OK; people does anyone knows how to get rid of a hacker? No, I am not imagining things. Programs are getting installed without I ever installed them, Windows is installing strange features and changes, all by itself, things move around, tabs are closed without me doing that. Hope i will be able to finish this message without anyone closing the tab. --Hafspajen (talk) 12:58, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
OOPS, tabbs messing around again. It started like a couple of month ago, around April and I kinda left. When I again resumed my regular Wiki activities, and here we go again, it started rather massively again. It's not normal that the control panel is opening all by itself, that several tabs are opening and closing all by itself, time to time, clicking and clicking... and things that are moving around when you don't touch them. Pages started to open and close all by themselfes on my computer, and I never touched it at all, all by themselfes. No, things are not moving around all by themselfes, that's not a virus. A virus is not editwaring with you all day on what picture you should have on your background screen, changing it and putting different ones in. Things dong go crazy like that all alone. And later everything dissapeared and it turned pure BLACK all the time. Of course is hacking. It's just silly, because I don't have enemies in real life and there is nothing anyone would want to know about me or do things like this to me (in real life). I presume it is aiming towards to make me stop editing Wiki, or making editing unpleasant. I guess. Any ideas are interesting, how to make it stop, - except more hacking. Guys, hacking is illegal, you know. Hafspajen (talk) 18:40, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
Hehe. Or an advanced poltergeist. Marty, I don't belive you. You are not the kind of guy, if you wanted to know anything, you would probably simply asked. Hafspajen (talk) 19:11, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

Thanks everybody for ideas.
And Dear Hacker.
Scuse me but what exactly are you looking for?
Do you really think that I keep anything on those computers you are targeting, worth making those many consistent efforts for, now do you?
I have noticed that those were hacked like way back in April, already. And ... I can't be so important for you that you want to hang after me like this desperately, day after day, like dog without a home, now can I? It's all in your head, it's just imagination.
I am really not that exiting and interesting at all, you know. Hafspajen (talk) 16:34, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
Hafs, if you're still having problems like you described earlier, I'd highly recommend saving any important files from your computer onto a flash drive and totally reinstalling your operating system. You really don't want somebody to have total access on your machine like that. Zeng8r (talk) 00:10, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
Not seen you around for a while Hafs, which is a shame. If you think your computer or your account has been hacked into, you might want to try using your account from a different machine. Or even moving your account to a new name? Martinevans123 (talk) 19:54, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

Wow, is someone helping Hafs get rid of the hacker/hacking? That is very strange and awful. I don't have any advice but I hope someone is helping her or finding someone who can. Softlavender (talk) 01:30, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
Indeed. Bgwhite is assistance being provided to this user via email and other backchannels? Irondome (talk) 01:50, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
Your attempted ping won't work since your four tildes were used with a typo version, so I'll ping Bgwhite .... See Irondome's question above. Softlavender (talk) 02:23, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
@Irondome and Softlavender: I know Hafs has had some help locally. Both Drmies and I are in contact with Hafs via email. Hafs mentioned being unable to log into Wikipedia as it was refusing their password. I've blocked Hafs account as a precaution. Bgwhite (talk) 04:39, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
@Bgwhite and Drmies: My concern is that if her computer is hacked, then how do you know her email is actually reaching her and not the hacker? If her WP password was changed, then the hacker had (and presumably still has) access to, and possibly control over, her email. You really need some way to ascertain that you are corresponding with Hafs and not the imposter. I know she's overseas for both of you, but is there any way you might call her? Softlavender (talk) 04:47, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
Softlavender I have the same concern about Hafs email too. I don't have Hafs' phone number. Hafs never mentioned blocking their account, that is completely on me. :) Bgwhite (talk) 05:00, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
Phil has her phone number and has in the past spoken to her directly (or at least met her in person, and thus presumably has her phone number), if you want to avail yourselves of her assistance. Softlavender (talk) 05:22, 30 September 2015 (UTC): edited Softlavender (talk) 05:26, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
My understanding, such as it is, is that Hafs feels there is some risk that this account could be used maliciously, so if it isn't blocked, it needs to be vigilantly watched. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 16:24, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

But one just must ask the obvious question, qui bono? No, it's not Coat. He never wanted me to quit Wikipedia, he just likes to quarrel with me on art articles. And sometimes he does have a point too. No, this is different. This is a very different guy. It started discreetly in April and escalated like in July-August into something rather brutal. It is somebody who wants me to stop editing Wikipedia and doing all the things I did around. And he doesn't care if he is using illegal methods, like hacking. Somebody who has no respect for any laws, rules or fair play. Hafspajen (talk) 15:41, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
I literally have no idea. I consider the other suspect to be too much of an idiot to do something like that (but I know there is some evidence pointing that way). Xanthomelanoussprog (talk) 16:51, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
Dunno, somebody said that the more simple the more efficient methods. Hafspajen (talk) 16:55, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
I'm with Xanterix. I think your email account got abused. It takes much more than an old(-fashioned) detective to hack a computer. Drmies (talk) 22:14, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
Skeptics, skeptics, skeptics. Yes, my email account got abused,Drmies. But it happened because the computer was hacked. And don't tell me that I put sensors in my own computer, and by the way what is that user Pnp_20001 doing on my computer? And the <Brother- device driver that just popped out of nowhere? And my passwords that were removed from my computers too, out of nowhere - suddenly nobody asking for password any more; I just got in - without any password control at all, just "welcome" - huh? Where did the password go?? Why was the screen getting black for hours? Who is closing the tabs on me the moment I go on Wikipedia from those computers? Who is logging me out from my own computer when I log in to Wikipedia? Where are all those weird programs coming form? Who changed my password on Wiki? Is that a poltergeist? Eh? And WHY would I invent such things, to start with, Drmies? Hafspajen (talk) 14:02, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
User Pnp_20001 is just a process Microsoft uses when installing a device. Perhaps you have a faulty device somewhere. Lots of people have their computers hacked, usually by criminals looking for credit card info and so on. However that wouldn't result in the kind of behaviour you describe. If your Wikipedia password is not obvious, then it's quite impossible it's been hacked except if you stored it somewhere where it could be found or if you happen to type it out each time you log in. NSA itself couldn't do it, not could people in Wikipedia itself give it away (because it's encrypted). I suggest you just get your computer serviced or get a knowledgeable friend to look at it. I also suggest you back up all your files right now in case it fails. 128.90.60.217 (talk) 15:43, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
There are backed up like ages ago. And the rest of it, too. Since I am not to knowledgeable about computer, maybe that user:Pnp_20001 is OK, but the rest is still not. There are tons of things that happened with those computers, and it would take ages to describe all the weird thing going on. I rather won't discuss those things, because it is SOO OBVIOUSLY HACKED that there absolutely no doubt of it. The cursor moving all by itself, (he is not using that any more) tabs closing down when one I not closing them, flashes from the camera, programs added that there were not there the day before.... no doubt of it whatsoever, at all. Hows the weather over there? Hafspajen (talk) 15:51, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
Weather's fine here. A bit cold. Those computers? Are you in fact part of a remote network? That would be very different. Minimum precautions would be switch off your computer each time you finish work. I should have mentioned you shouldn't store your password in your browser. That's not secure. Use a password manager. I'm just trying to reassure you. Anyone seriously hacking into your computer, NSA for example, wouldn't be doing that kind of stuff. You wouldn't know. 207.207.22.53 (talk) 04:54, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
No, not willingly part of any remote network - but I might have been MADE to be, AGAINST MY WILL, of course. By the way, the FIRST password was a crappy, old and very short one. I guess that was the beginning of all the troubles to start with... unfortunately. Hafspajen (talk) 14:55, 23 October 2015 (UTC)
Sounds like perhaps somebody broke in through Windows Remote Desktop. It's supposed to let a technician fix your computer from afar, but if hackers tricked you into letting them in through that door, they could take full control over your computer as you describe and install any type of awful spyware / malware / viruses they wanted to. You really need to either reinstall Windows or just buy a new computer, imo. Zeng8r (talk) 16:31, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
Zeng8r - exactly. AND he is adding some kind of extra programs to it every time one reinstalls the Windows ... to, but I am glad you get it. Bercause that is exactly what is happening, and Bluetooth programs and family control programs are added and what not. And if I removed them, the next day were back again. And if you are inside a coputer, there is not much trouble changing a Wiki pasworh or whatever they like to do. RAT is probably involved too. And it is illegal, of course. Hafspajen (talk) 16:56, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
I don't know the details of the recent troubles that Hafs has been having, but if an account has been compromised, it does seem more likely that someone just guessed a password or something similarly simple, because why would someone go to any more trouble just to cause mischief to a Wikipedia editor - especially to one who is interested in subjects like fine art and dogs? PaleCloudedWhite (talk) 22:29, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
NO, it was not guessed. It was nothing simple and obvious like I love Paley or I love MartinEvans or so. Hafspajen (talk) 12:54, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
I hope "see you" doesn't mean "see you"—are you leaving permanently, Hafs? It's too bad you don't allow pictures of cats, because I saw a Kobayashi Kiyochika show recently and they had a "making-of" this picture, which used a ridiculous number of wooblocks (24, I think?), some of which were just subtle shades of green layered over other subtle shades of green. Curly Turkey🍁¡gobble! 23:01, 14 October 2015 (UTC)

If we add the artist background or historical context above, it won't seem so crowded. What do you think?--Godot13 (talk) 05:42, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
We should think about a DYK nom for this (I hoped we had a little more time). In terms of off-the-wall type DYK facts we have two options: that the painting was bought by an American jeweler who outbid the Tzar, or that the painting was once in the collection of Robert Ripley (as in Ripley's Believe It or Not!)...-- (talk) 18:03, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
Godot13, I would go with the Ripley hook. And I would make it "pictured." If I am included as a cocreator, I have a spare DYK review I would be pleased to contribute. 7&6=thirteen (☎) 18:19, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
7&6=thirteen- I'll leave that up to Hafs. I'm away until Saturday and my notes and additional refs for this are at home. I'll try to reconstruct what I can.--Godot13 (talk) 02:03, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, go for it. Where is the nomination, by the way, Godot13? Hafspajen (talk) 15:55, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
The page became a live article sooner than expected. I get home Saturday and can add additional info and have the DYK submitted by Sunday with three nominators 7&6=thirteen, if that works...--Godot13 (talk) 21:09, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
7&6=thirteen- The article has been nominated at DYK, Template:Did you know nominations/A Boyar Wedding Feast can you check it over. I went with two versions of the same hook, if you have any other suggestions, feel free to add... I'm not sure if I made any other mistakes (DYK is not my strength...)--Godot13 (talk) 01:33, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
Hafs- I ordered and received this book. I'm going to give it a read through and thought it may give the added insight to push this article toward a GAN for us...--Godot13 (talk) 03:20, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

Who should be running this year? Who should be re-elected this year? What are the main criteria? And what sort of picture best tells the story of each potential candidate? Inquiring minds want to know.
WP:ACE2015 , rules are here , potential candidates must be willing to reveal their full legal name to WMF, age 18+, at least 500 mainspace edits. Self-nomination period is Nov 6th through Nov 17th.
Here are some people that ran last time, which is an example of a seriuz voterguide format, no pictures whatsoever.
Seventyfour, it's your fault that I nominate for FPs. You SAID I should start working on CAs, but that's not my strong side. So, I went in for FA.ARB But COM??? Are you CRAZY? I think you should try. Maybe they will accept an IP user... Nice pics those above!!!! Hafspajen (talk) 15:29, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

But on the serious topic, no Mandy, I'm not saying *you* should run for arbcom. You are a notorious wiki-criminal on the Swedish Wikipedia, you will never get enough votes to be on arbcom! :-) But what I am saying, is that you should write a nominations-guide, and a voter-guide. Instead of running yourself, you can just help pick the rulers of Kvenland Arbcom, with your wise advice. In other words, since I cannot be an arbcom candidate as an anon-editor (see rules), and since you are afraid of felines, I suggest we come up with some names to trick into doing the dirty work for us urge politely that they run for arbcom. Who do you know that has a lot of edits, and a lot of time on their hands, who would make a GOOD arbcom-member? Here is a good place to start, skim through this list of names, WP:List_of_Wikipedians_by_number_of_edits, then tell me which wikipedians on the list you know and like. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 15:44, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
How about Yngva?? Hehe. Hafspajen (talk) 15:51, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
Would be an excellent pick, but would probably end in a heart attack. Somebody more pugnacious, like a prizefighter. Strong-hearted, but also strong-headed. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 16:04, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
Disqualified by having few edits, no time on their hands, and an almost complete ignorance of Wiki-rules. Also my head's jammed in an icebox. Xanthomelanoussprog (talk) 18:33, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
Agree about drmies, but we will have to bushwack him, to get him to agree. Xanthomelanoussprog, is a wikipedian I've never met, but Hafs's say-so is a strong recommendation. But okay, since editcountitis was brought up, let us try this. Skim through here, and pick out the names you trust. (Hafs o'course... but also you too User:Xanthomelanoussprog, since you refuse to do the dirty job yerself :-) Here are the people that have 50k edits, are currently admins, never ran for arbcom before, and have been active in the past month:

Some of these names I recognize, and some you probably do as well. Let's pick some, and see if they can be urged to run. p.s. Have you seen the movie referent? 75.108.94.227 (talk) 22:40, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

WAHAAA; Rosy, Rosy. Hafspajen (talk) 13:54, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
Dennis Brown? Rosiestep? Bbb23? I've not heard of 90% on the list. Xanthomelanoussprog (talk) 14:05, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
Two of the three names you picked, I also have interacted with, and agree they would be good picks. (Plus I like the looks of Rosiestep, from scanning their recent contribs and their talkpage-interactions.) I also like Hafs's suggestion of Drmies, who I've interacted with, but will mightily resist I believe. Thus, I suggest we three, give those four, some peer pressure on usertalk, to see if they can be urged to run. Or failing that, to see if they can be urged to skim through this list, and pick some other likely potential candidate for arbcom. Arbcom elections demand a self-nom, so we have to be persuasive in our arguments. :-) I will make some posts, and ask hafs to decorate them for me. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 21:08, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
Hafspajen , I mean Mandy , if you druthers -- will you please tastefully (no cats! :-) decorate the following:
User:Rosiestep is thinking it over. User:Dennis Brown is resisting, but has suggested User:Casliber (who is also resisting). User:Drmies is ignoring us with dignity, but will not be able to do so forever, because Hafspajen and myself can be very insistent wikipedians. I have also brought User:Bbb23 into the mess, who was nom'd for admin by Drmies and Dennis, and thus p'raps they'll try to pass the buck thataway once more? There are three candidates running at present, see WP:ACE2015/C.
User:Salvidrim! , first edit Jul'10 , rfa 107/33/6 in Jan'13 by Sergecross73/TParis , 18k edits , never ran for arbcom before
User:Hawkeye7 , first edit Jun'05 , rfa 70/21/13 in Nov'09 by self-nom , 60k edits , never ran for arbcom before
Hafspajen, please look over the contribs of these people (see if they have added any pictures of cats especially! ick!) and then start your voterguide page at User:Hafspajen/ACE2015, with your initial thoughts on the candidates, and if you want, on potential candidates. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 10:45, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
A lot of good people on that list. Ask King of Hearts. Tedder. MQS. Jayron. Bencherlite. Ed. Gatoclass. Ponyo. Guy. Don't ask me--I don't know. Drmies (talk) 23:42, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
MQS I never thought of, would be a fascinating member to have on the team. Big fan. --kelapstick(bainuu) 00:01, 9 November 2015 (UTC)

A Meat Stall with the Holy Family Giving Alms
Hi Hafspajen: Per our discussion on my talk page, I have nominated A Meat Stall with the Holy Family Giving Alms for FP consideration. The discussion is located here. Feel free to add yourself as a co-nominator if you'd like. Cheers, North America1000 16:50, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
GOSH; uh. Well, Northamerica1000 - I suggest that you and Crisco 1492 (who uploaded the picture) write an article together, and then try to co-nom with HIM. That will surely do. In worst case I will help you guys to write that article, either way, you should co-nom with him, he is the one who uploaded of the pic... It's kinda his. Hafspajen (talk) 12:48, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
I withdrew the nom, because people weren't supporting per a lack of content about the painting in the Pieter Aertsen article. North America1000 21:59, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

This sentence is not a captionNeither is this one.
Okay, pay attention agent nejapsfaH. I will use your secret codename so nobody knows it is you. So, now we have some arby's people that wanna wield the sword of truth and balance the scales of justice. Or something.
But nobody can vote yet. People are still asking them questions. Other people are writing voter-guides. See these:
Raw heatmap data, four candidates excluded, question-phraseology somewhat questionable.Blue line is votes-cast-per-hour, green dots are mass-message-events, red-line shows WP:HIGHSCOREs of average voter during that hour.Blue is total editcountitis for 2015 electorate (as of November 26th so far), red is 2014, yellow is 2013.
#27 User:SilkTork/ArbNotes2015 , 55% finished (interestingly, measures likelihood of winning, rather than the usual support/oppose type of voter-guide)
Lastly, arb-voters will start have started casting their ballots on November 23rd , voting is open for a couple weeks, until December 6th.
Special:SecurePoll , must be logged in , not currently blocked , have 150+ edits to mainspace , and created your username before November 2015
Between now and then, lots of discussion about the candidates on their question-pages. You already asked one, I am writing up mine. Delightfully yours, 75.108.94.227 (talk) 04:04, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
Updated some more... there are now 21 official voterguides and 21 official candidates. :-) 75.108.94.227 (talk) 15:32, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
Update again: I added the cat to my NO-GUIDE, now that I am back to decent, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:40, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
Gerda, you have been added to the categorized voter-guides. Do you also want to be added to the advertised voter-guides at {{ACE2015}} as well? Do you also-also want to be added to the WP:Wikipedia_Signpost/2015-11-25/Arbitration_report comparison-chart in the WP:SIGNPOST right now? My interpretation of your voterguide would look ROUGHLY something like this, which you are free to tweak of course:
^This is an exceedingly rough translation of Gerda's thinking, which necessarily involves a lot of guesswork and reading between the lines; she gives no explicit support-column, and no explicit oppose-column either. Those marked as Y++ were ones where she boldfaced their answers as being supported, the others are mostly spectrum-guesstimates, which are then re-calibrated to vaguely match the available slots.
Gerda, let me know if you want to be "advertised" (which does not require a colorized chart), or even advertised-and-also-in-the-signpost. Best, 75.108.94.227 (talk) 14:15, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
Smiling at your interpretation ;) - Don't advertise votes, but if you can advertise the thoughts, fine. For votes, go by Bishzilla, just double her line if needed. I - needless to say - didn't vote by answers alone, but by knowledge of the candidates. I supported the ones with some bold (Cas Drm Kei Kel Opa Tim), and opposed all others. As I said on the talk: I can't support an arb who voted for desysopping Yngvadottir. Everybody is free of course to draw different conclusions. I added some footnotes today, one being my surprise that nobody questioned my opening statement of question 1: "Arbitration findings and the wishes of principal editors govern the use of infoboxes in articles." They could all have said: "Really? How awful!" - Anyway, there was an interesting close, reopen, and then the wiki broke ;) - I have a banner on my user page for the secret slogan of Opabinia regalis: "Readers come first." --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:09, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
Yes, my intrepretation was based on a significant amount of guessing, obviously. :-) You and the great Bishzilla disagree on at least two candidates: Keilana and Timtrent, at the moment.
^This quasi-predictive information is calculated using the ArbCom election procedures, but applied solely to the unofficial advertised voter-guides... Take these numbers with a large grain of salt.
^Minimum threshold for winning a seat on WP:ARBCOM is 50% thus the 'pundits' predict it is possible the 9th seat will be vacant.
^This listing is not derived from Gerda's voter-guide, which analyzes the answers to specific questions. These support/oppose markings reflect her broader decision, based on her wider knowledge of the candidates, and not just their answers to her specific questions. "I supported the ones with some bold (Cas Drm Kei Kel Opa Tim), and opposed all others."
So the list shown just above, is your actual recommendation, I think... if you wish me to, I can add that information to the Signpost comparison-chart. I need to tweak the other rows anyways (some need updating), so it will be easy to add the Gerda-row to the comparison-chart, if you want me to do it.
You said this above: "Don't advertise votes..." But I was not sure what you meant: did you mean, that you had not *yet* advertised your votes? Or did you mean, that I should not advertise your votes, in the Signpost? Either way is fine by me, of course, so please help me figure out what you want to happen. I see you have added yourself to the Template:ACE2015 already -- getting crowded with 28 voter-guides for only 19 candidates! :-) Best, 75.108.94.227 (talk) 22:33, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
I don't think a Gerda-row would change much, + it's not a recommendation, just what I did. The great Bish and I differ on one possible candidate who is a friend of mine, I am biased ;) - The other one where we differ unfortunately withdrew. I like what Boing! said Zebedee said about him: "He can cut through it where those more hung up on rules and procedure often can't." - No need for you advertising my views, - advertising to break rulez that lead to absurdity is just fine. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:52, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
No, adding your row doesn't change much, just a courtesy, if you wanted to see it there. :-) My personal prediction is that all your picks will become arbs in 2016, except for Mister Faddle who experienced unforeseen off-wiki events, that prevent his candidacy from continuing. I've added in the percentages above, which are calculated *without* including the Gerda-row. They would be slightly different with the Gerda-row added in, but not enough to change positions for anybody, I don't think. Best, 75.108.94.227 (talk) 23:12, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
Nah, this is not hard. You can see how easy it is, I just copied the links from here, {{ACE2015}}. Plus added one other, that I saw via User:Rschen7754 usertalk. And missed one, adding it above.... If you wanna write one, you can. User:Hafspajen/ACE2015, it's not hard, just pick somebody else's and then make your own list of reasons to support and reasons to thump. No cat-lovers on arbcom. For sure. I'm maybe gonna write one, if you just wanna decorate something, and not "work". And will be asking some other people to write their own voterguides, respectable types like User:Dennis Brown, not canine-crazy artistaz like you dear Haffy. I mean, dear Mandy. I'm not sure if User:Drmies can write his own voterguide, to support himself! :-) Seems like self-dealing, vvurry nnotty!! ;-) So it is up to us rabble. Because it is templates all the way down, don't you know? 75.108.94.227 (talk) 14:18, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
ANd I will get NOT AN ADMIN CROSS CROSS CROSS- eh? Hafspajen (talk) 14:24, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
You are not thinking hard enough, little rabbit. You are worried, that if you *do* write your voter-guide, you will be blocked? Making adminz angry! That is the least of your troubles.
But think about this! What will happen to poor agent nejapsfaH, if you do *not* write your voter-guide? Remember User:Drmiesalready knows where *your* little talkpage is! Eeeeek. :-) You got him into this mess,[6] he might be vengeful with his block button, and go completely rogue. Look here,[7] he already blocked poor innocent little User:Timtrent for interference. He seeketh the ultimate dirty mop, now! :-) 75.108.94.227 (talk) 15:17, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
>>>>Indeed. I understand now how you feel. Hafspajen (talk) 15:23, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
Added some more. Starting to be a party. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 13:49, 20 November 2015 (UTC)
Don't forget Iridescent's easy guide: vote for Cas and Opinia, oppose the others. Not my strategy though, would leave too much influence for those we have already, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:23, 20 November 2015 (UTC)
Pronk?
Added, thanks. But Gerda, you are mis-interpreting what Iridescent was saying -- specifically this bit ...
...there are a few weak "make up the numbers" supports...
That implies Iridescent is fully behind Casliber and Opabinia, and for *this election* at least, is also mostly behind Drmies, Keilana, and Timtrent. Which is only five of the nine open seats, so there is also a list of Weak Opposes, seven other folks that are the "lesser of two weevils [with the implication they are competing for a singly hypothetical open seat]" as is often said[citation needed] in the USA and the UK, where first past the post voting system is commonly employed. Arbcom elections use a kind of approval voting, so the phrase is not exactly applicable in a parallel fashion... something more like "lesser of seventeen weevils competing for the remaining four open seats". As I read her recommendation, Iridescent is giving StrongSupport for two people, WeakSupport for three more people, and WeakOpposeButBetterThanTheAlteratives to an additional four-to-seven candidates. Pinging Iridescent, in case they with to set our conflicting reading of the tea-leaves straight. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 11:37, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
More accurate to say the first category is "definitely support", the second is "I can see serious problems and ordinarily wouldn't support, but will probably be better than an empty chair", the third is "will oppose but could be persuaded" and the fourth is "hell, no". There's absolutely no need to feel one needs to support nine people just because there are nine slots; there are advantages to broader representation, but also disadvantages. (Ever tried to participate in a fifteen-way conversation by email? It isn't pleasant.) It won't be a disaster by any means if only two, one or even no candidates reach the 50% mark, particularly in a year like this which IMO has the worst group of candidates since the days of Jimbo unilaterally appointing his drinking buddies; Arbcom could function perfectly well with three members, let alone ten. ‑ iridescent 11:53, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
Okay thanks, that helps clarify. I think that the pool *is* reasonably strong this year, though I do think that plenty of people who should have run, and were arm-twisted to do so, could have made it even stronger. *cough*ahem*hack*hrrmm, pardon me, just clearing my throat.
Perhaps the evidence of 664 emails per day may have scared off some of the potentials; most common reason I heard for not running was "no time". Second most common was "not wanting to be trolled/doxxed/etc" which is probably more crucial of a flaw, but also a very tough problem to truly solve. I think part of the reason to have such a large committee, besides the need to have a reserve-group for when people retire midway through their arb-terms, is so that tasks can be divvied up ('many hands make light work')... but of course, arbcom is horrid at divvying things up (see the recent elimination of WP:BASC), so instead tasks get over-analyzed and too-much-conversation-not-enough-action ('too many cooks in the kitchen').
off-topic proposal to solve the woes of 15-person-discussions , by pre-emptively divvying up the case-load via PRNG rules
I would strongly support having each arb-case assigned to five randomly-selected arbs from the pool of 15, with the next arbcase assigned to five *other* randomly-selected arbs from the remaining pool of ten. The third arb-case would then be assigned to five randomly-selected arbs from the ten not assigned to the 2nd arb-case. The fourth arb-case would be assigned to five randomly-selected arbs from the ten not assigned to the 3rd arbcase, and so on. There would have to be a mechanism for the parties to appeal to the full arbcom... but rather than re-litigate the entire arb-case, it would be better just to have sanctions be appealed to the full arbs (as they already currently handle appeals thataway, post-BASC, this would involve no changes in the appeals-process, just in the case-acceptance and drafting-process). To keep things sane, I think a 2yea-2nay-1abstain deadlock would have to be defined as 'no consensus' for this proposal to work in practice, which would mean 3-of-5-agreement was needed for implementing any sanction or accepting any case. 60% sounds like about the right target. Also, if an arb was picked as a member of the five for any given case, but recused, another arb would need to be randomly selected, so that each open request had five *active* arbs working on it, and the 3-of-5-to-act math would work out properly.
Be that as it may, I think your top-five are exceedingly likely to become arbs, including the first non-admin arb, from reading the voter-guide tea leaves. Inertia, and tactical voting, probably means that the other four seats also will be filled, though I'm detecting the whiff of an extremely strong antidisestablishmentarian sentiment in the wiki-air this time around. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 15:04, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
See my comments here for my thoughts on both how to address the over-large and over-worked committee issue, and on predictions. Basically, attempting to call this election is a fool's errand, as the talkpage-spamming of 100,000 users to vote means all bets are off. The 'electorate' in most Wiki processes consists of those with an interest and knowledge of the topic, whereas this one is going to be decided by an electorate of whom many aren't even aware Arbcom exists, and most have little idea what it actually does; consequently, the winners are likely to be the candidates who can spout the most convincing sounding platitudes, rather than those who are best suited to the job. ‑ iridescent 00:14, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

Hafs (or talkpage stalkers), Commons:Category:Paintings by Joseph Mallord William Turner is so subdivided I can't be sure, but I don't think we have Turner's Pope's Villa at Twickenham. I see umpty-bazillion versions at Google images. If we don't have it, could you please find a good one and upload it so I can stick it in Pope's villa? Thanks. Yngvadottir (talk) 21:41, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
Stalkpage talker here… I had a look, and the only image of the painting on the web is an engraving after Turner (and not a very good one) (on a blacklisted site). I'm guessing that the original was a watercolour and is lost, like his one of Leicester Abbey. Xanthomelanoussprog (talk) 15:33, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
THAT category is a nightmare. Hafspajen (talk) 16:29, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
@Xanthomelanoussprog:? See also this article, which I got from that search. The painting is extant but was whisked from a UK private collection to a US one. Yes, Hafs, the category made me cross my eyes, and I like Turner. Yngvadottir (talk) 21:16, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. I was pinged in your comments to Phil's page but I think it is unwise for me to respond there since she has asked me not to post on her talk page.
As you can see here and here, in November I asked Phil not to take potshots at me. I haven't been looking at her contributions, we just run into each other on user talk pages and when we do, she often makes a snide remark. As I said in my final comment to her, "I know I can't change your mind about me but I just ask that when you feel that impulse to say something negative about me, please resist it. And, of course, I will do likewise. Let's focus on improving Wikipedia. I appreciate the contributions of all editors, even ones that seemingly can't stand me." To that, she responded by deleting my post with the edit summary, "None of these are insults nor uncivil/disrespectful unlike your comments. Stop your pathetic blatant personal attacks against me, grow up & learn some integrity." That was where things were left until Sunday.
Regardless of her feelings about me, I have no ill will towards Phil and tried to disarm her insults with humor but that backfired. All I want is to edit without the insults. That's it. We all contribute to Wikipedia in different ways. And I don't think rehashing issues surrounding my painful RfA does anyone any good. Like others have said, enough drama, let's all move on and get back to work! But I appreciate your effort at trying to broker a peace arrangement. LizRead!Talk! 20:59, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
Yes, Liz is right. Efforts to broker peace arrangements are to be heartily supported and praised. They often get overlooked and trampled in the rush to apportion some more blame, and create yet more drama and acrimony, at AN/I. So you get my vote, Hafs. Well done. Martinevans123 (talk) 23:27, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
Heartily seconded. More bridge building and less use of C4 would be good around here. Irondome (talk) 23:35, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
Nice. I hope the two can avoid tracking one another. I would also suggest, if I may (I'm definitely not taking sides here; please be assured of that), that Liz avoid tracking Eric and avoid responding to him or talking about him. I personally think that creates a lot of bad blood on many fronts. Let's all just edit in our own spheres and avoid the drama as much as possible, and if the other parties show up in the same discussion or page, just ignore them. Live and let live. Thanks all. Softlavender (talk) 07:00, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
I'm not tracking anyone, Softlavender. If another editor and I have the same user talk pages or noticeboards on our Watchlists, it is not tracking another editor if you end up contributing to the same discussion. I often run into you at ANI and I'm not tracking your contributions, we both just regularly check it.
And since I was the target of the ire, maybe your advice should be given as well to the editors who make snide remarks to me and about me (don't worry, it's a short list). I would be ecstatic if they would ignore me. I tried to bring it to an end but was unsuccessful. LizRead!Talk! 14:47, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
Adoration of the Shepherds
Latest comment: 8 years ago4 comments3 people in discussion
Shepherd, with her sheepdog.
Hi Hafs-
I uploaded the image you requested from the Google Art Project, but am now puzzled. The links you left on my page do indeed contain a painting by the same artist, with the same title and year, but it is not the same image. Wanting to be certain before replacing the existing image (poor quality) with a different image (higher quality) of the same name, artist, etc., I did a google search on the painting title and on the artist. Results did not once show the new upload, while the existing file was there. I'm not sure how to proceed, or what this means. I hope that you (or any of your talk page followers) could perhaps offer some advice. Thanks in advance.--Godot13 (talk) 05:18, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) Old Honthorst knocked 'em out it seems- the Uffizi has got Adoration with shepherds of 1616 and the remains of Adoration of the shepherds of 1620 (wrecked by a car bomb in 1993). The two 1622 versions are in two different German museums. Xanthomelanoussprog (talk) 20:36, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
Godot13 - yes. Basically is the same picture ... but this one is the only one available on Google art project... The other version has some kind of emblem, too, that MIGHT raise issues at FP too... So, considering that this is rather high quality scan, I think that using it and changing it might not be a bad decision... Hafspajen (talk) 11:38, 19 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi Haf, I am SOOOOO glad you have turned your eye to Charles Marion Russell (aka "Charlie Russell" or "CMR"). One image we don't have at commons that should be is The Exalted Ruler (examples here, here, story here, and in short, we don't have images of the Russells at the C. M. Russell Museum Complex, though it might be possible for me to set up a road trip there (or maybe User:Tim1965 might have photos of the place and the paintings there). Anyway, let me know how to help you and support your image magic. (I'm doing a happy dance...!) Montanabw(talk) 21:31, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
Do you know in what museum the The Exalted Ruler is, Montanabw? Hafspajen (talk) 21:38, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
There are a GREAT amount of high quality files HERE - MUCH MUCH better quality than the ones used in the article:
I agree. How to get them all into Commons and then to replace the images in there? (Yes, the ones there are sometimes stuff I took at the Historical Society museum with a point and shoot camera!) I'm game to help, but wonder if there's an automated script like you can use with Flickr. Montanabw(talk) 23:05, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
These are Google art project files. There is a tool for them. Maybe Yann or Godot can help... Hafspajen (talk) 23:17, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
I believe "The Exalted Ruler" is at the C.M. Russell Museum in Great Falls. FYI, some useful stuff might be available in the article C. M. Russell Museum Complex. I have the biography of Russell, Charles M. Russell: The Life and Legend of America's Cowboy Artist by John Taliaferro. Some day, I was gonna work on the Charlie Russell article but never got around to it. If you need help with info from that book, I can certainly provide it! :) - Tim1965 (talk) 03:04, 1 January 2016 (UTC)
Yes, Exalted Ruler is in Great Falls, last I know. There are some decent scans of it out there, what's the rule for grabbing random images of PD artwork off the various museum sites and such? Plenty here: [10] For color balance only, this one (context here) might be good, as one can correct the human's skin tone and then compare the image to flatter scans from other sources. Regarding the post from North America above:
I asked Hafs about the sign, and he sent the explanation at left:
(The unit of area probably should be translated as rood, not rod.)

Latest comment: 8 years ago1 comment1 person in discussion
I have started the process. Not the most fun thing to do, but if time, place, and manner are important, then this should be. Many of the entries for specific town are about a specific museum or collection, some are not.Rococo1700 (talk) 13:07, 18 January 2016 (UTC)

Hafspajen, and any talk page watchers -- I was just reading the article on Jules-Élie Delaunay. In the second paragraph we read that Delaunay
...abandoned the ideal of Raphaelesque perfection for the sincerity and severity of the quattrocentists.
"Quattrocentists" is a red link, so I was looking for something I might be able to link it to. I found the article Quattrocento. The first sentence of that article says that "Quattrocento" is the "cultural and artistic events of 15th century Italy". However, Delaunay lived in the 19th century. Was Delaunay really adopting a style of the 15th century? Very puzzling. Corinne (talk) 22:30, 28 January 2016 (UTC)

Editor of the Week : nominations needed!
Latest comment: 8 years ago1 comment1 person in discussion
The Editor of the Week initiative has been recognizing editors since 2013 for their hard work and dedication. Editing Wikipedia can be disheartening and tedious at times; the weekly Editor of the Week award lets its recipients know that their positive behaviour and collaborative spirit is appreciated. The response from the honorees has been enthusiastic and thankful.
The list of nominees is running short, and so new nominations are needed for consideration. Have you come across someone in your editing circle who deserves a pat on the back for improving article prose regularly, making it easier to understand? Or perhaps someone has stepped in to mediate a contentious dispute, and did an excellent job. Do you know someone who hasn't received many accolades and is deserving of greater renown? Is there an editor who does lots of little tasks well, such as cleaning up citations?
There's a DYK there about 10 tonnes of coffee beans, but for the life of me I can't frame it into anything comrehensiblcomehen sensible. Xanthomelanoussprog (talk) 05:46, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

Dear Hafspajen,
Seeing the notice of your retirement, I do not know whether this message will reach you—I do not even know if this is the correct place to put it—however, you have always been so kind, whether it be with the generosity of your expertise in helping or advising me; or in the thoughtfulness of your Christmas & New Year's Greetings, to say nothing of your most encouraging comments on a given article I may have contributed, or an elaboration or clarification of an already extant piece on which you feel I have done well ... in this light, I could not fail to at least try to wish you all the best on this first day of the New Year. (I do regret, a text message is still all of which I am capable; I have never learnt your skill at art work).
Once again, I thank you sincerely for all your kind and thoughtful encouragement, and your having made me feel so welcome; (it can mean so much to one such as myself, i.e. elderly & anything but au fait with the proper way of doing things, and sometimes even just how to do a given thing at all).
Hafspajen, Have a prosperous, productive and enjoyable New Year, and thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia.
