Architecture of Turkey edit

Hello Elekhh. I hope you are doing fine. I was wondering if I could consult on Architecture of Turkey since you are familiar with this discussion. I prepared Architecture of Turkey article in Turkish and it was recently elected as a featured article in Turkish Wikipedia. I want to create the same article in English as well. Do you think it is ok if I name the article Architecture of Turkey? Should I create the article then discuss the name or should I do it before? Thanks in advance. Mimar77 (talk) 22:49, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello Mimar77, that's great to hear! You don't need to be concerned at all about replacing the current redirect Architecture of Turkey with your article, it is the right title, and if anybody would disagree that could be discussed later. I imagine it would cover the period Culture of Turkey#Republic of Turkey period (since 1923). If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask. Hope to see your English version soon. Cheers, --Elekhh (talk) 11:13, 20 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much for your response, it was helpful. By the way I created Architecture of Turkey article. It is an ongoing process but for now the article seems to have enough information. I hope in time others will come and improve the contents of the article. Thanks again. Mimar77 (talk) 19:57, 22 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
That's an excellent start! Would be great to have at least a one paragraph lead, something along the lines of the third para in the Turkish version (as far I can understand from google translate) "Türkiye'deki mimarlık, ilk dönemlerinde Osmanlı mimarisinden oldukça etkilendi. Özellikle 1920'li....". Would be worth considering a DYK nomination as well. --Elekhh (talk) 21:51, 23 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Done. Do you mind reviewing the article when you get a chance? Most of the article was reviewed by another user whose first language is English but I just added the introduction part. Therefore I'd appreciate it if you could take a look when you have time. Thank you very much. Mimar77 (talk) 20:01, 25 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! I changed a bit the lead to make it more compact. Also nominated it for DYK at Template:Did you know nominations/Architecture of Turkey. It was a last minute nomination, but can be improved until reviewed. If you wish to suggest an alternative hook, please feel free to add it to the nomination page. --Elekhh (talk) 21:28, 25 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again. Mimar77 (talk) 22:39, 25 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hope we might intersect at articles about architecture, arts and culture. --Elekhh (talk) 08:53, 21 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Community input required: lowering delist bar at FPC edit

You are receiving this because of your current or past association with the Featured Pictures project. Following on from several cases where closers did not observe the prescribed minimum votes required for a delisting, there is now a motion to entirely dismiss the requirement for a minimum. Please participate in the discussion as wide-ranging changes may arise. Papa Lima Whiskey 2 (talk) 13:29, 24 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Danish sculpture edit

A couple of days ago, I put up a preliminary version of a top-down article on Danish sculpture which has not received much attention up to now. I must say that the level of interest has been pretty low for a country boasting one of the world's leading artists in the field: Bertel Thorvaldsen. Do you think it would help to submit it for DYK? That might trigger a few useful reactions as I continue to work on more recent developments. It could run: "...that while Bertel Thorvaldsen later became a leading international figure, Danish sculpture was in fact introduced by a Frenchman, Jacques Saly, in 1752." Interested? - Ipigott (talk) 11:12, 25 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Indeed WikiProject Sculpture seems to be inactive, although one editor joined last week. Nice work, and am happy to nominate. I am only unsure about the last part of the hook which is slightly different from the article ("as a nationally recognized art form"), and can't find the referencing confirming the "introduced"/"traced back" which will be required at DYK. If Danish art "goes back thousands of years" than why is medieval sculpture in Denmark not considered Danish? --Elekhh (talk) 20:09, 25 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Good question. Most of the sculpture before Saly was created by foreigners and often imported. Even Saly himself was brought to Denmark on assignment. One of the main reasons he is notable is that he became the first influential director of the Royal Danish Academy of Art a few months after it was founded and began training Danes in the art of sculpture. By all means change the hook. I've included a further reference at the end of the lead (the book I have been using as a basis for the article) but it is not on-line. I can try to find further references if you need them but unfortunately there is no general overview online. There is a series of articles beginning with this (see in particular Antikkens København – den nyantikke indretning) but no mention of Saly although he is mentioned here. So I'll leave it to you. Thanks once again for your help. - Ipigott (talk) 11:42, 26 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I messed around a bit with the photos, and moved that navbox to the bottom as I felt it consumed too much top space for directing readers away to other articles. If you don't like it pls feel free to revert. DYK nom is at Template:Did you know nominations/Danish sculpture with the hook you suggested as alt. Feel free to amend as you think appropriate. --Elekhh (talk) 20:54, 26 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
You will be pleased to hear I have added a section at the beginning of the article referring to some of the medieval treasures as well as to the "foreign" work which followed. There are also a number of additional references for those who want to look into things more closely. Thanks once again for your help. I see the article is already receiving more attention. - Ipigott (talk) 13:16, 30 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Help with rapid deletion edit

I was a bit surprised to see that Emily Williams (architect) is up for rapid deletion. Seems to me she made an important contribution to women's architecture in California but I would like your opinion on this. I don't want to waste time on covering other red-linked Americans on the List of female architects if they are not worthwhile. - Ipigott (talk) 18:26, 5 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Seems that is now resolved. With that reference anyway I don't think should have been speedy but rather a regular DR. I would add to the lead that she mostly designed houses, one of which is currently heritage listed. It looks like a very modest building from the outside though. Probably notability is related to local history here. Otherwise, since US is far better covered than any other country, is probably not first priority in order to reduce wikibias. --ELEKHHT 23:30, 5 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Some better photos of Williams' work can be seen here. Like other women architects of her day, Williams seems to have contributed mainly by designing interiors so as to reduce the amount of housework required. I should make this clearer in the article. Most of the other 40 or so articles I have written about female architects are indeed about non-Americans. Shortly I hope to write a top-down article on Women in architecture along the lines of Women in medicine. This should present a better general perspective of their history and current prospects. Thanks once again for your help and advice. - Ipigott (talk) 08:03, 6 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
That sounds great. "Women in architecture" is a substantial topic! --ELEKHHT 10:07, 6 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Women architects edit

Glad to see that Esther Hill was at the top of one of the DYK sections today. Another very enterprising young woman I have just come across is Anna Heringer who perhaps also deserves a DYK. It could go: "...that the young German architect Anna Heringer has contributed significantly to sustainable architecture, building hand-made schools (pictured) in Bangladesh and Morocco with local craftsmen and materials?" (There are a couple of photos in the article.) Maybe the buildings themselves also deserve separate articles? - Ipigott (talk) 10:06, 8 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Nice one! Nomination is here. I shortened the hook as it has to be below 200 characters and changed some of the wikilinks. There is a bit of queue as usual, but should go through this month. The METI I would say definitely would deserve an article as the Aga Khan Award is quite prestigious. A pity she hasn't released the design under a CC license, which is what the Open Architecture Network is advocating for, but the documentation provided is quite comprehensive. --ELEKHHT 01:03, 9 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your improvements. There's still plenty of time to get it up by the end of March. I'll see what I can do about writing an article on the METI but my stack of things to do seems to be steadily increasing. - Ipigott (talk) 09:29, 9 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

I think the number of characters in the hook has been miscalculated but feel free to shorten it if necessary. I have tried to tone down the so-called "advertorial" style but do not want to depart too far from the source material. Please let me know if you think it is OK now. - Ipigott (talk) 14:52, 11 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Wind power article / edit warning. edit

Hi,

recently you gave me an edit warning over the article on wind_power, which I feel is biased. Since I edited this article, someone else has wrote in the talk page that they do agree with me. I don't know who they are, as their user name was removed when user Aflafla1 decided to strike out their comments, as he/she says the article is OK. So not only does my attempt to put the POV tag fail, but if someone agrees with me, their comments give stuck out! Would you not accept that the neutrality of the article is disputed?

This article currently has a B-rating. What would be the proceedure to try to get that changed? Would the people making the decisions on that be the current editors - if so, it would be a fruitless exercise to try, as it's clear there are a lot of pro-wind people editing that page, who would challenge strongly any attempt to get the quality rating changed. Drkirkby (talk) 14:17, 20 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello Drkirkby. I think you are misunderstanding something, as it was Aflafla1 who stroke out his/her own previous comment, so there was no attempt to suppress anyone or anything. The article quality rating can be changed by any editor following the assessment criteria. Probably in this case would be safe to discuss it first. These issues are best discussed at Talk:Wind power. If you think the spectrum of views expressed there is limited, you can invite other editors from relevant WikiProjects to provide further input. In any case, I see now you have the help of Ipigott a very experienced editor, so IMO there are good prospects for seeing the article improved. Please remember that best way forward is to address the issues, instead of accusing other editors of perceived bias or COI. --ELEKHHT 22:24, 20 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your kind remarks, Elekhh, but I see my attempts at collaboration have been "overruuled". Too bad. A rather more objective picture of wind power would have been a considerable improvement. So now back to culture again! - Ipigott (talk) 21:17, 21 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Sorry to bother you about wind again, Elekhh, but the latest news from the UK confirms some of my earlier concerns. There has indeed been strong opposition to onshore wind with complaints from over 100 MPs. It really looks to me as if the wind power article should reflect these concerns but I realize that additions along these lines are repeatedly removed on a series of questionable explanations. Maybe you could look at my recent additions to the talk page. I would also be interested to hear your views on the issue as you usually act in a completely unbiased way. - Ipigott (talk) 16:58, 15 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Elekhh, would you mind deleting the misleading title "Church of São Mateus (Calheta)". The article started as Church of São Mateus da Calheta and was mistakenly moved to Church of São Mateus (Calheta) by Zeorymer who has now moved it back. However as the church in Calheta is actually Santa Catarina and São Mateus is on another island in the Azores, the Church of São Mateus (Calheta) (which is still active) should be removed. What is architecture, what is art? edit

Well I don't really expect a philosophical 7 pages essay (not that I wouldn't appreciate it, though) but here goes: In Denmark, photographs of sculptures in the public realm that are still protected by copyrights are only allowed if they qualify as freedom of panorama. It is of course very relevant that some peiple makes an effort to keep commons free of copyright infringements but I have even experienced that someone challanged an image based on the fast that the sculptire stood on a plinth created by an architect who hadn't been dead for 70 years while the artist had. As I see it, a plinth is not a work of art but a piece of architecture/design. It is is not (just) there to look good but serves a purpose. Just as the case is for buildings, walls, benches, bowls and all sorts of other stuff. Sure they can be very ornate, by all means, also part of the decorative appeal of the combined works, but that goes for all the above as well - many modern design objects are certainly more there for their looks than their practical use - but that still doesn't make them works of art protected as such. A plinth is there to put stuff on them, just like some fancy fruit bowl is there to put fruit in it even if the fruit would be better of somewhere else. Furthermore, in cases where these plinths are in fact destinctive-looking and the author is seperately credited, my next argument would be that they are notable in there own right and thus a legitimate subject for phptpgraphic documentation – which in turn makes the associated work of art legitimate under freedom of panorama. I would of course not use this reasoning in cases where the sculpture stands on a plain granite block but when it comes to early 20th century sculptury in the public realm in Denmark, it is rather the rule than the exception that they are placed on plinths designed by seperately credited and often leading architects. In support of my view, the architect is in such cases systematically credited in various databases of public art (as creator of the plinth) and literature such as the Danish biographical Weilbach encyclopedia which covers both architects and artists and list them under works. They are also included in the relevant architects' biographies on Danish wikiepdia. To me that is a clear indication of notability.

I therefore wonder if Wikipedia has a stand on this or could/should get one? It would make it a lot easier than to take the discussion again and again with specific images. And it would avoid wasting other people's time if the conclusion is that the reasoning is not valid. Any chance that you have an opinion in this= Now it ended up being my question that was 7 pages long, sorry about that.:)Ramblersen (talk) 20:04, 2 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ramblersen, the problem is that Commons does not operate in Wikipedia's educational interest, neither does it follow opinion or consensus formed here. So regardless of what we think to be reasonable it is the committed wikilawyers' interpretations on Commons which determines whether a file is kept or not. The process is random and decisions are inconsistent. The status quo is to consider paranoia as "reasonable", and thus delete everything which any user has "doubts" about, without any requirement to follow a common sense investigation on the matter. For these reasons and because of lack of collaboration in addressing these issues, I mostly have withdrawn from participation there.
Regarding the specific case you describe, I think the general consensus among Commons-wikilawyers is that any building or part of it designed by an architect is protected by copyright. I've seen images of standard steps or pavement deleted!. In the same time images of Corbu's famous Villa La Roche have been kept as "lacking originality" :). So the way forward in such cases could be (1) defend the image on basis of de minimis or "lack of originality" ; (2) if deleted, upload your image on en.Wiki with the whole set of disclaimers like at File:VillaSavoye.jpg (this applies to architecture only, can't do it with sculptures). Other Wikis like the German Wiki allow uploading your images regardless of FOP in foreign countries (example). (3) Lobby for a new media repository "Commons Educational" which would allow images with non-commercial restriction, so that Wikipedias can illustrate 20th century art and architecture. --ELEKHHT 21:34, 2 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your answer and yes I guess I should have asked you on the wikipedia commons talk page but I just tend to forget about the difference, probably in denial here since all the red links from deleted files dreate such a bad atmosphere on mine.:) There is no problem when it comes to buildings in Denmark since the law explicitly exclude them from copyright protection so my thoughts regarded the sculptures. What I wondered was if seeing the plinth as a notable, architectural work could be used as, well an excuse, for uploading images of protected sculptures in some cases. But based on your answer - which very well fits my own experiences there - I guess it would be pretty optimistic to that such an argumentation would go through. I guess I will just have to be patient and wait for the artists to have been dead for a really long time, good thing some of them died young!.)Ramblersen (talk) 23:04, 2 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
Ah yes, that would be a rather hopeless case. If there is an article on the German wiki where it would fit, you can upload it there right now, rather than "being patient" half a century :) If you need help let me know. Another, laborious way, is to contact the heirs of the artist and ask for permission. --ELEKHHT 23:33, 2 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

List of Danish architects edit

Hello Elekhh. I think you may be able to shed some useful light on a discussion that is taking place in connection with the red links which have recently been added to this list. Rather than repeat all the background, I suggest you look at User talk:Sionk, User talk:Ipigott and Talk:List of Danish architects. Key questions appear to be whether red links should be maintained in such lists without references, whether it is advisable to strive to cover all 650 Danish architects from the Danish wiki with stubs in English (and possibly repeating the approach for other countries/languages), or whether it would be more productive to concentrate efforts in the first instance on developing biographies of the more prominent or notable individuals in the light of coverage in the Danish wikipedia and other sources. --Ipigott (talk) 16:26, 7 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Bjarke Ingels and photo edit

At your suggestion, I've been doing quite a bit of work on Ingels and his projects. Thanks for going through 8 House. Maybe it's material for a DYK? The real reason I'm writing, though, is that Dr. Blofeld very sensibly cropped the photo of Ingels for the box in the Bjarke Ingels article. However the image in the box is a warped uncropped verson. Can you help or will it be necessary to recrop and use a new file name? --Ipigott (talk) 07:35, 12 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

I think it might be just a temporary cache issue, by me it appears right. The crop is good, probably don't need a separate uncroped version. Great to see the new wave of improvements to Danish architecture articles! Made a quick DYK nomination, but as I am not very active these days, would be good if you can also keep an eye on that page. --ELEKHHT 07:59, 12 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. It was indeed a cache problem on my machine. Stupid of me not to think of it myself. --Ipigott (talk) 11:12, 12 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

I did say it would be the server delay/cache thing. Sometimes it takes half a week!..♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:52, 12 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • @Elekhh: As they seem to prefer the "green roof" award for the DYK, pehaps it would be better to use another image, e.g. File:Bjarke Ingels Group - 8 House.jpg. However I don't know how to handle the procedure. Up to you. --Ipigott (talk) 17:49, 15 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Blackford County Courthouse edit

Thank you for your review of Blackford County Courthouse. My town will get hit by a hurricane in the the next 24 to 36 hours, and we are expected to lose power. (Last hurricane, we lost power for 5 days.). Your comments are appreciated, and I will work to address them—but it may take a week or two.TwoScars (talk) 21:21, 28 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello Elekhh—thanks again for reviewing Blackford County Courthouse. We will lose power tonight, and much of the region is shut down already. I believe I have addressed most of your concerns/suggestions already. I will not be able to convert the diagram to a jpg file until public transportation is restored and businesses reopen. I have not been able to figure out how to alter the NRHP template infobox, and noticed that most of the FA and GA related to NRHP use the template with the pushpins and state maps. I think it would be great to replace the state map with the county map (currently commented out), but that is beyond my ability.TwoScars (talk) 18:05, 29 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi TwoScars, and thanks for the excellent improvements. I managed to change the map in the infobox. Sorry I just noticed a potential copyright issue with one of the images, as indicated on the review page, but otherwise all looks ok. Hope the monster storm passed without too much damage, and you'll come back to editing soon. --ELEKHHT 04:58, 30 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Portal:Society nominated as Featured Portal candidate edit

I've nominated Portal:Society for featured portal candidacy, discussion is at Wikipedia:Featured portal candidates/Portal:Society.

Note: I'm notifying you because previously commented at the featured portal candidacy discussion for Portal:Arts at Wikipedia:Featured portal candidates/Portal:Arts, and it'd be nice to have a relatively more prompt resolution on this particular one as it's also part of the Main Page Featured Portal drive.

Thank you for your time, — Cirt (talk) 06:33, 13 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia
Featured portal candidates/Portal:Society

I've responded at Wikipedia:Featured portal candidates/Portal:Society, I could really use some help with this one, if you wanted to be more specific about which entries to swap out, and what to include instead, etc. Also if you wanted to help pitch in and do some of that legwork yourself as well, especially seeing as how this one is part of the Wikipedia:Featured portal candidates/Main Page Featured Portal drive, I'd really appreciate it, — Cirt (talk) 17:22, 13 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

A quick update, I'm still in the process of addressing concerns, but as a stopgap for now, I've removed and swapped out most of the issues complained about. Pending still ongoing process of selecting various new entries, instead. :) — Cirt (talk) 18:41, 13 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I've gone ahead and added more specific responses at Wikipedia:Featured portal candidates/Portal:Society, noting the changes I've made to try to address your helpful suggestions, hopefully to your satisfaction. :) I hope you're doing well, — Cirt (talk) 19:19, 13 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the updates. I will have a look as I get time, which is limited at the moment, and respond at the FPORTC page. --ELEKHHT 23:45, 13 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Your 4th set of comments, and response

Please see my response to your 4th set of comments, at Wikipedia:Featured portal candidates/Portal:Society.

Elekhh, I'm beginning to get a bit confused and mixed signals, particularly as I had selected Postage stamps of Ireland not by my own decision but purely because I had found it displayed at Wikipedia:Featured articles under the subsection titled, Culture and society.

Thank you again for your helpful input and I hope you are seeing that I am doing my best to be responsive to all of your specific suggestions about how to improve the portal further. — Cirt (talk) 19:09, 29 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

FYI, see more specific subsection link at Wikipedia:Featured_articles#Culture_and_society. Thank you, — Cirt (talk) 19:11, 29 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

No worries about the comments moving, good idea, just wanted to point out my original rationale and how and why I came by those article selections, is all. :) I hoep you're doing well, — Cirt (talk) 00:53, 30 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Sure, no worries. I think at this stage it would be good to have other opinions as well. I will be happy to reconsider mine as the review progresses. --ELEKHHT 02:47, 30 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Okay that's a good idea ... um ... any ideas on how to get additional opinions? :P — Cirt (talk) 03:22, 30 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

H. T. Cadbury-Brown edit

Hi Elekhh, after a long absence I've written an article about the modernist H. T. Cadbury-Brown. If you had a chance to read it through and rate it I would appreciate it! Thanks. Kenchikuben (talk) 20:53, 13 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Kenchikuben, great to see you back! The article looks quite comprehensive and detailed, so re-rated accordingly. I am not sure if "Marriage" needs to be a separate section, maybe it could be part of a general biography section. Would also be good to have more illustrations. Probably this image could be uploaded as fair use. Happy editing! --ELEKHHT 23:40, 13 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Elekhh. I'll take a look at the Marriage section and incorporate it into the main body of the article. I read the "fair use" info through but I must admit that I feel uncomfortable using it for the photo concerned as it is attributed to a photographer who seems to make his livelihood from shooting portraits. I am trying to get more photos of C-B's work instead. Kenchikuben (talk) 13:43, 19 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Reviewing List of beaches in Indonesia edit

Hi Elekhh, it's been quiet a while. I wonder if you have times to review the article List of beaches in Indonesia. Recently I've nominated the article for DYK, but there are many grammatical errors and bad citations. I've improved the article since I received the last review, but I'm still not sure with the grammars in the article (my weakness). Once again, if you have time, could you review the grammatical errors in the article as well as possible blog-like citations in the article that maybe should be removed? Any kind of edit will be greatly appreciated :) --Rochelimit (talk) 07:49, 2 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hey, good to see you working on big topics! I did a quick copy-edit, so the prose should be fine now. Some of the remaining issues:
  • the sentence "Indonesia has been listed as one of 100 best surfing locations in the world" is not very convincing, as there are less than 200 countries in the world, some of which are landlocked. What is probably meant is that 'Some of the top 100 surfing locations are in Indonesia', but that again does not sound very remarkable and on what criteria is that toplist based? I would either give an example of the most popular surfing beach(es) or remove this part.
  • "the most notable beaches of Aceh are located to the northern tip" - most notable for what, tourism?
  • "some of the northern beaches contain concrete sea bunkers" needs inline citation
  • "The water of Jakarta Bay is relatively polluted..." needs citation.
  • Sources which are problematic either for WP:RS or WP:NPOV are : Tripadvisor, Unikom blog, Tourism central. Also travel guides are not fully reliable, particularly when promoting destinations as top x, or so. These have to be judged on a case by case basis. A range of opinions are here.
  • This is not a DYK issue but I wonder if the best way to organize the list is by provinces. From administrative perspective this is logical, but in terms of geography, culture and tourism not necessarily. I wonder if you came across any publications which would use different criteria. I would imagine that many readers wouldn't be familiar with the Indonesian provinces, and that geographically and culturally the islands might be an easier structuring criteria.
  • An area of ambiguity is whether this is meant to be a list, or an article. Much of the prose is explanatory and goes beyond what is usually in a list (see List of beaches in Hawaii for example) whereas this looks more like an article (ex. Beaches in Chicago). If you decide you want it to be an article, than it also should be renamed, and the beaches enumerated in a sentence rather than bullet-points.
Hope all this helps bring the DYK forward. Happy to help as the article progresses. --ELEKHHT 12:27, 2 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi Elekhh, thanks for your quick help. I'll give you my opinion about some of your comments tomorrow! It's 11 PM where I am right now and tomorrow is Monday, so you know.. need my beauty sleep to face the crazy Monday. Once again thanks! :)--Rochelimit (talk) 15:46, 2 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Architecture Question edit

I just had a question if all articles which are structures fall under WP:WikiProject Architecture. For example, a canal such as Karakum Canal or a building such as Brunei Museum. Do they fall under the category? I just saw you are very active in the project, so I asked you. --Ankit MaityTalkContribs 12:21, 3 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

No, only structures which are notable as architecture are in the scope of WikiProject Architecture. Canals, dams, dikes, etc. are usually designed by engineers, so might fall within the scope of WP:WikiProject Civil engineering. Cultural buildings like the Brunei Museum usually are notable for their architecture. Judging by this not very good picture Brunei Museum would be in scope although of local importance only. There is a list of related wikiprojects you can have a look at before tagging articles when unsure. You can also ask at the wikiproject talk page, as that is followed by many editors (I am not always as active as in the past days) --ELEKHHT 21:33, 3 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the awesomely descriptive reply.   --Ankit MaityTalkContribs 13:34, 4 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • I've been posting things on Wikiproject talk pages for years, hoping someone would add to various articles. Oscar Niemeyer edit

New Edits

I was adding notable late 20th century and 21st century projects from the List of Niemeyer's Works (see "See Also" at bottom of article). They are linked on that list but I did not know how to link them on the main article. --American in Brazil-- — Preceding unsigned comment added by 177.43.87.117 (talk) 23:03, 6 December 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 177.43.87.117 (talk)

Ana is the Portuguese spelling. Anna is the English spelling. Presumably, her name was spelled Ana because she was Brazilian. I am an American living in Brazil; my wife is Brazilian, and my sister-in-law's name is spelled Ana. Although the article is in English, the way she spelled her name would appear to be proper and, as noted, Ana is the correct Portuguese spelling.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 177.43.87.117 (talkcontribs) 9 December 2012‎

Hand-coding edit

Hey all :).

I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).

You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo here. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at okeyes wikimedia.org and I'll set you up with an account :).

If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at 23:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office connect. Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:04, 14 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Featured portal candidates/Bollywood edit

Hi Elekhh, thanks for commenting at the nomination page. Is your only concern is that the portal doesn't have any featured pictures? As far as I know, there is none exist at this moment related to the subject. Even the parent portal P:FILM has a very few such pictures, others are just of same quality. If you find any substandard images then please mention them, I'll try to find the better replacements. — Bill william comptonTalk 05:49, 27 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello again, after searching some 1,500 files, I have replaced most substandard ones with their best possible alternatives. Would you please tell me what makes images "aesthetically pleasing"? It will help me to narrow down my search. — Bill william comptonTalk 06:46, 31 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
