Week 7/Peer review/Boboandy
The article I reviewed is about trance music. I had never heard about this term before but I am very familiar with this kind of music. It is not easy to find appropriate sources for topic that you do not know. I really learned how to add a neutral tone to the article from the review. Here is the link of my peer review: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Irisnan1009/Trance_music/Boboandy_Peer_Review and here is also the edit I did: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Trance_music&type=revision&diff=924252954&oldid=918311429. I really practiced about how to search for the neutral tone and summarize it. Boboandy (talk) 19:18, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- Boboandy, Nice edits. The only suggestion it to explain more about what you added, so it is not just a quote, but also about what that quote means and how it helps to add meaning to the article for others who will see it for the first time. FULBERT (talk) 00:49, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
Week 8/Peer review/Boboandy
In this week I read a new article about the new media studies. The editors are working hard to keep the source up-to-date. I also add URL to one of the source since it is missing. Here is the peer review link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Jingw99/New_media_studies/Boboandy_Peer_Review and here is my changes: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=New_media_studies&type=revision&diff=924256095&oldid=919971288 I learned how to edit the source that exist but miss some parts like URL. Boboandy (talk) 19:18, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- Boboandy, Please assign yourself this article for editing, which you did to it, and not for reviewing it (as you actually edited it). Then ping me here and I will review it again. FULBERT (talk) 00:52, 8 November 2019 (UTC)

Week 9/Move Work Out of Sandbox/Dragonroll
1. This week, I went through the tutorial which teaches me the steps of editing an article and creating a new page and so on. I have edited a few parts in the article "Women in engineering" and published the modifications already. 2. In this week's assignment, I learned how to edit an article. I need to remember to add a summary describing what I have changed. I also learned how to move the draft out of the sandbox, how to name an article, and how to create a Wikipedia page.Dragonroll (talk) 19:42, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
- Dragonroll, Great! Do you have anything else to add about the area of your focus, Women in engineering? FULBERT (talk) 00:58, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
Week 7/ Peer Review and Article Citation/ Nul90
I did a peer review on @WILL.I.AMM article about LGBT. I though the article was well written and it was neutral which I really liked. It was also very informative and i check on some citations which were relevant to the topic. I also assigned myself another article which I did some changed to and also found a relevant recourse to use. It had a topic on health and I thought it could of been more detailed in describing how humans health is a big impact from the climate change. Here is what I added https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Effects_of_global_warming&type=revision&diff=924643746&oldid=918998024.Nul90 (talk) 02:36, 5 November 2019 (UTC)
- Nul90, Nice edits on an important topic. FULBERT (talk) 01:01, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
Week 8/ Peer review feedback and citation / Nul90
I have found another article that could use a some more information in regards the reason why people are skeptical about climate change. The journal I chose states exactly why some people are skeptical and its important to address. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Climate_change_denial&type=revision&diff=924648267&oldid=924614537. I also reviewed my article and I didn't have any feedback on my article.Nul90 (talk) 02:56, 5 November 2019 (UTC)
- Nul90, Good edits. FULBERT (talk) 01:02, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
Week 9/Move Work Out of Sandbox/ Nul90
I learned how to move your work out of the sandbox by taking the training. I honestly prefer going to the article directly and making the edits. I believe its more beneficial making the changes directly to the article you are working on as appose to going through the sandbox. I think the sandbox is a tool for note keeping which i can understand the use of it especially if you are editing a lot of articles, but the way I have been editing articles is though the direct article because its makes it easier for me to read thought the articles and timidity make the appropriate change.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Nul90/sandbox Nul90 (talk) 18:02, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
- Nul90, Good points. FULBERT (talk) 01:04, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
Week 8/ Response to Peer Review/ Cj1447
In this week, I did the peer review again. After the first time in peer review, the second one is more handy and adroitly. Last week I did not find someone do the peer review for me, so I will choose another classmate’s article to review. I play the Pokémon when I was young, then I choose Boboandy’s article. I find that he changes the date in an event, and also add a reference in the article. That make this article more rigorous. Here is the link of peer review: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Boboandy/Pok%C3%A9mon_(video_game_series)/Cj1447_Peer_Review I also add one reference in this article. I think in this article, it needs more reference to support it. Week 7/Peer review/Cj1447
This week, I learned about how to review the article which is selected by my classmate. That will help me a lot in writing Wiki article. By reading others’ article, I can learn about the review skills in different perspectives. That can help me to make progress in the edit of Wiki. So, I read the Irisnan1009’s article and review the edit. She added two references in the article. And I not only learn the skills in review article, but also learn a lot in music festive. Here is the link of peer review: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Irisnan1009/Trance_music/Cj1447_Peer_Review And I also add one reference in this article. About "expert needed" tag in the article Haining Library
Hi, FULBERT!
In the article Haining Library, you gave a tag of expert needed and explained, "A reviewer fluent in Chinese to confirm citations and translations is needed.."Since I am the translator of this article and I am a native Chinese speaker, I just want to know whether you find anything to do with the translation that is ambiguous, unclear, imprecise or that you are just not quite sure about, and such that you gave a tag of expert needed, and whether you have any other comment on my translation. I am not against introducing a reviewer but just want to get some feedback from you. Thanks in advance.
--Unravel17 (talk) 19:46, 12 November 2019 (UTC)
- Unravel17, Thanks for reaching out with this question. I found the English language in the article fine overall, though as I do not speak nor read Chinese, I wanted somebody who was not associated with the article to verify some of the sources and citations that were used, as those are also in Chinese and then translated into English. This is more for a spot check, something I frequently do with new English articles as well as part of the new article review process, to help ensure the information is used accurately and credibly. Without my knowing Chinese, I can still approve the article as reviewed, but think having a native speaker confirm consistency between what the citations actually state and what was written would help ensure the process. FULBERT (talk) 19:53, 12 November 2019 (UTC)
- FULBERT, the Chinese version of the article is a good article and a featured article candidate, so the accuracy and credibility of the citation and sources should already be checked. (Yet, to be honest, Chinese Wikipedia does not strictly follow this partly because of thoroughly different media presentation due to divided political stances, so I am not against further review.) Since the article is undergoing its third vote procedure, I think it has been checked by more people than most other articles in Chinese Wikipedia.
- Hopefully, I will check for the major updates in the Chinese version and translate them into English. I do wish there could be more reviewers, but I feel that there are very few Wikipedians fluent in Chinese who want to help with these articles unrelated to the controversial topics about China, e.g. politics and history (I think there may be a reporting bias due to translators' interests). Anyway, thanks for explaining what you meant by the tag and have a good day.
- --Unravel17 (talk) 20:34, 12 November 2019 (UTC)
- Unravel17, Thanks for this, I think it is all of these individual steps that help us increase our credibility and value for our global users, so glad we can together improve the articles or confirm as best we can their accuracy. The best for your day. FULBERT (talk) 11:29, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
Saturday Nov 16: Wikipedia Asian Month Edit-a-thon @ Metropolitan Museum of Art
Saturday November 16, 12:30 pm - 4:30pm: Metropolitan Museum of Art Edit-a-thon | |
---|---|
The Wikipedia Asian Month Edit-a-thon @ The Met will be hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Saturday November 16, 2019 in the Bonnie Sacerdote Classroom, Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education (81st Street entrance) at The Met Fifth Avenue in New York City. The museum is excited to work with Wikipedia Asian Month for the potential to seed new articles about Asian artworks, artwork types, and art traditions, from any part of Asia. These can be illustrated with thousands of its recently-released images of public domain artworks available for Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons from the museum’s collection spanning 5,000 years of art. The event is an opportunity for Wikimedia communities to engage The Met's diverse Asian collections onsite and remotely. Asia Art Archive will host a sister event in Hong Kong next week.
Thanks, and hope to see you there! --Wikimedia New York City Team 16:45, 14 November 2019 (UTC) |

Week 10/ Continue Improving Your Article/ Dragonroll
After I followed the guide on the timeline, I added pictures in the article that I am working on. I learned how to add pictures in the article. In the meantime, I realized a few types of licenses, such as CC BY-SA, CC BY, and CCO. It is important to use others' work with appropriate permission. There is an easy way to find a picture that I can use. It's called CC search.Dragonroll (talk) 20:34, 15 November 2019 (UTC)

Growth team updates #11
Welcome to the eleventh newsletter from the Growth team!
The Growth team's objective is to work on software changes that help retain new contributors in mid-size Wikimedia projects.
General news
- Expanding to more wikis: the team is preparing to deploy Growth features to Ukrainian and Hungarian Wikipedias. Wikis that already have the features are Czech, Korean, Arabic, Vietnamese, and Basque Wikipedias. If your community is enthusiastic about welcoming newcomers, we encourage you to contact us so that we can verify together if your wiki is eligible. Then you can go through the checklist to start the process of configuring the features.
- Mentor training: we tried out our first training for mentors with the Czech community, so that experienced users can build skills that help them retain newcomers.
- The guide for mentors has been updated. Translations are welcomed!
Help panel results
The help panel was first deployed to newcomers in January 2019, and we have now finished analyzing data to determine its impact. A brief summary is below, and more in-depth information can be found here (in English).
- In summary, although we have seen a good amount of usage of the help panel, the help panel has not shown an increase in activation (whether a user makes their first edit) or retention (whether a user returns to edit again).
- This is a disappointing result, and our team has discussed potential reasons for the result and ideas for the future. Although we have many ideas for how to improve the help panel, we have decided to keep our attention on the newcomer homepage and newcomer tasks projects for the coming months.
- We'll be using the help panel as part of the newcomer tasks project: using it to guide newcomers while they complete suggested edits.

Newcomer tasks deployment
- The first version of the newcomer tasks workflow (V1.0) will be deployed in the next weeks on our 4 priority wikis. This version will suggest articles to edit based on maintenance templates. In this first version, we expect many newcomers to initiate the workflow, but not many to select articles to edit or complete edits. We expect future versions of the feature to increase those behaviors.
- We're excited about this project because the majority of newcomers visit their newcomer homepage, and this will be the first element of the homepage that clearly asks the newcomer to start editing.
- These are the next two versions of the feature, which are already being planned:
- V1.1 (topic matching): will allow newcomers to choose topics of interest (such as Art, Music, Sports, or Technology) to personalize their suggestions. After evaluating several approaches, we have decided to use a new ORES model built by the WMF Scoring team. The model will automatically identify the topic area of each article. We expect this to increase how often newcomers select articles to edit.
- V1.2 (guidance): once newcomers arrive on an article to edit, we will use the help panel to provide guidance about how to complete the editing task. We expect this to increase how many newcomers actually complete productive edits.
- The project page includes links to the designs of the workflow, and we welcome questions and thoughts on the talk page.

Week 9/Move Work Out of Sandbox/ tt1887
This week, I reviewed my revision on Digital Image Processing. I found out that I can add more details in the History section to prove that Digital Image Processing has played an important role in human history. Therefore, I added some history about digital image processing technology applications in the medical area. This part can also reduce the time gap between the 1970s to the modern era. In this process, I learned that listening to others’ ideas is very important and we should review our work more and make it better for others to understand our article.
