Blocked for sockpuppetry edit

Request reason:

Hello I can understand why you've blocked me for being a sockpuppet but this was an honest mistake - I didn't realise I was only supposed to have one account and I wasn't using the accounts to do anything deceitful, but to keep different editing jobs/watchlists separate, though they ended up overlapping anyway. I know that @Darkness shines: believes I was being deceitful, and thinks I've been on Wikipedia for a long time - I only started last month, as I'm sure you can confirm from your own info. I haven't tried to hide the fact that I have more than one account - it's quite normal elsewhere (e.g. Twitter) - and I don't remember seeing anything about this rule when I joined (which would be a good addition to the welcome message if it's not there). I do now see why this rule makes sense and, as I told Darkness Shines, I'm happy to use just one account from now on. I contacted @Generalizationsarebad: to ask how to fix this but now I'm blocked. Is there something I can do to lift the block? I can answer any questions you may have. Thanks and sorry! Fugitivedave (talk) 01:00, 19 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Accept reason:

I find your comments believable. I have therefore unblocked this account only and removed the sock tags from the three accounts' user pages. Good luck.--Bbb23 (talk) 19:10, 21 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello. If you could provide a bit more information, what are your other accounts? Nice job on the child soldiers article. I can see how one could think you are an experienced user. Thanks -- Dlohcierekim (talk) 02:41, 19 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. I'm an experienced writer but new to WP. The accounts are armygeekboy, fugitivedave and usingtheforce. That's all. They were set up in Dec/Jan. I feel an idiot for doing it now! If you look at the pages I've edited, hopefully you'll see that the edits are constructive and aim to develop each article encyclopaedically, and I haven't used the different accounts to gain some kind of advantage (though I now do see how someone could). I'm not surprised that Darkness Shines is annoyed with me though. Fugitivedave (talk) 03:35, 19 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Yes, those are the accounts. Fugitivedave (talk) 15:26, 19 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Can an Admin please verify how old they are? Should all be Dec 2017/Jan 2018. I really am a newbie! Didn't know about the one account rule, and didn't use the accounts deceitfully, though I can see why it might look like I did. Happy to answer any questions.

Fugitivedave (talk) 15:29, 19 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • Two accounts were used to edit war in one article, I fail to see how having different accounts for differing subjects lead to both being used in the same article I'm sceptical here Darkness Shines (talk) 19:07, 19 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

I haven't edit-warred - or at least if I have it wasn't intentional. When Darkness Shines reverted my edits, I asked to discuss on the talk page - that can be checked. I'd like to work with, not against, Darkness Shines on developing the child soldier pages. It's true that I have edited articles using more than one account. This is because I wasn't always paying attention to which account I was using at the time, and (accordingly) the original idea of keeping watchlists/projects separate didn't work out. Yes, that's dumb, and futile, but it wasn't malicious - I wasn't actively pretending to be two different people. I assume a sockpuppet (a word I'd never heard of until this week) would try to hide their use of more than one account, would seek to mislead others into thinking they're more than one person, and would do so to make vexatious edits. I haven't done so - pls check by looking at the pages I've edited. If anyone has other questions about this, please ask and I will answer them if I can. Fugitivedave (talk) 11:05, 21 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

You did edit war though, and used two accounts to do so, however we all mess up on occasion so I'm willing to AGF and withdraw any objections to this account being unblocked. @Bbb23: your call mate Darkness Shines (talk) 13:07, 21 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you Darkness Shines. I've learnt a lesson! Fugitivedave (talk) 13:09, 21 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • I promise to look at this later. Thanks for everyone's input, and any additional input, particularly from administrators, is welcome.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:10, 21 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Good work on this article. I would like to submit it to MilHist for B class assessment. To that end I have moved in the most relevant image I could find. If you know of an additional one - an actual photograph oh milling would be ideal - please add it. The one thing which may trip the item up is "The bouts are filmed (see below for examples) and trainees can buy the DVD as a souvenir." being unreferenced. I know that you have attached examples, but the assessors can be picky. Do you have an actual reference for it? I am presuming a fair bit here, but thanks for any help you are able to give. Gog the Mild (talk) 09:57, 19 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! That's kind of you. And thank you also for copy-editing Children in the military - it's getting there now. I can ask a friend about a copyright-free image for the milling page - will let you know. Fugitivedave (talk) 15:14, 19 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks.
Children in the military. The copy edit will take me several run throughs. I tend to be bold in my editing. I would be grateful if you could keep an eye on them and revert and/or alert me if I lose important material in my enthusiasm. Gog the Mild (talk) 15:29, 19 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Milling. I have requested a MilHist assessment against B class.
Children in the military. I think that I am done re copy editing. Which is not to say that there isn't work which needs doing, but you seem to have that well in hand. I agree that the history section needs moving, and I may just do that. Also that the country by country needs thinning down - or some of it moving to history. Given that, I think that there is a decent article in there.
I will be moving on to Rehabilitation and reintegration of child soldiers. It is possible that I will see you there. Gog the Mild (talk) 17:26, 23 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

A beer for you! edit

A barnstar for you! edit

  The Half Barnstar
Howdy pard'ner. Children in the military and Rehabilitation and reintegration of child soldiers are both now B class. May I immodestly say that I don't think that we did a bad job together. Happy editing. Gog the Mild (talk) 16:31, 22 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Gog. I'm not sure what a barnstar is but I'll take it! Yes, we made a good team. It's great to see the Children in the military page looking much sharper than it did. - I'll keep updating it from time to time. Fugitivedave (talk) 21:07, 27 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
See WP:Barnstars. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:02, 27 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
Ah! OK. Thanks RedRose64. Having looked at barnstars now, I think the half-barnstar is my favourite. Thanks Gog. Fugitivedave (talk) 09:12, 30 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Children in the military edit

Hi FugitiveDave

I hope that you are keeping well. I have been looking over Children in the military and thinking what a fine article it is. You've done a good job there. I feel that it would benefit from the gravitas of a higher status than B class. Could I persuade you to nominate it for Good Article? If you are hesitant, I would be happy to be a co-nominee if you wish.

Cheers

Gog the Mild (talk) 20:59, 8 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Gog the Mild: Hi Gog. Thanks for this and sorry for taking sooooo long to reply. I'd love to brush up the Children in the military page for GA status but I just haven't had the time. The other page is like to work on is the main Military page, which is a real mess at the moment, but that's a bigger job. I see that you've been very busy indeed improving WP - thanks for all you're doing. Fugitivedave (talk) 07:11, 6 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
