You're a sysop! edit

Hi, Enochlau/Archive 2005b, Congratulations on Becoming a Sysop

Hey there. I'm pleased to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator! You've volunteered to do housekeeping duties that normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except patent nonsense like "aojt9085yu8;3ou"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, ban anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on Votes for deletion (provided there's a consensus) for more than one week, protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Wikipedia up to date.

Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. If you have any questions drop me a message at My talk page. Have fun! =Nichalp «Talk»=

Please also add your name to WP:LA. =Nichalp «Talk»= 04:12, 2 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Deepmix edit

IMHO, I think you're reading CSD A3 too narrowly. By the standards you give, I could create an article whose sole contents are "Here is a picture of my cat," followed by a link, and you would not consider that speediable under A3. If A3 doesn't apply here, A1 surely must. The article tells us nothing about the radio station, what its listenership is like, what if any significance it has. If you disagree, please feel free to remove the speedy tag and send it to AfD instead. Regards, howcheng [ t • c • w • e ] 23:59, 2 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

KNTC edit

The reason why I tagged it for speedy delete was that I assumed it was a copyvio, since the contributor's other articles were aslo copyvios. I haven't found an exact match for this, but this link comes close. Sorry for the inconvenience, but the article as it stands doesn't come out good at all. I was going to tag it for cleanup, but as I originally entered this, it was deleted anyway. ErikNY 02:23, 3 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Afraid of banstick... edit

Hello, i have recently been adding some lore for the online game Dark and Light. This lore draws on established mythology, but the Agnar(DnL) page has been deleted, even though i am quite sure that i cited my sources, and i was not even contacted about the deletion... it was just removed... i would go and recreate the page, and be sure that i cited my sources (as can be found on Gothar) but i am a little afraid of the banstick... Concerning Frederick Noel Dotson III edit

Looking back at the history of this article --Frederick Noel Dotson III - in the initial comments, the author indicated it was about his/her father -- "(This article is solely about my father.)" The article says "presiding", not "president" - I think the author meant "residing". There is a town called Oracle in Arizona. As far I could find, there is no Dotson associated with Oracle -- thus the nomination for speedy delete. At this point, an anon IP has blanked the article. ERcheck 03:11, 4 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

 • BTW - president of Oracle is Charles Philips and Oracle main offices are in California, not Arizona. ERcheck 03:19, 4 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

It's probably too late — I missed the AfD — but I would have voted to move the page to List of historical people portrayed as heroes, with restrictions similar to those at List of historical people portrayed as villains. It doesn't seem to me that there was a strong consensus on the AfD page, but I defer to your judgement. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 20:25, 5 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Yes, please, it would be wonderful if you could provide me with the former content of List of non-fictional heroes. I won't be able to work on the proposed List of historical people portrayed as heroes for some time, but when I do have time it would be great to have this as a resource. Just a reminder; when you re-create an article with deletedpage you should protect it (as I've just done for List of non-fictional heroes. Articles that aren't being created frequently enough to need protection don't need to have the template either. —Cryptic (talk) 16:44, 9 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Skin Cell/Human Skin Model edit

Hello, I need to make a model of a skin cell/human skin, but I'm having problems as to how to go about doing that. I was searching for information about human skin and I rememered Wikipedia is usually a great source to refer to so I decided to take a visit. Maddox Jolie-Pitt edit

Hi, I noticed you removed the nn-bio tag from him. I've been under the impression that a person isn't considered famous here because of their parentage, and they only warrant a mention on the parents' pages. The kid is only around 7 years old so I don't think he can be notable yet on his own merits. (I googled him up before tagging that). I missed Zahara Jolie-Pitt though (created by the same user), and she's 9 months old.

However, since we're having a (one-sided) discussion, I'm not really sure what should be done to them (afd?), since someone's bound to keep recreating the articles. Normally you could redirect, but sadly both of the parents are famous so you couldn't really just choose one :( - Bobet 01:41, 6 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Nah, I agree it's probably better just to leave the article there (although it would be more suited for a tabloid than an encyclopedia, someone's bound to search for that at some point). I'll just clean it up a bit and find a reference link. Sorry for being so hasty on putting the tag up, I didn't really think it through at first. - Bobet 02:26, 6 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Well, I looked, and found that he isn't a jolie-pitt yet, so I'm just confused now. Maybe I should start reading tabloids or something. I moved Zahara Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Jolie, but there already was a page about Maddox (which redirects to angelina jolie), so you'll have to move it. And now I feel like I'd actually get pissed if these articles get deleted, after all that hard work. - Bobet 02:39, 6 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Don't you think before delete articles, you should notify the one who wrote it first? Don't you think you should delete an article without any discussions? Well, that article is a stub and very low-quality, but you should not make a speedy deletion without notify the writer or make any discussions. Someone added Template:nn-bio tags on it, but the one added the tag who even has no his/her own user page! So you would better undelete that article and if possible and never make speedy deletion like that. Thanks. — Yaohua2000 21:37, 13 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Why did you delete my biography? edit

Hi there. Please let me know why you deleted my biography on Dec 10th. Thanks. Andrew Crookall. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.6.118.145 (talkcontribs)

(Removed email address) Read WP:MUSIC and WP:BIO. It was speedily deleted for being a biography that did not meet notability requirements. If you are certain that you meet the notability criteria as set out on the two preceding links, you are welcome to rewrite the article, ensuring that the content of the article addresses those notability criteria. I should point out that it is a serious faux pas to write about yourself. It is called vanity. Furthermore, Wikipedia is not a place to advertise your services. Do not write your email address on any article pages, and I suggest that you do not do so on any talk pages (in particular, not on mine; I will not reply via email). Enochlau 13:56, 18 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

I had no idea that such pompous, arrogant people were actually given editorial rights. Thank you for letting me know that Wikipedia is something with which I do not want to be connected. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.6.118.145 (talkcontribs)

And I had no idea that there were so many people with inflated opinions of themselves who want to write about themselves. My previous response above was quite neutral and presented the facts as they are. If you cannot accept them, that is not my problem. Enochlau 14:21, 18 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

I do not have an inflated opinion of myself. The article I wrote was entirely factual. I have requested that all information and all contributions I have made to any site connected with Wikipedia be removed. I hope that will be done as soon as possible. I do not wish to be connected with such small minded thinking. Andrew Crookall.

Selective high schools edit

Newtown High School of the Performing Arts is a selective high school, admitting out-of-area students on the basis of merit in dance, drama and music streams. If you don't believe the people who wrote the article in Wikipedia, check the school's page at the DET website: "The school auditions students in dance, drama and music from all of New South Wales for intakes in Year 7 and 11 each year as well as taking in-area students." Enochlau, you are 100% correct in that Newtown High School of the Performing Arts is not a selective high school, where, in New South Wales, entry into a "selective high school" is based on an academic examination sat by Year 6 students towards the end of the year.
Now I'm sure there are many schools across the state that have some sort "entry criteria", academically or otherwise. For instance, Westfields Sports High School in Fairfield, requires students to have excelled in a sport, Northmead High School, Newtown High School and others requires students to have excelled in dramatic arts, I even had to sit an examination for entry in Barker College in Year 3, and I'm sure other Non-Governments schools do the same, but these schools are not selective schools. Only those deemed by the New South Wales Department of Education and Training are considered so. Regards -- Ianblair23 (talk) 02:10, 20 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Hi Enoch. I have responded to the discussion at Talk:Newtown High School of the Performing Arts, although most of what I had to say was about the list of selective high schools. Some Advice Please edit

Hi there. I want to get some of your advice about the ongoing discussion on the Kung hei fat choi article. I am not sure if I am losing my WP:COOL but I am getting a bit frustrated about the situation on that article. I believe that I have been both courteous to other users and reasonable in accomodating sensible suggestions. But lately I feel a bit perscuted and accused of both callous disregarding attitude and filibusting the argument (which I am particularly annoyed about since I really would like to bring this to a resolution than letting it drag on). Have I been out of line? Am I just too sensitive?

Since you are a admin, I would appreciate some mentoring words on how to approach this situation. Thanks. novacatz 18:11, 20 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

I just wanted to know why you deleted the "Annabelle Hegedus" article from Wikipedia? She's a famous local author here in Pittsburgh and donates a lot of her time to the community. I realize not many people may have heard of her, but it's a shame that this was deleted.

It was deleted as per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Annabelle Hegedus. If you would like to recreate the article, you are welcome to do so, but please ensure that concerns raised in the linked discussion are met. enochlau (talk) 22:23, 20 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hello, can you give me some advice regarding this discussion? I simply want to change Creative and performing arts high schools in New South Wales to List of creative and performing arts high schools in New South Wales as it is a list and to make it more uniform with List of selective high schools in New South Wales and List of schools in New South Wales. However, we can't manage to agree. Some third party advice would be helpful. Thank you. I know this whole this is taking a lot of discussion and your time -- Chanlord 23:15, 20 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Frankly I can't manage to follow closely with what is (and has been) going on.. Would it be more desirable to go straight onto RFAr, particularly for SchmuckyTheCat's "boldness"? It's not the first time he moved an article, and made a minor edit to the original title to make the move cannot be reverted. — Instantnood 19:33, 21 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the efforts. Since I myself is also on probation, I believe it's better for me to avoid making any comment at the RfC unless it's neccessary to do so. I'm afraid I cannot manage to follow closely, but do keep me informed and I'm most willing to provide any sort of assistance, as long as time allows. — Instantnood 19:20, 22 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Just a bit of opinion.. should the RfC be titled "Huaiwei and SchmuckyTheCat"?

FYI, the pages that have been disputed include, but not limited to, National pastime (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), Electronic Road Pricing (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), List of road-rail bridges (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), National dish (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), List of IMAX venues (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), URA (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), Thomson Road (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views).. all ended up with Huaiwei's and SchmuckyTheCat's POV prevails, thanks to their insistance. There has also been disagreements, that involve user:Alanmak, over articles such as Lo mai kai (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), Hong Kong-style western cuisine (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), Chinese sausage (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), Grass jelly (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)... — Instantnood 19:30, 22 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

I understand that's the constraint of RfC, but I strongly believe it's much better to deal with the whole issue in one go. It's meaningless to launch separate cases for different people who're having similar problem. — Instantnood 20:49, 23 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hi Enoch, just been doing my regular patrol over the HK pages I look after. I noticed you closed the MTR RM debate (rightly so). Then our usual suspect (who really does appear to enjoy this) reverted your change.

Fortune Lounge Group edit

Hi. I thought that I would drop you a line to note that the Fortune Lounge Group article has been re-created, after a decision by Deletion Review that it is a notable article worthy of inclusion, so long as it is not advertising. Please can you have a look at the article to see if you think that it is well written. I tried my best with this, and even went so far as to include details of the spamming controversy (which puts them in a bad light). If you feel that it is not worthy of the encyclopaedia then please feel free to put an AFD tag on it, however as it is not the same content please note that it is not a candidate for speedy deletion. I am writing to you as you were the closing admin in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fortune Lounge Group and I did not want you to be confused and mistakingly speedy delete it. Zordrac (talk) Wishy Washy Darwikinian Eventualist 07:54, 22 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hi Actually the only reason why I tried to delete the information under the spam section of the article as it is inaccurate and providing time-sensitive false information is neither in the best interests of the wiki or our page.

When Zordrac created this new article, some of his links were incorrect and that has led us to believe that his keywords research for our site came up with a www.fortuneloungegroup.com web address that does not in fact exist.

www.online-casinos.com is under the maintenance of Jan Balslev, and the site is part of the InterCasino/Casino Tropaz online operators. I do not know where they got their information from or what game they're trying to play at, but their article is unsubstantiated and alleged rumor by the look of things.

We're not looking to cause a stir, but do not want this wiki page to be the start of a smear campaign either as it does add significant encyclopedic and research value to this entry . Apologies for givng you the impression that we were trying to cover up some negative press, but we are actually about transparency and like to be held accountable for our decisions.

Thanks goes to Zordrac for helping us to have an entry and we do not expect any ownership over his created page. User:Fortunelounge

Huaiwei again edit

Huaiwei and Alanmak are trying to fragmentise Hong Kong Special Administrative Region into Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Would it be nice to break PRC into People's Republic of China in other sense?! -- Jerry Crimson Mann 13:42, 23 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

If you may get your facts right, you guys where fighting over something as trival as whether the PRC should be linked, before spilling over to whether the SAR should be linked. I could not care less over this until when individuals like yourself suddenly came in and started reverting with lame excuses, and that was when I started wondering if the same old "HK democratic movement" is going full blast again, compelling me to join in the fray just a few moments ago. Am I the main player in this dispute, as your statement appears to portray? Why do you not bring this to the attention of third party admins, instead of informing an admin known to advance your collective interests? Are you showing me, that Enoch is elected to be an admin in other to advance HK's interests instead of that of wikipedia?--Huaiwei 14:20, 23 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
lol This time you're thinking too much and jumping many many steps over with puny evidences. What did I show you? I know very very few admins here, and Enochlau is one of the admins I know. He seems to be quite clever in handing stool-stirring disputes as in the discussion of KHFC. Of course you're not the main player; you're too powerless to be 'un. -- Jerry Crimson Mann 14:33, 23 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Hmmm...I agree with Huaiwei that this is very trivial. It should be Hong Kong Special Administrative Region but of course it won't be nice to break PRC into People's Republic of China. Linking it to Special Administrative Region is much better than just Hong Kong alone. I think this makes no sense of making such a complaint as an outsider here. Agreed, I think these need a third party admin who has a neutral comment. It is alright to frangmentise it, as I am an outsider in this, I shall not interfere too much here. I don't see any wrong in splitting Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, as the article is still related to Hong Kong. I suggest trivial matters shouldn't become a heated discussion, and just leave it the way as it is. Peace is really needed here, please stop complaining about each other. Wikipedia is not a battlefield since we are one whole community. Things can be settled out calmly and nicely. Let's don't make a fuss out here. It is very disruptive to readers and editors surfing Wikipedia, as there is a confusion of facts. I think using the word powerless is more like a personal attack.
User:Mailer diablo and User:Miborovsky are some admins that I know of. They are usually not in heated discussions and play a neutral part in discussions like this. Maybe we should ask their opinion. --Terence Ong Talk 14:40, 23 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
I'm being a neutral party here and this is from my POV. I think what this is too trivial to complain of. If what I said offends anyone, I apologise. --Terence Ong Talk 14:42, 23 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

The personal attack Terence mentions is in itself illogical, lending weight to what appears to be a conscious attempt to insult. If I am "not powerful" enough to be the main player, then mind explaining why my name appears in the title of this section? You appear to be reporting about the antics of two people, yet only my name appears, and you listed my name first. Coincidence? Or I suppose my username is a brandname that elicits the most spectacular "anti-stool-stirring" efforts from this admin? So based on that, arent I rather "powerful" so to speak? :D Anyway based on what is happening now, I am left wondering if the way the GXFC issue is being handled is going to be something he will be particularly proud of. Oh, and you have yet to explain what "stool-stirring" is, and this is the second time I asked.--Huaiwei 14:48, 23 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
See, is that a personal attack? I like peace, and do peace only when peace can be implemented. I never got furious like this, but I'm really fed up with the whole scheme og thing. -- Jerry Crimson Mann 14:55, 23 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Peaceful folks dont do revert wars, dont insist on enforcing his POV without using the talkpages once, dont drop messages in people's talkpages to get the entire community to back them up and attack his opponents, dont drop messages in their opponents' talkpages accusing them of wikipolicy violations they are not gulty of, and dont attempt to insult them via less than friendly postings. Your actions and your words dont match.--Huaiwei 15:02, 23 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
First, some folks always like to spend a lot of time and draw the attention of all folks in Wikipedia to argue about some minor, trivial stuffs, and even want to initiate a revert war. That is unnecessary. Second, I wonder the motive for calling names in the administrator's page. Is someone trying to snitch, or discredit someone to the administrator? (I feel that the title and the first line of Jerry's post sounds like snitching, and I am pretty offended.) Third, I think Jerry should have an introspection on his attitude. How can he leave these kind of messages in someone's discussion page? ... "Stop it. The google test has shown my point of view." (Insisting his own point, don't allow other people to express their points), "More to add, you're rather stubborn, sad to say." (Is that provoking?) I don't want to involve in any conflict. I hope the dispute can be solved in a peaceful manner. -- Alanmak 15:24, 23 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Revert wars? I thought I did a little more elaboration for each time. What kinda attack? You mean discuss? Well, what the problem of asking for consultation? A wikirule has forbidden the act, I just wanna know? I'll recur my friendliness after the reign of anger.
HW, you left a point: peaceful folks don't follow others' moves by scrutinising their contribution every now and then. Nevertheless, I think we should stop here as further discussion would be counterproductive. Let's give every of us a cooling-down period. Thank you. -- Jerry Crimson Mann 15:06, 23 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
A little more elaboration for each time? Explain this line. What attack has just become a discussion, if you may provide links for it? Asking for consultation, when all of them appears in specific individual's talkpages well known for being involved in certain disagreements? No wikipolicy forbids you from doing so. Your own claims that you are "peaceful" contradicts it. Saying you will revert to your usual friendliness is no excuse for your misbehavior here. The law dosent show mercy to folks who murder only when they are angry too (and convict those who arent angry), unless you are telling me you live in a society which does?
While we are at it, mind explaining your self-revert [3]?
Oh and as for that last para, mind explaining what "you left a point" mean, and its application to this discussion?--Huaiwei 15:15, 23 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

My reply to this very long-winded discussion (sorry for the late and potentially grumpy reply, I have a horrible head-ache):

 • Try not to do the argument on my talk page. The best place to have a discussion is the talk page of the actual page in question, so it's open to public scrutiny. Just send me a link to where the discussion is happening if you want me to look at it.
 • It would be very nice if the person raising the complaint in future actually links to the page in question so I actually know what you are talking about? I only found out it was Central and Western District halfway down the discussion when Huaiwei provided a diff.
 • Because it's a content dispute that doesn't really involve Wikipedia policy, calling in an administrator, neutral or otherwise, isn't going to resolve the issue (unless of course someone violates WP:3RR).
 • I will reply on the article's talk page about this issue.

Cheers. enochlau (talk) 21:22, 23 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Capitalisation edit

The reason why I don't think it has to be capitalised was because it's not part of its name. Nobody writes " Norway is a Kingdom. " or " Mayotte is a Collectivité d'Outre-mer of France ", but " Norway is a kingdom. " or " Mayotte is a collectivité d'outre-mer of France " (related edit summaries [7]). — Instantnood 08:30, 26 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

I'm curious to know what makes special administrative region so special that it has to be capitalised. Collectivité d'outre-mer is specific to France, so as autonomous community to Spain, autonomous oblast to Russia, eastern Europe and former Soviet republics. I don't understand why the title of that article is capitalised in the first place, except that there are only two of them, both under the same sovereign state. — Instantnood 08:52, 26 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
