Winged unicorn

I notice in the history you added a lot of good information there. It looks like some editors (Throwaway, Pupsicle, Nail) have been removing all sorts of it though. I almost wonder if there should be some kind of task force dedicated to preserving all the various information there which people keep trying to censor. Ranze (talk) 04:59, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

Hello Ren,

Back in November you commented that we wanted to promote the non-profit. I just wanted to corrected you in you allegations. You're totally wrong in your allegations. No one is looking to promote anything, fyi we work within the Hispanic Media. We don't need promotion, we do promotions, and Mr. Mendez is well known and respected "Icon" within the Community. If your decision was based on that it was a poor one, or are you racist or prejudice? I feel sorry for you and others that wanted to write something in Wikepedia, but that's quite alright, because modern times Wikepedia is not the only one in the red, and to be candid it's not necessary for us. We work in the Hispanic Communications. Thank-You, Mary L. Luna (MLL (talk) 02:42, 19 January 2013 (UTC))

Hi Mary L. Luna. I am not Ren. That was another editor that posted on your talk page. I proposed that the article you created (Victor Mendez aka "El Negrito de La Buena Suerte" aka "El Bombon de Chocolate) be deleted because I did not feel it met our notability guidelines. No personal slight was intended. If you do work for a company that does promotion, please read our policy on conflicts of interest. Gobōnobō + c 03:07, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Jeanine Deckers - The Singing Nun.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Jeanine Deckers - The Singing Nun.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:03, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

WikiCup 2013 January newsletter

Signups are now closed; we have our final 127 contestants for this year's competition. 64 contestants will make it to the next round at the end of February, but we're already seeing strong scoring compared to previous years.   Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) currently leads, with 358 points. At this stage in 2012, the leader (  Grapple X (submissions)) had 342 points, while in 2011, the leader had 228 points. We also have a large number of scorers when compared with this stage in previous years.   12george1 (submissions) was the first competitor to score this year, as he was last year, with a detailed good article review. Some other firsts:

Featured articles, portals and topics, as well as good topics, are yet to feature in the competition.

This year, the bonus points system has been reworked, with bonus points on offer for old articles prepared for did you know, and "multiplier" points reworked to become more linear. For details, please see Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. There have been some teething problems as the bot has worked its way around the new system, but issues should mostly be ironed out- please report any problems to the WikiCup talk page. Here are some participants worthy of note with regards to the bonus points:

  •   Ed! (submissions) was the first to score bonus points, with Portland-class cruiser, a good article.
  •   Hawkeye7 (submissions) has the highest overall bonus points, as well as the highest scoring article, thanks to his work on Enrico Fermi, now a good article. The biography of such a significant figure to the history of science warrants nearly five times the normal score.
  •   HueSatLum (submissions) claimed bonus points for René Vautier and Nicolas de Fer, articles that did not exist on the English Wikipedia at the start of the year; a first for the WikiCup. The articles were eligible for bonus points because of fact they were both covered on a number of other Wikipedias.

Also, a quick mention of   The C of E (submissions), who may well have already written the oddest article of the WikiCup this year: did you know that the Fucking mayor objected to Fucking Hell on the grounds that there was no Fucking brewery? The gauntlet has been thrown down; can anyone beat it?

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Hello!

Hi Gobonobo,

My name is Abbey Maynard and I just wanted to introduce myself to you. I am with Drake University's Global Youth Studies course as well as a new member of Wikipedia. I am interested in writing about disabled youth in Greece, specifically. I had a friend who recently visited Greece and told me that there are no entitlement programs for those with mental and physical disabilities so many of the homeless population is, in some way, disabled. Mental disabilities is what I would really like to research, however, I have a bit of a problem. I don't know where I should even start looking for an article to build off of. If you have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it! Hope to here from you soon!

Abbey — Preceding unsigned comment added by AbbeyMaynard (talkcontribs) 03:58, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi Abbey. Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for introducing yourself. I think homeless Greek youth with developmental disabilities is probably too narrow of a topic for its own article, but the topic could potentially be addressed in another article that has a broader focus. For instance, the article for street child has a 'By country' section that currently has nothing for Greece. Wikipedia has a handful of articles for homelessness by country, such as Homelessness in Canada, but there is not yet an article for Homelessness in Greece. I hope that helps. Drake Youth Studies- Ashley Thompson

Hey, I am a student in the Drake Youth Studies course, and just wanted to touch base with you to see what you think about my idea for a wikipedia page, and if you think it should be its own page or added to an existing one. I am wanting to research youth in Cambodia following the Khmer Rouge and hopefully up to youth today. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AshleyMichelleThompson (talkcontribs) 16:53, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi Ashley. I think that your topic could be incorporated into the Childhood and adolescence in Cambodia article. This Wikipedia article entirely relies on a single source from 1987 and could be expanded and revised. I think that any take on modern Cambodian youth must take into consideration the Khmer Rouge and the Vietnamese occupation. Gobōnobō + c 18:52, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Hello

Hello Gobonobo! I hear that you are my online ambassador for my project. I am a student at Drake University and my topic is youth violence and specifically human trafficking in the Dominican Republic. I am excited to learn from you and receive feedback about my project! Melholle (talk) 21:06, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi Melholle. I'm interested in learning more about your topic. We have an article for human trafficking in the Dominican Republic which I believe mostly duplicates the 2010 US Trafficking in Persons report. I invite you to take a look at it. I think that article could be expanded if you were so inclined. Gobōnobō + c 18:22, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
