Referencing of NSBHS notable alumni list edit

I have not yet received a reply to my email to the school requesting an alumni list. And as you have pointed out you cannot reference something unless it is publicly available, i.e. something someone can go to the library to have a look at. Reference value of a secretive list is equivalent to the reference value of my imagination.

Having looked for everyone on the list in Who's Who in Australia 1943, 1965 and 1985 and referencing them if they appear, and having looked in Monash Biographical Dictionary of 20th Century Australia. I suggest the following: 1. Look in later Who's Who, one from the mid 90's and one from between 2000 and 2006, 2. Search the Australian Dictionary of Biography which is more comprehensive (and authoritative) than Who's Who and covers only deceased persons, 3. Place a 14 day ultimatum on all 'notable' Old Boys to be deleted who haven't by then had either a Wikipedia article or stub on them or a reference.

This last part will be controversial and seems like something an administrator should do and also facilitate a discussion for purposes of consensus, as the change is sort of equivilent to merging or deleting an article. But I do not know anything about Wiki policy regarding such matters. What are you thoughts? Grumpyyoungman01 11:50, 20 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Mathura Krish edit

The article has been created again. This time there is a list of movies the person is supposed to have worked in. However, none of those movie pages on www.imdb.com has that name! Google search gives 2 results, both having nothing to do with anything written in the article. deeptrivia (talk) 12:21, 20 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Interesting... edit

... I never knew that about Geoff Bullock, but figures from what I've seen/heard of HillSong. Feel sorry for Geoff Bullock (not sure if you realise this, but he is a very significant figure in Australian christian circles). Anyway, I agree: large slabs of text quoted are not really welcome, but the pasted quote (if it can be verified) IMO should be summarised and cited. - Ta bu shi da yu 12:59, 22 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of Baba Yetu article edit

Baba Yetu is the title song to the computer game Civilization IV. Many people who play the game notice that it is an excellent song, but wonder as to what its saying, since it is sung in Swahili. The Baba Yetu page explained that the lyrics are based on 'The Lords Prayer' and showed both the english translation and the Swahili lyrics.

At the worst this page should have been moved to the Civilization IV page, but I don't understand why it would have been deleted. I would at least like a copy of the article if it cannot be undeleted, although i would like to 'challenge' its deletion if at all possible.

Sahuagin 20:54, 24 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

It was deleted because it was reposted content that was deleted previously by concensus: see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Baba yetu. enochlau (talk) 10:19, 25 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
why was it deleted if are there 6 votes to keep vs. 2 votes to delete at that link? could i at least have the article's text to copy to a different article, such as the Civilization IV article? like a few of the Keep votes say, many people wonder about the song, and look it up here, and learn about it, which is supposed to be the function of an encyclopedia. Page Deletion edit

24 Feb 2006 Why did you delete the page on Ralph McGehee the CIA critic? What does "nn bio" mean? Thanks

"nn bio" means that it was determined that the article did not express the notability of the subject of the article. enochlau (talk) 10:21, 25 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fingers of Pyrex edit

Hi - I notice you recently deleted Fingers-of-Pyrex's user page "at user's request" - did he give any reasons why he's left WP? It's a shame he did - he was a very helpful and friendly editor and did a great deal of work on the stub-sorting projects. It'll be sad not seeing his sig on things there. Grutness...wha? 06:28, 25 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Template:Infobox Aust school edit

I corrected the spelling of 'enrolment' in this infobox to reflect Australian spelling (see related comment) but this has stuffed up all articles with the infobox. DO you know how to get a bot to do this? Or maybe we tap someone with the AWB to do it. Thoughts? Thanks. Harro5 05:27, 26 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re: Category:Hong Kong cultural icons edit

When I was editing it didn't appear as a red link in the box beneath the article. Was there a problem with MediaWiki by then? I'd prefer keeping the category, and in fact there's already several similar categories for other countries. — Instantnood 10:02, 26 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

(Replied on user page. enochlau (talk) 10:13, 26 February 2006 (UTC))Reply
The problem when I was editing last night, the category navigational boxes did not display non-existing categories as red links, and I wasn't able to tell instantaneously what was existing and what was not. There are probably more articles belonging to this category. FYI, similar categories include, to name a few, category:national symbols of Canada, category:Scottish cultural icons and category:Greek cultural icons. — Instantnood 19:41, 26 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hey! edit

Hey, I'm just wondering if my Ella Koon forum is ready to be placed under Ella's information? The link is: http://s14.invisionfree.com/Sweet_Ella/ Take a look at it and check out Ella's personal message to our forum while you're at it! Thanks in advance! The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.122.100.72 (talk • contribs) .

Let's take a look at Wikipedia:External links shall we?
  • Under the heading "Occasionally acceptable links" #3, we usually permit major fan sites. Your site does not appear in the first 5 pages of results when you do a search on Google for "ella koon". Other fan sites do appear in the first few pages of results. Your site is not a major fan site.
  • Under the heading "Links to normally avoid" #9, you are pressing for a website that you maintain to be added to the list of external links. Without sounding too harsh, if your website is so prominent, others will add it in due course.

Hi, I've put up I think a few links on Les Twentyman that should help explain his prominence etc. Could you have a look at it and give me your thoughts. There's a fair bit to do, he is very well known in Melbourne, both for his humanitarian work but also the political side. DarrenRay 10:27, 8 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

University of Western Australia edit

Hi. You reverted this edit by Kransky to University of Western Australia with your roll back function. As this is not a clear-cut case of vandalism, the use of roll back probably isn't very appropriate. - Mark 05:15, 22 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of 'Gobbet' article edit

I was just wondering why you deleted the article on Gobbets? The delete log doesn't list any reason and I can't see why you would.

Could you please reply to this talk page as I don't have my own.

Thanks

It was tagged with "nonsense", probably because it had the words "Conan is a prick.Screw you." in it. I've done a Google search and it seems like a reasonable topic, so I'll undelete and remove those offending words. Cheers. enochlau (talk) 23:50, 24 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fayette County Productions edit

Fayette County Productions is listed on Afd (see Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Log/2006_March_28 item 1.24 on TOC). However, the AfD is pointing to an old debate (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fayette County Productions) that you closed as a delete in December. I was wondering if you would care to look at it and see if it's speedable as reposted material? That would save having to fix the nomination... Thanks! -- JLaTondre 04:28, 28 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
