Original – The Franz Josef Glacier in the Southern Alps of New Zealand, is part of the Westland Tai Poutini National Park. The glacier exhibits a cyclic pattern of advance and retreat. By mid-2010 its latest cycle of advance had ended and is currently in a state of retreat.

Reason: Compelling image of the glacier, with high EV in the article illustrating the overall retreat compared to a similar shot from 2001. The visitors of the national park visible in the image provide scale, while not distracting from the main subject.

Comment Not sure which way to vote here. I believe that this derives most of its EV from its pairing with the 2001 picture, so I would prefer a set. However, the 2001 picture is nowhere near large enough for FP, so that would put me against it. As a stand alone picture, I'm not convinced of the EV beyond the images already in the article. Support. A sense of scale and angle is missing IMO. At first glance, I thought we were looking downwards into a valley but after looking closer, I can see it was taken from the valley floor.
