Karin Barber

Hello, I'm looking at the Karin Barber article for DYK, and I had some feedback that isn't DYK-specific, so I thought I would leave a message here. I would encourage you to add more about her writing; at the very least, the lead paragraph really needs to state that she has written several award-winning books on Yoruba culture. I read through most of the article wondering what she had done and didn't find anything about her books until I hit the awards section. It would help to discuss this earlier, possibly by adding a paragraph at the end of the academic career section, to give a quick overview of her work and its significance. It's a very thorough and well-referenced article otherwise, so thank you! I hope to do the DYK review today. Mary Mark Ockerbloom (talk) 14:35, 7 February 2017 (UTC)

Thank you! I do tend to leave out things such as a person's influence on their specialism and in depth research interests in the hope that someone who knows more will come along and fill it in! I'd say that most of the biographies I write are not about people I know much about/know at all, so I'm relying on the sources I find. I'll give it go though. Academic bios

It's great to see the work you've been doing on academics. It's a very patchy area on WP and there are so many potential articles to be created. I've been slowly trying to link the names on the FBA lists, which should make content creation easier. I gather you are taking part in the 'Women in Red' task, which is good to see. The following red-linked women FBAs have come up while I've been linking the initials-only years:

It's just a start and it goes without saying that there are loads of male FBAs without articles too. I eventually intend to type up the FBAs from the 1980s as well and call up earlier journals from my university library to take the list back earlier than that. I find that lists are the only way to be sure we've got everyone. I would do more but, alas, offline commitments are eating up my time. Cheers, —Noswall59 (talk) 16:23, 7 February 2017 (UTC).

Thank you Noswall59! And thank you for your help with the FBAs, I look forwards to the earlier lists as well. Take all the time you need, the current red-links will keep me busy for a long-time yet. I'll add these five to my mental list. Gaia Octavia Agrippa Talk 16:37, 7 February 2017 (UTC)
