Original – The Franz Josef Glacier in the Southern Alps of New Zealand, is part of the Westland Tai Poutini National Park. The glacier exhibits a cyclic pattern of advance and retreat. By mid-2010 its latest cycle of advance had ended and is currently in a state of retreat.
Reason
Compelling image of the glacier, with high EV in the article illustrating the overall retreat compared to a similar shot from 2001. The visitors of the national park visible in the image provide scale, while not distracting from the main subject.
