Tony McEntee moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Tony McEntee, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs to be written in an encyclopedic manner (focus on the facts, avoid point-of-view statements such as "powering away", "of course"). The bare URL references should also be expanded to avoid URL rot. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). Disambiguation link notification for July 31 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of All-Ireland Senior Football Championship final goalscorers, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Declan Meehan. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Speedy deletion nomination of Ray Kelly (referee) edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Ray Kelly (referee) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. On 16 August 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Sean Hurson, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the coin used by Gaelic football referee Sean Hurson bears his initials and was presented to him by one of his umpires just before the latter died? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Sean Hurson. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Sean Hurson), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Welcome edit

Hiya. And welcome to the project. While one of the great things about the Wikipedia project is that we all work together to improve articles, and perfection isn't always initially required, editors will ideally help avoid making work for each other by improving over time. In that vein, please note that (in a way that is hopefully easily avoided going forward), in several articles, you've made the same or similar:

  • Factual errors. Like describing people as footballs. Rather than footballers.[1][2][3][4]. While other editors have corrected this phrasing in each case (for example by adding "er" to become "Gaelic footballer" or "player" to become "Gaelic football player"), you might look out for this yourself from now on.
  • Spelling errors. Like spelling Clare (as in County Clare or Clare GAA or Clare county hurling team) with an "i". "Claire", with an "i", is (of course) a girl's name. The county is just "Clare". No "i". While, again, this has been corrected in (I hope) most cases, you might also look out for this yourself too.
  • Grammar issues. Like repeating phrases, using informal or uncommon turns-of-phrase or writing very long run-on sentences. Making readability quite difficult. In this case, for example, you wrote a 260-word sentence. A very long paragraph. Longer than many articles. Without a single full stop. While this has also been improved, please take a look at WP:TONE and WP:MOS for best-practice on grammar, tone and other related guidelines.

Happy editing! Guliolopez (talk) 19:10, 27 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

On 5 September 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Battle of Omagh, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. Posting nonsense edit

It looks as if you are repeatedly posting nearly unintelligible or nonsensical text in your articles. This was an extreme example recently, but also parts of Draft:Luke Dempsey (which I moved to draft for this reason) have no place in a Wikipedia article. What does "He has a smile on his face and wants to shake a hand." mean? "He managed Westmeath so they could go get him now." "He is years and years and years, the best part of passed a quarter century enjoying himself on the merry-go-round in the newspaper headlines". Also here, "He one won All Ireland Medal he has in his back pocket he won one All Ireland when he won it the ones in 2022 when kerry got two won a final at last and he one. He was a bloodied substitute but his loss was an impact for 2023." What? Fram (talk) 12:23, 8 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Recent stubs and living status edit

I see that you've recently written several stubs about Gaelic footballers, because they are currently sitting in Category:Biography articles without living parameter because it's unclear whether the individuals are alive or dead. They're all written in the past tense as if the players are dead but there's no sources giving any indication of death (unless I'm overlooking it), would you mind either adding sources of birth, death, or changing the tense to present? Unless they are of a certain age (I forget the exact number but it's over 100) we must assume they are alive unless we have evidence of the contrary. I don't want to change the tense myself because I'm not familiar in any way with these individuals. Thank you. - Aoidh (talk) 00:48, 10 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

I've seen this article so I know some of them are deceased, but for example Hugh and Henry Gribben, I don't know if they're dead or alive. - Aoidh (talk) 00:54, 10 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

IDHT edit

Hi. Several editors have raised WP:TONE, WP:COPYEDIT and WP:PN guidelines with you over the last period. And there is limited indication that you are listening. If you continue to ignore the advice of others (including the simple suggestions about using free and straightforward tools to improve grammar and spelling), then you may want to note that the WP:IDHT guideline states that "If the community spends more time cleaning up editors' mistakes and educating them about policies and guidelines than it considers necessary, sanctions may have to be imposed". Put simply, while articles do not have to be perfect, they do have to be verifiable and intelligible. Continually adding avoidable factual errors (like describing someone as a "Gaelic football" (rather than "Gaelic footballer"), stating that someone "always licks a dressing room" (rather than "always likes a dressing room"), or "ones his one kitchen" (rather than "owns his own kitchen") is becoming disruptive. When a spelling error becomes a factual error, it is no longer a spelling error. (The difference, for example, between the word "wore" and the word "whore" is not a trivial difference.) Please therefore consider taking a small amount of time to better-align your writing-style with Wikipedia's style-guides. Maybe you could do this by practicing on a single article (maybe one of the MANY that other editors have moved to the DRAFT space), before creating yet more less-than-MOS-compliant articles. And, perhaps, consider responding to someone/anyone on your own talkpage. So that the community doesn't mistake you for someone who ignores constructive feedback or otherwise isn't here to collaboratively improve the project....
