RE: Tel Aviv

Finetooth, Id like to give you a belated thank you for your copyedit of the Tel Aviv page. Unfortunately it still failed FAC (three times!) and is now having a break in preparation for another FAC. Most reviewers feel it needs another comprehensive copyedit and I thought it would be logical to ask you seeing as you already know the article. Thanks. Flymeoutofhere (talk) 19:38, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

I think that those issues have now been addressed so it just needs a copyeditor which is what Im being told. Dont worry if you cant do it, I'll contact elsewhere. Thanks. Flymeoutofhere (talk) 08:58, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks and a plan

Thanks for your kind words. I noticed Johnson Creek is up for both a PR and GAN. I have looked at it briefly and think it looks good (and the structure seems oddly familiar ;-) ). Anyway here is my plan, I will do a peer review in a few days and can also use that do a GA review. Does that sound OK? Since we have worked together are you Ok with that? (I will do the PR either way). Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:41, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

OK, it will take me a few days, but I will peer review it and then turn to GA. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 05:12, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Referencing a map

A couple of months ago you gave me a great deal of help with a map relating to Discovery Expedition, for which I was most grateful. May I ask for your help again? This time the target is the satellite photagraph here.

Basically what I need is three locations, to be identified on the image as A, B and C. Before I go into details of where, etc, can you tell me, first if this is possible, second if you've got tine to do it? (the article in question is Aeneas Mackintosh). Brianboulton (talk) 17:51, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your prompt reply. The points I want can be A, B and C.
Point A: Follow the coastline up from the bottom-right corner to a small protuberance about one-fifth of the way up. This is Hut Point, and should be indicated by an A.
On the opposite side of the image, to the north of the leftmost of the islands is visible a small area of coastline. This is Cape Evans and should be indicated by a B.
Imagine, but don't draw, a straight line between A and B. About a fifth of the way along from A to B, mark point C. (This should work out about half-way between Hut Point and the glacier tongue)
That's it! If you think that a, b and c would look better I'll back your judgement. No text need appear: I'll do that on the map caption.

Many thanks for your willingness to help. Do let me know if I can reciprocate in any way. Brianboulton (talk) 18:39, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

PS colour not important. Black'll do. Brianboulton (talk) 18:42, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
The image is great. On reflection, a dotted line joining A to C would improve, because that would represent the actual walk that Mackintosh and Hayward made, before their disappearance in a blizzard. Can you do this? if so, perfect. And many thanks again. Brianboulton (talk) 21:35, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
The revised photo is now posted to the article, with my caption. I am most grateful. Brianboulton (talk) 00:13, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Good Article

Hi Finetooth, I just passed Johnson Creek (Willamette River) as a good article and will make some peer review suggestions next. Congratulations! Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:32, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

  • Thanks for your kind offer - several weeks ago I proposed that every peer review request should get a repsonse. The Rambling Man has been very helpful with PR, as have some others. Lately I have been bogged down in FAC and busier in real life, so if you want to help out, picking a PR request with no responses and giving a review once a week or so would be a great help. In some ways the easiest ones are the ones that need the most work - just say expand the lead, add refs, avoid jargon and provide context, get a copyedit, and you're done ;-) Ruhrfisch ><>°° 05:19, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
    • Another possibility is that I sometimes come across failed FAC articles that seem to have all the information needed, just some copyedit help. I have seen the magic you can work via copyedits and if you ever lack for work (ha) I can probably always suggest an article or five. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 15:22, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
      • Thanks so much for reviewing the World Cup article. If I keep thinking of things to add to the Johnson Creek PR, I will. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:39, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
        • Not sure how crazy you are / how much patience you have, but I saw your map at Kmusser's talk page and can tell you how I made the Larrys Creek and White Deer Hole Creek watershed maps. I started with the Census stream map with county and subdivision boundaries turned on. With Paint.net you can rotate image and superimpose them too, so I rotated the maps whose information I wanted to use (I had three maps of the watershed for Larrys and two for WDHC) until they were the same alignment as the free Census map. Then I shrank or blew up the source maps until they fit the free Census map. Then I pasted the Census map in a new layer on top of the source map and traced the watershed borders by hand. Since I had two or three source maps, the result is an average of all sources. You can adjust the opacity of the layer which helped. When I was done I made the layer opaque and used it for the map. I can go into more detail if needed - it is still a lot of work, but you seem skilled at making maps and may want to try it. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:37, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
        • PS Or you may wisely choose to run screaming in the other direction and not try this at all ;-) Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:40, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
          • Actually I did the Larrys map an even crazier way (just Paint), but this should work. I think you can mention the city is in the watershed, even if it is not on the creek itself. The worst "course" I ever had to describe was the path of hiking trail at Laurel_Ridge_State_Park#Course. I knew the Minard map - what a waste of lives, but a great map. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:14, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
            • Glad you liked the course - it took several days off and on to write. This map may be an easier version to do of the neighboring watersheds idea. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:32, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Louvre

Well...I sure wish I had found this category before trying to dig through the Louvre's website in order to find collection info....sigh :) On another note, I'm still trying to figure out what the sentence after "majolicas" means....Looks like I was EWI (Editing while intoxicated) again....Lazulilasher (talk) 23:06, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Oh, dear. Well, I'm glad you found it. I didn't see it either, although it makes sense that someone would have thought to do it long ago. EWI is funny. Did you make that up just now? Finetooth (talk) 00:16, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Juxtaposition COTW

Howdy Ho WikiProject Oregon! Time for another installment of Collaboration of the Week. The last few weeks we’ve knocked out quite a few articles of our current state legislators, and even a few former ones too. Great job to all those who helped make it happen. On a related note, we have had several DYKs from this and now have 53 DYKs so far this year (not counting multiples), less than four full months into the year. Last year we had a total of 83 DYKs for the entire year, and 7 combined for 2006 & 2005. So we are well on our way to another record year. Each time an article makes it to the main page as a DYK it will typically get an extra 1000 hits, which is usually far more than the typical 100 hits per month most minor articles receive. With that said, this week we have two requests, Portland Lumberjax and Silicon Forest. As always, to opt out, opt in, or suggest future collaborative efforts, click here. Peer review

Thanks for the review. I usually read an article, stew on it a bit, then write the PR. Sometimes when I know User:The Rambling Man is also working I will add a brief "I will review this article shortly" notice to the PR page first (usually after reading the lead and making sure I feel I can review it). I can start doing this if it would help. Another idea would be to do a review for the next day (one that will be added the next day, but is not yet on the backlog list) Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:32, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

  • I have started doing the "I will review this article" notice for all my peer reviews. Maybe it will help spread the load. Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 13:55, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
    • Thanks - the {{doing}} template was The Rambling Man's suggestion, but I like it a lot. By the time Dincher and I get all 120 state parks to GA, there will probably be 2 or 3 more new ones. ;-) Ruhrfisch ><>°° 17:17, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

First watershed map

I like it and know it was a lot of work. I follow Kmusser's maps as models and they do not have a black border around the edge of the watershed boundary. I also think the water would look better if it were all one color outside the watershed (now the Willamette and Columbia are light blue and then the other streams are a darker shade). I have no problem leaving Johnson Creek a darker shade as I think it helps make it stand out. Hope my nit picks help, and good work, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:36, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Looking at it again I have a couple more comments - to make it clearer which labels are water features I'd make them a dark blue and I'd flip your italicization (it's a common mapping standard to label water in italics). Kmusser (talk) 18:54, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Johnson Creek

Hey, just wanted to say that I took a look at the article this morning and that I think it is a fascinating read. Lazulilasher (talk) 12:00, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi Finetooth, I put the coordinates of the creek's source (45.4475, -122.28833) into Google Earth and it gives the elevation as 745 feet, while the USGS Topo map for these coordinates at Acme Mapper gives the elevation as about 740 feet. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:15, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
You are very welcome - glad to be of help. The article is excellent and the FAC seems to be off to a good start. I was sorry to see the Discovery map kerfluffle, but international copyright seems to be a huge minefield. Take care, and try not to spend too much time flying around with Google Earth Ruhrfisch ><>°° 10:57, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Copyediting request for Call of Duty 4

Hi, I am requesting a copyedit for Call of Duty 4. I asked Epbr123 (talk · contribs) and he suggested that I contact you for this copyediting request. If you have time, could you please look through the article? It is currently in FAC and someone implored that I request a copyedit of the article from a user who is not involved with the article. Thanks! Gary King (talk) 21:10, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Discovery Map

Yes, I saw that the map had been deleted. From the talk page discussion it seems that there is more than one viewpoint on this. The Commons administrator who did the deletion has now been blocked from Wikipedia for some nameless (unconnected) crime and can't therefore explain. Very annoying for you after the work you did, but our best bet is probably to find a new outline and recreate the map, if you're willing? I'll get back to you. Brianboulton (talk) 07:40, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

I was just about to suggest the same thing. Raul654 (talk) 12:31, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
However, if you look at the article discussion page, the latest information seems to be that we can use the original map you created, provided it carries the same acknowledgement of source as the map on the NOAA website does (presumably the Antarctic Digital Database stuff in the bottom rh corner). This would surely be easier than starting again from scratch? Brianboulton (talk) 13:42, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, the story had a happy ending. Pity the drama had to happen on the day when the article was the Main Page feature, but all is well now, I'm relieved to say. Brianboulton (talk) 10:06, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Canal article

Not sure if you have seen this on the West Branch Division of the Pennsylvania Canal or not, but figured you would like it in any case. I added a dot map to the Johnson Creek Geobox too. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:27, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

  • Glad you liked the article - I am working on expanding Cogan House Covered Bridge (just research right now) and found that in the process. Also glad the dot map is OK, despite being bold I sometimes worry when making changes to such well done articles. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 00:19, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
    • Locator maps for all 50 states are listed at the bottom of my user page if you need one in the future - User:VerruckteDan and I made them. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:05, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
      • Just have to say, those Location Maps are a god-send. Whoever cooked up that idea and made the base template has saved me (and I'm sure countless others) hours of work. I remember that one used to have to, basically, just use trial and error to pinpoint a location. Now all you need to do is cut and paste the coords. More magical than the microwave. More map business

After our trouble with the Discovery map I'm a bit cautious about what I try to use. From your greater experience, can you tell me if this [1] is usable (South Orkney Islands)? I don't really want to start another war with Argentina. Brianboulton (talk) 20:28, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, I made an error in the URL, which I've now corrected, so you will be able to see the map I intended. I'll do as you suggest on my talk page - hope they speak English. Brianboulton (talk) 21:20, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I saw the map on Commons. The point about the one on the Argentine website is that it pinpoints the position of the Orcadas Base, which is relevant to an article I've started to develop. I've emailed the webmaster with my request. Your help much appreciated. Brianboulton (talk) 21:53, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
If he does speak English he's not replying. But no matter - I'll use the Commons map if necessary. Brianboulton (talk) 13:22, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Aiming picture

Hi. I saw your comment about aiming pictures into the page on the British rail peer review. I agree with this. Do you know if it's kosher to create a horizontally/vertically flipped version of an image to switch the aiming? Mrshaba (talk) 22:21, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. The only guidance I've seen was on one of the image style pages that recommended flipping faces (where possible) to make them look into the text. This inspired me to start experimenting with orientations. I hear what you are saying about altering reality but I think there can be situations where reality is unaffected. These two pictures for example.

Congratulations!

Anfield edit conflict

Hi. I was in the middle of a big copyedit of the Anfield article when you made your changes. Can i just confirm: you only removed periods from the captions didn't you? The very first image also had an unnecessary one so i took that out too. Thanks for showing the way! Sillyfolkboy (talk) 00:26, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

And also, i just checked out your user page and see you do copyediting. I've been working on the article Jeff Buckley and was intending to put it through a GA review shortly. If you have the spare time could you give it a read through? It's a middling size article so it might take a while. Thanks. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 01:05, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

No problems, i know there's a million and one things to do on wikipedia! Make sure to have a quick scan over the Anfield article still. While i've made a few articles this is the first complete wiki copyedit i've done and i'm still pretty new. A different set of eyes often spots all kinds of things. I kind of guess it's been looked over by User:NapHit a couple of times though. Cheers. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 02:57, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

I would, but I reviewed a couple articles recently -- And none of the submitters ever made any changes to their articles, despite my huge list of things they could do. So sometimes, I think it's useless doing a peer review if the editor won't start to fix the article up. I, on the other hand, try my best to see to every issue that pops up. Double list problem, Nimrod Expedition

Further research on this mystery suggests that this is a browser issue. Whether or not a double list is visible on the screen depends on your browser. If you have the "wrong" one, as I apparently have, you'll never see the doubled list. Brianboulton (talk) 18:49, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

QWERTY: Oregon COTW

Hello WikiProject Oregon participants, time for another edition of Collaboration of the Week. Last week we made some great improvements to Wallowa-Whitman National Forest and Oregon Ballot Measure 47 (1996), with a DYK for the forest. Great job everyone! Request for Peer Review help

Thank you for you work as a peer review volunteer. Since March, there has been a concerted effort to make sure all peer review requests get some response. Requests that have gone three days or longer without a substantial response are listed at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog. I have three requests to help this continue.

1) If you are asked to do a peer review, please ask the person who made the request to also do a review, preferably of a request that has not yet had feedback. This is fairly simple, but helps. For example when I review requests on the backlog list, I close with Hope this helps. If my comments are useful, please consider peer reviewing an article, especially one at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog (which is how I found this article). Yours, ...

2) While there are several people who help with the backlog, lately I have been doing up to 3 or 4 peer reviews a day and can not keep this up much longer. We need help. Since there are now well over 100 names on the PR volunteers page, if each volunteer reviewed just one PR request without a response from the list each month, it would easily take care of the "no response" backlog. To help spread out the load, I suggest those willing pick a day of the month and do a review that day (for example, my first edit was on the 8th, so I could pick the 8th). Please pick a peer review request with no responses yet, if possible off the backlog list. If you want, leave a note on my talk page as to which day you picked and I will remind you each month.

3) I have made some proposals to add some limits to peer review requests at Wikipedia_talk:Peer_review#Proposed_limits. The idea is to prevent any one user from overly burdening the process. These seem fairly reasonable (one PR request per editor per day, only four total PR requests per editor at a time, PR requests with cleanup banners can be delisted (like GAN quick fail), and wait two weeks to relist a PR request after it is archived), but have gotten no feedback in one week. If you have any thoughts on these, please weigh in.

Thanks again for your help and in advance for any assistance with the backlog. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:03, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, I think I can follow the model for Buttonwood Covered Bridge and at least get it to GA if not FA too. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:42, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

My long term plans include getting a bunch more creeks to FA - they are almost all larger than the creek FAs I have already worked on, so I am a bit daunted by the task - I tend to try and find everything possible, but think these may be too big for that. Lycoming Creek, Muncy Creek, Loyalsock Creek, Pine Creek (Pennsylvania), Little Pine Creek, Babb Creek - all in dire need of expansion. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:48, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
I have seen the Owassi Rapids from above (west rim) but not run them - will keep your advice in mind if / when I do Ruhrfisch ><>°° 18:57, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

PowerBook 100 Copyedit

Hello. I would really appreciate it if you could copyedit this as soon as possible. Afterwards, I intend to put it up at FAC. Thanks for your help with Macintosh Classic and also the Detroit Automobile Company peer review. — Wackymacs (talk ~ edits) 16:53, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

No rush - its on my watchlist so I'll notice when you start copyediting it. Thanks. — Wackymacs (talk ~ edits) 17:50, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

X marks the WPOR COTW spot

Guten Tag WikiProject Oregon team members! Great job last week with the Collaboration of the Week, we improved George Lemuel Woods and added eleven new state park articles. This past week we also surpassed the 6000 article mark as a project. The weather may suck, but WPORE is not. For this week we have by request Music of Oregon and Phil Knight. Both need some help, and with Knight we might be able to improve it to GA standards. Once again, to opt out of these messages, leave your name here, or click here to make a suggestion. Things visible from New York State Route 32

Mitch and I have been discussing your concern that my description of Route 32 (well, as far as Albany, at least) had some bits about views from the road that you thought might be original research without a cite, and which he accordingly removed from the article.

I had taken this picture specifically to illustrate and support the adjacent text about the views that open up just south of New Paltz. I added geocoding to the file page to further help verify that it was taken along NY 32 south of New Paltz. Per WP:OI this is permitted and encouraged. I am in support of restoring the bit about the views given that it was actually illustrated right next to the text in question; Mitch seems to agree. What's your opinion? Daniel Case (talk) 13:41, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

As it happens, I'm driving up to Albany today and I will be getting off the Thruway specifically to take an image verifying that. (I think you could also verify rock cuts by citing either the topo map or an aerial/satellite photo ... they would be evident in both). Daniel Case (talk) 11:45, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Nimrod needs help

I'm sorry to ask for your help—you've given my work plenty of time in the past. However, the Nimrod Expedition article is at FAC, and has been handed a somewhat negative oppose. This reviewer has given a few nit-picky examples of his concerns, and I've asked him to spell out the rest so that I can take appropriate action. All he has said is that the article needs a "thorough copyedit" from an "involved editor", whatever that means. I’m not asking you to do this; actually, I don't agree that a further detailed copyedit is necessary. While I believe that any article can be improved, I've trawled through this one many times, others have taken a hand, and I think that there’s no more mileage to be had from such general editing. What I believe is necessary is for this reviewer, and others, to voice specific concerns that I can address. I'll deal with any number if I know what they are. Would it be possible, if you agree, for you to come to the FAC review and perhaps reinforce this point? There is, incidentally, some support on the review page, but I want this opposer to open out and give me a basis for resolving his problems. Brianboulton (talk) 11:42, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply and offer. Yes, please, do go ahead with a final copyedit, and bring the results to FAC. Perhaps GaryKing will be more forthcoming. I am really grateful. Brianboulton (talk) 16:51, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the very full copyediting you did on Nimrod. It's amazing how, when you think that an article has been picked to death, someone else can come along and improve it - often in fairly obvious ways, too. I see that the oppose has been struck - maybe a tactical move to see what develops. We shall see, but your support has been excellent. Brianboulton (talk) 13:24, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Creatures of Impulse

Hi! We're moving this towards FA, and I was wondering if you could help with copyediting. All the references should be in place - poke me if anything isn't.

It's had a peer review, and has passed Good Article, so hopefully is in the last stages before FA, but we'd like to have a smooth, easy FAC =) Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 21:37, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 01:06, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Creatures of Impulse

Great! Looking forward to seeing what you do with it. =) Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 16:51, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

The reward of a good copyeditor...

... is more work. :-) I see you're really busy with requests but if you do have time, I was wondering if you'd mind giving Steve Dahl a good working over? It's at peer review currently. I plan to bring it to FA in the near future and would love to have it cleaner than Madman Muntz was when I nominated it. If you're too busy, no worries. Nobody of Consequence (talk) 06:14, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Creatures of Impulse footnoting

I revised the awkward quadruple footnoting into just two sets - I think it's useful to have footnotes in the synopsis section, though, as they're somewhat more important, and it would be awkward not to be able to tell a simple reference from a textual difference. Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 07:24, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Hey-o! Just wanted to check in with you and see what you think ogf the state of the article. Don't want to move forward with it until it gets your pass =) Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 20:26, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Aye, can never predict everything, but I really do appreciate all your work =) Thanks! Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 22:30, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Actually... heh, echoing Consequence above... do you think you'd be willing to copyedit Trial by Jury as well? It's 99% ready for an FAC; just waiting for a contributor to have time to look up page numbers for a couple refs =) Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 17:07, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Fair enough. Anyway, it'll be a week or so yet before Trial will have jumped through all the hoops, more if it stagnates at GAC, so there's no real rush. Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 18:07, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

A is for Apple at COTW

Hello again to those of the WikiProject we call Oregon. Time for another edition of Collaboration of the Week. Last week there was some good improvements to Music of Oregon and Phil Knight, great job everyone. This week, by request is the Applegate Trail, which is short enough to easily conjure up a DYK. Then, I’m trying something a little different, with the Portland State stuff. We included the two high profile schools during Civil War week last year, so now its time for the younger sibling that gets no respect to get some attention. After all, it is the largest college in the state. Feel free to help with whatever aspects you like, though to help with some ideas I added some to the article talk page. Click here to opt out of these messages, or click here to make a suggestion for a future COTW. Nana na na, hey hey hey, goouud byeeee. Aboutmovies (talk) 08:13, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Nimrod

Warm thanks to you for helping Nimrod to FA, and for the general interest that you have shown in this series of expedition articles. The centenary of Nimrod's farthest south is on 9 January next, and I will be proposing it as main page for that date. My series is complete, so far as major British Anarctic expeditions is concerned, but I shall continue to work on Antarctic and Arctic themes and people, not always with FAC in mind, though. There's lots still to do. Thanks again, Brianboulton (talk) 10:01, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Another request for copy-editing

Hello. An article I have written, Brian Horrocks, is currently at FAC and is in need of a further copyedit to satisfy criteria 1A. You were highly recommended by User:Wackymacs and I was wondering if you are able to help? I understand if you're too busy to take it on, but I'd welcome any assistance or advice you can offer. Thank you. Leithp 21:05, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Hello... I guess you get a lot of these... Could you ce Solar energy or suggest some other copy editors that may be able to help. Cheers. Mrshaba (talk) 18:47, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

I understand completely. Cheers Mrshaba (talk) 23:10, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
I just thought I'd let you know, I copyedited Solar energy, so you can remove it from your epic-sounding stack of requests if you want. Feel free to look it over again though, obviously: the more eyes the better. Plus we could call it a proofread and strike it off the WP:LOCE/R list. Also, do you mind if I put you down as having done the copyedit of Brian Horrocks, despite the fact you've left LOCE? There's not much point keeping it on the list for it to be copyedited again given the excellent job you've done already. Adacore (talk) 04:08, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Re: Geobox Problem

Dincher noticed a problem with Geobox Bridge about the same time, which has also been resolved without any action on his part. I did not see the problems. My guess is there was either Geobox vandalism or a good faith code change that had unintended consequences, or perhaps something with the Wiki software (Peer Review was truncated a while ago because of that). Thanks for the heads up and glad your magic solved the problem. Balch Creek looks lovely and is a nice article - you could perhaps beat Plunketts Creek for shortest stream that is an FA. Populating a map

Hi Finetooth: I was reading the article "Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition", which is excellent, and I noticed the map you worked on showing the route the Endurance took. I was wondering if you could possibly populate a map of New England for me for the article about the Dining Late with Claude La Badarian serial narrative. I've listed the details at Wikipedia:Graphic Lab/Images to improve under the section 'Map of New England showing Claude La Badarian's travels'. If you could help I would greatly appreciate it.-Manhattan Samurai (talk) 08:54, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi Finetooth: Thanks for the info. I have a crap computer unfortunately, so crap that Firefox 3 has been a god send with its big speed improvements. I am looking to see if maybe there is a university computer where I can install the requisite software but that course is unlikely. But I'm still hoping someone skilled in this department can help me out. I always enjoy collaboration, especially when it's productive. Again, thanks for giving me an overview as to how it could be done.-Manhattan Samurai (talk) 11:31, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Xtra COTW

Greeting once again WikiProject Oregon Folks. Time for another edition of the Collaboration of the Week. First, thank you to those who helped out on the last few COTWs. This week we have the soon to open Westside Express Service, formerly the Washington County Commuter Rail, so lets see if we can get it up to WPORE standards. Then there is a Coordinates Drive to add coordinates to any articles currently missing them, to help increase readership by allowing them to be shown on Google Earth/Maps. PR Review

Thanks for alerting me about the new "PR experiment". I'm very interested to see how things turn out! However i won't be able to be part of the "gang of 10" kernel, largely because i'm in the middle of moving so my internet access will be sporadic at best. I'll still look to do 2-3 every month, as usual. Arguments about people not responding seem well founded and 'the a one day/four at once' limit seems like a clear idea and prevents accidental misuse of the service by users unaware of what PR actually consists of. And regarding the talkpage thing - No i don't have a userpage and this serves various purposes: A rejection of the need for userpages, making my "red name/blue talk" stand out when signing, and a strange social experiment to identify how regular users react to someone who looks like a 'redpage new user' (but who actually makes decent edits!). Thanks and i'll keep an eye on the PR review experiment. Good luck. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 04:13, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Ayyavazhi - Copy Edit Help

Sir, I found you from the LOCE page. Iam a non-native english editor in Wikipedia and so my English is not well enough to write an article in FA standard. For over several months I've worked in the Ayyavazhi article and've brought it to the present level. The article has also been nominated for FAC and GA but failed. The most important among few reasons is the writen language (low standard english). The other reason then was the citations and now it was rectified. By now the only problem, if exist, may be the 'written language' which may be cleared out by a copy-edit from a good copy-editor well-versed in English.

To be noted, The article also was requested for copy-edit in the LOCE page and was over there for nearly 1 year. But no one did it. Later the request was archived. I wish to nominate the article for FAC. I've seen your user page and noted your broad wiki-edits and too noticed that you could be able to write with proffesional level in English. I feel it will be very much helpful if you can help me. So I kindly request you to do the Copy-edit work in the article and very much request you to give your suggestions for promoting it to FAC level. Also I request to be patient while copy-editing because there are too many citations (foot notes) in the article and so while editing in edit box it may confuse you. Thanks - PAUL RAJ 18:18, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Ernest Joyce

I wonder if I could ask you, when you have a few minutes, to look at this article, currently on peer review. It's one of my tenderfoot articles, started last autumn, abandoned, resuscitated and now put, hopefully, into decent shape. User:Ruhrfisch, who has reviewed it, believes it is FA material but suggests another opinion would be useful. The story and the locale will be familiar to you from earlier articles, maps, etc., though you probably won't know Joyce, a relatively minor but nevertheless interesting character. I would very much appreciate an opinion, and/or suggestions for improvement. Brianboulton (talk) 10:18, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your speedy response to my request, for your suggested improvements, all of which I have adopted, and for your copyedits. I am most grateful. I expect I shall fuss over the article for a day or two, but I'll let you know when it goes to FAC. Brianboulton (talk) 22:05, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the note. I will nominate Joyce later this week; if you are able, during your time away, to pay a brief visit to FAC, then so much the better. Otherwise, if the candidature is still open after 20th, you'll be welcome then. Have a good break. Brianboulton (talk) 10:54, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Qrazy sale at COTW! Act now! Total liquidation!

Greetings WikiProject Oregon folks, time for another edition of the Collaboration of the Week! Last week we saw some good improvements made to Westside Express Service, while we also worked on a Coordinates Drive. I don’t know how many articles had the coordinates added to, but thanks to those who helped out. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Crozier.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Crozier.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 19:32, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Forksville Covered Bridge

Thanks very much for your peer review of Forksville Covered Bridge - I have finally made the edits and replied. I found some more information on the sufficienty rating (although not the specifics for the way it was calculated for this bridge) and the number of deficient and obsolete bridges in Pennsylvania in 2007. I am not sure how much of this, if any, to include in the article. Thanks Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:23, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

  • I added a note and made the walkways clearer (hopefully) Thanks again and hope your travels go well Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:39, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
    • Thanks - it is at FAC now. I will add the note to all the covered bridge articles I work on too. I thought of making it a separate note with inline refs of its own (like those in List of Pennsylvania state parks) but thought it was OK this way. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 13:08, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi Finetooth, as I see that the League of Copyeditors has been shut down, I was wondering if you could point my in the direction of where I could get an article copyedited. If you could, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance, Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 17:28, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Alright, thanks. I'll ask around. Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 23:53, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Roman-Persian Wars

Hi! I've nominated this article at FAC. Expanded and sourced by me, the article has been copy-edited by Dank55, Ceoil, and during the FAC by Casliber. During the FAC Tony raised a series of issues concerning the prose. Dank seems to be on wikibreak and Ceoil burdened with much work to do in FAR! After all, I think fresh eyes would be a nice idea for the article right now. Therefore, I would be grateful if you could have a look at the prose-related issues raised, and at prose throughout the article, in case you have time. Thanks!--Yannismarou (talk) 16:40, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Of course, I would like you to continue to the end! The prose seems further improved after your valuable work, and star or no star, it would be good for the article to continue your excellent copy-editing! Cheers!--Yannismarou (talk) 11:27, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

M-28

You did such a good job on M-35, I was wondering if you could copy edit M-28 (Michigan highway) for me at some point? If not, do you have someone you could recommend. It was nominated prematurely by an uninvolved editor (and his description was praise enough), but it needed some tweaking before the nomination and he didn't follow through. I'd like to get it copy edited before renominating it now that I have the time to see the FAC through. Imzadi1979 (talk) 21:07, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Yes, but no one there has indicated a preference for highways. Thanks though. Imzadi1979 (talk) 22:35, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
