Peer Review edit

Hey Mel! I got a chance to peer review your article and overall it was great! Really good important information and interesting sections as well. Some things you can work on is maybe structuring each section a little more different. Right now its just one paragraph in each section but maybe put bullet points or turn it into multiple paragraphs. Also, for people or important words that a reader might want to know more about you should link it so they can reference it easily. Besides that, GREAT JOB. Can't wait to see the final product. Topic Feedback: A Portal for You edit

Here is a portal of all crime entries for the DR. I would recommend beginning your source search to see what is possible in terms of academic resources. Category:Crime_in_the_Dominican_Republic Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 05:41, 7 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

I think this is a great choice for a topic, as crime and violence in Latin America is a primary social problem.Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 21:28, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Welcome edit

Hi Melholle. Welcome to Wikipedia! I'm an online ambassador for your Global Youth Studies course at Drake. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, chat with us on IRC, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Helpme}} before the question. Thank you for introducing yourself and for creating an informative user page. Your topics look great. Given that you may be addressing Haitian violence in the Dominican Republic, I think it would be helpful to be familiar with the concept of antihaitianismo as well. Antihatianismo addition edit

I agree with Gobonobo that anti-Hatian racism (I hadn't heard the term antihaitianismo but kudos to G. for pointing out) would be something to include a reference about.Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 00:16, 6 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello there! edit

Hi there Melholle. I really like your topic idea! I love how ambitious you are with the various topics relating to the Dominican Republic. I do have the concern however that you are trying to tackle rather large articles, for I had the same issue. Our Wikipedia ambassador advises against the idea of editing large and developed articles, so if possible I would veer away from the Dominican Republic page and the Haiti page. Also, the scope of your topic is wide, but maybe just focus on one of the topics, it will be a lot of work in itself. Overall though, I love the topic and can't want to hear more about it! Good feedback Jduden! Just don't forget to sign with the 4~ at the end!Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 21:10, 7 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Feedback! edit

Hi there! I really think your topic is interesting. Having you been there before will really help you write this page and give good insight. If possible make sure you set the stage for your topic by explaining the condition of the entire country first so your readers can further understand the conditions of youth in the Dominican Republic. Overall good work! Ellieb281 (talk)Ellieb281Ellieb281 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 23:16, 27 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Citations and "Proclaiming Your Topic" edit

Hi Melholle! I had a chance to look at your citations issue in the talk page of Human Trafficking in the Dominican Republic. I see what is missing. You did the citations correctly, but you needed to make the reference page. I'm doing a sample; edit this section to see the programming language. Say you have a citation.[1]. Then, you make a "notes," like you'll see below, with the programming language.

Next, work on cleaning up your user page and making more explicit what your plan is for the Human Trafficking in the DR page. Gobonobo is right - the page was imported from one report from the U.S. State Department. I would recommend looking at our new library resource HAPI as well as the global index we looked at to find additional materials. I am available in office hours to discuss things with you further. You are on your way!Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 21:16, 6 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Very good work! 3.27 Sources edit

Hi Melholle - I really liked your reflections on your user page regarding your sources. I'm impressed you looked at HAPI in Spanish! I agree with you that a dilemma is that even though we include the Caribbean or the DR in a Wikipedia article, that doesn't mean that we are including Caribbean perspectives about the topic. This is a problem that I don't expect you to solve this semester! if you were really ambitious, you could look at Es.wikipedia.org at the articles on República Dominicana and other topics. Interestingly, the human trafficking page on Spanish Wikipedia has mostly English sources - reinforcing your reflection that knowledge about the Global South is still controlled by the Global North to a large degree.

Let's talk more about advancing your project! Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 05:16, 2 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
