Thanks for the heads up, merge is done, redirect in place. I went ahead and put it under 10GBASE-T since that seems to be the convention used on other similar ethernet articles. Doesn't seem to me to be the most intuitive style since I rarely see it written that way, but unless we move them all, I'll stick with it. Redirects work fine anyway. I appreciate your attempt to restore Ceiling Cat. Looks like it's not widespread enough to get past the stigma it has here yet. I originally came to Wikipedia to find out more information about the image, I was surprised when there was no article about it. It was only after I started creating the article I found out about the source of the image being Wikipedia itself. Well maybe someday Ceiling Cat will merit an article. For now we'll have to let Encyclopedia Dramatica take up the slack. :) Gigs 21:44, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Copyrights on APBT pics

Hi Gigs, Cghiotto (talk · contribs) has removed the copyright tags you put on those photos. I posted a note to the user's talk page reaffirming my doubts that they are indeed GFDL'd, and said that I'd contact the owner of the website; however, now that I think about it, isn't the burden of proof on the uploader? Additionally, he went and removed the pertinent discussion on his talk. I'm not sure if reverting it was an okay-thing to do, but I did. Perhaps someone should contemplate nominating that media for deletion? As you said, the burden of proof is on the uploader, and there are three (if not more) people who feel the licensing is improper (and not to mention his actions imply that this is intentional, as opposed to a misunderstanding of policy). // 3R1C 00:40, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Re: Date rape drug

Well, I'll see what I can dig up on the subject of moral panic surrounding possible use of date rape drugs. I changed the section name to "Moral panic" because what the section is describing is hysteria with an element of supposed immorality (namely, date rape). I've always sensed that people think date rape druggings are more common than they really are, and this well-documented case from Australia shows that very clearly. For example, the university I attend recently distributed a survey that asked if anyone had used GHB, either recreationally or as a date rape drug (either on themselves, unwillingly, or on other people). I'll be perfectly honest here: I'm in tune with the drug underworld around Boston, and I can say that nobody uses GHB, for any purpose, period. It just isn't used, and the reasons are very simple. First: It's alcohol that's used as a date rape drug, the reason being that you don't have to convince the potential victim to consume it. Second: GHB is illegal, and the precursors are illegal, making it very uncommon. Alcohol, on the other hand, is not only legal, but is consumed by most young adults (the demographic in which date rapes mostly occur). Third: GHB is only incapacitating in multiple gram doses, which would give a very obvious taste in whatever it is put into. I don't think the article, in its current form, stresses this fact enough: Alcohol is the most widely used date rape drug. Despite the facts at hand, socially conservative people (usually called "squares") continue to misconstrue the date rape drug situation. Relatively few people actually think of using drugs to incapacitate someone so that they might rape them more easily. Most date rapes occur after an individual has consumed a sufficient amount of alcohol, to the point where they would be more pliable in a sexual situation. This is more appropriately called "aquaintance rape", and it overlaps quite a bit with date rape. Also, it is worth mentioning that flunitrazepam (rohypnol) is almost never used as a dape rape drug any more, due to the fact that it is illegal (it was specifically made illegal because of a moral panic surrounding it), and cannot easily be synthesized in a clandestine setting. I would guess that other benzodiazepines (e.g. diazepam, lorazepam, alprazolam) are much more commonly used these days (after alcohol, of course). Also, I noticed that virutally all of the date rape drugs are GABA agonists. Characteristic of these drugs is their propensity toward causing decreased social inhibitions. I just wish that everyone could sit back and analyze things before taking a particular viewpoint. I think that everyone is capable of being a sort of amateur sociologist/anthropologist, at some level. My stance toward edits to Wikipedia is positive, rather than normative. I seek only to describe what is happening, rather than to convince the reader that things ought to be one way or another. Many people will see my edits as very POV, but I'm convinced that I'm one of the only people capable of approaching this topic (date rape) in an NPOV manner. Fuzzform 03:39, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Re the Alan Whicker entry, I assume he did literally mean that the obituary commented on his lack of achievement - Whicker was young at the time of the obituary and was not famous for having achieved a lot like he is now.Ben Finn 14:39, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
