10.5 cm leFH 16 Geschutzwagen Mk VI 736 (e) edit

Hello, Gunbirddriver!

In russian wiki, we are writing about 10.5 cm leFH 16 Geschutzwagen Mk VI 736 (e) (aka ru:G.Pz. Mk. VI (e)).

I saw your workpage on the 10.5 cm leFH 16 Geschutzwagen Mk VI 736 (e) and i liked it a lot. Would you like finish it and move to main namespace? I am going to use some sources from your draft and connect with interwiki. Thank you! --Drakosh (talk) 06:43, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your interest. I have not been working on wikipedia much the past year or so, but yes it is close to being finished. I uploaded the images but they are all being questioned and may be deleted, which was a central aspect of the project. Anyway, I will look at it and move it over if I can cite it a little better. Thanks again. Gunbirddriver (talk) 18:45, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Okay my friend, I have put the article up and linked it to yours. Very nice. Gunbirddriver (talk) 04:04, 29 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Matthew J. Matthews: detail on personal life edit

Thanks for your edition about the detail on personal life of Ambassador Matthew J. Matthews. However, can the citation source of his date of birth be provided? All I can get is that he passed away in 2020 at the age of 66 according to State Department.--Howard61313 (talk) 08:36, 21 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • I verified the date of birth with the ambassador's family, 22 April 1954. I also did search around a bit on the internet for a secondary source, but thus far have been unable to come up with one to provide a citation for the date. Gunbirddriver (talk) 09:08, 22 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

List of your created articles that are in Category:Harv and Sfn no-target errors edit

  • {{cite book |last= |first= |author-link= |date= |title= |url= |location= |publisher= |isbn=}}

To cite a book with no credited author

  • {{cite book |author=<!--Staff writer(s); no by-line.--> |date= |title= |url= |location= |publisher= |page= |isbn=}}

I went through your ~30 created articles and the following came out with ref errors:

  1. Anneville (Ulvenhout)
  2. Augsburg raid
  3. Bombardment of Mailly-le-Camp
  4. Café Gondrée
  5. Ernst de Jonge
  6. Hamish Mahaddie
  7. Jack Currie (RAF officer)
  8. James Pelly-Fry
  9. Jimmy Marks (RAF officer)
  10. Mary LaRoche
  11. Operation Robinson
  12. Patrick Dorehill
  13. Peter Vaughan-Fowler
  14. Royal Air Force Special Duties Service
To facilitate cleanup, I suggest you install Svick's script per these instructions (if you haven't already installed it). Note that in most cases, the solution is to convert the references to proper {{cite book}}, rather than remove the {{sfn}} or similar like I did here. Similar error in Self-propelled artillery. You have added a short reference to "Spielberger 1992" but no such work is listed in bibliography. Please add, and install the script as suggested above to highlight such errors. Thanks, Renata (talk) 05:06, 2 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

"This link doesn't point to any citation" ?! The gadget generates false statements. The links in question clearly point to a citation. The gadget may not read it that way, in which case it is requesting a formatting change for how the reference is listed.Gunbirddriver (talk) 19:01, 2 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
There may be a corresponding citation, but when you click on the links, you are not taken to the citation. Compare clicking on Mitcham 2007 in this version vs clicking on Mitcham 2007 in this version. The second one takes you to the full citation and highlights it, the first one doesn't. That's what it means by "This link [i.e. the Mitcham 2007 blue link] doesn't point to any citation" Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 19:06, 2 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
The first version gives you the name of the author, the year of publication and the page number in the book cited. Seems to me that is pointing to a citation. 'This link does not function' would be more accurate, but I concede there is a value in reformatting the references. Thanks for looking at it. Gunbirddriver (talk) 22:54, 2 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
The information is pointing to a citation (in the sense that if I tell you Yeah, look up Mitcham 2007, I've pointed you in a direction). But the link is not. The link is broken, and points nowhere. That's what the message says. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 23:00, 2 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Okay, so I am reworking the references on the James Pelly-Fry article, and all references with multiple authors do not seem to work. Could you look at that and tell me where I am going wrong there? Gunbirddriver (talk) 23:36, 2 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Same problem on Augsburg raid Gunbirddriver (talk) 23:57, 2 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Basically, each author needs to be separated with a | in the sfn templates, like so. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 23:58, 2 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Ahhh. Okay, I've got it. Thanks again. Gunbirddriver (talk) 23:59, 2 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Back in May 2013, you added a short ref to "Potter" to William Halsey Jr. but it's unclear which of the 3 Potter's books it's supposed to reference. Can you adjust? Thanks, Renata (talk) 23:24, 9 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Should be good now. Gunbirddriver (talk) 01:39, 10 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Understanding Problem edit

@User:Gunbirddriver At the moment I´m revising the german article of St.-Vincent-class battleship. So while i did some research i´ve found on the this article the following sentence: They (the guns) had a reputation for "drooping at the muzzle". So i was woundering whether you could help me understanding what drooping at the muzzle means Greetings from Germany — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mr.Lovecraft (talkcontribs) 12:24, 16 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

The 50 caliber barrels were significantly longer than the previous naval guns, and the weight of the barrel had a tendency to cause the barrel to bend slightly downward over the length of its shaft. Apparently the bending was not much, as the slight drooping was not enough to affect the accuracy of the gun. Hope that helps. Gunbirddriver (talk) 14:19, 16 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Light bulbs in B-36 bomb bay edit

Hello, I am going to be deleting "Another frequent maintenance job was replacing the dozens of bomb bay light bulbs, which routinely shattered during test firing of the ball turret guns", here, as it has not found a reliable source to confirm that information. If you have a source, please add it back! - Swiss Mister in NY (talk) 20:32, 28 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
