The three of you have accused me of "vandalism". Fine, that's your opinion, you can have it. But you cannot have your version of the facts Look at the comments that you three have left me:

When removing text, please specify a reason in the edit summary and discuss edits that are likely to be controversial on the article's talk page. Please do not remove content from pages without explanation, as you did with this edit to Poughkeepsie (city), New York. If you continue to do so, you will be blocked from editing.

Your allegations are provably FALSE. I NEVER FUCKING ONCE MADE AN EDIT WITHOUT EXPLANATION OR SPECIFYING A REASON. What is more, I made this point twice, and you CONTINUED to ignore me.

Is it too much to ask that you follow your own fucking advice and leave edit summarys (not those automated things) and even more importantly, READ the edit summaries of those whom your accusing of vandalism?
